Ahhhhh this was really tricky to translate as this song was full of metaphors (classic Satocchan). But even though it hurt my brain so much, I pushed through as I believe this is one of their best songs - I feel like it’s a love letter of some sort to their fans/supporters for being their light, and because they received so much love and support (light) from them, they will do their best to pass on that light to others through their music.

Anyway, hope this post and this song will make you smile widely, too :)

Can't believe this blog actually reached its 4th year 🤣 there were moments (actually so many moments H A H A) I did contemplate on deleting this blog together with my Twitter account - I was getting tired of so many things, started losing interest for a time, and got more anxious and unconfident of what TF I'm doing (thinking I shouldn't be doing this kind of thing as I'm not qualified, i.e. i dont study the language consistently, don't have a proper level of knowledge of the language, etc.). Well the twt account's gone, but this blog still remained. Idk why I didn't actually delete this but well, maybe it's still serving its purpose (maybe... hopefully... 🤣)

In today's episode of "I have so many work-related things to do but I chose to do another task that's outside of work" aka Rain's Procrastination Diaries (lmao) (can also be known as "Rain's excuse to not open her textbooks and study for the upcoming JLPT"), I decided to translate this song.

Idk if it's just me (yes Rain it's definitely just you) but this feels... morbid af. While I was translating this, I got the feeling that the speaker was just waiting for *his time*, the end of his life (as referenced by "the last page", and also the last line of the song, "Tonight, (if) I can close my eyes."

But well, I also realized that it doesn't have to be that morbid. It could be a song for a point in time before someone moves forward, like closing another chapter of one's life. But idk I still go back to my first feeling HAHA. If you wanna share your thoughts about the song please do!!

God this album really is such a trip. Ah, this song's so beautiful. This isn't officially released yet as a Higedan song, but I guess it actually is officially released already as this song is going to be used in a choral competition for middle school students. As a choral music lover, I loved the choir arrangement so much, thus this translation. Really looking forward to the Higedan version of this song.

As usual, this I do not guarantee that this translation is 100% correct as I'm still learning Japanese, so there may be errors/corrections/mistranslations in this (in reality, I'm really just doing the translations for myself, so that I can practice my Japanese reading skills and can understand their songs hehe. I feel like there are a lot of ways to interpret this line. My understanding of this line is that no matter what happens, may it be good (weather) or bad (weather), it will still sprout in time, pertaining to how the plant survives harsh conditions. I feel like the white or black part pertains to the plant being under the sun (where it will sprout/bloom best) and under the shade (where it won't sprout, but will still be alive).

****Iki wo suru literally translates to "to breathe". But i feel like it was kinda awkward to put it just like that. So i put "to live", because when you breathe, you're alive, therefore you live.

*OK this is a little confusing HAHA but I hope this will help in understanding the line. So the previous line was talking in extremes (so much positivity it's almost like it burns; the coldness & harshness) which can cause discomfort in the long run, thus this line kinda says that the speaker wants to give something in between - the literal translation of hinyari atsui mono is a cooler hot object = warm, which is more comfortable for someone.

**the literal translation for "hikarete shimatta kaaten" is "a curtain completely pulled back". This phrase didn't make much sense to me so I tried looking if there is an idiom that would probably explain this, and there actually is! So we can actually interpret this two ways - pulling a curtain open - so you show what's on the other side of the curtain, or you pull a curtain close - like you're hiding the things on the other side. But following the previous line, I felt like it was trying to convey that the speaker and the one being spoken to were trying to bridge the gap between them by being honest to each other, therefore pulling the curtains open so they both see what the other party really feels.

I think it's been almost a year since my last translation (Filament was, I think, the last song I translated, and that's almost a year ago!), so I'm a little rusty. Forgive me and please tell me if I get the translations in this wrong huhu I really need to go back to translating :)) :((

Anyway, yeah Higedan released their new EP today!! And it includes two new songs - Choral A and Hagan! Not sure if I will be translating Hagan (I'm planning to, tho! But no promises H A H A).

