Final Reflection
What did I learn from the activity & how might I apply this more widely.
Dance: I learnt the importance of creativity and being open-minded to other ideas. Everyone has a different style of dance they prefer and its important to take that into account when choosing dances to learn. I think this can be applied in other aspects of my life such as coming up with innovative ideas to solve problems.
Touch Rugby: Touch rugby pushed me to keep improving on my skills each and every week. This involved me constantly practicing my passing in order to improve my catching and my quick passes. I hope to use that resilience and perseverance in all aspects of my life.
Borneo Project: I learnt the importance of giving back to the community. Though we live now in a globalised society, it is important to care about our local community and how we can work on improving it.
What did I do? Was I successful in meeting my goals?
Dance: I wanted to improve my dance skills. I have found that my moves have become a lot cleaner, I’m now more flexible and I have more control over my moves now.
Touch Rugby: When I began to play touch rugby, I wanted to improve my play by incorporating more passes and skills. Now, I feel comfortable passing longer distances and also dodging people though it is still a skill I am hoping to improve.
Borneo Project: I wanted to contribute to a rewarding cause and that was really showcased through the Borneo Project trip that I went on. I was able to witness what the money we raised contributed to and this filled me with a sense of fulfilment.
How did I think/ feel during the activity?
Dance: Depending on the dance, I would feel either very relaxed or stressed. This was often my stress-relieving activity.
Touch Rugby: This made me feel energetic. I constantly felt adrenaline whenever something interesting happened in the game such as if someone got through the defence.
Borneo Project: During the activity, I was mostly tired but by the end of it, I felt very fulfilled.
How did I interact with others? What did I learn about myself and others?
Dance: I learnt that I am good at providing others with ideas. For each performance, I provided ideas on formations and lighting. This CCA worked best when each person was contributing their own ideas.
Touch Rugby: Touch rugby required us to always give other constructive criticism. I learned that my usual tactic is dodging the opponent which is different from others who uses passing to confuse the defence.
Borneo Project: Borneo Project required lots of small groups working together as one collectively. This means that we had to communicate well with each other. I learnt that a lack of communications can lead to discrepancies in understanding, which led to conflict.
What did the activity mean to me? Should others do this activity? Why?
Dance: This activity was amazing way I could mix my creativity with staying fit. I think everyone should try it as it can appeal to a wide range of audiences.
Touch Rugby: This activity was my way of trying out a sport that I was not that familiar. I think others should do this activity as a way of connecting with others and releasing stress.
Borneo Project: This activity was my way of giving back to my local community. I encourage everyone to take part in fundraising campaigns as it will allow you to connect with your local community.
How do I see myself developing as a result of this activity?
Dance: I think that this has helped develop my resilience and perseverance. I had to have the discipline to keep practising every day.
Touch Rugby: This has helped my physical physique by improving my stamina and my agility. I think improving my health is a very positive development that has arisen from actively playing sports.
Borneo Project: This has given me a sense of belonging in my community. As someone who has very strong ties with my local community, this has given me a sense of belonging that I hope will continue to stay strong in the future, even if I go abroad.

