Dear fellow followers,
My journey on tumblr has been a very meaningful and inspirational one. Over the past year or so, tumblr has been a means of self motivation, communication, and discovery for me. During my time as an IB diploma student, I benefited immensely from the supportive studyblr community. Now that I鈥檝e entered university, I don鈥檛 have the same relationship with tumblr anymore. It鈥檚 certainly not to say I won鈥檛 ever post again, but I just wanted to inform you all that this blog will become less active from now on. As for my youtube. I truly enjoyed making videos but I felt like I needed a bit more personal space.
If you are interested in following my journey, please feel free to read my new blog. I will not be active on youtube or blogspot from now on.
Thank you for your patience and support. If in doubt, message me personally on tumblr.
Cheers! Happy new year!
Shaz

Top productivity? Studyblr thoughts!
Help! I am facing a slight dilemma here and felt like expressing some thoughts. This won鈥檛 be a full on blog post.
How can I juggle all these things (list below) and still be a functioning, healthy human being? I believe that time is a product of effective planning and prioritising, but I鈥檓 curious to see who out there is able to manage such degree of workload without burning out.
- Medical school - Regimented workout schedule - Frequent travelling - Studying 2 foreign languages (Spanish & Japanese) - Social life - Reading literature
Would love to hear everyone鈥檚 thoughts, feel free to inbox me :)

How many hours do you study everyday ?
I鈥檓 still working on this one. There鈥檚 no rigid rule but I鈥檓 planning to test out the pomodoro technique to get a solid 4 hours everyday. Keep in mind 4 hours of genuine studying (no FB no nothing) is a very decent amount and you can get tons of work in during that time.
Cheers!

Q&A: Medical School- Should I study abroad?
Tumblr media
Hello!
I completely understand you. I never even considered studying in my home country until I wanted to do medicine, so it really was a big step for me when I chose not to apply to foreign unis.
Ask yourself, what is most important to you?
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Can you afford to study abroad?
Can you practice in the foreign country?
Can you return to your home country to practice post graduation?
These questions can help you make this decision.
For me, I want to legally practice in HK and thus I decided to study at home. I also would rather save up money and use it for travelling instead. Having started med school, in hindsight, I am very happy about the decision I made. There will be lots of study exchange opportunities, summer programmes (I did the King鈥檚 College London one!). Especially in the medical field, medical student associations, volunteer projects, and international conferences means that there will be lots of opportunities for you to go abroad- as a student or as a doctor.
I have a close friend who is a practicing associate consultant and he regularly travels abroad to attend conferences (eg in Boston, London, Hawaii). Another medical student friend of mine from Spain recently came to HK for her summer surgical attachment. Don鈥檛 be too worried about accessing these opportunities, they will be available to you as long as you are keen and determined.
Best of luck, message me anytime!

Hey! You've got a really nice tumblr! Did some reading on your tumblr and found out what you're doing here and your other platforms. Congrats on 45 for IB btw! I'm an A Level student so I couldn't share the feel, haha! I applied to CUHK and since you're already in CUHK, what is it like there? Is it fun? Does the college system remind you of HP? :b
Heyya!
Thanks for the kind message. Feedback like this always lightens up my day. I think A level and IB share the similarity as any other public examination- a difficult barrier to overcome. You can do it!
What did you apply to CUHK for? Good luck with admissions!
Favourite things?
Lots of food choices (yum cha, waffles, cafe, canteen, kiosks)
Close to nature (literally trees everywhere)
Campus-wise: CUHK is, for HK鈥檚 standards, a very welcoming, well spaced, and peaceful environment
Lots of walking (daresay hiking) up and down the hills
Unfortunately, it鈥檚 nothing like Hogwarts! CUHK isn鈥檛 an ancient British university...

How do you make time to do what you love/fun things in IB? I am currently a freshman and i am already feeling a little swamped
You just have to manage your time wisely. Don鈥檛 waste time on social media, tv shows, etc (it鈥檚 hard I suffer from this too). The best way to stay relaxed and positive about IB is to work efficiently; in your free time, spend it with the people who care about you. Socialising in real life helps to keep you conscious and sane!

I started Ib last month and I'm worried about my Biology HL class. I don't like dissing my teachers because it's probably my own fault that I'm not learning but I feel that my Biology teacher isn't teaching us well. Do you have any advice or online sources that I could use to do well in this class!? Thanks!
Bioninja saved my life. Spend time writing notes, the exams are done by hand so it鈥檚 the best method for knowledge retention in my opinion. If your teacher can鈥檛 help you, get a group of keen classmates together to go through the material. Past paper practice is most important! Learn those mark schemes!
Good luck.

Hey when you applied to pre-med at HKU, did they require IB Chem HL as a prerequisite? My school only offers SL and I don't really know what to do...
I applied to do Medicine at CUHK and HKU. There is no pre med in HK. Yes chemistry HL is required from what I know. Maybe you can do an online course? Check with your coordinator for more details. Good luck!

Do you have any studying tips on how to get a 7 in mathematics SL?
Do lots of past papers
Make sure you understand key mathematical concepts
I honestly believe past papers are the way to go when it comes to SL IB Math.

Did you like King's during your summer there? I'm thinking of going there next year :)
King鈥檚 summer school was an absolute blast. Why?
I got to meet people from all over the world
Made one of my closest friends
Get to learn from highly experienced and nuanced professors
Get to live and explore London for 3 weeks (or more if you stay for 2 sessions)
Helped to maintain momentum for studying even during summer break
If you can afford it, both economically and time wise, I urge you to give it a shot!

I just finished my first week of medical school at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I鈥檓 a 2nd year medic (we have a 6 year programme where the 1st year has a liberal arts-like structure) and because I skipped a year, the workload is intense!
We have 4 main medical courses:
Human Structure (aka anatomy)
Human Function (aka physiology)
Molecular Medicine and Genetics (aka cell bio/pharm)
Bioethics (aka philosophy)
