her young brother certainly needed someone who would not lose their temper nor their patience and with noah, the high lady was entirely convinced the man had the patience of a saint. would she ever reprimand him for complaining? certainly not, but there was always a profound respect she held for the guard for simply never doing so. it could definitely be chalked up to the fact that either he would never dare to the high lady or that he sincerely was not bothered by kris's antics and simply focused on keeping her brother safe. "that is a relief to hear, and my hope is that he is will be far too busy worrying of where we are to attempt such reckless behaviors." alina did not hold her breath that he would remain out of trouble, but she did continue to hope that the unknowns of their environment would at the very least keep him cautious and alert. at the news noah reveals of her brother and his involvement with a gaea fae, there is a small sigh that falls from the high lady. alina had always remained out of her siblings romantic affairs, they already did not look upon her fondly and interfering with such a personal aspect of their life would not serve her further. as a protective elder sibling, she did wish to know if she ever needed to intervene. "of course he picked a fae from the capital, it's so very like him. continue to fill me in if that takes a turn for the worst, or something i should be aware of. until then, just observe, and you don't need to stop him from doing so." a pause, as her gaze returns to noah, "what is the scholar like? a bad influence of sorts or a better one?"
kris was definitely the biggest handful of the dragomir siblings. between his actions of going against his siblngs and his loud voicing that he'd prefer to not have a guard with him was tough on the guard. however it was a challenge noah was more than up to take on. reasoning with the young lord of summer wasn't always the easiest but he did his best to keep kris out of trouble, more now than ever before. the dusk court holding so many unknowns it was hard to let the young lord out of his sight. so far he hadn't had to report anything to big for trouble from the second youngest. "he has not done anything too bad yet." nothing as of yet, though noah was smart enough to not trust kris to get into some sort of trouble at some point. "the only thing that i have to report so far is that of what appears to be a relationship between him and the scholar from the capital." noah was still unsure of whether the relationship was of anything to be concerned over, but it was still something that the high lady should know about..

wendi's missing presence was certainly felt in the palace for aurora. after all, how did one become accustomed to not having their oldest friend around? since joining the inner circle of her high lord, she had found enough to occupy her time with but it did not make up for not having her friend around as the two women, together, could cause quite the mischief when left unsupervised particularly when they had been young girls. wendi then, had no choice but to follow where her parents went, a decision that aurora was quite baffled by. immense joy now sang through through the emissary at the sight of her friend returning. this time, for good. "at the risk of sounding rather crass, all i am concerned with is that you are here. i cannot claim to be fond of them for keeping us apart for this long." her radiant smile remains, her words, however, do remain true. the question spills anyway, not missing a chance to tease her friend with the lord that wendi fancied . "ah, so i am placed aside for the lord. i understand his standing and all, but here i thought i was your first." aurora utters rather dramatically, a playful pout curving her lips but her lilac hues glint.
the move away from the capital had come at the worst time for the young lady. feelings for the young lord of the dusk high family surfacing as she left him behind in the capital had been hard. aurora had been the one person that wendi had confided in regarding her developing feelings. over the years that she had been away from the capital those feelings had only grown. it wasn't surprising that the emissary knew why she truly had come back to the capital. though she would never say that she had only come back for muyang. aurora had been very much so a big part of her wanting to return to the capital on top of yang. "they still have business to attend to at home, i'm sure they'll come for a visit eventually though." wendi should have expected the next question, but she can't help the sheepish smile that creeps onto her face. "yang was the first person i went to find upon my arrival."

it was moments as such that the high lady had not gathered memories of. memories not made in their summer court, wherein she was never found to be doing some thing as simple as having tea with her siblings. certainly not lacking in the thoughts nor the wants of passing quiet afternoons with tea and the faces of her siblings around her. alina had not quite paved that way for any of them, though not due to a lack of desire for such quaint moments that were certainly unheard of for the dragomir siblings. as their time from the capital now shifted to the dusk court, the second eldest dragomir finds herself leaning to her siblings, well, towards the ones who seemed not to object her presence. in the seas of unknown and shadows, they were her guiding light. it was possible mor had claim this time for themself, a thought that briefly crossed her mind before she made her presence known to her sibling. the curiosity ( and overprotectiveness ) of an elder sister had won after the sights she'd witnessed of mor with the dusk court emissary. "so you do." her pleasure made heard in the manner she uttered those words.
when alina was not working with her inner circle and doing her own bit of spying of the court, she found herself checking upon her siblings through the day. it was rare when a day ended before the high lady at least caught glimpses of their features. it was more so for herself, that while no threat hovered over them at this moment, it was an innate need to see for herself they were as she had last seen them. mor had certainly been inclined to share her thoughts to their eldest sister, that it was not unheard of for alina to pique their mind on their surroundings. her brassy hues follow mor's, the other seeming as they are searching for something, or someone. the hesitation from the other, while brief, the elder sister narrows in on it. the younger liege's dark gaze finds alina's, and she held it, almost searching. "perhaps far greater than you might believe. as for our missing magic, it is becoming quite maddening." it was so strange for the high lady to not have her beast spirit, silence echoed now. the look that passes her sister's features certainly confirms that like alina, they too would attempt each day as if it would appear somehow. "it does feel as such, but we will be here permanently. i can be inclined to believe these faes of this court will assist in discovering a way out. while they have been hosting us well, i don't expect them to wish to continue this for a prolong period of time." a pause as she looks over to where morgana had been previously searching before returning her gaze to them. "i suspect you do not mind being here a bit longer than when we've first arrived."
being rendered unable to move throughout realms as promised, and grounded, as though their liege had been removed and them, reduced to petulant child, a small happiness emerged when asked for tea. a simple happiness. those afternoons where something was interrupted, table overturned, the plates to scatter, the heat gathering in the air, summer - storm approaching — those, dismissed for the sake of an ordering that went through, and a seating at the table which morgana did not have interrupted. with a question of what are you doing here? none of that came. softness bloomed within morgana's throat. they, for all intents and purposes, couldn't mutter their mood was pitched low. though, scanning alina's features and the darkness surrounding, their suspicions rose. briefly. flickering. two ravens, in hue and hair, which gathered here. “i'm always in the mood for tea.”
morgana wouldn't protest. tenderness, which reared itself something ugly most days, baring teeth as any rabid animal might do, still remained prominent. they settled there, at the gazebo bench, and gaze thus wandered. acknowledgement through statement, but not through glance. morgana's wandering through an illustrious curtain of purple - hued flowers. ( lavender? fashioned in something hallowed. halo about the hair, golden and purple. morgana never liked that colour combination. but now. ) “… here? oh.” there a heartbeat shared. then, when silhouette did not appear through the dusk - wisteria, morgana's own light gaze wandered and locked with sister's. “well, i've acclimated as much as i'm capable of doing. still i shiver in horror at how i awaken feeling hollow.” referring to reaching for magic, which mother, no matter of ilk, had removed; this much, morgana was certain now. snap of passion still prominent, despite wandering mind. “i've more of resigned myself, really. to the fact that we're here permanently.”