Log of Learning outcomes
Increased awareness of own strengths and areas for growth
I believe I was able to achieve this through dance. As someone who has never been to a professional dance class, it meant that I was constantly having to critique my own moves. I was able to recognize that I had a preference towards certain dance style that required more ‘flowy’ movements such as my performance of youth during the peace day festival and I felt that I performed when performing performances like that.
Through performances, I could rewatch my dances and look for ways to improve. For me, this would be facial expressions. I find that I tend to smile often during performances due to hearing support from the audience. This is not always appropriate for every performance such as my performance of ‘Cartier’ which required us to look sassier. This has pushed me to start recording myself more up close in order to see my facial expressions.
Undertaken new challenges
One new challenge I undertook during this was joining the school musical. I am not someone who has ever trained professionally in singing so joining this was a new challenge. As someone who has always just danced, it was new to have to dance and sing simultaneously. I find myself undertaken many new challenges which have allowed me to experience things outside my comfort zone.
Planned and initiated activities
I have been the leader of the student-led dance CCA at school for nearly 2 years. With this, I had to organise performances which involved formations, dances, outfits and lighting. Originally the plan for the cca had been to perform once a term, however, we decided to push ourselves to also perform during multiple school events. This would not have occurred if we didn’t come u with the idea and organised ourselves accordingly.
Worked collaboratively with others
One activity that has required me to work collaboratively is touch rugby. Touch rugby is a team sport which means it requires lots of communication in order to score. This communication had to be improved with each game in order for us to win. This included quick communication in order to lead to quick passes. This would help confuse the opposition, making it easier for us to score a try.
Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
I think my dance CCA has shown my perseverance and commitment. As someone who leads the CCA, I am expected to be learning the dance independently and then teach it to everyone else. This meant that I had to find time in order to learn dances and still balance my school life. I was committed to the CCA and that was why I was willing to spend lots of my free time learning dances.
Not every dance that we have done is one that I have particularly enjoyed. This may be because it is not my preferred style of dance or I just don't like the song. However, I will still learn of the dance for others in the CCA.
Engaged with issues of global importance
I was able to engage with issues of global importance when I raised money through Borneo Project. With this project, we raised money for a rural village in Sabah, Malaysia. Urbanization can lead to difficulties living in more rural communities as you are not getting the same help that you can get in a city area. Most things are done by the community so I'm glad I was given the opportunity to be able to help this community.
Considered the ethical implications of their actions
With fundraising, it is important to think about the influence of our actions. With the Borneo Project, we are able to impact a small community in Sabah, Malaysia.

Peace Week Performances
Peace week is a yearly celebration at school where the school focuses on promoting peace for a whole week. This involves a festival and an assembly. I performed for both the festival and the assembly.
Peace day festival
For the peace day festival, my friend and I decided to perform a duet to Troye Sivan’s ‘Youth’. We decided to perform this as we have been wanting to perform a duet together. As it is potentially our last year performing together, we wanted to take the opportunity to perform. We decided on this song as we wanted to perform a song that was upbeat and cheerful to tie in with the theme of peace.
The link to the original choreography: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq89pRZqhk0
Intro part inspired by: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEPOWJJxKC8
This choreography differs from many of the other dances that I’ve done as it requires more intricate movements. When performing as a duo, it is important to be in sync as the focus in on only 2 people. If someone messes up, it is very obvious. This can be extremely difficult especially as we both learned the choreography individually. This choreography requires for us to mirror each other's movements a lot. This would have made it difficult to learn the choreography together so we decided it would be easier to learn it separately. When we learnt the choreography, we picked up on different details which had to be discussed when we practiced together.
One issue that we faced when performing this was that we had to perform slightly late. Lunchtime is only an hour long and there were more than 10 acts set to perform. This meant that each performer had to be on time to their performance. However, this was not the case. Many people did not show up during their allotted time which caused us to perform later than anticipated. Many people were leaving the area during the performance which may have meant that less people watched it.
Overall, this was a very fun performance. It really pushed me to step out of my comfort zone as a dancer and try out a genre I was not comfortable with. I think this has helped improve my resilience as I had to keep working on this dance in order to perfect it.
Peace Day Assembly
Peace Day Assembly was an assembly which talked about the school year so far and highlighted key global issues such as forest fires. We were asked to perform in order to entertain the audience so that it wouldn’t just be lots of speeches at once. This performance had 5 people involved. It took 3 weeks to prepare.
The song we performed are:
Famous Dex - Pick It Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A9EMLrURS8
Cheat Codes - Feels Great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fis3kSInsvA
This performance was organized outside of cca time. It was quite difficult as we were often unable to practice in a dance studio as they were already in use. This meant that we often had to practice in classrooms or areas that did not have a mirror, which made it difficult to learn and perfect the dance. Mirrors are important when learning a dance as it allows for the dancer to look at their own movements and change then. If we look only at the person teaching, there is no way you can tell if you are doing the moves correctly. The way we went around this was by filming ourselves each time and watching it over.
This dance was especially fun to organize as each person worked on their parts at home, which made going through it together a lot easier. I had a center part in ‘Feels Great’ which required for me to learn choreography individually. This made the process easier for the rest of the team as they didn’t need to put in the extra effort into teaching me a dance they don’t need to know.

