We Belong Together (Part 10)
I’m...alive, but just barely. Miss you all and take care of yourselves.
Word count: 1056
Tumblr media
“Y/N,” your maid of honor said while you were in the middle of doing your makeup, “there’s someone here to see you.” She peered into your dressing room to see if there was anyone else in there with you and let your visitor know you were alone.
The biggest part (and the least realistic part, if you were being honest) hoped it was Jooheon telling you he wanted to postpone everything or preferably cancelling it altogether. Every moment you got closer to walking down the aisle was a moment you’d never get back. But you also didn’t want anyone to talk you out of your decision. You made it this far already.
“Tell them to go away. I’m still not ready.” You could feel the stylist doing your hair digging the brush into your scalp and pulling the strands a little too hard, making you briefly wonder if you had a bald spot. You would’ve reached up to check but a small noise from the stylist kept you from doing so.
“I actually resent that,” Seungkwan’s familiar voice chimed in as he stepped inside. “After all I’ve done for you, this is the thanks I get. I even brought you a gift.” You saw him swinging a Christmas bag in and out from your peripheral vision, as if taunting and tempting you to snatch it from him and rip open the bag.
Not that you could’ve done that anyways. Your heartbeat sped up at hearing him. Seungkwan had always reminded you of mischievous three am prank calls directed at Beomju and Minhyun (neither of which showed up yet) and you don’t know why you were expecting to see a disposable phone in his hand and letting your latest victim know their delivery ended up in Tucson, Arizona. So many times Jihoon had to burst into the lounge room to shut the both of you up because he could hear you through his headphones in Universe Factory. Oh what you wouldn’t give for just one more of those moments.
“Seungkwan,” you breathed, your nerves making their way to their arms and hands and your eyes prickled as you stood up, possibly ruining whatever was being done to you and you hugged him, wanting nothing more than to collapse and tell him everything. But despite that, the most genuine smile you had was the first all day. He let you hug him as long as you wanted, making no movement except holding you a little tighter and you sniffled at that, and you composed yourself before you finally let go.
“I don’t know if I’m early or late in telling you this but congratulations,” he smiled warmly at you, giving you some kind of feeling.
“Thanks,” you mumbled. “I’m glad you made it. You’re actually the first face from everyone I invited that I see.” You reluctantly stepped away from him, your heart breaking all over again and peered past him to see who accompanied him. “Who else-”
“I just got here with Jeonghan, Mingyu, Minghao and Vernon. Cheol, Joshua and Soonyoung are still getting ready but everyone else is already here.”
“Oh good.” You smiled, equally guilty and a little giddy that they still thought of you. “Is Jihoon-”
“Sorry Y/N, he said he was busy today and wouldn’t make it. At all.” He shook his head as spoke.
“That’s okay. I know he has a lot on his plate, especially these days.” That hurt a lot more than you wanted it to even though you had prepared yourself for it. You really wanted to ask him about everything and everyone, especially the boy you had fallen for once upon a time. (And never really stopped, if you allowed yourself to be honest.)
You shook the thought away, another smile on your face, this one a little more forced. “Well go have fun. Enjoy the snacks. I asked Jooheon to have them handy especially for you guys.” You gave him one last hug, not as long but just as necessary in case you broke down or something. “It’s so good to see you. It’s been a very long time.”
“Once you’re married, you better make time for us,” he threatened you. “Or else we won’t be friends anymore.”
You knew he was kidding; you could see the way he smiled mischievously but you still had to stare up at the ceiling to ensure your makeup wouldn’t run because that felt more like a jab to your soul. And you were glad he didn’t notice that you almost cried from that. Or if he did, you were happy he didn’t comment on that.
“Oh, Tobi Lou called Vernon just as we left the dorms. His flight was delayed an hour so if you see him in the audience in his pajamas, spare him.” He checked his phone. “Okay, I really have to go now. ‘Bye!”
You sniffled again, going back to your chair, a couple tears falling in the process, but you wiped them away quickly, instead laughing at the mental image of Tobi running behind you, only to slide in next to one of the guys and apologizing in a loud whispery voice and for everyone to carry on. You swiped a couple more away, trying so hard to stop.