as days turned into a week, alistair had gradually become used to their surroundings, and the intense skies. sleep returned to him with far more ease, and while the commander of the day court was not a man who held most in suspicion nor was he prone to expecting danger, he did question those moments he allowed his guard down. it was a reluctant conclusion he had come to that maybe, there was no danger lurking for them here. he was also forced to admit, the dusk court did not feel as suffocating as they had all felt in the capital. they were certainly trapped here, but since arriving, it was after weeks they had received some for peace, despite the many unknowns around them. the familiar blonde that he had seen prior around the library appeared as he idly strolled about the gardens, "lady lyria is it?" he offers in a friendly greeting, paired with a polite smile. alistair was not normally seen in the libraries of any court, but he had far too much spare time on his hand, even as he continued to do his duties as commander. "i suppose it has, i would not say i'm accustomed to it, but i am willing to concede it's as unpleasant as i thought it would be." his gaze briefly moved to the books in her hands, "would you like assistance carrying those?" he was a gentlemen after all, thanks to the efforts of his mother's upbringing. "it also helps you all have been rather generous in your hospitality."
+++ open starter featuring vesparia as lyria, the dusk court librarian (@ofcourtfablesarchive)
the spy stood at the edge of the garden, fingers grazing the spines of the books she carried. the soft wind catching in her moon-silver hair as she spotted the figure across the way. their last meeting had been brief but memorable enough for her to pick up the thread of conversation as though no time had passed at all. "so," lyria began, slipping into the familiar cadence of her alias. a slight tilt to her lips as she took a step closer—almost as though their meeting had been a game she'd been playing all along, "has your view of the dusk court changed at all?" surely her home was more hospitable than it looked. her tone carried a warmth that was hard to place. she didn’t press, but there was a subtle pull to her words, an invitation to continue down whatever path their conversation had opened before. her gaze was steady, eager, yet patient as she waited for them to speak, to see if they remembered where they had left off.

