So here’s the thing. Society is very invested in policing and scrutinizing the sexualities and sex lives of oppressed groups.
People you meet also tend to care about the sex lives of aces and aros a biiit to much for comfort from my experience, though in personal encounters I had I did indeed chalk quite a bit of that up to misogyny, because well I’m a woman and usually it was guys who pulled the shit that made me feel the most uneasy (by which I mean the most threatened lol).
But watching the anti-ace/aro crowd on here really DOES make me see that shit in another light. Like. The sheer extent of it. Coming from supposedly progressive people. Who suddenly sound like your standard not so friendly neighborhood conservative or that creepy guy you hope just forgot the fact that someone once mentioned to him you are ace
“so what you mean is you don’t fuck”
“um why the hell would you discuss your sex life (aka the absence of one or even the concept of a lack of attraction) with ANYONE. Aside from a romantic partner because in that case you absolutely have to I guess or we’d accuse you of being manipulative”
“No one cares you don’t wanna fuck”
“wait other people know you’re ace?? So did you just walk up to them randomly on the street and start talking to them about sex? did you scream it from the rooftops? OBVIOUSLY you must have. gross. freak”
“well saying aces don’t fuck is accurate because if you did you would no longer be ace, because I know your sexuality better than you do and I REALLY want to keep talking about you not fucking”
“if you would have or ever had sex without sexual attraction being involved from your side, no matter what you say or what the reason, there is something wrong with you. at best you falsely believe you can exert sexual agency, at worst you’re manipulative+abusive”
“aces who date non-aces are harming them (because see above)”
“if you had more sex maybe you’d not be so dramatic”
“if you sleep with people or even are just sexually attracted to them without also being romantically attracted to them, you are using them and probably a misogynistic monster”
“asexuality is desexualizing which is a statement that makes sense if and only if you believe aces lack sexual agency”
“asexuality is inherently nsfw”
“so much as stating the fact that you are ace is tmi and equivalent to airing details of your sex life for all to hear (but also, at least if you’re aro just stating your romantic orientation is not enough because that’s just a modifier, so in that case we are entitled to what we deem information about your sex life)”
It’s. So much wild+blatantly horrifying stuff that in a ton of cases harms many marginalized groups aside from aces and aros, but suddenly becomes okay and important to them to spew, because they hate us so much and are that invested in policing our sexualities.
And this is leaving aside the constant pathologization, the tendency to spread harmful bullshit lies about us and our communities and never correct them, the outright threats of violence people have made and so much other horrible shit...
It’s all. Very telling?
And I knew this was going on and that there’s a lot of deliberate dehumanization involved but…
Damn why are we even debating this. You want to tell me society at large is kinder to aces and aros than “progressive” people who claim to care deeply about social justice?
Not buying it

It is with total sadness I hear the news that the founder of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, and ACT-UP, writer and playwright Larry Kramer has died at the age of 84, we are surely poorer without him. Every gay person in America owes him our very lives.

The cutest thing about being a science and math enthusiast who’s dating an artist is that they get impressed by the littlest things. I’ll solve the simplest calculus problem and to my gf it’s like I invented math. I’ll explain the most basic concepts of quantum mechanics and my gf will look at me like I’m Erwin Schrödinger himself. It’s so cute how my gf will look at me like I’m some sort of God who is bringing enlightenment to humankind.

Having literally looked at over a hundred fucking TERF blogs while blocking a shit-ton of them just now, here come some screenshots.
You wanna know why we think y'all “queer is a slur and should never be used by anyone ever” ppl sound like TERFs?
Tumblr media
Sw/edepea, a TERF.
Tumblr media
Funny story from someone who actually READ the diaries of Anne Lister: you know what word she used to refer to the genitals of her partners? What word she used to mean vulva and/or vagina?
Queer. As in “two fingers into her queer, first time.”
This scene is… uh… mildly inaccurate.
Anyway. That one just made me laugh.
Tumblr media
This one isn’t related to queer but to butch and femme, but I just had to screencap it because it’s so precious that this person thinks bisexual women and lesbians have no shared history.
Tumblr media
The notes on that one are extra precious. The objection to queer is very clearly that it doesn’t allow lesbians to know who the “lesser” wlw (bisexuals) are, or - in the same breath - that it allows those lesser beings to try to sneak into the Pure Lesbian company.
Tumblr media
In this post we have people objecting to “queerphobic” being used to describe discrimination wrt a bisexual woman being sworn in, and TERFs saying that Pence must looooove trans people because ‘it gets rid of gays’
Uhhh
Tumblr media
🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Tumblr media
“Queer” means they can’t shut out the people who aren’t the “correct” cis gay and lesbian! And that’s a problem! Queer lets trans people in!
Tumblr media
“How dare a bisexual woman still call her themselves bisexual and her their relationship queer when she’s they’re married a man?”
O date biphobia
(Hint: bi people are never in straight relationships because we’re not straight.)
Tumblr media
This fucking trainwreck.
Tumblr media
And this one. “Not queer as in [bisexual stereotype]…” mmmhmmm

False memes
Okay, friends, I need some help.
A friend of mine saw a friend who does not speak Spanish circulating these two memes, trying to be helpful. Here’s the problem - the advice in Spanish DOES NOT MATCH the English AT ALL. In Spanish, the people are advised to invite ICE in, be honest and calm, and to instruct all family members to tell the truth. At the end, they are told their cooperation is appreciated. They are not advised of their rights, to request a warrant. The advice amounts to giving themselves up.
If you look closely at the bottom, you’ll see that the English version is from the ACLU. The Spanish version says “ALCU”.
Be aware of the information you share - it may not be helpful!
THAT SAID, the help I request is this:
I do not speak enough Spanish to translate the above into Spanish. I would like to give her the Spanish translation of this message to add to her post. (And this one.)
Help?

