I’ve been trying to read Ulysses by James Joyce lately, and because it’s so challenging to read and usually takes readers implementing a different strategy in reading it, I was inspired to make this meme.

Goes to show how old I am:
Growing up I was always startled by the startup sounds on our family computer, specifically the “ta-da” sound you’d get when starting up Windows 3.1. So when I’d boot up the family computer (or my second-hand computer later on that I had in my bedroom) I’d always turn down the volume on the speakers while the computer was starting up.
It’s the same reason I didn’t like playing Minesweeper. (And also, I was just not good at it.)
When I was little I had an irrational fear of when you tried to turn off your Windows XP and the screen would gradually turn Grey as you choose which power option to enter

That shit was SCARY!!!

I went with 2 because I don’t mind reading nonfiction if I come across a book with an interesting topic. And there are several nonfiction books in my TBR bookcase at the moment.

I came across a screen cap of post that had a couple of pictures of Freddie Mercury posing on top of car, and the post read that he would have loved Instagram. Here’s the screen cap below.

So, with that in mind, the question I’m posing for today is:
What social media platforms do you think celebrities who died before the age of social media would have absolutely enjoyed using?
Here are a few of mine:
Marilyn Monroe would have probably taken to Instagram and posted a lot of behind the scenes stuff from film and photo shoots.
Burt Lancaster would be posting political hot takes on Twitter. (Ed Asner once referred to him as being a “liberal with balls”).
So would Barbara Stanwyck, although many of her Twitter posts would be stumping for GOP candidates and simping for Ayn Rand.
Rudolph Valentino would be making TikToks.
Jim Morrison would probably be posting poetry on Tumblr and also running a blog on Substack just to muse about whatever was on his mind at the time.
Janis Joplin would be posting covers on YouTube.
Jimi Hendrix would also be on YouTube, but posting videos of his guitar playing and maybe the occasional lesson.
Kurt Cobain would be shitposting on Tumblr.
Jayne Mansfield would have probably been extremely active on Instagram, but also blogging on Substack. (She was quite intelligent in real life and was nicknamed “Hollywood’s Smartest Dumb Blonde”.)
Marlon Brando would probably make a single Instagram post and then say, “Fuck it”, and refuse to post any more. He’d follow just one or two other accounts.
Those are just a few that come to mind for me.

Five Years
As I write this, last Tuesday (10 June) marked five years since my mom’s death from Alzheimer’s. Five years seems like such a milestone. Five years without her presence, five years without her smile, five years without her warmth and kindness. And this has been five years of a new normal for me and my dad. So, I figured I’d write a bit about how we’ve been doing lately. How My Dad’s Doing My…

“Why wasn't friendship as good as a relationship? Why wasn't it even better? It was two people who remained together, day after day, bound not by sex or physical attraction or money or children or property, but only by the shared agreement to keep going, the mutual dedication to a union that could never be codified. Friendship was witnessing another's slow drip of miseries, and long bouts of boredom, and occasional triumphs. It was feeling honored by the privilege of getting to be present for another person's most dismal moments, and knowing that you could be dismal around him in return.”

That’s pretty much how the other Pythons reacted to Graham being gay. They were pretty much, like, “Cool” and went to writing their punchlines.
There’s a story about him that’s been recounted over the years. Quoted from the Monty Python Wiki article about Graham Chapman:
“After Chapman made his homosexuality public, a member of the television audience wrote to the Pythons to complain that she had heard a member of the team was gay, and included in the letter a Biblical passage calling for all homosexuals to be stoned to death. With fellow Pythons already aware of his sexual orientation, Eric Idle replied, ‘We've found out who he was and we've taken him out and had him shot!’”
All six members had their roles within the group, and Graham’s was (somewhat ironically) being the “straight man”. He also had his moments of pure silliness, but he was at his best when being the levelheaded one to serve as a foil for the absolute tomfoolery going on around him.

this could’ve happened tbh

Well, I just discovered a few days ago that Red Dwarf is on Peacock, so I’m watching the first episode now to see what all the hype is about.
I’ve heard a lot about this show, but I haven’t seen it yet.