“Y/N, are you okay?” One of the stylists asked you. He placed a comforting hand on your shoulder and it took everything in you not to shake it off.
No, you weren’t. This was all wrong. “I’m fine,” you assured them. “Something just popped in my head right now. I’m sorry if I ruined my makeup.” And everyone’s lives you’ve ruined, are currently ruining and will ruin.
“What did you think of?”
Jihoon should’ve been the one in Jooheon’s place. He should’ve been the one to reassure you this was why you were together, to complete one another. He should be the one to write you a song and perform it later in the day. He should be calling you soon to tell you to meet him in the alley because he can’t handle you marrying someone else. He should say he still loves you and wouldn’t be leaving until he heard it from you. Just once.
“One of my friends from America is running late, and I hope he’s able to make it.”

Miracle (Lee Jihoon)
Happy birthday @peachy-hoon! A million thank yous will never suffice but I can always give you this! I’m sorry for any mistakes; I literally uploaded this as I finished. And you know, it’s not my best work, but alas.

“And that’s a wrap!” Jihoon spoke into the mic to let Wonwoo know he was done for the day and without waiting for him to leave the recording studio, removed his headphones and stuffed his sweater and whatever he could fit into his backpack and ran out of Universe Factory, the door wide open and leaving his confused, but amused friend to tidy up the small room. In his rush he literally ran into Jeonghan, who ended up throwing all the papers in his hands, and Jihoon, although didn’t like running behind schedule, stayed to help pick up the mess he made.
“Where are you going in such a rush?” The older boy teased, checking the papers he had in his hand to make sure they were all in order and ready for presentation.
“Home.” Not bothering to check the pages, Jihoon handed them over and let Jeonghan sort them out.
“It’s still early, don’t you think? Soonyoung said he still has to go through the choreography and Seungcheol wanted everyone present for the meeting.” The impish smile had formed on Jeonghan’s face before he finished his sentence.
“Soonyoung said he’d record it for me and Seungcheol already told me everything I need to know.” Jihoon searched for his cellphone, groaning internally when he realized that he had left it in the practice room when he dropped the towels off for his clingy friend.
“Aren’t you gonna help me put these back in order?” Jeonghan asked when he saw him walking away.
“You have that handled well enough.”
“I’m missing the first page, and I had it before you knocked me over.”
“Don't do this to me right now Jeonghan.” This time, the groan he let out was external. “I have plans that I can’t break.” Well, he could if he wanted to, but he wasn’t gonna.
“You’re not going anywhere until I find it.”
“It’s under your shoe. I’ll grab it for-move Jeonghan. I need all the time I can get.” Jihoon crouched to pick up the piece of paper.
“Why not just invite Y/N over so you stay a little longer and then you can leave together.” Jeonghan not so subtly moved his foot along with the paper so he wouldn’t take it so easily.
“I don’t think so.” He pushed his older friend, momentarily making him lose his balance and successfully retrieved the paper, squinting his eyes to read it and looking confused. “How is this our fault?”
“It’s not. The CEO is already talking to Jun about it and we’re supposed to see what measures we can take from happening again.”
“Then shouldn’t we talk to Yanan about it? I don’t know why they thought squawking every time their ringtones went off and unnecessarily texting each other throughout the day is our fault.” And both of them were messaging both groups, but he didn’t need to add that part. Instinctively, his hand went to his pockets, ready to make sure his phone stayed on silent, but he remembered he didn’t have it.
“If it gets the CEO off our backs, I don’t care what we have to do.” Jeonghan took out his own mobile device, shutting the noise off as a safety precaution. “I dreamt Yanan was part parrot twice already.” He shuddered at some memory.
“Okay, so I’ll see you tomorrow then. Bright and early and not a minute more. I have a song for you and Mingyu to go through.” He was ready to step past him when Jeonghan grabbed him by the collar and pulled him back slightly.
“Do you really have to go though? This hyung hasn’t eaten lunch and it’s your turn to buy.”
Woozi let out a deep sigh, took out his wallet, smiled briefly at the picture he had of you, and pulled out his debit card, along with the loose change he had. “You know my pin number and this is literally for anything else. ‘Bye.”