the edge in her twin's smile appeared once more, one aurora was all too familiar with. the sisters wore their masks well before others, she often suspected her sister hid a bit more form her twin. there was a deeper hunger within vesparia, that surpassed that of the emissary. perhaps one she should be concerned of, they might be same in age, but aurora had always felt a bit more of the protective sister to the other. two sides of the same coin, but if it was at all possible, ves held a notch more determination than that of her twin. determination had driven the emissary to her role, at first it had been a drive instilled by their parents but solely it had fused itself into hers. a taste of what she had since she began working with their high lord, only made her wish to continue. "we are several steps closer, ves, it's well within out reach. as for our dark mother, she did have some sort of a hand in leading these courts here. perhaps it was not her intentions but she did pave the way - we must ensure it does not close on us." her gaze trails upwards to the skies above, but once more they are all only met silence. "she may be watching, but her silence says much. as for our guests, they can try as they wish, they will only find a gracious high lord, an inner circle going above and beyond to welcome them."
it was hard to imagine a world where her twin was not by her side, that even when the rest of the world would be open for them, two would never be found far apart from one another. it was a first to find two twins so strikingly different from one another, and yet their desire to see the other prosper rivaling with one another. in every sense of the word, her twin was her other half, she made up all the parts of aurora that were lacking. as the emissary sweet talked her way through the high faes and rulers of their courts, her twin lurked in the shadows aiding her sister where she could. gently picking apart every secret their guests might held both of which could be useful and those that they need to be wary of.
"that will happen in due time, i do not find waiting an appealing chore but once i have our high lord forming an ally and a friend or two, we will be that much closer." she had already gotten a head start, charming her way through the high rulers, and a few certainly responded to her gracious words and smiles. lilac hues gleaming in delight but soft all the same as they regard her twin, stepping closer to her sister before reaching a hand out to grasp hers. "it is more than a start, gratitude sister, for every bit you uncover for me aids me more than you realize. I only wish to pick out the best courts for our high lord and our court." she paused, meeting her sister's striking viridian gaze, "yes, the day court. i have managed to have their high lord and ours speak, and i've been in communication with their emissary. of all the high rulers, he's the most reasonable one. the rest of the solars, perhaps even a season one as well if you could." the temptation to ask her sister for summer was once she suppressed. her personal interest in the liege morgana aside, one court at a time. "in between your lurking, have you met a few that strike your fancy? any success in befriending a few of our guests?"
vesparia’s smile mirrored aurora’s, but there was something sharper in it, a glint of purpose mixed with a familiar yearning. "because it's waiting for us out there—," she said, her voice steady and laced with a steely determination. they had dreamed of freedom, of stepping out from the confines of their court, since they were young. now, it seemed more possible than ever, but also more dangerous. "—everything we’ve ever been denied. perhaps we’ll get there,” ves mused, her voice dropping, thoughtful. “but you know as well as i do—getting past the dark mother’s eyes won’t be easy. everyone has their gaze on us now, watching for any misstep.”
her verdant eyes slid over to the lavender orbs of her sister's. twins, they were. born on the same day just minutes apart and yet...the differences were stark. despite everything that sets them apart, vesparia knows in her heart of hearts that there was nothing in this world that could rip her from aurora. her soul was tethered to the capricious fae just as strongly as it was to sylphira. she paused, letting the tension build between them before she continued. vesparia hadn't found anything truly groundbreaking—no forgotten relics or hidden powers, just a collection of whispers and murmurings that confirmed what she already suspected: which high fae held the most sway in the courts beyond their own. nothing more than a few pieces on the ever-shifting board, but useful all the same for future movements.
she tilted her head slightly, a wry smile tugging at her lips as she replied, "nothing that will get us out of here just yet, sister. only names and faces—those with influence in the courts. some pawns, a few rulers." her eyes glinted with mischief, though the weight of the isolation they endured remained heavy in her voice. "still, it’s a start." ves leaned in slightly, her gaze holding aurora’s. "is there a particular court you’d like me to penetrate?" her tone was casual, but there was an unmistakable hunger for more—more knowledge, more freedom, more answers hidden in the lands beyond.

being so far from home for so long had certainly filled the spymaster with longing to see her court once more. to take in the sights of the snow-capped mountains, to feel the crisp air of their home, to feel the snow beneath her hands and feet. perhaps she would have appreciated another court, one as such that held so many wonders, had lailah not been so entirely homesick. she had tracked down her inner circle members one by one in this labyrinth, and the general was the last to appear. though knowing him, she was certain he was far too busy inspecting every inch of his surroundings, assessing every possible danger while the spymaster moved about attempting to uncover all the secrets they held.
"i would not expect anything less from our general." when the other admits to indeed missing lifting his sword, it was one she could understand. not a need for violence but merely a desire to wield it once more, a need that had not made itself known for some time until now. a need she also hoped that did not come to pass here in this unknown court. "let us hope we do not need to here at all, general." lailah had picked upon on much, slipping in and out of the shadows but she doubted pivotal information they needed would appear so readily. she did concede danger was not the an imminent concern, though that could change at any moment. "about the same it has for all of us. i must admit it's not as terrible as i thought it would be here. it's strange, but it feels somehow...freeing than the capital." her gaze rested on the general, "and for you?"
the dusk court had not proven to be a place that soobin wanted to be. being brought back together with his past was not something that the general had been fond of at all. coming face to face with his older brother that he had ran from was not favourable. distracted from discovering more of the place while he was fighting with the older male. meaning to meet up with that of his fellow inner circle members earlier. the winter court had been his saving grace after he'd left the night court. giving him the life he would have wanted after his upbringing.
"you have not lost all of your comrades, just been busy in the dusk court." the general replied to the other. "truthfully, yes i am." he admitted to the other. though he wouldn't be surprised if he ended up going up against his brother in the dusk court. "how has the dusk court been for you?"

