Charlie Dalton's Expulsion

You know what, this right here was the only part of the end of Neil's story arc that upset me. Sure Charlie Dalton was the troublemaker, and had been throughout, but expelling the best friend of the kid who just died when it's obvious his actions were fuelled by grief just means you'll have another teen suicide on your hands. Charlie being expelled meant he wasn't there in the final goodbye to Keating scene with the desks, which took away from the fact the empty desk in the middle was Neil's because there was another empty desk for Charlie. Sure suspension maybe, but Charlie was the only character besides Todd who deserved to be standing up for what Neil would have done. Throughout the film, he's shown as the first to truly deeply understand Keating's point. Neil understands Keating on a surface level, Charlie already has it in his soul. I desperately wanted a scene of Charlie breaking down perhaps alone, because he didn't want to break Todd even more. Charlie doesn't even get his own scene about the expulsion, he's just suddenly gone. But to have Charlie remain, as an opposite to Todd would be so powerful. Could you imagine, Todd finally coming out of his shell, channelling Neil, and Charlie retreating, suddenly empty inside? Todd and Neil had a romantic connection despite knowing each other 4 months but Charlie knew him for YEARS. Charlie deserved better.