“Will Y/N be okay with you staying longer?”
“Yes, but I won’t be.” He turned the other way to head over to the practice room, only instead of seeing Soonyoung, he found Chan in the middle of a choreo practice. “Sorry, I’m just here for my phone.”
Chan hit the pause button on the remote, and gratefully took the towel Jihoon provided. “Oh, uh, I haven’t seen it. Maybe Hoshi hyung took it when he left?”
“Okay, I’ll see you guys tomorrow then.” Although he wasn’t thrilled to be phoneless the rest of the day, he figured that no one important would try to get a hold of him and if he managed to convince you to turn it off, then it’d be foolproof.
“Hyung, what are you today with Y/N that you’re not staying here with us?” Chan wadded up the towel and threw at him when Jihoon shook his head.
“Nothing, for real. I just wanna go home and take a nap on the couch.”
“I don’t believe you, but go ahead and leave us to suffer with our evil CEO and Joshua hyung.”
“I don’t know what you did but I’m glad you did it. Now Bumzu is in charge of getting the chorus done before you leave ton-stop looking at me like that. I’m not abandoning you.”
“You’re leaving us for Y/N.”
“I already had these plans.” And not even his best friends would hold him up.
“Okay fine, don’t tell me what super fun, cool thing you’re gonna do while we just slave away here.”
Jihoon began walking away, backwards and slowly. However, he couldn’t hold back the smirk on his face. “We aren’t doing anything or going anywhere. I’d ask you guys to come over after work to see for yourself, but I don’t wanna.”
“Ever since you and Y/N started dating, you’ve changed.” The fake sniffle Chan let out almost sent Jihoon to the floor but he managed to reach the door and once he took a bow, walked out.
*
Jihoon let himself in quietly, just in case you were asleep or on the phone with someone important to you, but he was greeted with a Stray Kids song coming from the living room. He smiled while he watched “Back Door”, nodding to himself when he saw Bang Chan. He admired the leader, and respected his choices regarding his group, but if anything, it was how much you fawned over him that made him petty. (Not in the sense that whenever you argued, he’d tell you to be with him, but rather he thrived on the idea that if he was with you in public and you came across Chan, Jihoon could always be satisfied in knowing that you were on his arm, and bragging about him.)
He did make a note to remind himself to tell the boys  that your friend wanted Seventeen to do the choreo and if he could just remember it one day, it’d be great.
“Jagi?” He called out so he’d know where you were.
“I’m not home,” was your response and with that, followed the sound of your voice that led him into the kitchen. “You’re early.”
He placed a kiss on your hair and let you finish the dishes while he checked the mail you left on the table. Bills, spam, a few unknown addresses written to you and he could only assume you found more photocards and you’d show them to him later. “How was work?”
“They wanted me to stay a little longer but I told them I couldn’t.”
“So just about the same as me.” He tore up the junk mail, and threw it in the trash. “What’s that smell?” He asked, wrinkling his nose.
“I might have burned the first batch of cookies, while I was in the shower. But don’t worry, thes ones in the oven are almost done and they’ll be good for dinner.” You turned around to wave at him, but he stood up, opened a pack of peach gummies for you and fed you one. “Speaking of, what sounds good?”
He wrapped his arms around you, back hugging you while you resumed your chores. “I’m not hungry right now. How about you throw these in the dishwasher and we can just watch movies and we’ll make food later?”
“Vacuum the living room first and then I’ll go meet you there. I have to clean the bathroom after this and dust my shelves and-” you sighed, “-so much to do.”
“But you’re not working tomorrow. Can’t you do that?”
“I have plans tomorrow and I won’t be home until late.”
“Fine, I’ll help you do our chores so you can finish and then we’ll watch something that Wonwoo swore was good.”
He kissed your cheek, only to jump slightly when you yelled out, “Ateez present!”, followed by, “Turn the TV up. I love this song!”