alina, in turn, watched him, studying the critical eye in which he studied his younger sister in a similar manner. perhaps shouldn't be surprised he would accuse of her such a thing, he never held such a high opinion of her to begin with so truly this accusation was not much of a departure from the norm. while it stung like no other, she very well could not compel him to trust her. alina kept secrets from her siblings, they were of no consequence to him or their siblings. a high ruler had their fair share of secrets, but none of which were burdens for her siblings to bear. when his anger appeared, she should not be surprised of it, he'd shown her the last they spoke sunan had plenty of it. still her eyes narrowed, flashing, "you are my elder brother, for that i've always allowed you to speak freely, but that does not give you the right to throw insults nor baseless accusations towards me. i am many things, but a coward, i am not. i am your sister, have a care." after all her efforts of trying to aid his mother, he would believe she'd keep a secret of this magnitude from him? alina was as curious to know what had gone in his mother's mind to do this; how had amporn been able to keep this secret from all of them for decades? sarai's words circled her mind, that he no longer thought of as a sister. truly what else could she do or say that will change his mind? he questioned her every action towards him.
"i said plenty to you the last time, and you didn't like any of it. will you raise your voice each time i utter words you don't like?" alina didn't remove her gaze from, but kept her voice steady. she didn't take kindly to be spoken to this way, but she overlooked it because he was her brother. "why don't you ask her? she's the only who can answers your question." alina took a step forward towards the eldest dragomir, "since you've had ample time to think, have you reconsidered my offer? i don't understand why you won't take this chance to make a difference in your court. you wish for my my honesty - do not make a grave mistake by turning away this opportunity. it's not a pity offer, just because you believe so, doesn't make it true. you're so certain you know me so well, then you would know i do not hand out pity offers - to anyone."
sunan kept a watchful and critical eye on his baby sister, looking for any shadow that might be out of place, anything within her body language that might suggest her guilt in all of this. if she had known about this, he would never, ever forgive her. and sadly sunan was petty enough to stay to that promise. "are you sure?" he asked in a bitter tone, his face once more distorting into disapproval for her. "because you cannot say anything to my face, alina. you would rather stay silent, like a fucking coward." he was angry again, how long would it be this easy to anger the eldest dragomir sibling? most likely for a few months if not years to come. he doubted it, he truly did. she cared more about her position than being a sibling. he had to look away from her, unable to keep himself under control and to have a civil conversation in this moment with his eyes on her. "because i've had a lot of time to think," he responded, his eyes fixed on the wall. "and its the only thing my mind keeps going to."

while the spymaster certainly exercised caution, she did have parts of her rather impulsive side that emboldened her to approached this purple-scared creature. the shade had certainly left lailah staring in awe, up close, this one was even more beautiful. she had been watching this for some time, and when it did not move away from her, it fueled her confidence to attempt to touch it. certainly not so wise, but thus far, this dragon did not indicate it did not like this femme near it. they simply continued to watch the winter fae, perhaps gauging to see what she'd do. her companions words have lailah peer over her shoulder at the artist, her own dark hues glinting in amusement, "that depends, do you intend to reveal my secret?" a brow arching, the words somewhat of a jest, "or do you intend to cease my efforts?" her lips curved into a smile, "guilty, i have but not carelessly. this one has yet to show it's aversion. even if i do hover near it's space, they do not move farther or make a move to harm me." it would not meet lailah halfway, but that was a different matter. a chuckle fell now as the night fae continued her warnings, "not overlooking per se, just testing their boundaries." a puff of warm breath is felt by both figures, and when this dragon turns their gaze to imalda, lailah watches in curiosity. "come closer, i don't think this will hurt us unless we try something." her dark hues return to the reptile, and it most certainly felt as if it were peering into their souls. "it is, but it's incredible to know they can understand us to some level. perhaps they understand we are on edge on unknown lands, or what their creator has been doing all this time. perhaps they might even be willing to aid us, in due time." the beast moves once more, shifting it's head ever so slightly, closer this time to lailah, and the spymaster remains still as she responds to the other femme. "i was astonished as well, but rest assured it is friendly, they were not attempting to harm one another. perhaps it is how they pass time? idle mischief?"
preventing swallow from being too harsh against their throat, imalda allowed other to be the one to explore the dragon's reactions. if she ended up becoming rider, then thus imalda might paint themself impressed, albeit never speaking it aloud. glance between both visages, both resolute, and truth be told, they could see the resemblance, and committed it to their memories to place upon canvas much later. ( would it be information? mere scene? a snapshot? time would tell. ) “so this isn't the first time in the dusk court's keeping us here that you've dared this. only the first time i've seen you.” bemused tone burst through pale lips, drawn further to pallor due to the deep chocolate of their hair, tucked against the nape of their neck in a loose - tie. they themself did not realise their body could remain this still, and in reverence. easier smile, but imalda did not return it, thankful that it was not aimed at them, but towards the creature. “mm. and the teeth. we're overlooking the teeth on purpose?” even up in the skies such ivory incisors could be glimpsed when beasts opened their mouths to breathe flame or ash. gaze now turned towards night fae, and night responded, glance towards violet - scales, then stepping forth. a boldness in their stride that further boosted them with confidence, able to square shoulders. “interesting. this means their intellect is far beyond our own, if they can read us so easily. and that frightens me.” though, remarked in slight droll, one might disbelieve they were frightened. “sparring?” sharpened and leaving droll behind in the next instant. “mother's grief. surely not. is this where we're going to bear witness to the bloodshed? or is it friendly?” imalda, not against believing dusk court was thus capable of friendliness, but wariness consumed. and, ironic enough, amethyst earrings dangled from lobes.

"far long for some than others, though i am pleased to know you do share that feeling with me." offering the youngest of the draven a warm smile, "the show of another court will wane in time, i am certain, but i do believe my mind will not fully wrap around the knowledge that there dragons. even if i was aware that our lands have so much mystery it would not be unheard to find creatures we do not know exist anywhere on prythian." sitara would welcome another court joining their continent, but given their isolation, she feared what it meant for all of prythian. she feared the peace they had all obtained will be comprised. she did have faith the seven high rulers, along with kabir, would not allow that to happen. in order to maintain it, they would have to agree to unite as the other courts have under their king. an ideal thought but not one that would be easy. "certainly, they have been quite generous and hospitable, that is a good sign he's wiling to know us instead of treating us as enemies. i have not heard anything ill of him thus far, and those who have spoken of him insist he's a reasonable ruler and man. when he's made his rounds with the king and our high rulers, i will introduce myself as well to him." it was a relief to know, nothing unfavorable was uttered of the high lord of dusk. his people seemed to respect him greatly. "i have utter faith in all of you, you will yield positive results in due time."
there was a hope that taylan's eldest brother would be willing to work with the high lord of the dusk court, or at least remain in an amicable relation with the court. the dusk court had already been accommodating in putting up each of the courts in an area of the castle despite none of them being invited to the court. taylan was going to need to start working on building relationships with the court to further help her high lord and lady. "i do not judge you for that. i think that a lot of us will still have a sort of shock to this for a while." the emissary replied. taylan was also still shocked by it all, but there was an awe that went with it. "i have not witnessed anything that would make me believe that they wish to harm any of us. the high lord and his emissary working to give us each a space to use while we are here does not indicate ill will intentions." taylan would work harder to connect with the fae of the dusk court. "i will do my best to allow for stronger communication between the dusk and the rest of us."