Technically, more like on the table than the counter, but I don’t put sliced bread in the fridge or freezer at all. I prefer to keep my bread in a more open environment. (We usually get potato bread anyway, which has a little longer shelf life than regular bread.) I never put bread in a pantry or bread box because the dark environment (especially in a warm and humid place like Florida) will make the bread go moldy faster.
The only time I store bread in the freezer is if I’ve gotten bread from the bakery section such as ciabatta or French bread, because bakery section bread tends to have a really short shelf life. If I do that, I’ll usually defrost it by placing the frozen bread on a baking sheet and heating it up in an oven set to either 400°F or 425°F for around 8-10 minutes. It both defrosts the bread and also toasts it a little bit.
please….. please everyone im losing my fucking shit
reblogs for reach are so so so appreciated i want this to get to as many people as possible im trying to gather data

The Masked Singer: S13 Finale Predictions
As I think I’ve already figured out the identities of the remaining competitors, I will not be posting running commentary for tonight’s finale, but instead, I’ll be posting who I think each remaining singer is and how I think they’ll place.
There are still four singers left, as no one was eliminated last week. This was due to this season’s clue giver character, Detective Lucky Duck 🕵️♂️ 🦆, deciding to unmask instead. He revealed himself to be none other than comedian, actor, and filmmaker (and former guest star on The Tribe alongside his friend, Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement) Taika Waititi. Taika also happens to be married to panelist Rita Ora, who has been filling in for Nicole Scherzinger for the last couple of seasons due to Nicole’s run in the musical Sunset Boulevard on both West End and Broadway. (The Broadway production is due to close in the next few weeks, so who knows if we’ll see Nicole again next season?)
All right, here are my predictions:
Fourth place: Coral 🪸
Who I Think They Are: Meg Donnelly
Third place: Mad Scientist Monster 👨🔬 👹
Who I Think They Are: Brian Kelley (formerly of Florida Georgia Line)
Runner-Up: Pearl 🦪
Who I Think They Are: Gretchen Wilson
Winner: Boogie Woogie 🪩 🕺
Who I Think They Are: Andy Grammer

No Masked Singer commentary from me tonight. We’ve been having a host of technical issues here with our Internet recently where the modem will randomly cut out. Since our TiVo requires an Internet connection to establish recording service, there’s a chance that anything scheduled to record tonight won’t record. My dad contacted the cable and Internet provider earlier today and they will be sending us a new modem, which should hopefully arrive in the next few days. I’m currently using my phone to access the internet (which thankfully our mobile provider has an unlimited data plan).
Anyway, Nessy 🐉 🏴 was eliminated last week (in the narrowest audience vote in the show’s history) and revealed to be Edwin McCain.
As a reminder, here are who I think the four remaining contestants are:
Pearl 🦪: Gretchen Wilson
Coral 🪸: Meg Donnelly
Mad Scientist Monster 👨🔬 👹: Brian Kelley
Boogie Woogie 🪩 🕺: Andy Grammer
My prediction as to who will be leaving the competition this week: Coral 🪸.

I think at this point in the season I’m pretty sure of who all the remaining masked singers are, so I won’t be doing a running commentary tonight.
However, there are still three rounds remaining, if I remember correctly. Tonight’s show is described as the “Quarterfinals”, which would imply a semifinal taking place before the finale.
So, I’m going to quickly remind you of my guesses for the five remaining contestants. And yes, Paparazzo 📸 was indeed revealed to be Matthew Lawrence. (Which means we need to see the third Lawrence brother, Andrew, in a future season!)
Mad Scientist Monster 👨🔬 👹: Brian Kelley (formerly of Florida Georgia Line)
Nessy 🐉 🏴: Edwin McCain
Coral 🪸: Meg Donnelly
Pearl 🦪: Gretchen Wilson
Boogie Woogie 🪩 🕺: Andy Grammer
Instead of a running commentary, I’m going to give my prediction on who is the most likely to be eliminated tonight.
The three I think are most likely in danger to be eliminated tonight are:
Coral 🪸
Pearl 🦪
Nessy 🐉 🏴
And my pick to leave the competition tonight is:
Nessy 🐉 🏴
I think Pearl would be the next most likely to leave if it’s not Nessy tonight.

