Life

Kaoru tasted of salt, and felt like silk. Kenshin couldn’t get enough, pressing kisses along her collarbone, his breathing still labored, his body still overheated. He mouthed at her skin, any of her that he could reach without moving, relaxation thrumming through him. He let his eyes drift closed. Her hands were feather light on his back as he rested against her. She stroked along old scars, ridges of skin raised in stark relief from the muscles there.

“Kenshin?” Her voice was quiet, like drops in a silent pool.

“Hmmm?”

“So many.” Her fingers found a particularly large scar, the one that Saito had left. and she traced it several times.

“Mmm, this one is one of the lucky ones.”

“You survived.”

“…That too,” he laid his hand over her heart, and delighted in the feel of it, the steady beat of her life under his palm.

Her fingers drifted to the wound that Jineh had made, that had barely and miraculously missed his liver, ghosting over it, again and again, and then traveled to the bite mark on his shoulder. Her heart rate rose, and Kenshin shifted so that he was able to see her face through his bangs. She was upset. He was awash in peaceful lethargy and his wife was distressed. He frowned.

“Kenshin-” her voice caught, and her fingers kept mapping that scar, with it’s terrible, twisted lines. He knew what it looked like, and it was anything but reassuring or pretty. “Kenshin, you could have- so many times, Kenshin you could have-”

“But this one did not,” he interrupted gently, and caught her wrist, pulling her away from old pain. He brought her hand to his mouth, kissing her callused fingers before laying them over his own heart. “This one is here, with you.”

Her eyes were shining in the dark.

“Kaoru, this is more than this one ever thought to have. To lie here with you.”

Kaoru licked her lips. “Then always come home after. No matter what happens, always come home.”

“To you,” he agreed, and leaned down to kiss her, her palm caught between them. “This one will always return to you.”

Lines & color complete! I was particularly ambitious this time!

I think if Sano had grown up with Kenshin he would’ve spared him a lot of anguish

I actually made a doujin *gasspppp*!!

This took far longer than I anticipated, but I thoroughly enjoyed the process. I have newfound respect for mangakas, because truly every panel is a work of art made with every bit of love and care as deserving of standalone pieces. 

Done in Photoshop, almost entirely by hand (tablet), with only two custom brushes. If I’d known better I would have used something like MediBang Paint which actually has screen tones. Maybe next time.

Tidying up

I’ve reorganized the mess of my mind. Henceforth this page will be strictly a gallery for my RK fanart, and I’ll do reblogging on my other tumblr page (@sileavatar-reblogs​).

Also: I really want to draw the rest of the Kenshingumi soon. Particularly some SanoMeg. And definitely Soujirou too. And all the RK badass men... and women... and... that’s everyone right? Yikes there’s too much Kenshin swimming in my head and my hands can’t draw them fast enough! @__@

BONUS: I always enjoy seeing the progression of an artwork from start to finish (both for my own and others). Touch-ups of fine detailing & color shading can take almost half of the total drawing time. Sometimes I wonder if balancing the whole picture’s aesthetic might detract from the piece’s central message - which in this case is the loving gaze & touch shared between Kenshin and Kaoru. In the future I think I’ll make manga-like strips that emphasizes the details not immediately obvious when seeing the picture as a whole. Anyway, I’m done blathering now. Overall immensely proud of this work!

I couldn’t decide which style to use so here’s both! The soft palette was the obvious choice, but personally I ended up preferring the second one.

So my GF (aka Chichanz) had been begging for a chibi Kenshin eating cake ever since she read @mamoro2202 ’s fic (Ache - Chapter 6 Amae). Wish fulfilled.
