Seen a couple other people do this, so, here are some recommendations for replacements for Wilbur's music and Lovejoy!
Crywank -> indie folk punk with lots of acoustic guitar with descriptions of paranoia, depression and a lot of dry humour.
Los Campesinos -> indie rock and indie pop! For their older music, they implement more 'emo' lyrics, but overall they have really good lyricism (you might have already heard them from Lovejoy's cover of Knee Deep At ATP!)
Arctic Monkeys -> literally what Lovejoy wanted to be. They come under almost every subsection of rock ever, and have the tendency to have absolutely stupendous bass lines.
Cavetown -> similar indie vibe to Wilbur's old music!
The Backseat Lovers -> alternate rock with intense and emotional lyrics! You may have heard of them from 'Kilby Girl' from their 2019 album 'When We Were Friends'
James Marriott -> obvious choice! As a prev Lovejoy fan, I can tell all of you you'd really anjoy his music.
Together Pangea -> typically fast paced, garage pop, or whatever you want to call it. They also have a small US tour happening soon!
Half·Alive -> you may have heard them from 'Creature' from their album 'Now, not yet'. I highly recommend these guys; very lyrical and have an insanely beautiful mix of jazz, rock and pop.
The Frights -> another indie rock/pop band! Has some really fast paced stuff, and some calmer acoustic stuff.
I've seen a lot of people saying 'seperate the art from the artist!' but, full honesty, go listen to new music! I can't take back the emotional attachment I had to his old music, especially YCMGA, but listening to his shit gives him money, and there is no way I'm giving money to an abuser. Let alone, it's become glaringly obvious that the e-girl trilogy isn't a persona, that was just him. Let alone the theme of Your Sister Was Right.
Plus, he's said multiple times that the money and the fame was all he cared about; he would disappear for months and, when he wanted attention and money, would come back to a dedicated fan-base who gave him exactly what he wanted.
Go listen to new music, and support Shelby lads <3

Seen some people talking about Lovejoy and Wilbur Soot’s music and feeling very upset about letting go of those songs since they brought a lot of comfort and joy.
I’m not gonna tell you what you should and shouldn’t do. I think it’s ultimately up to you to decide if you want to continue listening to Wilbur’s music or not. What I am gonna do is list some alternative artists that I either think have similar vibes or I know Wilbur / Lovejoy had cited as inspirations so you guys can find some new tunes without stepping too far out of you comfort zone.
(Also feel free to tag on and add your own suggestions as well, the more the merrier)
Lovejoy
Arctic Monkeys — when Wilbur started the band he claimed he wanted to be like the Arctic Monkeys one day. I’ve also described a lot of their later music as being very similar to Arctic Monkeys, so if you like Wake Up and It’s over and Normal People Things then you’d love them
Los Campansino’s — Wilbur has stated before that this is his favourite band so.. very likely big inspiration for his music. Lovejoy did a cover of Knee Deep at ATP, their version is a bit more chill than the original. I’m a big Los Campansino’s fan honestly, but for stuff Lovejoy related I’ve say the albums “Sick Scenes” and “Romance Is Boring” would have the most appeal.
Wet Leg — just a good band that I think has a similar vibe, especially with themes and funky tunes. Also I’ve seen Wilbur list them in his personal playlists before so he enjoys them as well
Good Kid — not a personal favourite of mine, but their songs have similar vibes and they toured with Lovejoy as well so Lovejoy enjoy their music.
James Marriot — (editing Kaz here.. not gonna change the phrasing of this part but I’ve been told James Marriott has unfollowed Wilbur on Twitter) friend of Wilbur’s (do with that information as you will) excellent musician and would heartily recommend his music if you haven’t listened already. Also worked very closely with the band before, especially in the early days so I wouldn’t doubt they’ve influenced each others music quite a bit
MSR and YCGMA
100gecs and other hyperpop artists — admittedly not a genre I listen to a lot, but if you liked Dropshipped Cat Shirt, especially the ending, then you’ll vibe with this genre a lot.
Jack Stauber — Wilbur’s been a longtime fan of his music, it’s a bit weird and silly on a surface level but nice and miserable as well. If you like MSR I’d recommend.