He nodded but didn’t say anything else, instead running around the apartment with the vacuum cleaner and you occasionally scolding him because you couldn’t hear your favorite songs, and after that, collecting all the trash to throw out so you wouldn’t have to go outside and lose whatever motivation you had. He liked when you had energy like that; it usually made him wonder what other things you had done, like the fact you changed the bedsheets this time, washed his clothes, and baked some dessert. You worked extra hard today and he couldn’t wait to have you sit next to him and watch something that you wouldn’t focus on, but you’d have a good night’s sleep if that happened. He wished he could do what you did in the short amount you’ve been home.
You somehow managed to finish at around the same time, but he could see you weren’t tired because you were teasing the cat with all its toys. (The cat he said he didn’t want when you bought the apartment, but for some reason couldn’t bear parting with the stray so now, he was an active member of the family, but he wasn’t complaining. The feline kept you company when he was gone and it strangely put Jihoon at ease.) “Haha, you’re too slow. Come grab it now.” You picked him up, trying not to wince when one of the claws came out. “Come on pretty boy. You’re gonna watch a movie with us tonight.”
Jihoon was already waiting for you, your favorite blanket ready to be claimed and the snacks ready to be eaten. “Come on Jagi. You don’t know how long I was waiting to do this with you.” He extended his arms wide enough for you to fall into them, and when you did, wrapped them around you, sighing contentedly. “You know I can stay like this forever, right?”
He kissed your forehead when you nodded, and you could feel the tiredness creeping in. He always made your long days a little better and you often wished you could be the beacon of energy he needed, and you tried really hard to be that. Your work’s complaints could wait for another day, but this couldn’t. “Thank you for coming home early.”
You could feel yourself falling asleep a little into the movie, not because you were bored, but because you were so warm and comfortable and you didn;t wanna break your little bubble. Jihoon played with your hair, further lulling you into a slumber and when he placed random kisses on you, you just silently asked for more. So it surprised you when the doorbell rang and you looked at him. “Did you order dinner?”
“No. Did you?” Then came the hard knocking and you recognized it immediately, and you let out a laugh.
“They didn’t,” Jihoon groaned. “I told them no. Just ignore them and they’ll go away.”
“Is that why you turned my phone off earlier?”
“Yes. I don’t always get this time with you.”
“Should I just let them in? You know they won’t stop until we open the door.” You didn’t know how long you stayed liked, but you reluctantly got off of Jihoon and opened the door, him muttering profanities and threatening to put them through hell the next time they were due to record.
“Y/N, you’re here!” Seungkwan pushed through everyone to hug you. “How come you don’t visit us? Don’t you love us anymore?”
“Dude, I’ve been so busy lately. I’m sorry.”
“WAIT!” Chan cried loud enough to wake your neighbors so you put a finger to your lips to quiet him down. “So Hyung was telling the truth when he said you weren;t doing anything?”
“We literally just cleaned the house and we were gonna watch a movie until bed.”
“Wow, you’re not fun.”
You counted all the heads, multiple times, frowning a little when you counted the 12. “I haven’t made dinner and we were just gonna have noodles.”
“Oh good! We’re starving.” Someone pushed Wonwoo and they all rushed inside, quickly making themselves at home. Jihoon shot you an apologetic look and you smiled at him. You enjoyed Seventeen’s company, but Jihoon shook his head, trying to look annoyed at their presence, but the smile he tried to hide was confirmation enough to have them here for a little.
“Everyone is having ramen form the packet and if you don’t like it, then you can go and get your own food.” Your eyes widened when you saw the time on the stove. It felt so much later than it actually was.
“I just wanna know why you guys are here and not at home.”
“Hyung, you invited me earlier, remember? While I was working on the choreo and you were looking for your phone.”
“That reminds me. Catch Woozi!” Soonyoung fished the phone out of his pocket and threw it at his best friend, snickering when he failed to catch it.
“I didn’t invite you. I said I wish I could, but I don’t want to.”
“Well, we’re already here and Y/N said we could stay.”
“But please not so late; I’m working tomorrow. But later this weekend, you can go nuts.”
*
“I thought you weren’t working,” Jihoon asked after the unexpected guests left.
“I’m not, but like you said, we don’t always have time to do this.”
“You’re the best. Go play the movie; I can finish right here. Thank you.”
“For what?”
“Not kicking them out. You could’ve done that.”
“They were already here.” You shrugged. “I guess you guys still need each other sometimes.”