it was certainly making the commander of the night court curious as to what they had heard of each court. his primary worry, did they know of their scared and safeguarded city of velaris? if they did, would the other courts as well? it was a thought kalore tried not to linger on for too long, not when had far more pressing things to worry for. for instance, how to get their magic back, his daemati gifts back, and how to get out of here and how to do so without the fear that this court would find a way to their respective courts. until they knew more of these faes, he did not want them anywhere near his night court. if it mean they all had to be here longer, then so be it. "the very least they don't appear to be unruly or wild, seems they will only attack if provoked." his spies were already doing what they did best, but kalore did not intend to sit idle, be it working with the seasonal courts. "he would not be able to, even if he tried. i do believe he's careful - planning how to speak to the high rulers, gaging them individually. he would be wise to. i am inclined to believe he would to find some form of amiability among them. he might have the advantage at this moment, but it is far better to not make an enemy of the other high rulers." kalore was curious enough to meet this elusive high lord, but for now the high rulers would have to make the effort, "we can begin by speaking to the inner circle members, they will not be forthcoming either, but pleasantries are a necessary chore."
the dusk court was at a bit of an advantage when it came to them being in their court. they had known about the other courts, or at least known some things about them. while the rest of prythian was completely unaware of their court. joesfina didn't truly know what the dusk court knew of prythian and the other courts which was something that she wanted to find out as well. "that is a amongst the questions i have about them as well." of course the commander wished to know just how powerful the dragons and the dusk fae were. understanding more about the partnership between the fae and the dragon was something that would definitely be beneficial to know. "i do not imagine that he would be willing to pass out information on his court, but i also believe him to not be stupid enough to dismiss the other high rulers completely." while she herself had not had the chance to speak with the dusk high lord she held the ideal that he was at least willing to have some relations with the other courts. "i would imagine so, this is what they are trained to do."

the sight of her commander continuing her training, never missing a beat nor a day was not surprising. her diligence and determination were one of the many things she admired of the commander of gaea. moreover, that nyx, along with the rest were not used to sitting idle in these situations but as the rest of the inner circle, they were all a bit lost on how to proceed. danger might not be present yet, but they could not allow their guard down, because at any moment that could change. nyx, along with taria, did not wish to be unprepared. "one of these days, commander." she remarks with a chuckle, "that is certainly true, i do not think it's possible for you to look anything less than lovely no matter what your state. i do not mind, i assure you, but i wasn't certain if you wish to trail about in damp clothing." her hues alight in amusement, the words entirely true, nyx was always a striking sight, sweating or not. "if you are ready, why delay?" she offered her arm for the other to take, "i thought you might be missing your leathers. we can have some made to your liking, i take it you've been limited what's been offered in this palace." her gaze remained on the younger fae, "are you finding this place just a bit more to your liking?"
Nyx knew the lift of that darkness so familiar to her that seemed to linger over her on the daily had been obvious, specially in the midst of the chaos that were their lives in the present time. however she could not help but find peace in the companionship of kerim, it was like a piece of herself had falling and clicked into place, as if she had been missing it all along. "i am uncertain i could, no," she laughs however, she had been raised and trained to be disciplined, even in the formalities of life. "you do not wish to take me in this state? i've been told i am quite the sight after training," only by a six something feet tall bath boy that was, but those were little details she would leave out. "i would love to, i have not done much exploring outside the palace, it will be good, and i should acquire a few other sets of clothing as much as i love being the fighting leathers." she says swiping a towel over her neck.

