Rising to his feet when his old friend entered, Edward bowed and smiled gently. "Miss Thorne. It's a pleasure to see you again. Ella sends her regards. I was in the area on business, and dropped by to see how you all were doing."
@starsallalight liked for a starter (for Edward)
When her parents had called her into the parlor Felicity hadn't expected to see a familiar face sitting across of her mother drinking tea.
"Mr. Ledoux, how lovely to see you." The brunette said kindly, at one time she was good friends with Edward Ledoux's sister Ella, but when the sibling's father had died, Felicity had lost touch with both of them.

Hearing the voice call out to him, James couldn't help but stop. With a grin and a chuckle, he bowed.
"Miss Thorne. Your secret's safe with me. Just coming to fetch your father. Mr. Parker wishes to see him so he can show off the progress on the terrace."
@starsallalight liked for a starter (for James Stringer)
"Mr. Stringer, it seems you've found my secret hiding spot." Her father had taken an interest in the young architect. Was even talking about investing in Stringer's last project before becoming an architect, a little seaside resort called Sanditon.
Her mother would scold her for sneaking off to the gardens, but that was nothing new.
"Can I count on you not to give me away?"

Glancing up from the collection of poetry, Emmy but the inside of her cheek. She did want to go and explore, of course she did! It was dreadfully dull being inside all day, but there was really only so far she could go without needing the chair. And that too could only go so many places.
"Mummy and Hortense won't be pleased. You promise we won't go that far? And go slow? That way we won't need to bring my chair?"
@starsallalight liked for a starter (for Emmeline)
"We traveled all this way, and all you want to do is sit in the house and read!" Felicity whined at her cousin, Felicity loved a good novel too, especially the new one by that Austen woman, but they had traveled all the way to Sanditon, and the sea was just a short walk away, so she would be forgiven for wanting to explore the charming sea side town.
"Come walk with me, Emmy."

Emmy's nurse is a woman about 15 years older than her and Felicity, named Hortense. Hortense had previously intended to be an Anglican nun, but gave the position up when Eleanore came looking for someone to look after and help Emmy.
The Thornes do pay and house her, so Hortense often sends money to her family or to the convent where she once lived.
Hortense is kind, but does have a strict streak. She is fond of Emmy and Felicity both, and had been with them since they were children. At that time, she not only agreed as a servant and nurse to Emmy, but also acted as a sort of governess; helping Eleanore to see to Emmy and Felicity's education.

For several years after being taken in by her aunt and uncle, Emmy felt like she could remember things about her parents. It was unlikely given how young she was when they died, but she believed she could. Those "memories", however, faded with time and by her teens, she could barely remember much other than she had her mother's red hair and her father's blue eyes.

Because of her weakened heart, Emmy often uses Bath Chairs to get around during period verses, and an electric wheelchair in modern ones. The Bath chair has cushions and blankets to try and make it more comfortable to be in long term.
Eleanore hired a nurse to help Emmy, and depending on who was with her when she was using the chair, either the nurse, Eleanore, or Felicity would push her while Emmy steered.
Emmy generally tries not to use the chair, regardless of verse, unless she has to. She doesn't want to be a burden to her family, but moreso she enjoys the freedom of walking herself.

"I never thought the sea could be so pleasant." Emmy sighed with a pensive little pout. "I only wish I could go and swim. It seems like it would be lovely. If you go, you simply must tell me everything!"

The heart murmur that Emmy was born with was caused by a cardiac shunt. The condition wasn't all that severe until she developed strep throat when she was 3.
From the strep, her condition worsened into a rheumatic fever. This worsened her heart problems, and ended with life-long complications to both her heart and immune system.

On the day they died, Benedict and Grace were coming back from checking in on a friend whose wife had recently died in childbirth.
Their carriage was hit by another carriage, the driver of which was drunk. All 3 were thrown. Grace died on the scene, and Benedict and the other driver died later while receiving care at a hospital.
In modern verses, the accident is caused by a drunk driver speeding through a red light and hitting them as they attempted to make a turn.
