Percy doesn't write often, but when he does, it's arguably a lot nicer than Annabeth's writing. Which, in simple terms, she is not happy about.

Something about her competitive need to be the best, mixed with some hubris and pride. Annabeth writes more, but Percy writes better, and that's just not fair.

Annabeth Chase has atrocious writing.

When she has so many ideas, so many thoughts drumming up a tornado in her mind, there's no time for pretty lettering. She needs to get it on the page and move on.

Annabeth writes in shorthand, which could be ciphers to anyone else. A code only Annabeth can understand. And that's the point, isn't it? These notes aren't for anyone else — as long as she can read them, that's all she needs.

Birthday cards and love letters and school assignments beg for a different kind of patience — a patience Annabeth doesn't have. It means carving out extra space for each word in slow, looping calligraphy that still isn't the prettiest, but at least it's legible. Annabeth's train of thought moves too fast; by the time her brain is on the next paragraph, her hand has written all the wrong words, a jumble of her thoughts, and she has to start all over again.

It's no wonder Percy gets shorter cards, Happy Birthday, Percy!, because all of her attention has to go to her assignments. Annabeth is brilliant, and she knows it, but that doesn't mean her professors can give her good marks if they have no idea what her report is about.

Percy Jackson writes with careful consideration for the page.

His letters are big, and sometimes out of order, but almost always neat enough to make out what they say. He needs to take the care to write it — a byproduct of teachers yelling and other kids mocking him. Dyslexia was hard enough without the chicken scratch, though it does mean taking three times as long to get the words down, and he almost always starts out strong and ends in something a lot messier.

He puts in enough effort at school to scrape by, but Percy cares a lot more about writing when it comes to the people he loves. Cards to his mom from boarding schools take days to complete short messages, hours spent staring at the letters and praying that the words he sees are actually spelt correctly.

It's small, but if Sally Jackson can open mail from Percy that looks good, that looks right, then Percy imagines she can rest a little easier that night. That she can think he's doing really well at school, until the grades come in.

That she can be proud of him.

different types of fronting (explained for singlets)

ref.: going from an alter to the other is called “switching”. if mark ¹ is fronting, and then, suddenly, jack ¹ is fronting, the brain switched.

• normal fronting. an alter is active, conscious, and controls the body.

• co fronting. two or more alters are active, conscious, and control the body.

• coconscious or co-con. one or multiple parts are conscious, but don't control the body. usually in combination with one or multiple parts fronting.

• being frontstuck. an alter being “stuck” in front for a long time. the time varies/depends on the system.

• rapid switching. as the name says, this is when fronts switch very rapidly.

some alters hold trauma/memories that they didn’t exist to experience / didn’t front during.

some alters have amnesia for moments they were there for.

like that’s really common. you have a dissociative disorder. you aren’t faking if you remember something you didn’t front for and you aren’t faking if you forgot something that you yourself literally did. our brains are trying to protect us. sometimes it does a good job with the amnesia thing and often times it doesn’t. there’s no real way to make amnesia convenient. like a lot of systems only get amnesia from switches, but a lot of us forget the day prior even if no switch occurred.

and although this post is about amnesiac systems, you’re valid if you don’t have amnesia either, or not very much. everyone is different. every system is different.

Steven is built for physical affection.

If Layla is near, Steven is holding her hand. If they're sitting beside each other, Steven is leaning into her. And when they hug? Well, hugging might be one of Steven's favourite things.

Steven hugs like Layla's the first person he's seen in a long time; like he's worried if he doesn't hold on tight enough, she'll disappear. He's in for the long haul, smelling like pine and sweat, and he'll hold onto her until she pulls away.

Layla learned this pretty early on, once Steven had gotten over his nerves. Evenings in the flat, cuddling on the couch, there is a mutual feeling of safety between them when they hold onto each other. A hug Steven doesn't have to let go of, that he can fall asleep into while Layla plays with his hair. Steven cuddles like he's scared of losing her, but that he knows she'll be there when he opens his eyes.

Marc cuddles like he's running out of time.

He isn't the biggest on physical affection in public, but he isn't shy about it either. The hand holding is occasional, and he initiates it only if he fears danger may be near. He never pulls his hand away if Layla is the first to reach for it. His head is always on a swivel, waiting for that next bad thing to hit.

But at home, when there's almost no reason to look over his shoulder, no threats, no bird, just Layla, his shoulders soften. It's protective; Layla against his chest, strong arms holding her close, but staying gentle — always gentle. Marc smells like sandalwood and Layla smells like home.

