Ready Reference: Brewing Sleeping Draught (11 House Points)
The above book page reference is put up especially for newbies who are not accustomed to brewing this potion before, and for others, just in case :)
Did you know this potion is the fastest to brew, in terms of points won, though longest in terms of time taken!
General Instructions:
The sand timer will start the moment you click the first time on the book to reveal the potions desk, hence the usefulness of the above instructions page. However you can keep open the page as long as you want, without clicking it, the first time it appears on your screen.
Perform your steps exactly in order specified.
Once you complete any step, it is marked crossed out in the book. It's a good way to keep a tab on finished steps.
Pottermore is in beta stage, so there are numerous instances of error messages that are wrong; potions being reset to beginning once you click to brew them after completing Page 1 and returning after the specified waiting time, etc. Report all bugs to @pottermore on twitter without fail so that the Pottermore team can take care of that!
Notes on Steps of Page-1 (Sand Timer: 2 minutes & 35 seconds)
You can do your steps in a relaxed (not slow :) manner as sufficient time is given for doing steps of this page. So no need to rush through your steps.
Step 1: Adding lavender to the mortar 'Bug'
It is sometimes seen that while you put the lavender into mortar by dropping it to mortar from a little above of mortar, without making any physical contact between them, even though the ingredient count number will correctly confirm you the number of lavender put into mortar, when you wave your wand after finishing the process, that now famous error message "Sorry, your potion was not brewed correctly because you have put lavender in the wrong container" will show up, even when you obviously have not done that. Hard luck on that if it happens to you!
To avoid it, you best bet is to not drop lavender to the mortar from above, but drop it after making a physical contact between them.
Step 3: Conveniently crushing ingredients by pestle
See http://silverasphodel.tumblr.com/post/10236444777/crushingingredients
Step 4: Adding bottled ingredients like Flobberworm Mucus to cauldron
See http://silverasphodel.tumblr.com/post/10237631849/addingbottledingredients
Notes on Steps of Page-2
Steps in this page need to be done cautiously and at the same time done fast, as you will be able to finish all the steps just as the timer ends!
Step 1: Adding Standard Ingredients to your cauldron 'Bug'
It has been reported (and experienced :) that sometimes, you won't be able to pick up or access the Standard Ingredient at all, even though all other ingredients will be accessible. Hard luck on that, if it so happens in your case, after waiting a full 100+ minutes :|
Step 7: Stirring the cauldron 7 times quickly can be your Achilles heels!

SOS:
At any moment, if you know or have seen that you committed a mistake in steps, especially while on Page 1 of any potion brewing, instead of finishing the steps by waiving you wand, just REFRESH (F5) your page to restart, without wasting any of your ingredients.
However, if you REFRESH your page while on Page 2 while brewing your potion, your potion will revert to Page 1 stage.
And finally, Owl Me of any new bug or for any clarification, exercise caution, and take care :)

How to easily add bottled ingredients to cauldron!
Whether liquid or solid bottled ingredient, keep in mind that you need to handle the bottle gently, as in, do not subject it to a very fast motion (mouse movement) in a very short time, else the bottle may spill or unnecessarily spin and waste time and ingredients both.
Steps:
Raise the bottle gently to above cauldron rim, holding the bottle's cap end.
Move the bottle placing its end near cauldron's rightmost rim (as shown above) to use the cauldron edge as hinge for pouring ingredients.
Now using the cauldron rim/edge as hinge tilt the bottle (holding the cap end) into the cauldron mouth to pour ingredients.
When the required quantity is poured, gently straighten the bottle to its vertical position, and gently lower it on table until the bottle end doesn't touch the table surface. (Never drop your bottle midway from air :)
Caution:
The more the tilt into the cauldron mouth the faster the bottle will pour. So, at first, if you feel bottle is pouring at a faster rate, lower the inclination of tilt while pouring ingredients for a slower pouring rate.
You may also tilt and then straighten the bottle after a little pouring to keep a careful tab on the quantities being poured, especially when the quantities are as little as 2, and you don't have experience of pouring rates.
Note:
Same technique can be used to pour bottled ingredients into mortar, by hinging the bottle at the left rim of cauldron, and tilting to pour in mortar. However, caution should be exercised, so that the bottle pours into the mortar, and not in the space between the cauldron and mortar!
PS: By bottled ingredients, I only mean Mistletoe Berries, Lethe River Water, Lionfish Spines, Flobberworm Mucus, Horklump Juice, Dried Billywig Stings!

How to Crush ingredients easily and faster!
First things first, at the time of writing (September 15, 2011), there is an alternate way available for an easier crushing of potion ingredients in mortar.
Yes, the prescribed method is clicking on the pestle while the indicator turns green. But in this method, since the pestle is always moving while crushing the ingredients, sometimes the mouse loses contact with the moving pestle and you have to reclick on the pestle to continue crushing.
However, using this alternate method, the problem can be avoided by clicking constantly at any place in the highlighted region (as shown above) of mortar to crush, and stopping the clicks once the indicator turns green.
Caution: Please try once in training of Cure for Boils to familiarize yourself before trying realtime!

How to Stir Cauldron really fast and easy! (esp. useful in Sleeping Draught)
Well, holding the end of stirring spoon, make a full circular or elliptical motion (clockwise or anticlockwise, as required), keeping the path of motion well outside the cauldron mouth opening.
Whenever you complete a full cycle of motion, a stir is complete.
Stop when the counter shows the required no of stirs is complete.
Tip:
You can move the end of spoon along the circular or elliptical path as shown really fast without worrying about if the stirrer touches the cauldron end or not.
Practice in Cure for Boils training to see if you can use this way to your advantage in brewing Sleeping Draught, where time is short and stirring times is 7!
PS: I use this technique to safely stir 7 times in just about 4 seconds, while brewing Sleeping Draught (successfully :)
Wishlist: Those self-stirring cauldrons from Diagon Ally! ;)
