I do actually wonder if I could apply any of this kind of thought process to Space Level N.
I would kind of like to put some process into Space Level N at that.

Star Trek: Halibut… from a Submariner’s Imagination
I find this f*n brilliant.
I totally want to watch a Star Trek: Halibut miniseries now.

Why Are Starfleet’s Ships So…. Human?
Interesting. I think I like BOTH theories.
I don’t feel like the original Matt Jefferies design was particularly logical as a distinctly human design until Matt Jefferies designed the original Enterprise. NOW, it is a likely design choice but that’s because of the influence of Star Trek more than the other way around. So the missing link makes sense if you ignore the reality of reaction to popular fiction.
But I also feel like the idea of jamming last generation’s tech into a proxy warship is very in keeping with history, so even with the missing link theory, I would absolutely believe that as a reason for homogenization. Especially if the Humans are following the WW2 strategy of pumping out “good enough” ships at a speed and quantity that it simply dominates and it is cheaper than all the other alternatives.
So, yeah, interesting.

I had a dream the other week about these people fighting back against an assault from another world. Most of them weren’t experienced fighters, but average people who banded together (although Gimli was there because dreams).
This particular woman’s job was to throw a javelin through a dimensional portal, tethering the two worlds together and allowing the defenders to control where the fight happened. They later built a statue of her. In her day-to-day life, I think she owned a fabric shop.
Prints available through Inprnt!
[Image Description: A digital illustration of a woman preparing to throw a javelin through a portal. She is a fat, dark-skinned South Asian woman with long dark hair in a braid. She wears a navy blue crop top and dark reddish dhoti. We see her from behind, her left arm extended towards the portal while her right arm is reared back, holding a glowing white javelin which trails a tether on the ground behind her. The sky is mostly overcast with dark blue-grey clouds, but an intense sunset orange breaks through closer to the horizon. Through the glowing portal, the blue curve of another planet is visible. /end ID]

I love the episodes of Star Trek where all the humans get Space Plague or Spacetime Sickness and it’s up to the android/hologram/alien-crew-mates to save everyone because it demonstrates just how instrumental diversity is on a spaceship where who knows what could happen. If I was in charge of the ship roster there would be such a diverse crew that most incidents wouldn’t cause major havoc. All the humans on the ship are dying? Congrats, 80% of the crew are on the job trying to cure you. Need to send everyone to sleep while traveling through a toxic nebula? No worries! You have several crew members to assist you in ship functions and crew medical assistance. It’s objectively strange that star fleet should be 90% human and the only thing I can think to justify it is how many hours the makeup artists need to do their job well.

Spock’s sciences tricorder from The Star Fleet Technical Manual (Franz Joseph Schnaubelt 1975).  I still don’t get how he’d get readings from it without ever actually looking at the screen.

USEFUL SITES FOR ROLEPLAYERS
Thought I'd make a list of some useful websites for those of us who enjoy roleplaying and what have you here on Tumblr and whatnot.
roleplay formatter: Made by the awesome @rpclefairy. I honestly can't recommend this one enough. Great for adding color, changing the font size, and the whole shebang with bold + italics + underline + strikethrough. 10/10 always use
fsymbols + emojipedia: These are both great for making your tags fancy and whatnot.
alt codes: This is genuinely great for teaching you how to make the symbols with your keyboard for everyday use so there's that. It's especially useful if you and/or your muses speak a second language so that's a bonus.
text color fader: *marge vc* I just think gradient effects on text is neat. *end marge vc*
list of colors (wikipedia): Has a list of an infinite number of colors and their hex codes. Very useful if I do say so, myself. But that's just me.
screencapped.net: Great for getting all sorts of screenshots for making icons, GFXs, promos, and whatnot.
fancaps.net: Also great for getting all sort of screencaps for making icons, GFXs, promos, and whatnot. My only complaint is that it's a little annoying to navigate so here's the proper links to movies, tv shows, and anime.
photopea: Great if you can't afford Photoshop and/or don't like using GIMP.
hakuneko: It's not so much a website as much as it is a program. You can download manga, comics, webtoons, doujinshi, etc. for making your icons, GFXs, promos, and whatnot. It's also just a great way to read stuff and catch up on everything.
Feel free to reblog and add more. <333

What Do I Call That Ship, Anyway? - A Guide To Ship Classification
Ever wondered the difference between a battlecruiser and a battleship, or debated whether your vessel is a light, medium, or heavy freighter? The Star Wars universe is absolutely full of all sorts of wonderful starships, but there are so many terms and classifications for them that it can get awfully confusing sometimes! This post is intended as a non-exhaustive guide to describing some common ships’ various classifications in your writing, both military and civilian.
The rest is under the cut. Sorry for the long post, mobile users!

Last Night's / Today's waste of time that I am now bored with.
Getting a little bit closer to what I want with Space-N's uniforms
Still not enough pockets XD.
And no rank tiles but those would all be different anyway.
It does not give me any better idea how to get a uniform on my chief engineer though.

I wish more people used Magic the Gathering's Color Pie instead of D&D's alignment all of the time.
Like, saying a character embodies the selfishness and impulsivenes of Red Black offers more depth than Chaotic Evil

>:) It occurs to me that I can reference all of these, since I'm intending to have multiple collectives in N Space anyway >:)
I love seeing alternate takes on stuff.
I love looking at the concept art for star trek especially for the movies.
There's a few different for the borg queen such as:
Tumblr media
Ball
Tumblr media
Spike
Tumblr media
Glados
Tumblr media
Like looking at the art indicates to me that the borg queens were initially more like the original borg species, in regards to the utilisation of language and a spiritual/cultural element of using crystal and bone, less synthetic materials.
Oh and also
Tumblr media
The monolith.

Lightsaber Lore is an Overcomplicated MESS!
I generally like and more or less agree with this.
I definitely will want something closer to this thought process for Space N than what is in Star Wars.
I particularly like his throw-away alternative idea of form as mindset in the fight because that can let me play up my joke about Vulcans making the best Jedi. And it reflects some of my favorite bits about the supposed goal of a lightsaber user - like Dooku telling Greivous that he should focus on inflicting fear, pain, and humiliation to destroy his opponent’s emotional control.

Mmmm :/ not sure whether that is working for me.
The issue is I'm not sure anything I am capable of will work for me.
The Doien are just hard to get into a clothed and mobile Starfleet shape.
It may have to do if I don't want to get stuck.

I definitely don't want Federation Warp tech to be the only kind. But I also want it to be the essentially reasonable kind for the average tech level that I want the Galactic Powers to be at.
Yes, you can absolutely do something different, there are even different methods that are absolutely better in some ways, it's simply that they come with costs as well. So the singularity core warp drive is what most of the ships that the Polity will have any reasonable intership drama with should be equipped with.
When it's not that style, the drama probably shouldn't be intership for the most part because one ship will so out perform the other in a meaningful way.
But that's not the only thing going on.
The Polity is definitely average for any kind of long range ship. But, for the most part, that's not how people move and travel. I think of most people shuttling around in much cheaper craft along set paths.
Essentially, the Polity is an amphibious Naval Carrier that can go ANYWHERE under its own power. But most people, who aren't in the navy, travel by some kind of Metropolitan Transit Authority vehicle that moves along scheduled and organized routes between population centers. Both can benefit from exceptions to their travel methods provided by special hubs that can do other work.
You do what makes sense for what you need to do it for.
