Waters
Hello darlings! Today I really want to talk about magical waters. I’ll start with simple waters, then one ingredient waters, and then composite waters. Waters is pretty much anything like water that is used magically, so it ranges from storm water to tobacco and damiana tincture, and other stuff. Any of these can be collected whenever is convenient, but I added the time to collect them to make them more potent.
Natural Waters
Rain Water:
Rain water can be used for any spell to make it more potent, but it is a useful tool in peace magic, to quell anger, to relax, and for dream magic. Collect whenever you want.
Storm Water:
Storm water can be either protective or offensive. Use it to wash down your doors to protect you from hexes, and wash your tools with it to amplify their power. You can use it in any hexes or curses you want. To amplify it, add rusty nails to it and let turn rusty. Collect on a waxing gibbous moon.
Swamp Water:
Can be used in works for binding, hexing, or cloaking. Use when wanting to cause illness. Annoint yourself with swamp water to make yourself unnoticeable to others. Colelct on the dark moon (second new moon of the month) or on the new moon.
Marsh Water:
Marsh water is almost the same as swamp water, but it is more suitable for cloaking than other things. It can also be used for cleansing negative energies. Colelct on waning crescent moon.
Hail Water:
Hail water is melted hailstones. Use it for protection or hexing. Similar to storm water, but more aggressive. Use when you want to break sojmeone, or when you wish to cause physical harm. Collect during a full moon for best results.
Salt Water:
Salt water can be used for cleansing and protection from negativity. Simply add salt to water.
Sea Water:
Use sea water in works involving the psyche, or in hexing. It can also be used for cleansing. I use it to work with demonic forces as well. Collect on a new moon.
Lake Water:
Lake water is amazing in works concerning emotions, love, memories, or past life regressions. Boil it and drink it to enhance attempts for past life regressions. Collect on waxing moon.
Pond Water:
Use when wanting to bind someone, or to limit their horizons. Keep a flower vase with pond water in it on a table to silence a conversation to those not sitting at it. Collect on a dark moon.
Spring Water:
Spring water is super versatile. Use it instead of tap water.
Dew:
Dew can allow the witch to cast powerful glamours for beauty and youth. It is an important ingredient in love potions. Collect at sunrise during a waxing or full moon.
Self Water:
Fancy word for spit or urine. This one is a little nasty, but it is to be used whenever a spell needs to be tied to the caster.
Simples
Sun Water:
Bask any sort of water in the sun for a full day. Use it for cleansing, to bring positivity into a space, or for glamours of youth.
Moon Water:
Used to power up any spell. Let water sit in the light of a full moon for a full night.
Tobacco Water:
Steep tobacco into water for a week in the fridge. When strained, mix with 100 proof vodka, about 1.5 parts water for 1 part vodka. Use it to cleanse or to offer to spirits when working with them. Can be used to cause addiction in a person.
Saffron Water:
Steep saffron into water and mix 1 part water with 1 part vodka. Use to raise winds by sprinkling it in the air, or rub on your lips before whistling and raising storms.
Rose Water:
Use for love, glamours, and beauty. Steep fresh rose petals in vodka for a period of 4 weeks, and then extract all the liquid from the petals by pressing them until they have lost their color. Cut with 0.5 part water.
Orange Blossom Water:
Use for joy, beauty, cleansing, and sunshine. Prepare in the same way as the rose water.
Lilac Water:
Use lilac water for sleep, dream magic, spirit work, and cleansing. Prepare in the same way you would prepare the other flower waters.
Apple Blossom Water:
Create this by the same manner as the three flower waters above. Use for protection, love, and beauty.
Holly Water:
Holly water is to be used to protect your family. It will prick at intruders, or unwelcomed guests. It will also allow you to always have knoledge of the safety of your family. Simply steep holly leaves in water and mix with vodka. Do not ingest this, as it is poisonous.
