𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐀 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒  ──  keeping  his  emotions  in  check  .  right  now  ,  he  wants  to  take  a  running  leap  out  of  the floor  -  to  -  ceiling  windows  behind  his  desk  and  do  a  somersault  on  his  way  down  .  he’s  able  to  school  his  face  quickly  ,  but  from  the  smirk  curled  on eliza’s  lips  he  knows  she  saw  the  𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐂  .  christopher  clears  his  throat  ,  sitting  up  straighter  in  his  chair  ,  folding  his  hands  on  top  of  his desk  .  he  can  𝐁𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐋  .  playing  dumb  in  these  situations  never  fails  and  it’s  with  this  belief  that  christopher  says  ,  𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 .  .  . “  yes  ,  yes  ,  i  remember  .  the  ,  uh  .  .  .  the  conference  ,  of  course  .  of  course  .  ”  he  𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘  fails  to  mention  just  what occurred  multiple  times  on  the  last  night  of  said   conference   .  as  good  as  christopher  is  at  keeping  a  strong  poker  face  ,  he  𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒𝐍'𝐓  think  he can  control  the  red  tinging  the  tips  of  his  ears  .

the  bag  swinging  from  the  crook  of  eliza’s  elbow  is  christopher’s  saving  grace  and  he  doesn’t  hesitate  to  use  it  as  a 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄  to  pull  him  free  from  his  terrible  attempt  at  being  casual  .  “  𝐔𝐌  ,  ”  is  all  that  christopher  can  come  up  with  at  first  and  he  has  to  physically  stop  himself  from  banging  his  head  on  his  desk  . “ so  …  nobu  ?  ”  he  clears  his  throat  and  gestures  to  the  bag  ,  “ i  ,  uh  .  .  .  love  their  sweet  shrimp  .  ”

𝐡𝐞'𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬  ...  it's  night  and  day,  the  difference  between  chris  from  the  conference  and  christopher  chase,  vice  president  of  cadence  records.  eliza  laughs  at  this,  at  the  careful  control  of  his  face  and  the  stiffening  of  his  posture.  her  smile  is  PLAYFUL, but most importantly, it remains  smug  —  she's  got  no  plans  to  assuage  his  discomfort.  INSTEAD,  her  heels  click  across  the  office  while  she  ignores  his  attempts  at  small  talk,  letting  the  paper  bag  fall  with  a  soft  (  plop  !  )  onto  chris'  — no,  christopher's  — desk.

❛  right  ...  the  conference,  ❜  eliza  repeats,  taking  the  seat  across  from  him.  she  crosses  one  leg  over  the  other,  skirt  drawn  taut  from  the  movement,  and  taps  on  her  chin.  ❛  it's  funny  —  ❜ she  continues  ,  eyes  BORING  into  his  own.  ❛  i  remember  so  LITTLE  about  that  conference.  didn't  we  have  better  things  to  do  ?  ❜  eliza  smiles  again,  recalling  all  she's  heard  about  christopher's  leadership  style.  but  when  she  looks  at  the  man  across  from  her,  all  she  can  think  is  :  he  doesn't  look  so  scary  now.

𝐇𝐀𝐖𝐊𝐄 , 𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐙𝐀​

𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐑’𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐋   ──   but  lately  ,  he’s  been  so  busy  that  he  hasn’t  had  time  to  meet  them  ,  instead  delegating  all  welcoming  messages  to  his  assistant  to  dole  out   .  he  likes  to  keep  up  with  new  hires  ,  though  ,  especially  the  heads  of  the  departments  .  he  likes  to  know  who  he’s  trusting  to  represent  the  face  of  cadence  .  so  when  he  finally  has  the  chance  to  meet  eliza  hawke  (  god  ,  the  name  is  so  𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐑  but  he  just  can’t  place  it …  )  ,  needless  to  say  he’s  a  little  eager  .  he’s  heard  only  good  things  about  her  .

she’s  supposed  to  stop  by  his  office  at  around  one  -  thirty  ,  right  after  lunch  (  although  that  𝐈𝐒  something  he  forgot  about  .  .  .  he’ll  have  to  pick  something  up  from  the  vending  machine  down  the  hall  )  and  he’s  prepared  to  smile  his  best  smile  and  welcome  this  person  to  the  ranks   ──   when  the  door  to  his  office  opens  and  he  comes 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄  with  someone  he  honestly  didn’t  think  he’d  ever  see  again  .  𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐓  .

𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚'𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬  ...  her  recent  years  have  been  spent  practicing  law  along the  eastern  seaboard  and  the  sun  is  a  welcome  friend  on  her  skin,  warming  her  cheeks  even  through  the  tempered  floor-to-ceiling  windows  of  her  new  office.  it's  a  cushy  job,  to  say  the  least,  and  she's  feeling  MORE  than  pride  about  it  —  almost  like,  if  you  thought  she  was  cocky  then  ...  you're  definitely  going  to  hate  her  now.

even  through  w e e k s  of  the  hiring  process,  meeting all  the  higher  ups  and  talking  heads  and  check  signers  of  cadence  records,  she's  still  yet  to  sit  with  the  company's  elusive  ( read: busy )  vice  -  president.  christopher  chase,  she  repeats  to  herself,  having  learned  his  name  from  the  quick  rundown  her  assistant offered  (  she'd  researched  the  legal  history  of  cadence,  but  admittedly  hadn't  had  time  to  break  down  its  chain  of  command.  celebrities  are  ,  notoriously  , always  getting  into  TROUBLE.  )

so,  for  their  first  meeting,  eliza  figures  she'd  do  herself  a  favor  and  splurge  on  lunch  for  two.  a  takeout  bag  of  nobu  hangs  from  the  crook  of  her  elbow  when  she's  waved  in  by  someone  at  the  front  desk,  and  the  L O O K  on  christopher  chase's  face  brings  a  grin  to  her  own.  ❛  mr.  chase,  ❜   she  says  with  courtesy,  shame  absent  from  her  features.  ❛  have  we  met  before  ?  ❜

     ⇢     phoebe tonkin. thirty. cisfemale. she/her.  i can’t believe i just saw ELIZA HAWKE walking out of cadence records. they’re lucky enough to be the HEAD OF THE LEGAL TEAM at cadence records and they've been with the company for ONE MONTH. it's been stated at cr that they're known to be FAULT-FINDING but i heard they can be ALLEGIANT too and they seem to give off a vibe that reminds people of red lipstick on its 8th hour, draping your wrist over the steering wheel, hiding your bad smoking habits, & pointed toe heels .

eliza is ultra different from adri but if im honest ... both are messes ... i try my best to keep my intros short so i will sparknotes her life below but pls message if u wanna plot or if u wanna know more about her ! either way thank u for reading this and for being a great group ajshkajsh ... it has been expressed to me ( not here ) that people feel A Way™ about phoebe tonkin fcs but this is my first time playing her and i will try my best to not be Like That™ ( whatever that means )

eliza is australian because phoebe is australian and 1. h2o and 2. she has a terrible american accent and i know this is all fake but i refuse to suspend my disbelief for that long . anyways she was born and raised in melbourne, the only child to an american soldier and an australian flight attendant. some may ask her how that worked out and her honest answer is that she wishes it didn't

she grew up to be a bit of an army brat, not necessarily because they moved around a lot but in the sense that her father's always been pretty strict. there was never a lock on her door, her social and online activities are heavily monitored, she has to say yes sir to her own dad ? this mans got issues ... clearly . for someone like eliza, always a bit inquisitive and rebellious and independent, it felt stifling at best. her mother was no reprieve, either, intent on creating the image of a perfect, nuclear family that often times her pressure was just as suffocating. when her father, one day, decided he missed arizona and took his wife and fourteen year old daughter with him, eliza felt more isolated from the world

so she overcompensated in school to find that control. for her family, her hard work was an indicator of ambition. for her, it was a way to not be inside her house. as debilitating as her family was for her mental health, that level of accuracy and perfection and need for control propelled her to the top of every, if not most things, she did. when she joined the debate club in her high school, i think you can only imagine how freeing it was to finally win an argument and have platform for her own opinions

eliza was supposed to be a politician. but when college and that freedom hit ... she figured her escapades would be best kept secret if she were an attourney. she double majored in business and in law, having degrees in both, and soon became an asset in a major law firm. she'd gained notoreity as a real shark in her firm, but after she won a suit against the team put together for [ redacted celebrity name ], and then another one ... and then another one ... she was recruited to actually work for cadence record's rival label to be a part of the legal team.

she went in for the interview and was extended the offer. instead of jumping at the opportunity, she sat on it ( LIKE A BUSINESS WOMAN ! ) until either a.) they raised their price or b.) someone extended a better offer. it wasn't like she was hiding anything either, so when word got out that the person costing all these record labels hundreds of thousands of dollars could potentially be a free agent ... offers rolled in. she picked cadence because, more than the money and the brand, they offered her something no one else did: at the young age of thirty, she would be in charge of the whole team