Art Mural
I participated in creating a mural at school which was supposed to represent the 17 sustainable development goals (S.D.G). This was a project that was completely student-led which included choosing the design of the mural. My friend had designed the mural however, there was lots of discussion about the colours that would be used. This required a team effort in order to decide.
On the first day of painting the mural, there were many factors that slowed down the process. Firstly, it was raining heavily that morning, that made us uncertain as to whether we could even begin that day. This led to the actual painting of the wall being delayed by an hour. Then when measuring the wall, we realised that the area that we originally anticipated was too big and we wouldn’t be able to paint it without getting a ladder. As the ground below the mural was not flat, it would be too dangerous for us to attempt to paint it. Due to this, we decided to rescale the design. This meant that we would also have to change the design slightly as the previous design incorporated some windows that were no longer in the area we will be painting on.
The process of painting the mural was slow and steady. We had to put on multiple layers of paint in order to make the colour as opaque as we wanted it to be. This meant that the project took longer I feel like it was worth it. I am very satisfied with the end product. I’m not someone who is very artistic so being part of this was new and I’m excited to be apart of projects similar to this.

Borneo Project Trip Day 5
On day 5, we continued building up the brick walls. It was the final day and we wanted to complete as much as we could. By the end of the day, we were able to see all the progress we had made in the past 5 days. We had:
Destroyed the stage in the centre of the area
Brought bricks to the project area
Helped teach the children English
Built-up the walls of the community centre
That night, we also were able to give cheques to each family in the village, as well as bags of rice using the remaining money. Seeing the money that was gained throughout the year at school go to use in another community was very fulfilling and it really showed the difference that can be made even through fundraising. As someone who partook in fundraising throughout the school year, it showed me that the effort we put in was not wasted. We were able to raise approximately 12,000 BND to give to a rural community and I am very proud that we were able to collect that through a student-led cca.

Borneo Project Trip Day 4
Day 4 of the community project was fun as the stage was finally fully destroyed. It took lots of effort to complete but it was very rewarding to see that something that we worked on had resulted in something good. After this, we began to help build the walls of the centre. This involved us laying bricks and also making cement.
Making cement required lots of teamwork. We had to mix sand, cement mix and water in order to make the cement. We had to work as a team to mix them as fast as possibleI’m grateful I worked with such a hardworking group of community helpers and fellow students. We were able to make these activities extremely fun and that really helped keep our motivation high.
Bricklaying was a new skill I had never thought I would be learning. I did not realise the amount of concentration and precision needed in order to build up a wall. We had to mark out even spaces across a rope that went along the height of the wall. Then we had to make sure the bricks were all in line with a string we would have going along the desired height for a layer. It was important that the bricks were evenly spaced and that they were placed in the right place. If that was not done, the wall would not be straight. This was a skill that took a while to get used to as we did not want to make any mistakes that would show when the wall was complete. This was a very relaxed process and it was a nice contrast from the strenuous labour work that we had to do for the stage.
The other workers were a key part of making this project a success as they were there to guide through the whole process. They taught us the proper way in which to use the equipment and that was extremely helpful. They worked hard each day, starting earlier and ending later than we did. As they spoke fluent Malay and partial English, we were able to converse with them easily.

Borneo Project Trip Day 3
Day 3 was quite similar to day 2 in terms of the work that we had to do. There was also an added activity that we had to do: carrying bricks closer to the area. We were surprised to find that this was a job that the children would do. Throughout day 2, we had seen the children coming to and fro from the project carrying small bags of bricks. It really highlighted the fact that this is a community project. Each person in the community took part in helping the project.
A topic of interest during this day is that we found that during the final night staying at the village, we would have a farewell dinner where we were expected to prepare a performance. As a group, we had to discuss what would be the best way we could perform with the limited time we had to prepare this and the limited resources we had. This took lots of discussions as there were many differing opinions on what we should do. In the end, we decided to perform a song as it was simple and we could use cups as an instrument.