if he could, the day lord would spend his every waking moment with her, allowing her smiles to distract him from that surrounded him. while dec wasn't suspicious by nature, nor was he prone to worry, some moments he forget they were in an unknown land, and other times he was reminded yet again. were they tolerate the unknown around them for the foreseeable future, he'd rather do so with cissa by his side. each morning he awoke, it was her he looked forward to seeing. there was a quickening of his heart when she uttered her eagerness to see him, one he shared as evidenced by the smile that grew at her words. "an acceptable response, so long as you keep your word of playing for me later." he teases, his voice a murmur as he peers into her startling blue hues, leaning into her hand that rest against his cheek. his own hand "you're too gracious." his dark hues softening, "not at all curious of my whereabouts are you? should i be offended?" dec couldn't help but tease, "i am yours for the rest of the day as well as the days to come. I shall not go this many days before we see one another. " meaning he'd find almost every hour of the day to slip away and find her. he has thought about going to her in the evenings when everyone retired, but decided against it should he disrupt her slumber. he allows her to lead him the window sill, sitting across from her, but keeping her hands in his. "it's a lot to get used to, different but i do believe we might have some peace here than we did in the capital. i am glad to hear you have managed to keep yourself occupied and our hosts have been kind in their hospitality and allowed you to explore their music. how different is it from what we know?"
While she would love nothing more than to spend every moment next to him, to see him every day if only once at the very least, narcissa knew that while she had no real responsibilities nor abilities to help their cause, it was not the same for others, nor for declan. she knew he stayed away for duty and responsibility, it had been why she had not called on him, rather waiting for him to have the time. "because i was exited to see you, i can play for you latter, you have my word." she had missed him, his face and that suttle shadow of hair that often decorated his face, those honest brown eyes of him, but most of all that comforting presence of his. her hand extends to cup his face, long gentle fingers brushing lovingly. "i know my dear, you do not have to explain it to me." and she was a patient person, after all she had waited always in the sidelines, life was no different in dusk. "as best as i can," her hand lowers to grab his, guiding them to the seat by the window, it had become her favorite place to seat, the golden sun played over her skin with warmness. "i have, they have been kind to me, i was able to find this music room and they have allowed me to study their music, is exhilarating to finally have something new to learn. "

"perhaps some form of a telepathic link? some of these dragons act as companions to faes, for the high family and their inner circle." she had been idly seeing which reptile belonged to who, and in a few days she had matched a pair and the white one being the most obvious to the high lord of the dusk court. "my concern is, do they somehow offer additional power to the faes?" it was an imperative topic to look into, one she'd slip to her scholar and her spymaster, already asking them to work with ced's inner circle while they were here. alina didn't have a vested interest in their pet creatures, only that what they intended for the other courts. perhaps she had been jumping to the worst conclusions, that they might attempt to assert their dominance upon the rest. she was also certain that cedrian would be able to get through the high lord, as much as alina wished to lean to her stronger instincts, utilize methods that had worked for her thus far, she could not be reckless to anger the ruler of this court. "it would track with how their creator views us." at his words, her gaze falls to him once more, "yes, i would never accuse you of such a thing." a slight gleam in her gaze, though she had remained unconcern of the opinions of other courts, it had been far too pleasing to know cedrian did not hold that view of her court. it was a bit odd to even think that for once, a solar and season were aligned. "that is quite the delusion they hold if they believe so. especially considering they relied on us all this time while we're in the capital. the late king might have looked down upon us, but he knew very well he needed us, and so does his son." there's a slight shake of her head, "it will be so easy to have enter into the agreement we've had. they've been independent, they won't relinquish that freedom so easily. i am inclined to aid the king to make that effort, if you would be, too? not ideal, but if the boy king can bring them under, that might be one less thing to worry about. it cannot hurt to try? he won't be able to do so on his own, we might have to...apply some form of pressure as well." an idle hand traces along his arm, "the capital is relying on us, the king has not even attempted to pass on instructions to us, so until he says so, we continue our efforts. while yes, the other courts are a gamble, i don't think they'd be inclined to combine efforts, but we only need to create an impression of such. meanwhile, i would prefer you make an impression on the high lord." she murmurs in return, "let me know how both of your efforts go, and I shall make mine afterwards."
cedrian shrugs lightly, “ i wonder how they communicate. ” was it weird to share your mind with a beast ? he couldn’t help but wonder how it all worked. he supposed it could be similar to the beast form, but that was not quite a separate entity from him. perhaps it was not quite something he was supposed to understand, or wanted to. ced felt the bond was abnormal, and he distrusted the giant lizards. cedrian tried to also put himself into the mind of the dusk high ruler, apprehensive to the entire situation they found themselves in. it was difficult, he’d not know what to do should the roles have been reversed. for now, the high lord of day chose to wait, to watch what happened, and to rely on his people to do their jobs. “ i think that they’ve been taught as much. ” he says, cutting a glance at the words next muttered. “ you must mean the capital. ” counters he, having long decided he was not his father. cedrian didn’t see the need to jump for alliances with seasonal courts, but the similarities between day and summer were too strong for him to even act as if his own court was superior. “ it depends on what the new king plans to do, or if this new court wishes to be ruled. ” mother knew they all hated it, but chose to play the game simply due to the fact that they knew war would be the only other reality they faced. peace under tyranny was easier than deaths at war. “ we are still in their home, and powerless for the most part. it is not as if we could even all band together against our hosts. we can hardly work together with the capital on our necks. ” he says, voice a murmur. “ i will reach out soon, i have percival speaking to their own emissary. ”

