Though not strictly an optical illusion, the Isihara Color Blindness test illustrates the variability of human perception. The numeral “82” here is clearly visible to viewers with normal color vision.

I think there's something about linguistics that explodes your brain because like, there are one hundred thousand different weird grammatical do-dads a language can have, and naively you look at them and go "oh these must be like related to culture or ideology or whatever, or have different effects on people's communication in this or that language, or the kinds of stories that are told, or" and then you learn a little more and it's like "well no they're kind of all just thrown together in a bunch of seemingly random combinations with historically contingent explanations, this language has polypersonal verb agreement and that language has classifier morphemes and it doesn't really seem to Mean anything at all" and then you learn a little more and it's like "with significantly high frequency languages with verb-first word order tend to describe possession using an 'it is at him' construction rather than a 'he has it' construction, this is true in multiple disconnected regions of the world, and nobody has any idea why" and you kind of shrug and go well rip to anyone who thinks they can understand society or the human mind I guess.

I can’t help but become unreasonably annoyed whenever I watch one of those “I tired using Linux!” videos, because they so often just get the most basic things wrong, and its like, sure everyone makes mistakes, but this is an edited video, where you have all the time in the world to fact check yourself or do more research. I’ve seen multiple videos where people try Linux Mint and then go, “This OS is cool, but it sucks how they only way to get software is to install it from the terminal :(.” when, fucking, Mint litterarly tells you about the Software Manager after you install the OS!!!
Tumblr media
Like look at this!!!!!!!! It mentions the Software Mananger right there!!!! You’re telling me you installed the whole fucking OS, used it for a week, filmed, edited and narrated a whole video about it, but never bothered to read the fucking introduction dialog that pops up after you install the thing?????
Like, sorry for getting this tilted over some fucking YouTube videos, but shit like that legit spreads misinformation about Linux and gives people a wrong idea of what using the OS is like.

Day one of being a curious Victorian child: I spent the early afternoon sailing my little paper boat along the river at the bottom of our estate, when all of a sudden, I was met by a friendly vole who offered me a ride in a real boat!
Of course, I accepted his offer with delight. I could just barely squeeze myself into the vole-sized boat, but soon I was bobbing along on the babbling water, as happy as could be. It was only as I approached the enormous whirlpool under the apple tree that I realised I hadn't brought a pair of oars - good heavens, what shall become of me?!

Queering the binary between binary and non-binary: some things are arranged in a multi-dimensional spectrum, BUT the dimensions are strongly correlated and the distribution is strongly bimodal so using a binary model is useful in most cases for practical purposes, BUT the correlations are still not perfect and the modes still blur at the edges so if you mistake that model for reality you're going to have a bad time