“Still, I appreciate that.” He lightly pushed you to the living room, though you couldn’t actually sit down. There was a small mess you could’ve ignored, but you were already up and you didn’t know how long it’d be until Jihoon finished. Plus it wouldn’t take long, especially since your favorite boy was sound asleep on his tower after Jun and Vernon chased him around.
And you also also had to change Netflix accounts so no one would be confused about anything. Luckily, no one touched your stuff, so you were able to find your spot fairly quickly and Jihoon came by just in time, with two of your cookies in his hand, and handed one to you.
“I love you, you know that?”
He nodded. “Let’s finish watching this, so we can go to sleep.” He flopped on the couch, once again extending his arms to you, where you met him with small pecks and flushed cheeks.
You finally pressed play again, hoping for no more interruptions until the next day, quickly falling into your previous state of almost falling asleep right then and there. “I love you Jihoon,” you mumbled to him again.
He shut his eyes in his euphoric state, letting your words warm him up before he responded to you, quietly enough that not even your favorite boy could hear.
“You are my miracle.”

Stood Up (Lee Jihoon)
Wow I have little consistency here. BUT. Here we are. Anyway I wrote this, hated it, deleted it all, and then rewrote it but flipped. SO ENJOY! 💛

9 -  “You know, you can stay if you want.”
Tumblr media
You leaned on the counter, sighing to yourself. Of course this was going to be another slow evening. You just wanted to go home. That was all you wanted to do. You wanted to go home, curl up under a blanket, and finish that book you started last night that kept you up until about 3am. The book which you thought you had put in your bag this morning but apparently did not. Oh how much you wanted to just say screw it and leave right now.
But your bills argued otherwise, so you had to stay at the almost empty restaurant.
“Bored?” You heard, turning your head to see Mingyu, writing some notes from a textbook you didn’t even bother to comprehend. He told you what he was studying at least 4 times, but frankly it never managed to stick into your skull.
“So bored.” You sighed, starting to try and keep your pencil standing straight up. Stupid counters not being even, surely that’s why you couldn’t get it to stand up.
“Want to help me study?” He asked, causing you to just stare at him. After several seconds of staring, Mingyu shrugged and turned back to his book.
“Fine, sit in boredom until you’re done then.” He said, starting to read the page, his hand scribbling next to him. You stuck your tongue out at him, knowing he didn’t even see it and turned to face the door.
You quickly stood up as the door opened, seeing a single man walk in.
“Hello!” You greeted, smiling at him. “Table for one?” You asked, the man looking at you.
“Uh… Two, actually.” He said, you nodding.
“Ah, gotcha. You can just sit in any of the open booths, I’ll grab you some waters.” You smiled, walking in back to get the drinks. You carefully walked the two waters to the table, setting one down in front of the man and the other across from him.
“Would you like menus or would you like to wait for your date?” You asked, the man looking at you. To your surprise, he let out a nervous chuckle.
“Ah, it is kind of obvious this is a date, huh?” He asked, you shrugging.
“I didn’t mean to assume…” You said, and he quickly waved his hand.
“No, no you were right. It’s uh… It’s a blind date actually. My friend Soonyoung said he knew this person who would be a good fit for me and went on a whole thing about how I don’t really date and meet people so he kind of badgered me into going on this date and I don’t know he showed me a picture and I guess they are kind of cute but now I’m worried it’s going to go terribly or we won’t match up well or I won’t be enough for them and…” He looked up at you, staring back at him. “...That was… That was too much information huh?”
“...Just a bit.” You said, seeing the man’s face turn red. “Can uh… Can I bring you something else to drink?”
“Coke please.” He said, clearing his throat. You nodded, walking back to the counter, Mingyu looking at you with an eyebrow raised.
“What was that about?” He quietly asked, nodding his head towards the man.
“Blind date.” You whispered back, Mingyu nodding and looking at him again. You grabbed the soda and brought it back, setting it next to his water.
“I’ll be back in a bit with menus then… If you need anything else my name is Y/N.” You smiled, pointing at your nametag.
“Thanks.” He said, giving you a small smile. You quickly nodded your head, turning to head behind the counter before you seemed too flustered. He was fairly cute.