Borneo Project Trip Day 2
This is the day we started the construction work. We decided to split into 2 groups: stage and sand. The stage group would start with destroying the stage whilst the sand group would start on separating sand from the other materials.
I started in the ‘stage’ group. This was a completely new experience for me. We had to use a sledgehammer, rakes and hoes in order to destroy it. I found that the sledgehammer was very difficult to use as it was very heavy and I became tired very easily. It was very satisfying to use but I realised that I would be of more use using the other equipment. Thus, I began to work on chipping away on the stage in order to make it easier for the sledgehammer to destroy it. I also used a wire cutter in order to cut the wire used in the structure of the stage.
When I moved to the ‘sand’ I was grateful to learn that the job was a lot easier than destroying the stage. My group was able to complete this pretty quickly, which allowed us to take a well-deserved break. Throughout the project, we were always reminded to constantly rehydrate ourselves as it was very strenuous work. By lunch, we were all exhausted. This work is not something that we have to do often and we weren’t used to the copious effort that was needed for it.
After working, we were brought to the multipurpose hall in the village where we played with the kids and taught them English. The children all spoke primarily Malay which meant that the Malay speaking students had to take charge when we teach them. We decided the best way to teach them would be through allowing them to draw and then quizzing them on the English words that would define what they drew.

Borneo Project trip Day 1
The Borneo Project trip is an annual trip for year 12s who have partaken in the Borneo Project CCA throughout the year. During this trip, we work with the locals to help with one of the many villages in Sabah, Malaysia.
As our group is small compared to previous years (12 people), we were not brought to the usual school which students at JIS go to. Instead, we were brought to Kampong Terikon, a rural village just past Ranau. At this village, the population was approximately 100 people. We had to be at the airport at 5:45am and then proceeded to depart at 7:20 for a short 20 minutes flight. After this, we drove to the village which took approximately 5 hours. We did take some short breaks in between, but it was still a long ride and we were all very tired.
Many of us were not aware of the weather at the place so we were surprised to find it more similar to Brunei than to the mountainous region of Mount Kinabalu we were in. The weather was hot and humid but at night it got very cold.
As it was our first day, we were not expected to work on the project but we were shown what we were going to do. They wanted to build a community centre and we’re going to help them. When we entered the village, we were greeted with a traditional performance by the village children accompanied by music played with traditional instruments. We were able to be immersed in their culture quickly. By the end of day 1, we were all settled into the homestay and we were about to get prepared for the next day.

Netball COPA term 2 year 12
COPA is a yearly event held at school where students from year 10-13 are split into teams and play in a netball tournament. As someone who no longer played netball competitively, I decided to participate in order to enjoy playing netball without the huge pressures of being in a serious competition. This tournament included a mix of people who play competitively and people who play for fun. I had a total of 2 games per week that were each 15 minutes.
This event really pushed me to improve my fitness as a netball game required you to move around quickly for a long period of time. As someone who prefers shooting, I also had to make sure that my shooting was accurate in order for us to score. However, it is important to note that though certain positions are preferred, a good team played must be able to play any position when needed. There were mainly times where I played as defence as a lot of the girls in my team preferred attack. This meant my offence and defence had to be good.
I was selected to be the vice-captain of my team, which was honestly something I was unprepared for. This meant I had to make sure the team was organised and that we were playing to the best of our capabilities. My team may not have scored high during this but, I am happy that I pushed myself to play netball again.

