I just finished playing thru aventurine's pov and immediately wrote this small drabble of that scene. the betrayal in his voice... oof

“Ratio, you—”

Aventurine can’t help the feeling of betrayal that surges, the sudden sharp sting of hurt in his chest. He shouldn’t—he shouldn’t be feeling this betrayed, should’ve seen it coming. He gambled and he lost.

But—He lost because of Ratio. Because Ratio betrayed him to the Family, and that—that, hits harder than simply losing a wager, a gamble.

Ratio looks away, refuses to meet his eyes. Aventurine holds back a bitter laugh. Of course. His fault, for letting himself trust again. Hasn’t he already learned how cruel the world can be? Anything that he gains can be lost; he can hold on to nothing. How foolish of him, to have thought this—Ratio—could ever be an exception.

Everything has its price, and he supposes the Family, Sunday, found the one for Ratio’s allegiance. 

Sunday keeps talking, and Aventurine can’t help the biting remarks in response, the flare of resentment. “Shameless hypocrites… You took everything from me and still demand the truth?”

Everything—his cornerstone, his life, Ratio… 

Seventeen hours, and he can’t accept that it will end this way. 

He slams the door shut and refuses to look back.

Jakurai: We were somehow able to win, however, Samatoki’s team… has quite the skill. We were able to win by a hair’s breadth this time, but what of the next time? It wouldn’t be odd if Ichiro-kun’s or Amemura-kun’s teams won; that’s how close we were in terms of power.

[drinks]

Jakurai: If The Dirty Dawg made one last stand, perhaps Chuuouku would…

Jakurai: (laughs) I haven’t truly forgiven him yet, what am I thinking?

[doorbell rings]
