ZODIAC
A novella in verse
A catamite-astrologer predicts the death of his prince, and seals his own doom. A trans burger chain employee experiences sexual harassment in the workplace. Twenty-four poems arranged by the signs of the Zodiac detail these two lives and their ends.
I have been working on this for over a year now and I'm very pleased that it is finally ready to show people. It is very dear to my heart. I am selling it for just a fiver, which after itch.io's share gets me a cup of coffee - as many of you know, I am a disabled trans woman and I get SRS next weekend, so any purchases would really help support me through my recovery.
I really appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy Zodiac.

i fully respect and understand tma ppl who ache for motherhood, but at least personally i’ve found it helpful to sit longer with the nexus of power that crystallises around “having” “biological” “children”. a friend of mine is keen on pointing out that motherhood as biological production is inseparable in our society from chattel slavery, the manufacture of children as property. understanding this, we can step back from the question of “making” children and orient ourselves around forms of care that exceed or break that structure of familial property. fertility treatments including stuff like ivf and womb transplants are one avenue; then ofc there is care for children outside of familial networks, whether casually or thru deliberately organised insurgent care initiatives (i think there is an avenue here to challenge the place of work in these lineages of power; are the insurgent care needs of adults all that different from those of children?); and there is also the spiritual reality of childcare - i know multiple systems with children for headmates, that demand specific forms of love and attention, and any serious commitment to madlib and autonomy requires treating at least some forms of that as real motherhood in its own right. i don’t want anybody to feel ashamed of how their dysphoria manifests or to abandon dreams of motherhood. but i do want to think more carefully about how we might realise those dreams together without replicating the powers of this world. and we actually do have a lot of options! and in fact the contemporary trans groomer panic is designed to prevent us from seeing those options in the midst of a generalised imperial crisis in which existing enclosures of care are breaking down all around us

its funny isnt it? how you get to talking to a girl and she tells you shes had an easy ride transmisogyny wise but she’s still got the ex who made her perform for her safety, the precarity of her gender identity at work (whether affirming or denying femininity - always alienated), the gnawing feeling at the edges of words like “transgender” that he might not fit but cant safely express, the sexual assault, the browbeating she took once from a cis gay man about queerphobia… and you get to thinking that maybe what pushes a girl to tell another that she had an easy ride is a function of the same violence as all of the above. a learned ambivalence to her own suffering. her being “balanced” and “reasonable”. and then you tell her that - because you owe her that much - and you see that same ambivalence dance across her face, battling with a terrible and familiar grief. then you start to think it isnt actually very funny at all.

thinking here about trans woman or fag as a dump term to describe the ways in which tmas have, by giving up ability to labour or the position to dominate others from, become useless as men under patriarchal statecraft, but without much visible ability to perform reproductive labour (this remains largely invisible, tho very present in broader ways) the label of woman is largely applied as a catch-all to us. of course cis women are still v present in the gendering process, and so the status of ‘woman’ can be easily stripped away, simply because it was partially only there to serve as a catch-all for a group who represent a threat to the gendering process - it’s first function is to label those who can not meaningfully enforce the patriarchy with organised and structured violence as other than men, but then when further flaws to our ability to do patriarchy’s work become apparent, we are entirely degendered, to defang us completely. the isolation here is part of the issue - the work we still do appears invisible and we become objects to project whatever is wanted, or examples to demonstrate what happens to those who step out of line.
"transmisogyny is the basis of patriarchy" this is why you cannot be trusted
lmao this sounds so sinister :3