Crywank — helped Wilbur with producing MSR, plus I think Wilbur took some heavy inspiration from them as well. If you like miserable music you’ll love Crywank. (Also Lovejoy did a cover of privately owned, so if you liked that go check out the original)
More Los Campansino’s — ok.. I’m repeating bands now, but I’m recommending different albums this time! “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed” “Hello Sadness” and “No Blues”
Peach Pit — again, not a favourite of mine but they have nice chill vibes and the songs I’ve listened to are just as miserable as these albums.
Beabadoobee — once again, not someone I listen to a lot, but definitely got the same chill acoustic music as YCGMA especially, Lovejoy had done a cover of The Perfect Pair so if you liked that, and you like these albums you’d like beabadoobee.
E-girl Trilogy / comedy music
Bo Burnham — another favourite artist of Wilbur’s, someone else he’s cited as an inspiration and top tier comedy tunes! If you like Wilbur’s sadder music as well you’d definitely enjoy Inside. Otherwise his older music is great and very fun!
Lemon Demon — probably not an inspiration for Wilbur’s comedy music, but he’s definitely listened to it, it’s very fun and silly, also Ranboo highly recommends (as do I)
Other recommendations
Modern Baseball — found this band through Wilbur’s recommendations, they’re very fun and cool. Very Midwest emo, a genre that I think inspired MSR.
The Front Bottoms.. but with a warning — so I’m not super familiar with the story, but from memory a former member abused a fan, they aren’t apart of the band anymore but the current members handled the situation very poorly. This was another favourite band of Wilbur’s and I get why, very emotional and angsty. I find their lyrics hit a bit harder than Modern Baseball’s but they make very similar music.
AJJ — kinda similar to Crywank, another band I found through Wilbur’s recommendation.
Radiohead / the smiths / the cure / the strokes / just 70’s and 80’s alt rock bands — Wilbur definitely enjoys this music and took inspiration here and they’re all very cool and fun. I’m not super familiar with these bands but I know a lot from this time have good old controversies so be mindful of that, but yeahhh good music!
I don’t know how but the found me — alt/indie rock band with very fun tunes! Sits alongside Wilbur’s comedy music and Lovejoy in my playlists a lot of the times so.. if you like those two you’d probably like this band :) also Dallon Weekes deserves all the love in the world, all his former bandmates (Brendon Urie and Ryan Seaman) keep fucking him over.
Cavetown — not sadboy acoustic like YCGMA but very chill and good acoustic tunes nonetheless. Also a bit similar to Beabadoobee so if you like that you’ll like this :) oh also, i know a lot of people liked Lovejoy cos they gave off a lot of aromantic vibes, Cavetown is openly Aro / Ace so.. lots of aro vibes in his music :D
Yotam Perel — Wilbur used his music in the background of his streams, typically the album "Nice Snakes" but he used "A Long List of Short Songs" as well. It's great background music honestly, some songs have entered my top 100 playlists on spotify, but yeah, if you liked the funky tunes in the back of the geoguessr streams, this is what he played

Gь Eating Gь While Listening to Gь by Crywank but it’s s.t.a.l.k.e.r
Found an old video of myself playing Gь Eating Gь While Listening to Gь (it was the first song I learned on guitar), and edited some of it to sound like a s.t.a.l.k.e.r ost.
also fire is really fun to animate. it would be great if I could animate it not badly
if people like this maybe i’ll do a full cover at some point :]

From all the posts going around of what other bands to listen to rather than Wilbur and Lovejoy, there's a few that I'm surprised I haven't seen:
Pat the Bunny and his other projects Wingnut Dishwashers Union, Ramshackle Glory, and Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains - the epitome of folk punk, a genre that Will was obviously into and inspired by considering he covered a few songs from Pat
I'm not a good person
I'm going home
Whiskey is my kind of lullaby
Your heart is a muscle -> the first song I typically recommend
More about alcoholism
Urine speaks louder than words -> the cover wil did of this is how i found him
Never trust a man who (who plays guitar)
Crywank - another band that was inspo for both the solo albums and Lovejoy, AND another folk punk staple, one of the few I can think of off the top of my head that's british
Welcome to castle irwell
Its ok i wouldn't remember me either
Song for a guilty sadist
Memento Mori
AJJ - especially People Who Can People album
Back Pack
People ii 2: Still Peoplin'
Brave as a noun
Bad bad things
Days N' Daze, Mischief Brew, and Defiance, Ohio are also great folk punk bands that are in the same vein as the ones mentioned above.