Cambodia Carnival Performance
Our group was asked to perform for the Cambodia Carnival, a yearly school event that raises money for charities in Cambodia such as the Angkor Wat Hospital for Children. We decided to perform two songs which we had previously learnt. The songs we danced to was ‘Lemon’ by Nerd and ‘Finesse’ by Bruno Mars.
This performance required less preparation compared to other performances as it was set outdoors rather than on a stage. This meant that we did not have to care about lighting.
One of the main differences between this performance and other performances was the number of people performing. As this was a performance we had to prepare for in our own time rather than during cca time, we had fewer people performing compared to usual. There were 2 of us (originally there were 3) performing Finesse whilst there were 5 of us (originally there were 10) performing Lemon. As each dance had fewer people than before, we had to modify the formations accordingly. This was especially difficult for the ‘finesse’ dance as they were sections in the dance that each person would be doing a different move. As we were now only 2 people, we had to modify the dance in order to make it look better.
On the day of the performance, there were some technical difficulties. The music stopped multiple times which meant that we had to perform the dance at least 3 times. However, we tried to not let that deter us from giving people a good performance.
Overall, this was a very fun experience and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to participate in raising money for a good cause.

Earth Day Assembly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVgVWnlOH94
8 of us from OGROOKIES decided to perform for the Earth Day Assembly on 19th April 2019. We decided to have fewer people in this performance as we only had 2 weeks to prepare and we did not want to stress everyone into learning the dance. This performance consisted of 4 songs:
16 Shots
Deja Vu by Justin Bieber and Khalid
Don't Play by Si-K
Wow by Post Malone
We decided these during the term break and practiced them individually before meeting during school to practice these together. Due to the short time we had to prepare this, we practiced after school and during lunchtimes.
One thing that this performance tested was my stamina. Each performance required lots of energy and I was in 3 of the performances. This made it extremely difficult for me to have enough energy for each performance and after every run-through, I felt extremely tired. When looking back at the performance, I found that some of my moves were not as powerful as I would have liked them to be. There were times where my moves could have been bigger.
Overall, I’m really proud of the performance that we were able to put together in 2 weeks. It took a lot of extra effort to make sure that we could put this together and I am happy that we were able to perform this. After the performance, I was told that many people enjoyed the performance which made it all worth it. There were a few people who even wanted to join OGROOKIES afterwards.
16 Shots
This performance was initially for a flashmob however, this was cancelled which led to us performing this during the assembly. This choreography was initially done by a kpop group called BLACKPINK so we decided to cover a member each when covering this. I chose to cover Jennie who had one center part and who was mainly at the side of the performance. This is because I was not as familiar with this style of dance as compared to the rest of the group, hence I felt more comfortable at the side rather than at the center.
One of the main difficulties of this dance was that one of the dancers was actually no longer in school which made it difficult to practice with her. We were only able to practice with her the day before the performance, which made us all worried about the synchronisation of the performance. We had all learnt it individually which meant that we had all picked up on different details and danced it slightly differently. We had a short amount of practice time which caused us to not have the dance as I would have liked it to be.
This performance has reminded me why I don’t wear my hair down during performances. During the performance, I became distracted by my hair which caused me to miss a move or not make the move as powerful as I would have liked.
Dont Play
Don’t play was a choreography that made me push myself in terms of teaching and cleanliness of my dance. As there were only two of us performing the verse, we had to make sure it was in sync as any mistakes would be immediately noticed by the audience. It was difficult to get the timing down but I was proud of the sync of that section.
The dance break was one of the most difficult parts of the dance because it required quick movements and also required us to look clean whilst doing it. I had taught this to the other 2 dancers and I did find that it was hard to sync this. I found that it was easiest to teach the dance in terms of the counts as it allowed us to all have the same timing.
One of my biggest regrets during this performance was the miscommunication between us and the tech team. During the performance, we had planned for the lights to be purple during the verse and then transition to a spotlight during the dance break. However, during the performance, there was no light during the beginning of the dance break which meant that the audience didn’t see what I considered was the hardest part of the dance which was a shame. After this, instead of going to purple, the light changed to red which was for the next performance. I understand why it may have been difficult for the tech team as we only had one run-through with the team before the performance.
Wow
Wow was the final song in the performance with 6 people in the routine. This was the routine that we perfected first as it required the most people and we had thought it was the most difficult. Luckily, Fauzah had made a tutorial to the dance during the term break, which meant that we could practice the dance before we met back at school. This made it easier for me to learn the details and it meant that we all learnt the same details.
One of the difficulties in Wow was the sequence in the video. It required a lot of movement which needed a lot of energy. It was hard to get this part in sync and we practiced it at least 10 times in a row to ensure that we were all in sync. We practiced how we wanted to end the performance multiple times.

