DTLA’s U.S. Bank Tower, the second-tallest building west of the Mississippi by a spire, is for sale. The asking price is reportedly $500 per square foot, or approximately $700MM. The seller, Singapore-based OUE Ltd., purchased the tower 2013 for $367.5 million. Beginning in 2015, OUE performed a $50 million round of upgrades to the building, revamping the building’s Fifth Street frontage, and adding an observation deck, that famed glass slide, and a giant LED screen inside the building’s glass-fronted ground-floor lobby. The tower has gone from being roughly half empty to almost 85% leased. Commercial real estate acquisitions in China by foreign buyers jumped 62% last year to $9.1 billion. Private equity funds that invest in Asian property raised $15.6 billion in 2018, market research firm #Preqin Ltd. reported. Research shows that overseas firms accounted for 31% of 2018 acquisitions of commercial property in China for $10 million or more. Surpassing 50 million total visitors, LA set new tourism records for domestic and international visitation, hosting an estimated 42.5 million domestic visitors (3% increase) and 7.5 million international visitors (3.6 % increase). #Apple is planning new offices in #CulverCity, San Diego and Seattle. And adding more than 1,000 employees to each location. Over the next 3 years, it will also add hundreds of #jobs in New York, Boston and Portland. Apple will also be planting its flag in #Austin, with plans for a new $1 billion #corporate campus. The move could eventually create 15,000 jobs at the 133-acre development. It already has two offices in the city, and will initially hire 5,000 workers. Earlier this year, Apple said it would invest $30 billion in capital spending in the U.S. over five years. Los Angeles is legalizing and regulating street vending, making it the last major US city to officially embrace sidewalk sellers. The City Council voted 13-0 on Wednesday to set rules that allow municipal officials to grant permits to street vendors for the first time in the nation's second-largest city.  The City of Angels has about 20,000 street vendors citywide but has not legally sanctioned them until now. Street vendors will be allowed to pay a fee and receive a permit. They will not be allowed to sell in Elysian Park during events at Dodger Stadium, or within 500 feet of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Universal Studios, the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, and Staples Center and L.A. Live. Regulations also states carts must have safety wheel locks and will not be allowed to set up shop at bus stops. Vendors must also be a minimum of 20 feet from entrances to “any building, store, theater, movie house, house of worship or place of public assembly.” They must also be no less than five feet from fire hydrants, and distances between street vendors should be “two feet clear.” No vending is allowed in roadways, medians, pedestrian islands or bikeways. There will also be regulations regarding the disposal of trash in plastic bags before disposing of it.