misanthropic drunken loner
little blue pills
oh, susquehanna!
roll me through the gates of hell
coffee, god, and cigarettes,
olde tyme mem'ry
I will say, while I could hear the definite influences these bands and genre had on his solo stuff, YCGMA and MSR always struck me as a more tamed version made more palatable for the masses, so while the themes, overall sound, and inspo is all there, I can't guarantee that it's a vibe for everyone
Ren - while not the same genre by any means, I think the vibe could def be appreciated, and if you like up-and-coming artists who've originated on youtube, check him out
Frank Turner - british artist who also makes music that I would considered the marketable version of folk-punk. more positive vibes than others in the scene
Get better
I still believe
I knew prufrock before he got famous
The Libertines - more for those who like Lovejoy. this band has been around for a while, and they've never stopped being insane about eachother. GREAT music, one of my favs tbh, and classic brit-indie 2000s which is what Lovejoy reminded me of.
Can't stand me now -> prob their most known song
The good old days
What a waster
What became of the likely lads
Gunga Din
Sorority Noise
Blonde hair, black lungs
Using
Art school wannabe
Kimya Dawson - if you're looking for something woman-based, she's for you. In the vein of the folk-punk scene (she's actually anti-folk), her and her band Moldy Peaches have been in soundtracks like Juno
So nice, so smart
The beer -> one of the ultimate songs imo
loose lips

if you don’t think the name is weird u should listen because i LOVE crywank. mostly sad music but MAN are they good. also a lot of their stuff even if it is sad is like fun and groovy too. at least in my opinion (my opinion is probably off maybe idk) i be dancing to it was a swift not a swallow.
kind of awkward when someone says “what kind of music do you listen to?” and i go through my top few artists and have to decide if i should say crywank. somehow even more awkward when they don’t know them but DONT say “what kind of a name is crywank” like please u gotta tell me if you think i’m really fucking weird now.
also my expectation is that not a lot of people will know them. not like they’re incredibly unpopular or anything but just like ,,, in my head more poeple know of them and then i mention them to people and they think i’m crazy bevause what the fuck is crywank. or maybe it’s all in my head and people don’t care about the name that much . but i have gotten “ ,,oh” a few times. anyway i’m going to shut up now this is a poll account not a talk about crywank account. maybe i will make a talk about crywank account.
- if you want to submit a poll, you can on my blog! any and all suggestions are appreciated :)
especially if you have pride related suggestions for pride month!

"All art is political" is the creativity killer. Don't let that bitch trick you into thinking you have to have a statement in your art or writing. Art and writing and music =/= inherently political. Thinking that every piece is, is very dumb.
Eminem and Lil Darkie making songs about politics and drugs is different from Freddie Dredd making songs about killing people is different from Tool making songs about addiction and trauma is different from $uicideBoy$ making songs about addiction and suicide is different from Haken making songs about. Whatever the ffuck their songs are about. Is different from Crywank making songs about being depressed is different from Gorillaz making songs about society and/ whatever the ffuck Captain Chicken is about.
Ok. So. I listen to music about violence a lot. Huh. Anyway.
Porn art is not political. Hentai is not political.
I Hate Fairyland is a comic with cartoon gore satire about childish fairytale tropes and also a story about longing to grow up. Black Butler is a gothic dark manga about a child being thrust into a world of crime and choosing to commit down that path. They're both different in tone and execution and they both ROCK.
American Psycho is a satire on yuppie stock market men and vanity in 90s as well as a story about a mentally unstable man killing people and becoming more mentally unstable the more he tries to be normal. That is. Political. But it's moreso a commentary on society, rather than an overt political message.