He never fully relaxes into it, he can't, and he refuses to fall asleep before Layla does. But it's calm, and it's quiet, and one day it all might fall apart, but that's not today.

Jake is a liar.

He's not worried about hiding a flirtatious side, in public or private. He'll kiss Layla's hand to say hello, and wink whenever Layla looks over to him. He is loud about his affection, he smells like coffee and cream, and though he is eager for some things, he will never ask to be held.

It happens on accident the first time, when Jake fronts after Steven, leaning against Layla in a way where he can hear her heart beat. He holds her tighter, just in case she thinks about pulling away, and he lets himself feel secure in the idea of not being a flirtatious macho man. But if Layla asks if Jake is comfortable, he'll say no — that he'd much rather be the bigger spoon, but there's no point in moving because Steven will probably be back soon.

Jake listens to the beat of Layla's heart and lets it confirm for him that he is alive, that he does not have to act out of impulse, that he is stable. And, at least when Layla holds him, the rest of the world doesn't have to weigh so heavy on his shoulders.

I'm watching Moon Knight (again) to help me go to sleep and I've rewatched episode 1 so so many times on nights like tonight but I still absolutely adore all the little details.

Like, okay so when Steven wakes up in the Alps (I think that's where it is), Khonshu says "go to sleep, worm" and okay, first watch and without knowing the context of Jake existing, that makes sense. Khonshu doesn't like Steven which we learn more and more as the series goes on but then he says a few lines later "the idiot's in control" in that same scene in the Alps.

There is such a clear shift in attitude between 'go to sleep, worm' and 'The idiot's in control' and it's so obvious on a rewatch that Khonshu is talking to two different people with each line.

He's referring to Jake as 'worm' and he thinks that telling him to simply 'go back to sleep' would work because Jake is aware of the alters and their situation. Although from the brief glimpses we get of Jake, we know that he is an... interesting guy yet we can gather that he at least has some sort of alliance/respect/something going on with Khonshu. However, when he realises it's Steven, it's not hostility in the same way. It's more exasperated frustration. He's mad at Marc for letting Steven suddenly appear rather than being annoyed at Jake for making a random appearance. The way that the dialogue is written just exposes so much on a rewatch.

But going back to Jake/Khonshu even if they do have some respect, it's also pretty obvious that Khonshu does not want Jake around. I'd speculate that that's probably because if Marc loses time when he knows that he's not in London as Steven, that would create suspicion. Suspicion that Khonshu wouldn't want because that would put their avatar/God relationship at risk.

Though, I also suspect that Khonshu and Jake probably were working together but Marc never became aware because Jake worked at nights (maybe why Steven is so goddamn tired) or simply took over while Marc thought that Steven was in control.

I know that the Moon Knight portrayal is not the most accurate DiD portrayal but from my research, there's this whole idea of like different levels of awareness. Like the blackouts for Steven are because he initially has no awareness of the other alters. Then when Steven and Marc black-out, it's because neither of them are aware that there is a third alter aka Jake. Which means that Jake can do things for Khonshu while Marc believes that he is in London and neither Marc nor Steven would be aware.

I'm kind of just rambling about the show at this point but also, what I find really interesting every time I rewatch is the date thing. So, right, if Marc was the one that set-up the date why would he let Steven stand her up without saying anything to her? Marc isn't exactly the best guy when it comes to romance but he is incredibly protective over Steven because he wants to protect him from Khonshu. So, why in the world would he let the whole date rejection thing happen?

Because it wasn't Marc. It was Jake. Jake asked out Steven's colleague and that also makes sense why they went to a steak place. Jake doesn't give a f*ck about Steven's veganism while Marc absolutely would. Marc wants to protect Steven so he wouldn't make such a silly mistake.

But Jake would. Honestly, at this point, convinced that Jake just wanted to fuck with the Moonboys and Khonshu just played along.

I don't know.

I always find the dynamics of the Moonboys so interesting and I love how even when you rewatch it, there are new little discoveries that you can make. Like there was so much love, thought and attention put into this show?? It makes me SO SO happy.

This show honestly means the world to me and excuse the ramble/rant but I just love talking about my Moonboys and I never really get to speculate or discuss the show. I talk about it with my dad but being at uni means that I do not get to ramble at him as often. So, tumblr gets it instead.

But yeah, they're my (not very) astute observations about my beloved Moon Knight
