“Not liking your job today?” Mark questioned with an arch of his brows. While he did have those days where he was frustrated with patients or surgeries, he knew that he would miss his job if he left for a long vacation. “Hmm, well there’s a lovely bar across the street called Joe’s,” the man teased, shrugging his shoulders. “The space needle is a must see, too,” the surgeon added with a shrug. He never was much for sightseeing, especially in Seattle. When he did do touristy things, it was with Lexie, which made him hate sightseeing a little less.

“One of the things I love about trauma is that its such a mixed bag of people and patients. But its also one of the things I hate most about it on certain days.” Marion admitted with a shrug. She knew it wasn’t the best attitude to have at work but she saw no reason to hide it. She was fairly certain she wouldn’t be alone. “Is Joe’s the local then? Where everyone goes after stopping work?”

theo leaned against the nurses’ station as she watched marion. it had been years, but she still found herself smiling a little as she watched the woman. “to seattle you mean? about four years ago now. before that – los angeles to get my paramedic certification when i knew they wouldn’t let me go back, and before that – way too long in a hospital in germany.” she shrugged, chewing on her lip as she realized the other had pretty much just arrived in town. “what – um, brings you to seattle? not that – it’s any of business or anything. you don’t have to tell me, it’s fine.” theo swallowed, realizing she was rambling once again.

“They took you to Germany? No one would tell me where you’d be taken.” Marion admitted somewhat embarrassed to admit what had brought her here. She’d never forgotten Theo and didn’t want them to think that moving on had been easily done. “I em... I guess have a thing for Seattlites. My ex husband has family here and he moved here when we divorced... With our daughters.”

Lexie nodded and stuffed her hands into the pockets of her lab coat.  She completely understood that feeling.  “That’s good.  It is a big place and can get confusing.  A lot of people in my intern class got lost for months,” she explained in an attempt to make conversation with the other.  Lexie was sure she would have gotten lost in the hospital as well if not for her photographic memory.  “Since I was an intern.  And I’m a fourth year now.”

“Oh I’m not one for getting lost. Pretend you know where you’re going and no one ever finds out.” Marion said with a small smirk leaving it uncertain whether she was joking or not. “You’ll have to forgive me I trained in the UK. Is this your fifth year then?”

arizona appreciated the company, she didn’t like to be alone in times like this but she also really didn’t want to talk about it. “ thank you, i appreciate your company. ” she attempted as smile as she looked at the woman beside her. “ days like this are rare but they always pass i guess. ”

After bad surgeries the last thing Marion needed was to be on her own. Whilst she wasn’t the best at making friends she always felt more comfortable having some sort of presence there. When Arizona spoke again she gave a small nod. “It’s okay you don’t need to explain. Tough days are a part of the job description I suppose.”

“Damn, okay. . whatever makes you happy.” Shrugging, she reached forward to grab her coffee when the barista set it down, glancing at the other. “Straight black is your best bet. Their flavourings taste like ass. I’m Amelia Shepherd, by the way.”

“God I swear there’s not a single job that you can actually get good coffee at.” Marion said with a smirk before taking Amelia’s advice and ordering a black coffee. “I’m Marion Wright.”

If Kathleen had been smiling it would have been tighter in that moment, but thankfully this was not one of those rare times. Marion was becoming quite well acquainted with her usual disapproving glare. However stable would be a stretch for any Shepherd, even if she considered herself to be the closest of any of them. “Goldilocks?” She didn’t think so, “Even the three bears would know not to mess with me.” It seemed as though the other woman wasn’t quite as smart. Or perhaps she was just braver.

“And yet you’re meant to be open and approachable? Quite the contradiction aren’t you.” Marion was smiling now enjoying getting under the other woman’s skin even over something as petty as a seat. “Don’t worry. I’m sure the other chairs will do just fine.”

theo swallowed as she kept her eyes on marion. the other wasn’t lying. while she knew she was talking about the countless patients she had brought her, theo had always had a way of getting herself in trouble, and marion – had always had a way of getting her out of it. seeing the small smile on the woman’s face, she relaxed slightly, knowing that didn’t happen all too often. “well, yeah – this is – home. at least when it’s not a prehistoric bunk bed in afghanistan. and – after i got back – i needed the help.” theo mumbled the last of it. coming to terms with what had happened was still something she was processing, and admitting that she had needed more than she could provide herself was still hard. “you being here though – that’s way weirder.”

It was much to her own guilt that she had forgotten that Theo was originally from Seattle. Part of her had presumed that if they couldn’t work for the army they’d still have stayed away but now that she thought about that she wasn’t sure where the assumption had come from. She looked up at the mention of what had brought Theo home. “When did you come home? I em, I’m still new to town.”

“Is that so? Where would you be?” Mark questioned with a dark chuckle, arching his brows as he awaited the answer. The surgeon listened to Marion’s story as to how she got here. Honestly, he wasn’t too surprised to hear that there was a particular reason she came here. When he moved, he had moved for a similar reason–his best friend and, who, at the time he thought of as the love of his life, had both moved to Seattle. “Oh, well, that’s a good reason to move, I suppose. Sounds like you don’t know the Seattle area too well, then? I’d love to show you around,” Mark said smoothly, always being the flirt and smooth talker that he is.

“Oh far away from any patients on my own private yacht.” Marion said with a small laugh. She did enjoy her job but she’d never been too much of a people person if she was honest. She was glad he didn’t seem to be put off by her honest. When he began to flirt she was surprised for a moment before her smile brightened. “Would you indeed? And where would you take me first?”

“In that case I won’t make you.” Marion said giving a small shrug before sitting down next to Arizona. She knew it must have been a difficult surgery just by the look on the other doctor’s face and she didn’t want to just leave her alone.

arizona more or less threw her scrub cap on the floor after she’d lost yet another patient, the second that day. she sat on the bench in the locker room and huffed, she sometimes wondered why she still did this job. “ i really don’t want to talk about it. ” she mumbled as someone approached on her left.