Idk I just got the urge to translate Choral A today. I love the song so much it sounds like the old Higedan songs (which pulled me into the fandom!) And I have no regrets translating this because I feel like the lyrics for this song were words I needed to hear at this point in my life.

Oh and yeah, the song is gonna be used as a theme song for a movie! The lyrics of the song, as well as the composition for this, was all made by Narachan! This reflects the experiences he had as a past member of the police force marching band in their place - which is basically the plot of the movie where the song will be used :)) wbk this is Narachan's life story HAHA jk

Your heart's dried up.

***I feel like what this is trying to say is that when the topic of him capturing the other person in an old camera comes up/when they do open up/revisit the images on the old camera, and the other person knows about what the speaker did, he would try to change the topic by pointing out how small the other person's shoes/feet are to maybe hide his feelings or just to tease the other person.

シアワセ / Shiawase / Happiness - Super Beaver

Yeah, yeah, I know this isn't Higedan related. But I've been getting into Super Beaver lately, and this song has been one of my most recent addictions. I didn't want to create a separate account just for Super Beaver (because I'm not even sure I would be able to mainain it or do more translations for their songs - I can't even maintain the numerous accounts I now have!) scratch that, I actually did create a new account for it - @superbeaverstan, and I think I haven't seen this song translated, so I just had to do this. Gomen na to the people who have followed this account for Higedan posts. Of course this will still be mostly Higedan stuff but I might post non-Higedan stuff here from time to time. :))

ANYWAY, yeah I just mentioned that this is currently one of my obsessions right now. Like everytime this song plays, I would just loop it. I get so emoi whenever I hear this song. Even more so when I heard a live version of this song from their Budokan concert. I was literally crying loads watching that concert because of this song. Out of all the live versions of Shiawase I've heard so far, the Budokan one's my all time favorite. I swear there's really something about Budokan concerts that's so powerful and makes everything extra emotional.

This song was originally published and released in 2009. In the earlier versions, the word they used for "you" was "kimi". But when they rereleased this song in a later album, they changed all the "kimi" to "anata". IDK, anata might be more wordy than kimi but I love the "anata" version more than the "kimi". People say using "anata" to pertain to "you" is too direct, more serious. But isn't "anata" also used as a term of endearment between husband and wife or between significant others? Which kinda gives off the vibe that they're equals - no one is above and no one is below the other? I'd like to think this is why they changed the lyrics to anata, as well as why they keep on using the word "anata" on most of their lyrics. Also I think using "anata" adds so much more meaning to what the song is trying to tell.

Also, with the later version, they had added some strings into the performance. They also actually did this arrangement (the one with strings) during the Budokan con so that really added to the emoi-ness of the song.

Aaaaa I'm sorry for blabbing so much. I just really reaaaally love this song to bits.

As usual, there might be inconsistencies/mistakes/errors in this translation especially since I'm still studying Japanese.

The album is a literal masterpiece. I actually have a lot of feels about it but I need to gather them and make those thoughts cohesive first. Maybe I'll post them here or on Twitter, maybe I wont. :)) Let's see. :kekw:

SO ANYWAY, this is one of Higedan's new songs, Filament. This song was actually composed and written by Chanmatsu and Satocchan - yes, they collaborated! I'm just really so happy for and so proud of Chanmatsu (and Satocchan) for producing this song because this is definitely my top pick among all the new songs in the album.

IDK about you but this song brought me warm and fuzzy feels, it's uplifting, it's easy on the ears... in short I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH I JUST HAD TO TRANSLATE THE LYRICS BECAUSE I WANT TO FULLY UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS. AND OH BOY DOING THIS JUST MADE ME LOVE THE SONG MORE. :(( I know this song isn't that appealing to most people (maybe because of its simplicity - but actually it was that point that made me fall in love with it hehe)

As per usual, this translation might contain errors, mistakes, and inconsistencies, especially since I'm not fluent in Japanese and I'm still studying.