Composites
All Bite no Bark Water:
A powerful water used for protection of a space. Mix together storm water, hair of a black dog, dirt of a grave, the ashes of psalm 7, rose thorns, teeth of a canidae, and three holly berries. Pour around a room which you wish to protect, or water protective plants to give their produce an aggressive kick. This water will protect a space with the ferocity of a rabid dog, and will not warn before attacking.
Fiery Wall of Protection Water:
Mix together sun water with three hot peppers, red brick dust, pottasium nitrate (saltpeter), sulfur, and blackthorn pricks. Another like the above, but more passive. Attacker might suffer a rash after encountering it.
Pitch Water:
Use pitch water to stop someone from making any progress. Mix together water from a swamp, gum arabic or acacia, charcoal dust, and chapparal. It can also be used to dissorient. Fair warning, this water is hella sticky.
Fuck Off Water:
Mix together sumac, apple seeds, thorns of a blackberry, cloves and storm water. Use it to repel unwanted people.
Goodbye Lover Water:
Mix together sea water, sumac, cloves, poppy seeds, thorns of a cactus, petals of a hibiscus flower, and saltpeter. Use it to get rid of unwanted courters or lovers, or to make two people break up.
I hope you guys find this useful! Make sure to be careful with any of the potentially dangerous ingredients listed, and put these to good use! Good luck my darlings.

Candle magick refers to any magical working or spell that uses candles. The candle itself is a stand-in for another force in the Universe. Lighting it is a symbolic act designed to create change. My first spell ever was a candle spell, and many witches start with them.
Candle spells need intent and raised power. You can read my recent article on empowering objects like candles here. I recommend using those techniques on any candle you’re using for magick.
Many witches who cast circles will use candles. They may use them in corresponding colors to represent elemental quarters. In other situations, you might use a candle as a simple representation of elemental Fire.
Choosing Candles
Our ancestor-witches used beeswax candles, and didn’t have fancy colors. Now, we make candles from many substances. Most are made of paraffin wax, a petroleum byproduct. There’s no reason you can’t use these. Beeswax candles smell nice on their own, though, and are fun to use.
Larger candles will obviously burn for a longer time, so keep that in mind when planning as spell. Candles in interesting shapes exist, too! You might choose a heart-shape candle or one shaped like a human being! Figure candles (shaped like people) are awesome. They work well when you want the candle to represent a specific person (like yourself).
Scented candles can be a great addition if the scent is evocative of your intent. This can mean a scent traditionally associated with your goal. You can also choose a more personal scent. If roses remind you of friendship, a rose-scented candle might be good in a friendship spell.
You can use electric candles, too! Many hidden witches and those living in dormitories use them. You can use anything in witchcraft if you empower it. Electricity is a form of energy, like fire, so there’s no reason you can’t use it.
Using Candles
Sometimes, a candle might represent a person or other living thing. You can use this method in things like healing a friend. For this, you can press a bit of the person’s belongings or some of their hair into the candle wax.
Also, a candle might represent a spirit or other force. You might use one to represent the planetary forces of Mercury or Jupiter, for example. Many Wiccans use candles to represent their Goddess and God, as well.
Candles give off energy in the form of light and heat. Some of us use this as an offering to spirits. My husband has done with with great success on many occasions. He often offered a candle’s energy to spirits.
For some witches, candles act as symbols for their own intent, not an outside force. If the flame, color, or other features of a candle help get your personal power moving, why not use it? You can burn paper in the flame, too. This can be great for banishing something from your life. You can also use this technique in transformative spells. Be careful whenever burning things, even paper, though!
Candle magick often incorporates color magick. As I always say, not everyone uses color symbolism the same way. What do colors mean to you? I recommend working out your own personal correspondences for different colors. You can read more about traditional color usage here (and also here), if it interest you.
Also, there’s no reason you have to use color in a spell. If a colored candle is not available to you, don’t worry! Ancient witches probably didn’t use colored candles much. They still worked great candle magick! Don’t feel that colors are necessary all the time!