To All You Hipsters In the Gypsy Tag:
[TW: Talk of sexual assault, physical assault, violence and antiziganism.]
I’ve sat here, combating the ignorance individually. I’m done with that. I’m done trying to reach you on a one on one level. You continuously ignore anything from me, you ignore the people I talk to on here who are Roma. You say we’re “Being too sensitive,” that “Gypsy is just a word,” that it stands for “Being free spirited, moving from place to place,” and the best, “I’m APPRECIATING your culture.”
First, gypsy is a slur. No matter what you think, it has been a slur for centuries.  It’s where the term “gypped” comes from. It was believed that the Roma would rip gadje (non-Roma) off for money. Roma who escaped the fate of death at the hands of the SS and their dogs, the ones who weren’t killed right away, were branded with a “Z”, which stood for Zigeuner, the German word for “Gypsy”. They were shipped to death camps, where barely any suvived.
It is a slur still used today. Roma are called “Gyppos” while being beaten, forced out of their settlements, forced to move. They are called this when they are assaulted and even raped. They are victims of forced sterilization, forcible eviction of settlements, harassment by both law enforcement and citizens, fingerprinting simply because they are Roma, they are often ecxluded from schools.
I want you to look at this:
Tumblr media
This is from 2009. This is a Roma woman being assaulted WHILE CARRYING HER CHILD in Dublin! This is what the word “Gypsy” stands for.
This is Natalka Kudrikova. She is a little girl who was severely burned when antiziganists threw molotov cocktails into her family’s home:
Tumblr media
This is also what the word “Gypsy” stands for. This happened in 2010. Systemic violence against a culture, an ethnicity, that just wants to be treated equally, to not have their way of life treated horribly. You can be sure, as these acts were going on, the word “GYPSY!” was being screamed in a way meant to incite fear and terror in those hearing it.
You dress up in flowy clothing, half-naked or naked except for a shawl. Do you have any idea how insulting that is? It contributes to the fetishization and sexualization of the Roma. Women are assaulted physically and sexually, because of this type of thing. They are raped, simply because they are believed to be “Easy” because of these “Positive stereotypes” you’re so quick to buy into.
It’s damaging to the culture when you treat it as a costume. Do you know the meaning behind the long skirts, or the “head scarves” that you’re so fond of donning? Do you know why the Roma wear these? It’s not for fucking fashion.
When you wear these things without a a care, you take away the meaning of these items. You take away the deep cultural roots the have. The skirt is worn because the lower half of the body is traditionally seen as “unclean” due to marime, or the code that’s followed. That “scarf” is known as a diklo, worn by women when they are married.
When you dress like this, you are spitting in the face of that culture, these people that are treated like they’re less than garbage TODAY. Not centuries ago, this is STILL HAPPENING.
So, before you tag that picture as “Gypsy” or say you want to “Lead a gypsy lifestyle,” look back on this post. Think about what that word means, and what you’re saying. Think about how fucking disrespectful it is. Think about the racism involved with that word. And realize that you are contributing to the ignorance that allows violence like these 2 out of countless incidents that occur. You are turning the Roma into a trope. This positive stereotype allows people to ignore the violence and hatred that Roma are still facing, because everyone thinks that being a “gypsy” is all about freedom, when really, they face oppression daily!
You’re not cool when you do this, you’re contributing to racism and violence.

Lilo and Stitch presenting an accurate representation of Hawaiians perspective on luaus held by tourists.
#what’s sad about this is that this is actually what Hawaiians had to do when the western culture took over #a luau was a sacred practice #until the westerners took the concept and had the audacity to change it into a time to stuff your face with food and put on grass skirts and coconut bras and dance the hula #and when they had these events, they didn’t even let actual Hawaiian people in #so to make money to take care of themselves, the Hawaiians were hired to work in these disgraceful events to clean up after the tourists like slaves only to make less than a buck #so good job disney for doing your fucking research and educating these people #sadly, this still goes on even until today and it makes me sick

punk isn’t just skinny. punk isn’t just perfect mohawks or aesthetically pleasing jackets. punk isn’t only listening to dead kennedys or black flag. punk is being an individual, having no respect for our fascist authority, sticking up for the little guy even if you are the little guy. punk isn’t just a look or a music scene.

do you think it would have helped you as a kid, or, like, would help you now (if this is a thing you wanted to learn to do) if someone actually literally physically coached you on how to change your volume? so that even if you couldn't match people's volumes, per se, you would be able to change volumes when asked? I taught acting to kids, including autistic ones, and this is one of the skills we covered. it feels physically different to be loud or quiet if you know what to look for!
So, in my PERSONAL experience, no. I grew up in theatre. I was acting basically every week, and it didn’t help. I’m a singer too. I have a lot of voice and breath control. I know how to modify my volume.
When someone asked me to be quieter, I would be, but it would only last a minute or two before I raised the volume again without noticing. I understand the request to quiet down, and I can modify my volume, but it just climbs right back up, and I can’t tell. I hear this is an issue for ADHD people too.
For me, there is talking volume, yelling, and literally whispering. If I’m in a situation where I MUST be quiet, like in the green room, I’ll just whisper to be safe. I know how to make my voice quiet, but I can’t tell once it’s loud again. And it’s always loud again pretty quick!

“asexuality is just the lack of a sex drive, or a really low one” uuhhh no. really, no. that is incorrect, you have been lied to, i’m sorry.
asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction to anyone. sex drive is your horny meter. you can still be horny and not be sexually attracted to people! similarly you can be sexually attracted to people and not be horny!! amaze