You managed to get a little busier, handling most of the people coming in so Mingyu could study (you agreed to split the tips from his usual tables, and he did help when you had three orders at once). However, your eyes kept darting back to the single man, sitting alone at the booth. Still.
During one of your down times, you watched him as he scrolled through his phone, occasionally stopping to watch something or type out a message. Maybe to his date? Maybe to his friend, possibly the one named Soonyoung? Maybe he was just typing notes for later.
“Still no date, huh?” Mingyu asked, standing next to you.
“Doesn’t look like it.” You said, tilting your head.
“What?” Mingyu asked, chuckling a bit.
“What kind of person do you think is going to show up?” You absentmindedly asked, glancing at Mingyu after a second. Mingyu shrugged, looking at the man.
“I don’t know. At this rate I’d say a kind of shitty one.” He said, causing you to hit his arm. “What? The guy has been sitting there for almost an hour. They clearly haven’t cancelled or informed him, because he would have left by now.” Mingyu said, looking at you.
“Maybe they’re just running late.”
“If they were running this late, they would have rescheduled.” Mingyu sighed. “Gotta say, dude has hope. I would have left a half hour ago.” Mingyu added, turning to bring a plate to another table. You turned back to the man, who was now looking out the window. You picked up a menu, bringing it over to the table.
“So… Do you want to order something now and then your date can-”
“They’re not coming.” He said, looking up at you and giving you a slightly sad smile.
“What?” You asked, blinking at him.
“I couldn’t reach them, so I asked my friend about 20 minutes ago. Something apparently came up last minute and they couldn’t come.” He said, tapping the menu.
“Oh… I’m sorry.” You added, the man shrugging.
“It’s not your fault.” He said, giving you another sad smile. “I was just kind of looking forward to it a little more than I thought, I guess.”
“Why did you stay so long then?” You asked, tilting your head. “If you knew they weren’t coming 20 minutes ago, why did you stay here?”
“I don’t know. I would have felt embarrassed for you and the other guy to see me leave alone.” He said, nodding at Mingyu behind the counter. “But uh… I guess I can leave now. Sorry for keeping your table filled all night.” He said, standing up and pulling out his wallet to pay for his drink.
“Wait uh…” You said, putting up a hand. The man looked at you, eyebrows up. “You know, you can stay if you want.”
“Huh?” He asked, blinking a bit. “Oh, no I couldn’t. I’ve taken enough of your time tonight-”
“Oh just come sit at the counter. You can hang out with me and Mingyu.” You said, waving a hand for him to follow you. “I must warn you, I’m the exciting one.” You whispered, winking before walking towards the counter. The man stood there for a second before hesitantly putting his wallet away and following you.
“So, this is Mingyu.” You said, pointing at Mingyu, watching as he looked up at the new guest at the counter before looking at you. “And as I said earlier I am Y/N.” You said, pointing to yourself.
“Jihoon.” He said, holding up a hand.
“Nice to meet you Jihoon.” You grinned, placing a menu in front of him. “So what sounds good?”
“Uh…” Jihoon glanced at the menu, eyeing different things. “A burger sounds okay.”
“Then a burger it is!” You said, heading in back to place the order.
“Sorry about your date.” Mingyu said, Jihoon looking at him. “Y/N mentioned you were waiting for one.”
“Ah… It’s okay.” He said. “It’s uh… Not too bad of an evening I guess.” Mingyu nodded. He glanced over to the clock, eyes widening a bit.
“Oh shit. I have to go…” He looked around the restaurant, not seeing too many guests. “Look, can you tell Y/N I had to run? If it gets swamped in here tell them to call Cheol, he lives down the street. If you offer him free dessert he’ll come help. Thanks.” Mingyu said, getting up and swinging a bag over his shoulder before Jihoon could respond. You came back out as the door shut behind Mingyu.
“...Where did Mingyu go?”
“He uh…” Jihoon looked back at the door. “He said he had to go.” You looked at the clock.
“Ah that’s right.” You looked back at Jihoon. “He has an exam in the morning.”
“Ah.” Jihoon responded.