Dressing Candles
Most witches will “dress” candles with oil before using them. Don’t use undiluted essential oils - it isn’t safe. Mix a bit of your chosen essential oil with a carrier oil (like olive). Using only a carrier oil is fine, too.
I myself dress the candle in one motion. This is from top to bottom when I’m trying to attract something, but bottom to top when I’m banishing something. Some witches dress their candles in halves. They rub from the middle outwards, or the outer parts inwards. Experiment and see what works for you!
If you feel like it, you can roll or coat the dressed candle with herbs, powder, or another substance. I’ve used glitter and colored powder before. It can add extra color or symbolism!
Going Further
You can carve symbols or words into candles. For this, knives don’t work too well. They’re big and too sharp! It’s easy to carve a candle with a toothpick, pencil or pen. You can also sketch sigils and tuck the paper beneath the candle.
Many people scry or do other forms of divination with candles, too. I’ve scried with fire many, many times, and it works great. Other folks will drip candle wax into water and interpret the shape it forms.
Also, you can use candle wax to seal jar spells. Often, I will burn a candle on top of the jar (be very, very careful!) or drip wax around the lid of the jar to seal it. This is a good way to solidify a spell and seal it so that it can germinate.
Be Safe, Though!
Never leave a candle burning unattended, even for a minute! You never know what might happen, and no one wants a house fire! Also, be sure to never place a candle near something that could brush the flame. Don’t burn candles on shelves, either! The flame can nick the upper shelf, which is bad.
Burn candles in actual candle-holders on a stable surface. Place tea lights (which get very warm) on a heat-resistant surface. When burning a candle on a jar, put it all in a fire-safe bowl with sand. That’s how I do it, and I’ve not had any fire problems so far.
Be mindful of family and roommates! Some can be sensitive to candle smoke or scent. If you’re in a home that doesn’t allow burning candles, don’t do it. There’s no need to get into hot water over it!
Thanks for reading my article on candle magick! This information is very basic. Still, I hope it will give you a nice start for practicing witchcraft with candles! Happy magick-making, and I hope everyone’s having a wonderful day!

i need inspiration more often than not when it comes to my book to make sure my book is unique and tailored to me and my craft but also to keep me working in it, so i’m making a post devoted to fun and creative book additions! feel free to add on!
make an entry that has to be read in a mirror.
devote a page to your sun and moon sign, or maybe you and your partners signs and how they interact.
make a page about your totem animal/spirit animal/daemon/patronus/eomkin/your personal corresponding animal.
you could make a page for each holiday, its history, and add a paper pocket into the page filled with recipes.
you could collage things that make you think of a deity. paste in flowers they like.
practice spirit work? draw the spirit! collage the spirit. find art that makes you think of the spirit and pop it in there.
don’t know plant names? name them yourself.
draw your dreams out, decorate in a way that feels right, use colors according to how it made you feel.
draw out the ingredients you want to use in a spell/potion/oil. dab a bit of the creation on the page.
make a page for your familiars. list any spells for them, where you found/adopted them, their breed and things about them, what’s their favorite snack, and if your familiar is cooperative, maybe try to get a paw/nose print!
make a pendulum chart.
find one of those adult coloring books. tear a few pages and stick them in either randomly or maybe in a page about meditation. when stressed, use it as a meditative practice.
chakras, what they mean to you, correspondences, and which you may need to work on. here is a fun test you can take that tells you if your chakras are under-active, over-active, or open.
any fictional/real witches or wizards that stood out to you? why?
write about magickal experiences you had as a child you can’t explain today. what about imaginary friends and were they imaginary?

