Something I find hilarious about Hamilton is that The Election of 1800 transitions straight into Obedient Servant and then The World Was Wide Enough, giving the impression that these events took place pretty rapidly, when in reality Hamilton and Burr’s duel didn’t happen until 1804. So the musical makes it seem like Burr snapped immediately after losing the election because of Hamilton when in reality this bitch sat on that and argued back and forth with Hamilton about it for four years before finally challenging him to a duel. Slow to anger, indeed

not gonna lie i do find it irritating and distasteful when people add onto discussions of hamilton with like “depictions of slaveowners aside it’s just a cringey bad musical anyway 🤪” like hm. maybe it’s just me but i don’t think black people trying to lead an important and nuanced and very necessary discussion about what is probably the most popular and critically acclaimed musical this century is really the best time for you to slide in tooting your clown horn and jerking yourself off about how flawless and cool your taste in media is
#thank you for doing what i couldnt and putting these thoughts into an eloquent and comprehensible post op#hamilton

If you find out about miku binder jefferson through this post I offer my most sincerest and heartfelt apologies
ah it seems that people on twitter are currently ripping on hamilton because 1. it’s popular again right now and 2. people are unable to grasp the concept that you can enjoy a work of fiction while still acknowledging its inherent flaws. that being said miku binder jefferson will always make me lose my shit

Forgiveness. Can you imagine? If you see him in the street, walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity.

It’s funny to me how all of these gorgeous women are supposedly thirsting over hamilton when he looks like he was attacked by a feral raccoon before being knocked into a coma for two months

friendly reminder that u can be like “lin manuel miranda created a work of art that was meant to highlight performers of color and made broadway mainstream again and was full of amazing themes and motifs” and still be like “but hamilton is inherently problematic because it glorifies the founding fathers when they should not be treated as people to look up to” like u can and should do that

Say what you want about Hamilton but there are some RAW lines in it. The entirety of Wait For It is just!!!! Like, “Death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints. It takes and it takes and it takes, but we keep living anyway.” makes me FEEL things. Or, “If there’s a reason I’m still alive, when everyone who loves me has died, then I’m willing to wait for it.” And that one line, “I imagine death so much, it feels more like a memory.” Just ,,,, stirs my feelings you know???

I hate commenting on other peoples’ posts cause im always afraid people will be like “ha ha woo wee it’s a stupid hamilton blog ha ha” but that fear in itself raises several questions about the way we pick and choose what parts of cringe culture to preserve despite the common belief that it should be destroyed as a whole

not to be that dumb theatre ho but, to this day it still upsets me to see the same general shallow commentary on hamilton being rehashed because of the cringey parts of its fandom.
of course hamilton isnt a perfect musical, but many people seem to forget about the part where a puerto rican man decided to reapropriate an inspiring american narrative he discovered in a biography and gave it to dozens and dozens of other PoC (many of whose careers immensely profited from the unusual spotlight) in a usually predominantly white scene, and in the process created over 2 hours of absolute bangers after bangers which overall form a satisfying and emotional story, all of that topped with great acting and a genuine love for the arts.
#facts#it sucks that Im ashamed to be a hamilton blog just because a lot of the fandom is shit#it doesn't take much to educate yourself#on both sides of the situation