“So you see that couple over there?” You nodded your head to the right, Jihoon turning to face a young pair in a booth, awkwardly sitting together. Jihoon nodded, turning to you to see a smile on your face. “They’re like, 15, but this is the third time they’ve been in here to do homework. They have this awkward crush energy and it's kind of been my activity during work to see when they make it official. I think tonight might be the night.” You explained, Jihoon nodding along. He half listened, instead finding himself being a little flattered by your smile.
“Oh shoot, I’ll be right back.” You said, tapping your hand on his before going to help a customer at another table. Jihoon just stared where you tapped his hand, blinking a bit.
Okay, maybe this wouldn’t be a terrible night after all.

Washi Tape (Jeon Wonwoo)
HELLO! So I know I went on a... mild hiatus again but this month has been a rough one for me and I kind of just... forgot about these and writing for a while. So I’m sorry about that. ANYWAY. We are now onto the next request! I hope you all like it! 💛
Requested by anon
(A/N: This story is in the same universe as this Jun post)
36 -  “How did you get in here?”
Tumblr media
“Y/N.” Wonwoo sighed, blinking at you slowly. “Just pick one.”
“But I can’t!!” You said, picking up another roll of tape. “They’re all so pretty! I can’t pick just one!” You pouted, looking between the two rolls you had in your hands, then glancing to the other rolls along the wall.
“Then get more than one! They have a sale, if you buy 3 you get a fourth one.” He pointed to the sign, you turning your pout to him. Man, he hated when you did that.
“You know I don’t have enough money to do that AND to buy lunch AND to get my brother’s birthday gift.” You said, looking back at the tape.
“Then I’ll buy you lunch!” He said, you immediately shaking your head.
“No, you have bought lunch for me the last 2 weekends. I am paying for my own food this time.” You said, looking between the two in your hand again. One had pandas on it and the other was a water color space one. You couldn’t pick.
“Then I’ll buy you the tapes. We’ve been in this store for a half hour, I will buy the tapes if it gets us out of here.” He chuckled, giving you a smile.
“I can’t have you do that.” Wonwoo just rolled his eyes, taking the tapes out of your hand. “Wonwoo!”
“Either pick two more tapes or get out.” He said, raising an eyebrow at you.
“Get out?” You looked at him, trying to grab the tapes again. Unfortunately, Wonwoo’s reach was just outside of yours.
“Okay, go wait in the hall. I’m picking the other two. Go on, get out.”
“But Wonwoo-”
“Get out or I’m getting those highlighters you want too.” You widened your eyes, knowing how much those cost.
“Fine, but you better pick good ones.” You pointed at him, Wonwoo chuckling.
“I’ll pick out special ones, go wait in the hall.” He said, pushing you towards the door. You stuck your tongue out at him, which he returned. You quickly turned around before you cheeks heated up too much from Wonwoo’s smile.
You found a bench outside the store, sitting on it and tapping your foot. You stared at the door, waiting for him to come out. What was taking him so long? You just figured he’d pick two other random ones and then come right out. You knew he was probably only in there for a couple minutes, but waiting for him felt like forever. You even realized you had been staring at the door when you jumped as your phone buzzed, pulling it out. You have expected it to be him, but you sighed as it was Jun.
“What’s up?” You asked, answering the phone.
“3 questions, each dependent on the last.”
“Okay, what’s number one?”
“You still at the mall with Wonwoo?” He asked, you hearing commotion on the other side.
“Yeah?”
“Have you told him you loved him yet?” He asked, you could picture the grin on his face.
“I’m going to hang up.”
“No no!” Jun whined, you rolling your eyes. “Come on, you two drive everyone nuts. Just tell the idiot you’re in love with him so we can at least publicly be disgusted by you two.”
“I’m seriously going to hang up on you now.”
“Can I ask the last question?” You thought about it for a second, sighing.
“Sure, what is it?”
“Can you pick me up some cat toys?”
“...Why do you need-”
“NO REASON I JUST NEED CAT TOYS.”
“Jun did you get a cat?”
“...No.”
“But you need-”
“Look, I’ll pay you back when you drop them off, bring Wonwoo and tell him you love him. Bye.” Jun said, hanging up the phone but not quite before you heard a crash and Jun yelling something. You put your phone down, blinking at it, mildly amused as you saw the message come in that Jun had sent you money.