make a page about how to contact you from the afterlife.
make a page about your spiritual or psychic gifts and how you discovered them.
print out aesthetically pleasing pictures you find portray you and your craft. collage your personal aesthetic/witchy moodboard

a note about jars and herbs and mold
i’ve seen posts that both warn witches not to put herbs in jars because it causes them to mold, and then other posts exclaiming about how jars have been used to store herbs for centuries. and i have yet to see a post that actually focuses on the problem. because they’re both right if they don’t focus on the actual issue
do not put fresh herbs in jars. only put dried herbs in jars.
you know when you leave bread out of its airtight bag and then it gets stale? that’s the water evaporating from it. now it’s a dried husk.
same principle, things with water in them, over time the water inside them leaves, evaporates, and then you’re left with something dried up.
however, when you put fresh herbs in jars, they still have the water in them. if you seal it up, it still naturally seeps out of the herbs, but then it has nowhere to go and collects inside hte jar, and molds.
tl;dr dry your herbs first so you can avoid moldy jars, store herbs to your little heart’s content

witches, let’s talk spell books.
this is such a huge part of our craft, and i think its about time we talk about it.
a side note before we start, there is an amazing video that personally inspired me by a witch (herspeak) that you can watch here! i will include some of the information she gives in her video in this post for those of you who don’t have the time to watch!
first off… grimoire? book of shadows? whats the difference? what on earth even is a book of mirrors?? wait… there’s even more??
well first lets quickly talk about the different types of books!
grimoire: a textbook of magick, a reference book filled with anything you desire or need to remember (lists, correspondences, how-to’s, spells)
book of shadows: for wiccans/pagans, this can be seen as more religious, but it is typically more known for its personal/spiritual journal aspects (religious or not); some may use it for references also
book of mirrors: a book of reflections, for recording experimentation and its results including successes and failures (some like to keep their book of shadows pure with only successes)
book of light: a book used usually by wiccans/pagans that is used by eclectics, referring to light as knowledge; used for notes and information often to be shared whereas a book of shadows is personal and private (sort of makes me think of a less organized/personal grimoire)
the tree: a seax-wica (an anglo-saxon paganism) version of a book of shadows
book of ways: a devotional book for wiccans/pagans
(of course all of these things are up to further interpretation!)
back in the day when witchcraft was more ruled by covens, only one spell book was required for each coven, but now that witchcraft is often a solitary and/or personal path, witches are often encouraged to have their own! most witches will have either a book of shadows or grimoire. some witches will have both, and some will have one book that includes the aspects of both and call it one or the other.
let’s start with the basic thing nobody talks about… the book itself!
what should you use? well first off, you don’t need some big, expensive, and fancy leather book straight out of hocus pocus. if its so fancy that you aren’t going to work in it, don’t use it! you could use…
a sketchbook
you could make a book (a traveler’s notebook is a great idea)
an online book
a binder and insert pages
an old thrift store book and paint over the pages
you could even write and paint on paper and paste all over your walls and work space and make a room your ‘book’
you could choose something that relates to your field of magick if you have a defined one, get creative!
make sure your book a reflection of you. but remember, we are what makes books come alive. reading is what makes languages have purpose. without you there to read it, your book is meaningless. the connection between you and your book is beyond special from the first moment you begin working!
so where on earth do i start? if you already have one, what’s holding you back from working more?
well what interests you? if you don’t know yet, here is a wonderful masterpost of types of magick! find what you like, what sounds cool to you, what resonates with you, research it! (maybe make an entry about it and your discoveries!)
once you know your interests, don’t waste time on things you aren’t interested in. if you don’t care about herbal magick, don’t write down a seven page list of all herbs and their properties. i personally had to retry creating a grimoire a few times in order to learn that lesson.
so how do i bond and grow comfortable with my book? how do i create a connection? how do i give it my personal touch?
do what makes you happy.
create your own aesthetic. maybe ask friends around you what your aesthetic seems to be if you don’t know yourself. don’t follow that big ole leather book stereotype unless you like it. if you do, another great idea for aging your pages are coffee and tea stains on your paper.
sleep with your book under your pillow! bond with it like you would your tarot deck. carry it around throughout the day. let it become a companion.
your book isn’t just a place to write about your craft, infuse your craft! if you like lunar magick, bathe it in moonlight. if you like herbal magick, spray your pages with an herb and water mix.
