Hello fellow FFIV lovers!

In just about a month, on July 19th, we will celebrate the 34th anniversary of that wonderful game. To celebrate, I would like to offer you a little help to get the creative mind running ~

This website will generate for you a Bingo sheet, customized based on selected elements and prompts. With this, you can create a grid of bits of inspiration to use for writing, drawing, anything you can think of! There are characters, places, elements specific to the game, themed prompt, writing or painting challenges...

I offered a few way to play but to celebrate this coming anniversary there's one I particularly have in mind. Creating a 6x6 grid gives you 18 pairs of prompts... Enough to cover from July 1st to the special day ! One day, two square checked, one piece of fanwork, until the grid is filled.

Of course, you don't have to use that. No matter what you make of this website, I would love to see the kind of grid you create and the fanwork that comes out of it!

To hype ourselves for the incoming anniversary, you can tag all your grids and works with #FFIVbirthday2025 !

Inktober 2017, Day 19 ~ Golbez & Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV)

I feel like the build up & reveal of Golbez’s identity & relation to Cecil is a little lacking in the original. But Kain’s friendship & rivalry with Cecil on the other hand… My heart is weak for that stuff. Shout out for the dragoon OG.

Motivated by @estinininininen's post about Holy Dragoon Kain's design being better if he had a helmet, I tried my hand at an edit. It's not perfect, but I thought it was a fun proof of concept.

ffiv - the holy dragoon armor would be marginally more acceptable if it still hid kain's eyes. dragoons are supposed to be good at pretending to be Mysterious and Brooding even after they've gone to moon dad therapy. i do not make the rules

Square Enix on bluesky just posted KAIN HIGHWIND all caps no context. What do they mean by this.

Not to be emotional about ffiv on here but I'm making loops on how this game is so often bringing up one sided love but like. Not just about romance. Not just about not reciprocating interest.

Sure Kain loves Rosa in a way she might not. Then Rosa also loves him in a way he does not. She also loves Cecil with no return until he almost lose her and finally understand his own love. And Kain also love Cecil in a way that he doesn't perceive until he loses that love. Then Cecil is left to love a Kain that hates him. By the end, Cecil and Rosa love Kain, and he loves them, and yet both side of that love remain one way because of the distance.

And then there's the care Cecil has for Rydia when she only hates him. Cecil loving the king who isn't the man who raised him anymore. Kluya loving Cecil when Cecil doesn't know him. Rubicante praising Edge who despise him. Again and again and again, characters who love with nothing to answer that love or not in the same way.

And then Golbez, who loved his little brother so painfully, who never stopped doing so, who holds nothing but love for Cecil the moment he remembers he could love at all. The whole final lies in the question: could Cecil love him too ? Even if Golbez doesn't expect him to, maybe doesn't even want him to, his love for Cecil doesn't need any return. But Cecil wants to love him. And he manage to, before that love is cut off by Golbez leaving. This time Cecil is left to love with no return.