her eye roll does not go amiss at his teasing moments prior. however, commander knew siara would not make that attempt here, not with the lizards in the sky and though she did say so in words, he was also aware she missed doing what came so naturally to her. in truth, he would not persuade her to do such a thing, and while they had not done anything violent yet, that could change in a moment's notice. he was not certain how long those creatures behave should they try anything or attempt to ease into the spaces they had claimed. "i don't think these beasts will be welcoming to another in the skies." she was not alone in her frustration, this strange hollowness that settled with them, her lack of her shadows, and kalore his daemati abilities that he needed now at this more than ever to uncover the secrets of this court. relying on another keep themselves and each other sane. while kalore did not rely on his abilities solely, this was also not a position he was used to all, and it was a becoming a larger task to uncover what he wished with his threats alone. he was careful, the last thing he needed was word getting back to the high ruler of dusk that the night commander was threatening their faes. kalore was many thinks, but foolish he was not on uncharted territories. "it is akin to speaking to a wall with them, and although they are of little consequence, our high lord will not be pleased if i allow them to ruck amok and attracting all sorts of troubles. as if a commander does not have more pressing matters to attend to than to babysit the hoard of adult fae." irritation seeps through his tone. it was perhaps the youngest draven, kalore did not need to worry so much of, lady taylan was the well-behaved of the bunch and the only draven not irritating him at every turn. "it is not the worst way to begin, but he cannot remain hidden for long. perhaps he is overwhelmed facing all seven at once? he's had no prior experience speaking to any ruler." it would be definitely a sight kal would enjoy. "as of late our high lord has not been inclined to listen to me, i'm not certain where his mind seems to be these days." it's a blessing if he chooses to stay on the sideline and allowed kalore to do what was best. "i can handle all matters, but he must be the one to who speaks to the high ruler here."
being a sappy romantic was far from siara’s behavior. violence might even ensue should anyone attempt to accuse her of it. but the nightly walks with kalore were pleasant, and a far more productive way to spend their time rather than remaining locked in her chambers as she wished. eyes roll at the teasing, the desire to glare growing but she keeps it at bay. siara didn’t want to give the commander what he wished to get out of her. “ i haven’t tried to fly at all. i refuse. ” she did not admit that her wings ached for it, nor that they felt weakened due to her lack of use. siara was still growing used to sharing her weaknesses with the commander, but they were also out in the open. her shadows weren’t strong enough to give a sound barrier yet. shadows she was craving now more than ever. each step of this walk was something she only did for the man her arm was looped around, siara hating the eyes upon them, both from the sky and the ground. she knew well that this was the best way to keep her wits about her, to be a spymaster without her shadows. that did not mean siara preferred it. a snort slips from the half fae at the comparison of wails. “ have you already given your lectures to deaf ears, then ? ” siara couldn’t imagine either sibling would listen. while the youngest seemed mostly harmless, she had quite mixed opinions of the two lords. troublemakers. a nod comes from the spymaster, “ all i’ve gathered is that the high lord here seems to be hesitant to make friends or enemies. ” people spoke highly of their high lord, which could be only a slight marker of a man. she didn’t have high expectations for much else. eyebrows raise, but she’s not surprised to hear their own high lord remains at the side of the expecting high lady. “ i hope he listens. lady seraphina would be fine watched by our general in the absence of our high lord. ” siara didn’t speak to the general much, if at all, but she assumed the illyrian had the position for a reason. “ we have numbers, they have dragons. ”

"it would be. however, i would be forgiving if you expressed you really wished to sleep. i would hardly come in between your slumber." the winter fae could not help but remark, even as she suspected he didn't object to spending time with her, be it sacrificing his sleep. truthfully, lailah had thought he would be awake, more often then not she had found him awake far later into the night in the capital. nonetheless it pleased her far too much that he obliged her tonight. it perhaps should be concerning that he was able to occupy so much of her time and her mind. even amidst of her own duties, he would appear in her thoughts at the oddest of moments. the other day lailah had curiously picked up a novel from the library, and she instantly thought of daxton. her smile widens at his flirty demeanor, dark hues glittering in amusement and interest she did not bother to hide as dax was well aware of it. it was simply that she was exercising far more patience than she would have under different circumstances. it was not an easy task to curb her desire to be closer to him, she is as surprised she managed it thus far. with her summer counterpart, she did not want to leap too far ahead without knowing where his thoughts lied. while the rumor mill of him continued, the winter spymaster suspected there was no truth to it as of late. the many instances she'd seen him huddled with his books, or too engrossed in his tasks, she drew conclusions that when he was not with her, he was entertaining another woman in this manner. "i assure you, there is not a shred of doubt that you will not deliver on your promises. i would not dare underestimate you." it as effortlessly and instantaneously he draws her attention from the weapons and onto him. "i only wished to see how fond you are of me. or rather, if you are, as i am of you." playing coy was not a habit for lailah, so she settled for the truth as she held his gaze. setting the weapon in her hand down on a table, she then stepped closer to him before pressing her lips to the corner of his mouth, before murmuring, lips brushing against his cheek whilst she spoke, "my sincere gratitude that you chose to indulge me tonight."
daxton had changed as of late. not entirely the man of reputation he allowed to exist, but certainly not fighting what the rumor mill thought of him either. the spymaster was simply more focused on his books and his job, the winter counterpart a distraction he’d not expected. he still kept his guard up, but speaking to her had become far more of an enjoyable way to pass the time than simply a means for information. he wondered how she felt in return. not pushing, daxton simply remained ever observant when in the presence of lailah. he assumed she did the same. never would he discount what the winter spymaster was capable of. “ it would be rude to pretend i did not hear you. ” he says with a shrug, not mentioning that he enjoyed seeing her. his eyes roll, “ i suppose not. ” and so here they stood, in a room they may not be allowed in but had taken anyway. dax watched as lialah strolled the weapons, eying them with too much interest for his own tastes. he was probably rusty, and felt this would be far too quickly finished. he was not admitting that to her, though. his brows raise, and the cocky and flirty demeanor settles like a well worn glove. “ i think you ought to give me more credit, my lady. my offer comes with plenty of promises attached. ”

