you shiver when a cold gust of wind blows against your back. you and clarisse are sitting on a log together, around the campfire. she has one arm around you and one holding two sticks with marshmallows over the fire.

"you cold, sunshine?" she asks. she adjusts her arm over you slightly, pulling you closer to her body.

"mhm," you hum.

"hold these," she say, handing you the sticks. you grab them, watching as she pulls her jacket off, revealing her tank top. her arms flex slightly as she drapes her jacket around your shoulders. she takes the sticks from you and puts her arm around you once again.

"won't you get cold?" you ask, pressing a kiss to her bare shoulder. despite your girlfriend's jacket keeping you warm, you could still feel the chill in the summer air.

"nah," she replied, kissing your head. "i'll be fine, babe."

you smile up at her, and she smiles back. "i love you," you say, reaching up to cup her face.

she rolled her eyes. "yeah, yeah, i love you too, sunshine," she mumbled, capturing your lips with hers.

had a party for my 17th last night (birthday tomorrow) and 67 people were there. at least 60 of those were my friends. at least 40 were close friends. at least 15 who didn't even like parties they just showed up for me. 5 of my favourite people ever. my best friend.

i've had no reason at all to spend the night before my 17th birthday sobbing in the shower. i'm not alone. my best friend has messaged me four times cos he's worried i suddenly disappeared from a group call.

that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.

it was always hard for you to focus on the same thing for long periods of time, growing up, and over the years it has caused you some problems. it’s also made you incredibly effective in the field, able to keep in pace, think on your feet, and not fixate on a detail, losing the bigger picture. it has made you incredibly ineffective at staying quiet during films.

from ‘wait, what did he say?’, to ‘i know her from somewhere, let me google it’, and even, ‘that was the worst plot twist i’ve ever witnessed’. unfortunately, there is nothing that irks aaron more. he has endless patience for you, usually, but talking during a movie is a crime to him. at one point, you really think he’s about to flash his badge at you.

at another comment from you, he groans loudly.

you bite your lip, “you hate me so much right now, don’t you?”

aaron huffs, “no, honey, i don’t hate you. i love you. please stop talking though.”

you really try. but when you don’t talk, you squirm. movie night may not have been the smartest date idea with an attention span like yours. on your third time shifting and clicking your tongue, he sighs, but is unable to completely contain his amusement, “do you ever stay still?”

“i mean… when i sleep, yeah.”

he lets his head fall back against the sofa back and gives a breathy chuckle, “alright. let’s do something else.”

even though he doesn’t seem mad, you aren’t fond of giving up on his first choice for your evening. it isn’t often he makes a request for something, and you didn’t want to ruin it. you shake your head and stop him from getting up, “no, no, i’ll be quiet. i’m sorry.”

you stress that last sentence and he squeezes your shoulder reassuringly.

aaron gives you a playful glare, “i do not think you’re capable, sweetheart.”

you mime zipping your lip and curl back into his side as he resettles in his seat and presses play. true to your promise, you don’t say another word for the duration of the film. he does miss your voice slightly, but if he knows if he opens that floodgate, he’ll never watch a film in peace again. so he finally can pay attention to the plot, thoroughly enjoying it, and occasionally rubbing up and down your arm.

as the credits roll, he stretches his legs, and the arm you aren’t clinging to, asking, “can i get you anything?”

no answer. he frowns, “hey, movie’s over sweetheart.”

then he looks down to see you sound asleep against him, a state you’ve probably been in for over an hour. aaron sighs, wondering how engrossed in the film he could’ve been to not notice that. more accurately, to not realise there is no way you’d keep still and silent for that long.

not remembering when he became so soft, he kisses your forehead and mutters, “sleep well.”

working in the bau and dating aaron hotchner (while trying to keep it from the team) would include…

definitely knowing each other's coffee orders!!

and because of this, taking turns bringing coffee in for each other.

(especially when you have to come in ridiculously early for a case,)

except subtly or the team would become suspicious - and that would be the last thing the two of you wanted.

in the briefing room, there would be so many stolen glances, but to your luck, the team would be oblivious to it all.

you would usually sit separately on the jet, but always try to be in view of each other,

you don’t want anyone to catch on.

even though you're certain that rossi already knows something.

he knows everything.

anyways, when you get to the precinct, you usually stay with jj and reid, rather than go with the others.

this is because you normally help jj notify the family of the victims, as well as go through the already existing evidence to begin with the profile with reid.

this is the way it’s been for ages now, and you love the rhythm the three of you have going on.

he's hated leaving you at the precincts ever since one of the sheriffs got a bit too close for comfort.

and it’s not that he doesn’t trust you / think you can’t hold your own.

because you one hundred percent can (and he knows it)

he was the one who helped you perfect your aim after all.

it’s just that he wished he could openly be with you

all this secrecy began right after you both came to terms with your feelings

aside from the endless teasing you would get. (mainly from morgan and prentiss)

especially since she seemed to have it for hotch recently.

probably due to the fact that he ignores all over her direct orders.

and that’s another thing,

ever since you two started secretly dating, it’s been harder and harder to refrain from calling him aaron, instead of hotch.

there have been a few slip ups,

you were able to cover most of them up, but after a look from jj, she became the first one on the team to find out.

after you told her, one part of you felt relieved, but the rest just felt so guilty. you felt like you betrayed hotch's trust.

however, the guilt left very quickly after he admitted that he told rossi over a week before.

now he was the guilty one.

one thing that made your not so secret relationship harder to keep a secret was the fact that aaron hotchner was a complete simp.

he absolutely adored you and loved to watch you work.

the look on your face when your mind makes all the pieces fit together in his mind is parallel to none.

he would pause what he was doing and just look up from the papers in front of him and just take a moment to take you in.

he would momentarily forget that you two were supposed to be secretly dating.

(something that nobody had apparently gotten the memo for recently.)

in his defence, you were just so good at what you did.

something that you constantly proved.

(in hotch’s eyes, a bit too much.)

a prime example is also the same time the team found out about the two of you

it was when you were the first to the unsubs house and went in.

with no back up.

this unsub was making bombs because, well, of course he was - hotch just can’t ever seem catch a break

the second the unsub was in cuffs, hotch went up to you and just hugged you.

at first you thought he was overreacting.

you were fine.

it took you until heard his heavy breaths that he was scared that he would lose you, not just because of the job, but because of what happened to haley.

it’s not that he was scared about losing you.

it was because he couldn’t.

eventually his grip on you loosened and you gave him a soft kiss before pulling away completely. 

in the corner of your eye you saw the looks coming from the team.

it was going to be a long journey back to quantico.