You looked up only to jump again as Wonwoo held a bag in front of your face.
“You ready?” He asked as you stood up, still holding the bag out to you.
“I guess so. What did you pick out?” You asked, starting to take the bag but Wonwoo pulling it away.
“You can’t look until you get home.”
“What? Why not?”
“Because it’s a surprise!”
“But-”
“You can’t look until you get home.” He repeated, you sighing as you held out your hand.
“Fine, I won’t look until I get home.” You said, Wonwoo nodding and placing the bag in your hand. “You really didn’t have to do that.”
“I think I did. We would still be in there.” He grinned, you grinning back. “Now come on! I’m hungry and we have to get your brother’s gift. Then we can go home and watch movies!” He said, grabbing your wrist and pulling you down the hall.
“Oh! We have to stop at Jun’s first.”
“Why?” Wonwoo looked at you as you caught up to his pace.
“To drop off cat toys.”
“...What cat toys?”
“Oh yeah, we have to buy cat toys.”
“Did Jun get a cat?” He asked, and you had to admit the mild excitement he had about the potential of Jun having a cat was actually adorable.
“Well, he said no, so definitely yeah.” You laughed, Wonwoo nodding.
“Okay, so food, birthday gift, cat toys, Jun’s to see the cat he definitely doesn’t have, then back to your place to watch movies.” He listed, you nodding.
“Sounds like a plan.” You smiled, your heart thumping at how much today sounded like a day people in a domestic relationship had. Of course, you weren’t in a domestic relationship and he was just helping you out, but still.
Once you got to the food court, you spent a few minutes debating where to get food from. You both eventually decided on a place, and saw that the line was rather long. Wonwoo also pointed out that the food court looked very busy, so he went to go get the food (you gave him some cash for yours, of course) and you went to find a table. You lucked out and managed to get one that some people had just left, so you texted Wonwoo around where you were and sat down, waiting for him to come back.
You found yourself staring at the bag from the stationary store. Why didn’t Wonwoo want you to look at the tapes until you got home? Maybe you could take a peek… See which ones he picked for you?
No, you were going to be strong. You were going to wait. Wonwoo would be back in a bit anyway.
Then your eyes landed on Wonwoo in line, he did still have a lot of people ahead of him. He was going to be there for a while. You looked back at the bag, then glanced back at Wonwoo. You let out a huff and crossed your arms, which lasted about 4 seconds before you reached out and grabbed the bag. You opened it up, tilting your head.
You saw the two washi tapes you were debating in the shop, the pandas and the little galaxies sparkling up at you. Then you saw the other two, one with little sunflowers on it, and the other with little varying hearts on it. Your heart picked up a bit at what that meant, but you quickly shook your head. Wonwoo probably just thought that it was pretty and you would like it. You nodded, closing the bag and putting the bag back on the table.
You sat there for a second before you processed that you saw something else in the bag. You looked back at Wonwoo before grabbing the bag again, confirming that he wasn’t coming back yet. You opened the bag and looked in again, pulling out a small notepad.
“Hello, how did you get in here?” You smiled at the notepad, seeing the pastel colors and the little cute bunny on the bottom corner. It made you giggle a little bit as you flipped through it. You were again about to put it back when your brain processed something else. You flipped through the pad again until you got to the third page, seeing writing on it.
‘Hey. I like you. Do you want to go out with me next Friday? Wonwoo. PS, Yes, I had to buy the pad to do this. They would let me use a pen but not a piece of paper.’
You felt your face heat up, glancing at Wonwoo again, who was looking at something at his phone, but now a couple people closer. You put the notepad back and put the bag back on the table, crossing your arms and trying to keep the smile off your face. You weren’t sure how long you sat like that, but you jumped as a tray of food was placed in front of you.
“Hey.” Wonwoo said, sitting now next to you, giving you a mildly amused expression. You looked at him, giving him a small smile.
“Hi.” You grinned, Wonwoo still looking at you confused, but humored.
“You okay?” He asked, chuckling a little bit. You nodded, starting to pick at your food.
“Yep. I’m great.”
