We were waiting for a parade to start and I was on my phone. I went to throw my food in the trash, with the trash in one hand, and my phone and water bottle in the other. The phone slipped out of my hand and fell. into. the sewer grate. that I was standing on. I cried and was traumatized. people still make fun of me for it. especially as one of the flipping drum majors😭😭 (I got my phone back dw)

A kid who was right there when it happened lifted the lid off of the grate and reached down in there and got it. The parents ended up having to clean off his jacket😭

there are two types of dci fans that make me seriously so mad

1: the ones who act like its a bad thing to march open class or all-age or not want to go world / top 12 2: the ones who are, somehow, homophobic / transphobic / xenophobic

you are literally in dci. one of the most accepting and welcoming sports ive ever seen [marching band as a whole tbh]. ive heard of countless people getting literally banned from dci every year for being transphobic and xenophobic and homophobic. what is wrong with you and how do some dci fans not understand that people are in marching band just for the love of the sport??? ive seen people mock jersey surf for getting low scores and think its weird to want to march there when their shows look so FUN.

you dont have to be in a top 5 corps to love marching band and you dont even have to want to be in top 12. your dream corps can be literally any corps even if its an all-age or open class or bottom world class. if your dream corps is genesis or cascades or jersey surf or any bottom corps? i love you

someone in the troopers legacy corps told me to watch blue devils 1976 and i did. i wasnt expecting it to be very good bc ive never watched dci from before 2008 [spartacus is the oldest show ive watched, i keep meaning to watch old dci and just. forgetting] and

dude that was phenomenal. it was very very cool seeing the differences between old and modern dci

heres what i noticed

no show titles [expected / already knew they wouldnt have one]

world class didnt exist yet, it was open class [im pretty sure at least? correct me if im wrong]

no front ensemble. people were MARCHING timpanis and playing marching glockenspiels [my school owns a marching glockenspiel ive played it <3 we only use it like once a year though]

whatever these tenors [?] are [very fabulous]

color guard in marching uniforms + shakos AND MARCHING [VERY cool]

chair-stepping [i think thats what its called? aka marching with very high knees, besides the drumline ofc]

i could just be going insane but those bass drums look larger than the ones i see nowadays? it could be the perspective or quality but. if so thats so sick

specific to this show

i honestly expected the audio quality to be a lot worse but it was actually pretty decent except for certain sections when the full corps was playing very loudly. also the drums generally didnt sound great since the mics seemed to be struggling with the sounds, esp from the snares, but thats a thing even nowadays

the legacy corps member who told the section about this show said the mellophone solo was phenomenal. it really seriously was

this show has made me want to watch more old dci so if anyone has recommendations pleeease give me some,,,,, i looove drumcorps <3