don’t stress about organization or a table of contents yet. you can put an index at the end when you know you’re done. its your book so you’ll probably have a sense of where things are anyways, but if you’re forgetful like me, use some labelled bookmarks!
in fact, don’t stress about it at all if you can! your book shouldn’t stress you out. mistakes happen. keep negative energy away. you and your book are a conjoined, powerful force! you can paste over pages, paint over them, or even just rip them out. in the wonderful words of herspeak in the aforementioned video, nothing is special until you say it is.
remember, it might take a couple tries to get it right, and that’s okay! you might have to make a couple throughout your lifetime to hold all the knowledge you learn, so no worries.
don’t just copy and paste other peoples’ information into your book, that isn’t how you learn. take note of things that are important to you. are you memorizing or understanding? allow yourself to understand. if it shines and you find it important, write this information in your own words and in a setup you enjoy.
you don’t have to be an artist to make a beautiful book! your book is already beautiful, unique, and magickal because its yours!
here’s some ideas for pages in your book!
correspondence lists. i definitely think color correspondences are important for just about every witch! what do these things mean to you? how do they make you feel and what do you relate them to? do this with other things you find interesting!
devote a page to your sun and moon sign or maybe you and your partners signs and how they interact.
create a protection sigil just for your book.
make a page about your totem animal/spirit animal. please don’t appropriate these terms though, you can also use daemon, patronus, eomkin, or even just your personal corresponding animal.
you could make a page for each holiday, its history and dates, and add a paper pocket into the page filled with recipes.
you could collage things that make you think of a deity you like whether you’re secular or whether you participate. if enjoy and appreciate a deity, give em a page! if you worship or work with one or many, dive in much deeper and show how that relationship affects you.
paste in pictures from books or parts of posters that show what magick means to you.
practice spirit work? draw the spirit! collage the spirit. find art that makes you think of the spirit and pop it in there.
press plants you find, tape them in, bring a little greenery into your book. label them if you like. give them your own names if you don’t know your plants well.
write your dreams out, decorate in a way that feels right, use colors according to how it made you feel.
draw out the ingredients you want to use in a spell/potion/oil. dab a bit of the creation on the page.
make a page for your familiars. list any spells for them, where you found/adopted them, their breed and things about them, what’s their favorite snack, and if your familiar is cooperative, maybe try to get a paw/nose print!
make a pendulum chart.
find one of those adult coloring books. tear a few pages and stick them in either randomly or maybe in a page about meditation. when stressed, use it as a meditative practice.
chakras, what they mean to you, correspondences, and which you may need to work on. here is a fun test you can take that tells you if your chakras are under-active, over-active, or open.
any fictional/real witches or wizards that stood out to you? why?
write about magickal experiences you had as a child you can’t explain today. what about imaginary friends and were they imaginary?
get geeky. make spells about video games! inspire spells based on favorite characters and abilities or get inspiration from your favorite playable mages! get really creative with this one.
make a page about past lives if you know of any.
what do the elements mean to you? what are your favorites? which do you feel connected to?
stick envelopes in there and put recipes, spreads, all sorts of things in there to save some pages! utilize fold out pages for long chunks of information.
do you cast circles? what do you use? what do you think the energy looks like? the color? the shape if you don’t see it as a circle? draw the seen and unseen.
make a page about your spiritual or psychic gifts. how did you discover them?
make a list of things to research. cross them out as you do.
print out aesthetically pleasing pictures you find portray you and your craft. collage your personal aesthetic/witchy moodboard
i could list on and on, but i hope i’ve given you some creative inspiration! make your book what you want! keep researching and gain inspiration from others if you’re ever lost. feel free to message me if you ever have questions!
happy casting!

Greetings and welcome!
I’m just starting out on this blog, and am relatively new to practicing witchcraft - that being said, I’m always open to constructive critiscism!
This’ll be a blog dedicated to storing witchcraft knowledge for those who want to practice, but maybe on the low-down, or if you’re busy and don’t have much time. The former is more true for me, but I’ll try to help anyone who comes to me with questions!