I’m taking the week off from writing about The Masked Singer this week, but I figured I’d write down my guesses for the Lucky Six this week, and hopefully I’ll be back again next week.
So, my current guesses for the Lucky Six are:
Boogie Woogie 🕺 🪩: Andy Grammer
Pearl 🦪: Gretchen Wilson
Nessy 🐉 🏴: Edwin McCain
Mad Scientist Monster 🧑🔬 👹: Brian Kelley
Coral 🪸: Meg Donnelly
Paparazzo 📸: Matthew Lawrence
Again, these are just my guesses, not spoilers.

The Masked Singer: S13 E9 (Group C Finals, “Decades Night”)
After a self-imposed week off last week (where we found out Stud Muffin 🧁 was not an NBA player after all, but the Wu Tang Clan’s own Method Man), I’m back this week for the last round of group competition before the remaining masked singers compete in the “Lucky 6” next week. Two singers move on from this round, while one will be unmasked. As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so these guesses are not intended to be spoilers.
Yorkie 🐕: Raised by a single mom. I think I saw a skull with a top hat on a mailbox (Paul Shaffer was Skeleton in a past season). We saw a set of keys on a leash. The bonus clue: a record reading “Show Dog”. The internet seems to think this is a star from the Real Housewives franchise. Which one? I couldn’t begin to tell you. I have a feeling she’ll be unmasked tonight unless Nessy or Mad Scientist Monster massively fail.
Mad Scientist Monster 🧑🔬 👹: Says he won every award possible. We also see The Sun (who was LeAnn Rimes in a past season). We see a pickup truck. Says he was part of a group but ended up going solo. I’m still pretty sure this is Brian Kelley from Florida Georgia Line. A past clue package showed a cruise ship (“Cruise” was Florida Georgia Line’s biggest crossover hit), and the pickup truck could also be a reference to “Cruise” (the chorus mentions “a brand new Chevy with a lift kit”, which is a pickup truck that has been modded for higher suspension, which allows for bigger tires to be added). The bonus clue: a tablet reading “Season 4”, saying he’s performed with someone from Season 4 of the show. Season 4 was won by LeAnn Rimes (The Sun 🌞), but there was another country singer on there, too: Clint Black, who was one half of the Snow Owls ❄️ 🦉 along with his wife Lisa. So, he could have conceivably performed with either of them, but I think with the additional Sun clue in the clue package he’s likely referring to LeAnn Rimes.
Nessy 🐉 🏴: So many people were suggesting Daryl Hall from Hall & Oates, but this clue package seems to suggest that Nessy grew up in the 1980s, and is thus a little too young to be Daryl Hall. He says he opened for REO Speedwagon, and we also see a metal bee. Could be a reference to Gladys Knight? (She was Bee 🐝 in a past season.) Or perhaps the Christian metal band Stryper? (Their logo is black and yellow like a bee.) He’s known for singing love songs. We see a treadmill. Based on the accent and the metal bee, I think this might be Edwin McCain! We also see a snowman. Edwin McCain has a very distinct South Carolina accent when he talks, and his biggest hit is a love song called “I’ll Be”. The bonus clue: a tape reading “Bieber & Puth”. Apparently both Justin Bieber and Charlie Puth have covered his songs. I think I also saw some roses in the clue package (went back and watched it, and yep…he’s tossing some roses!), and the album that “I’ll Be” appears on is called Misguided Roses. I’m going with Edwin McCain.