End of Term 2 Performance
OGROOKIES decided to perform for the end of term 2 assembly. We decided to perform 4 songs: Cartier by dopebwoy, Fiance by Mino, Finesse by Bruno Mars and Better by Khalid. This performance was 5 minutes long. I was involved in 3 songs which were cartier, finesse and better.
This term, 18 people performed during this assembly. This is the most we have ever had and I was excited to create a performance that would really fill the stage. Though I was excited to work with so many people, I was nervous as I knew that it was gonna to difficult to manage everyone at once. In addition, I was unsure about peoples commitment to the cca as I know that a lot of people have other cca’s and if we needed to do extra practice, it was gonna be difficult to set a time that everyone can met.
I was one of the main people managing this performance, including being the main person in charge during our stage rehearsal and the day of performance. I was not used to this role so I was actually quite nervous to do it. Usually, there are other people to help out at this time however, they had already left on holiday. I think this was a real test of my leadership skills.
During the stage rehearsal, I was in the tech booth checking lighting and helping out with formations. Luckily, the tech team had given me a microphone so I could communicate with the others on stage. Personally, I found this challenging as since I was alone, it was difficult for me to check formations, lighting timings and the synchronization of the dancers simultaneously. In addition, as I was too far I could not see their facial expression, which was one of the things we identified that we need to improve. As we were given a 45 minute slot to rehearse, it was enough to go through the dance but I was only able to practice once on stage. However, I feel that our stage rehearsal helped everyone improved as it helped everyone become more comfortable with filling the stage and getting to formations on time. Furthermore, a lot of others were there to help film the rehearsal and to give their personal opinion about the dance, which I was grateful for.
On the day of the performance, our group met during that break to run through the routine a few times before performance. This included practicing any outfit changes that would occur. I had a full outfit change between cartier-finesse and then a jacket change during the transition to better. I was quite unprepared for this as I have been unable to practice this in the dance room due to the difficulties of changing clothes in a dance room filled with 20 other people. The performance was short but fun. I’m glad that a lot of people were able to step out of their comfort zone to perform and that they enjoyed it. The audience also seemed to enjoy it which us always a good thing.
Cartier:
Cartier was the first song we performed and also the last one we learned. Cartier is a very upbeat powerful dance so it needed a lot of energy. This worried me a bit as it is the first dance, I needed to preserve some energy for the other dances.
I was very happy with how this dance ended up as we were quite in sync and we were able to give a high energy performance, despite the fact that we had other performances to do. I was proud of my other members for pushing through and coming constantly at lunchtimes for further practice.
Finesse:
This song was the third song in the performance. I was not supposed to be performing this song however, one of the dancers were unable to perform so I stepped in to take their place. At first, it was difficult as the rest had already learnt the dance and i had to catch up.
This dance was interesting as it was a partner dance. This was the first time I ever had a partner during a routine which I was not used to. My partner and I often mirrored each other moves and had to be in sync in order to make it look good. We also needed to have good chemistry as we had to work together a lot.
Better:
This was the final song in the performance. This song leans more towards lyrical hip hop compared to the other songs, which was a genre that the other members and I were not used to performing. I was put in charge of this routine, which meant that I had to teach the dance and create the formations.
This song was probably the most difficult of them all seeing as it was hard to describe the beats of this dance and to teach it as it required a lot of smooth movements. This contrasted with the other dances we do as we often choose to do dances with strong powerful movements.