it was not as if cedrian forbade his best friend from spending time with anyone on a personal level, and he was also certain he couldn't object to alistair's interest in herina. granted, that was not what he'd intended, to taking such a deeper liking to her this way, he wished to be friends with her, due to the alliance between their courts but even the commander hadn't expected this attraction that took him by surprise. he'd still intended to learn all he could of this family and this court, purely out of knowing who they were becoming involved with, but all that he'd seen and observed led him to believe maybe it was not such a terrible idea. nerina and her siblings were good fae, they did not strike him as ambitious, duplicitous, or even cruel, but that would still remain to be seen. all of which he couldn't associate particularly with this lady, devious certainly, but not cruel. "that aligns with what i've known of you thus far, competitive, seeking a thrill from danger, though i'm curious to know are you this cutthroat out in the seas?" a brow rising as he takes a step closer towards her. her pretty face might fool others, but alistair had known not to mistake it for an unassuming one. it had certainly left him intrigued. "so then, have you devised a plan on how to get closer to the reptiles without their protests?" a hearty laugh falls from the commander, "i'm insulted you would believe i would hinder you in anyway. there's something you don't know of me, my lady, i'm exactly the sort of thrill seeker you'd want by your side." it had felt too long since he'd been able to lean onto that side of himself that had vanished in the chaos. "i'll aid you in your rather ambitious goal." he nods, "if you say so, but i have a feeling you don't intend to let them get a whiff of your stunts." the grin still lingering as he watched her, dark hues glinting in delight as she expressed her disappointment. "i would not advise that, i can assure you, i can be trusted, i don't think i can vouch for another in that regard. if you don't wish for a gentlemen, nerina, i can certainly be the entire opposite." holding her gaze with a promise, had he not been holding back all this time simply for the sake of propriety and of who she was.
the uncertainty that nerina had for the day commander waned by the day. she knew he likely only began to speak to her because his own high lord seemed keen on her sister, but his remaining and lingering interest felt personal. nerina didn’t often think too highly of herself, not poorly but simply not highly. she didn’t think people would seek her company alone without reason, but perhaps that was not as true anymore. nerina was interested enough to continue on and see what happened. a laugh twinkles from her lungs, “ my cousin and i are very competitive. danger is only more appealing. ” she shares. he hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting her counterpart in crime or bad decisions, but assumes it’ll happen in due time. “ you wish to meet a dragon as well ? only if you promise not to slow me down. i won’t lose to her. ” nerina took bets with her cousin very seriously, and she was also quite the sore loser. the latter part she was not sharing with the day fae. nerina’s mind was still too preoccupied on the idea of dragons being real, distracted by the stories of old coming to life in front of her eyes. she knew alina worried, but there was no chance she would pass up a moment to meet such magnificent creatures. a snort slips from the younger fae, “ my siblings won’t stop me. ” they couldn’t. she wasn’t an obedient one, and most were in no place to make such demands of her either. laughter bubbles from her once more, and nerina rolls her eyes. “ only to sleep ? how incredibly boring. i think i’ll take up an offer to share a bed that comes with more enticing activities than sleep. ”

"odd, that is the first i've been called as such." humor glittering in his gaze, "others tend to use terms such as strikingly handsome, broody in a charming sort of manner. " vanity was certainly was a sin of the commander of the night court, never quite passing up a chance to remind those around of him as to how blessed he'd been with his particular features. "although, brooding might apply to you more so than i." the daemati couldn't help but toss. kerim had seen all of his moods, and the worst of his foul moods, but as of late they had been far rarer. now they had mellowed to irritations and impatience. the war lord was a lot like the commander, there was a reason the two had gotten along. initially quite stand-offish with one another, not impressed but kalore who always had a more affinity to illyrians as a whole, eventually did come to concede the war lord was a man to respect. the daemati never took anyone so easily, and kerim had certainly become an unexpected part of his existence. "it's precisely that, i doubt charming smiles do much for her than scowls from a pretty commander." really was kal any different? a rare chuckle befalls from the elder male at the other's expression. "do not roll your eyes the commander of the night court. despite your insolence right now, i'll invite you to have dinner with us tomorrow." he had wished to do so in the capital, before things become entirely chaotic, and neither of them anticipated being tossed into a hidden court. "why am i not surprised she had to be the one to so first?"
kerim’s brow cocks at his friend, as if the other was not vocal enough around him as is. “ you are capable of being more whiny ? ” asks the war lord, only cracking his act to let mischief shine in his eyes after a moment. in truth, they bonded over their foul moods, both able to understand the other and not be put off by such behaviors. it was a wonder either had found such a deep friend, prickly to their cores and difficult to be around, and yet here they stood. their friendship had come quite a ways in the years they’d known one another, both men valuing the bond and making an effort not to lose it. that was rare for kerim, most didn’t wish his company or only sought it when they were in need of something. “ are you sure ? i would not be surprised if that is what drew her to you. it is your permanent expression. ” he says with a shrug, words plain even if they were in jest. kerim’s dry humor came out the most with the other. eyes roll, and he offers his friend a very unamused expression. well aware of what the other is doing. “ how salacious. ” he states flatly. “ do make our acquaintance next you are able. ” voice still dry, kerim shakes his head to rid the moment. he’s unsurprised that is where kalore went. “ nyx made the first move, i was too slow. ” finally admitted, which was perhaps the more surprising part to all but kerim himself.
