BEDTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING: YES IT’S TIME.TO GET UNCONSCIOUS

     “  TEALEAF’S  JUST  ...  ECCENTRIC ,  I  GUESS ,  ”       milo huffs,  though whether it’s because of exasperation or,  gods forbid,  indulgence,  isn’t entirely clear.  his face just kinda scrunches  ;  an expression best described as the same kind you’d see in those videos of kids trying a lemon for the first time  ---  before shoving it in their mouths anyway.  esuna was an experience not unlike being exposed to an exceptionally bad and unfortunately catchy pop song,  and milo was just caught humming.  “ ...  she’s got a good head on her shoulders.  probably.”

his partly amused musing is quickly short - lived,  however,  face morphing to that of muted concern when he watches the visual struggle of emotions dance across luna’s face.  he scoots a little closer,  snagging one of the  ( admittedly,  many, )  blankets littered around the room before draping it across her shoulders,  frown setting deeper and deeper as he goes,  “...  i didn’t know you didn’t have a roommate yet.”

when he speaks again his expression is  ...  troubled,  to say the least,  “'re you holding out for the perfect roommate ? ”  he asks,  not unkindly,  but  ---  well.  he frowns at his uncharacteristic inadequacy,  shrugging off the strange and uncomfortable knot in his chest before continuing,  “sorry,  worded that weird.  i just mean i can help you look for one if you need it,  lu.”  he pauses,  the corners of his lips lifting  ;  his own lack of comfort making way for the easy thrum of fondness he feels for his best friend,  “and c’mon,  moonbeam  ---  you know that’s not true.  you’re the most patient,  kind,  n’ considerate person i know.  and i know for a fact that you have a good shower - singing voice,  which is always a plus for roommate - hunting.”

he turns soft with it,  gently resting his palm on her blanket - covered arm,  “anybody’d be an idiot to not want to room with you, lu,”  he smiles,  “now eat your soup,  yeah ?  that fever is just messing with your head.”

The siren nearly replied with a ‘ I’m glad you could too. ‘ like an awkward customer to a salesperson. But she’d catch her tongue instead choosing to scoop some soup onto her spoon and then into her mouth, Letting her mind idly retreat to that soft safe place that she’d seemed to end up at whenever Milo was at her side. However the mention of his roommate would cause her ear-fins to twitch just a twinge. And then the mention of his roommate being another GIRL only caused her eyes to widen slightly as she’d shovel hot soup into her mouth accidentally burning her tongue.

“A-ah, I hadn’t actually met Sprout formally yet uh… What is she like?” She’d sit her soup aside to cool stealing anxious glances at the other but ultimately ending up staring ahead at the television instead as to not bring any attention to herself, She didn’t want him  to suspect anything else was troubling her. “And actually, I hadn’t exactly gotten a roommate yet because I was holding out for-”

‘For what, Him?’ The tiny voice in the back of her head teased, Luna didn’t want to believe it but frankly it made a valid point even if she wouldn’t admit it to herself. She’d been fully capable to get a roommate this whole time and make things easier on her for when it came to paying rent yet she hadn’t even after living in the same place for what seemed like a good chunk of time.

“-I just hadn’t gotten around to it you know? Kept putting it off for whatever reason.” She’d chuckle weakly. “Maybe I’m just not cut out to have a roommate, Not roommate material or something.”

Emiko crossed her arms, her posture straightening as she tilted her head at Milo - now that she could see him awake, and not hunched over on the desk, well… he certainly looked better now.

“Yer waitin’ on me? Well I’m sorry, I didn’t mean t’keep ya. Though it looks like the both of us coulda used the rest.” She smirked, adjusting the strap of her bag. “Hey… are ya hungry? I was thinkin’ of grabbin’ a bite before headin’ home since I missed lunch and well, wouldn’t want anyone t’walk home on an empty stomach y’know?” She swayed her head a little, shifting the weight of her body from one foot to the other - cracking her signature smile an ingrained reaction these days whenever she they wanted someone to do something. The manipulations that become hard to shrug off when you’ve been a saleswoman your whole life.

“Oh, and I’m Emiko by the way.” Her smile changed, now softer. Warmer. As she offered a hand out to Milo.

     TO  SAY  MILO’S  SURPRISED  IS  AN  UNDERSTATEMENT ,       and the borderline cavalier and dismissive statement on his tongue dies much like a goblin caught in a food fight between damien and polly  ;  tragic,  unfulfilled,  and,  to be honest,  not wholly eventful or contributory to begin with.

still !  it must mean something,  at least,  when their eyes meet and he garners a response from her longer than approximately two  ( 2 )  quick lines of dialogue  ---  and that his immediate response isn’t to want to fall into a coma mid - conversation.  he’s almost caught,  even,  by the effortlessness of her gait and the ease of her smile,  and,  were he not a charmer by definition,  he’d even say he was nearly charmed himself.

as it was,  however,  personal experience taught him that charisma like that usually came with equal guile,  and  ...  well.  no one ever said milo wasn’t the curious type.

“s’fine,”  he hums,  guard carefully raised but still sleepily enticed all the same,  shifting his sealskin over his shoulders like a shawl as he gets up to stretch,  “people fall asleep here all the time  ---  no big.  library’s been through worse.  and having a few more hours to nap’s never been an issue for me,  anyways.”  he pauses,  perceptive and observant for just a moment before he’s back to yawning again,  gathering his things in one fell swoop.  “ ...  i won’t say no to food,  though,  if you’re offering.  and paying.”

there’s a split second where milo hesitates  ;  fingers twitching as a nearly indiscernible tell,  before he puts his hand in emiko’s,  nodding to cover up the way he pulls out of their shared grip almost immediately after.  “i’m milo,”  he smiles,  a tiny thing,  “where did you have in mind ?”

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again ; milo is primarily ( in the most meta way possible ) coded to be a background character first and an actual character ... idk, fourth, maybe ?? or maybe fifth hahaha

he definitely makes a point not to be noticed ( consciously, subconsciously, who knows, really ) but it isn’t really something anyone could notice unless you’re actively looking

i think, generally speaking, milo probably makes an active effort to actually avoid the main cast ( or, in the case of ocs --- main cast type characters )

aside from the more obvious forms of self preservation lmao, i’d like to think milo kind of has a habit of purposely smearing into the background. he’s all around a pretty unassuming guy ; and whenever a situation starts to escalate in the way it tends to do in the monprom universe, he’s pretty quick on the uptake and knows when to back out asap

and it isn’t like he’s going out picking fights or anything ( being a selkie doesn’t really give him any advantages outside of being like ..... universally anyone’s type lmfaofdhs ) and he’ll act civil when faced against any main characters --- he’s just more likely to keep them at arm’s length and as far away from him as possible