Zumba term 2 and term 3 year 12
I decided to join the zumba cca because lots of my friends had joined and I wanted to incorporate more exercise into my weekly routine. As I do enjoy dance, I felt that zumba would be fun as I already had a love for dance. It would also be fun to work towards improving how quickly I can pick up moves as the instructor had a large range of songs to choose from.
When I first started, I was unprepared for how tired I would be afterwards. I hadn’t done zumba since p.e in year 11. The atmosphere was really fun as I knew a lot of people who were doing the cca and that really motivated me to try my hardest throughout the whole cca period. We wouldn’t get a long break between each song, which meant that we would be doing zumba for an hour straight every week. I think that really helped improve my stamina, which is something that I found helped me in a lot of other sports.
After a few weeks, I was more familiar with the routines that we did and which meant I could execute the moves better as I knew what move would come next. My zumba instructor knew that I enjoyed dance as well and she encouraged me to lead a few of my own routines. At first, I was not confident enough to lead a song because I felt that I wouldn’t have enough energy and hype to lead a session but then she assured me multiple times that I would do well. The thing that truly motivated me to lead a session was that another girl in our cca also led some of her own routines during the cca. With encouragement from my friends and instructor, I decided to teach a routine for 2 songs.
The songs that I had chosen to do were Beyonce - end of time and Dua Lipa - Kiss and Makeup. I found a routine online for Dua Lipa’s song that I really enjoyed which I decided to teach the other girls in the cca. For Beyonce’s song, I decided to create my own choreography. I took inspiration from the original choreography for the song and decided to alter it so the choreography can be more suitable for zumba.
I found that choreographing a zumba routine was really a simplified thought process of choreographing a dance routine. They both share similarities as in both cases you try to choreographing to fit the beat of the music however in zumba, you tend to repeat the same moves a lot more often as you want people to follow along to the dance more easily. Furthermore, I found that zumba uses a lot more dynamic movements and exercises. The other difference is that you teach the routine whilst you are doing it in zumba and for dance routines, you teach it beforehand.

International Day Performance 31/10/2018
For international day, 10 people from OGROOKIES decided to perform for the lunchtime international festival during International Day. We decided to cover a dance from a kpop group called NCT.
This is the link to the dance we covered:

We decided to cover this as we believed that it would showcase our skills but also challenge us to perform a group peformance, which many of them had not done before. In my opinion, group names are much more difficult, as it requires all of us to be in sync or else it looks messy. Though we mainly covered this danced, we changed many aspects of it to simplify it for those who were new to dance and also to show aspects of the dance which we are performing for the end of year performance.
Preperations for the dance were difficult to organise as we did not want these to coincide with our CCA time slots as we wanted to use those to focus on the whole group performance. Because of this, we practiced every lunchtime for 2 weeks for around 45 minutes. It was difficult as many of us had other commitments at lunch and we were able to pull through with a good performance, even though the area we were dancing in was quite small.
Though I believe we were able to perform well, I think we could have improved in terms of sync for the dance. To improve this, I want to practice more whilst facing away from the mirror so that everyone is not reliant on looking at everyone else during the dance.

High School Musical Audition 10/11/2018
Today it was the auditions for the school musical which, this year, is High School Musical. I was really nervous for the auditions because I have not been in a musical in a long time and I was unsure whether I would be able to do it. However, I still decided to go for it seeing as it is one of my last years to do it.
The singing portion of the audition was what I was most nervous about as my vocal range is quite restricted and my voice is quite soft. It was really fun because I was reminded about all the different vocal practices there were and shown that I was not alone as many others were also nervous.
The part I was most excited for was the dance part of the audition because that was the main reason I wanted to join, to be able to dance on stage. I was able to learn the movements quickly and help others so I felt proud of myself.
Overall, it was a nice experiences and I was able to meet a lot of people through it, especially those from the younger years as integration with them does not happen often. I am really excited to start preparing for the musical and I really hope that everyone is able to work as a team to make it the best it can be.