Like there's a difference between drawing a character who is punk and drawing a character who is "punk" in the way hardcore leftists think of it as. There's a difference between art of girls kissing to "make misogynists mad" or whatever and making art of girls kissing because you like to draw girls kissing. There's a difference between racebending a character to "fix" them or "make racists mad" and racebending a character to see how they'd look as a different race.
"All art is political" is stupid, because someone drawing gore art of anime girls or someone drawing a shota getting his ass pounded is not in fact political.
You don't have to have characters saying "SCREW TRUMP" or "VOTE DEMOCRAT" you can just have them saying "man I want some dick" or "this weed sucks you gave me bad weed I'm not even slightly high I need to kill you." You don't have to have characters saying "TRANS RIGHTS" but you do need to have them saying "kill TERFs, every single transphobe and radfem needs to die."
Draw shota porn. Draw anime girl gore. Draw dudes with top surgery scars and tdicks. Draw girls with big tits and even bigger dicks. But don't claim it's activism. Because it's not. It's ok. You can draw trans characters without making it a statement.
Can art be political? Yes. Should all art be viewed from a political or ideological lens? No, and ffuck off with that shit.

My playlist as QSMP
(warning im shit at english lang so my interpretation of songs may be way off... im also ace and often miss romantic implication so.. yeah if a song has lyrics which are like about an s/o and i havent specified i probably dont mean for it to be shipping)
songs included: tongues & teeth (the crane wives), pink in the night (mitski), gb eating gb whilst listening to gb (crywank), going to brighton (fresh)
TONGUES & TEETH - The Crane Wives hideduo fit pov fit as a self serving survivalist from a wasteland experiencing love in this cursed fuckin island • "ive grown a mouth so sharp and cruel its all that i can give to you my dear" habits from 2b2t even little things like his lack of trust, hasnt confided his true intentions to anyone - constant lies by omission - hes flawed and hes recognised it • "if you're fine with that you can be mine like that" theres very much something going on with hideduo but fit is insistent on his baby steps bc he doesnt want to hurt pac. 'are you fine with that?' • "you gotta know that this wont last" this is soooo fit coded bffr. i adored the conversations fit n ramon had but one thing that stuck out to me was that he would always specify that only he and ramon would escape. never mentioned anyone else. selfish in the most understandable way • "i will ruin you, its a habit i cant help it" again 2b2t ingrained habits that never leave. linked w above point, hes selfish and that isnt necessarily a bad thing just not great for a blossoming relationship • "i will love u like the ashes in my cigarette box" hc 2b2t!fit smoked - ramon told him off once but now that the baby's gone hes picked it up again, a headcanon bc i cannot imagine ccfit smoking since hes such a health buff - feels so out of character lmao strong thoughts about qfit no one even try to fight me - his entire character occupies a space in my brain PINK IN THE NIGHT - Mitski phissa missa pov devotion easy • "i love you, i love you, i love you, i love you" • "can i try again and again and again" i dont think i need to say more - tbh this could go for guapoduo too but the "can i try again" made me think of missa + how he wants to live up to phils expectations
GB EATING GB WHILST LISTENING TO GB - Crywank phissa still missa pov
"in a busy room youre all i see" literally THEM sorry during the mexican independence event they were literally all they could see.. them doing the dance together - it may as well have just been the 2 of them + phil jumping in front of missa to take pics of him alone w/o him noticing
"calm down dont let her see how fast your heart is beating" missa saying "im speaking weird so the translator doesnt pick up, i love you" THIS GUYYYYYYYY
"i think about you but i know im not good enough" bffr mr missa "ill come back when im a good enough father" sinfonia
"and I built you up to much, now I can't say what's on my mind in case I go and scare you away" missa doesnt want to burden phil because he feels like hes been such a bad father compared to phils dedication - now that hes back he doesnt want to disappoint him anymore
"and how could i compete with the world at your feet" missa coming back to like 3 men at phils whim LMAO
"i wouldn't want to hurt you by letting you hurt me you don't deserve to feel guilty"
"i just want you in my life"
sorry im so obsessed with their puppy love GOING TO BRIGHTON - Fresh tubbo coded, i mean with the name i had to give it to him in my mind hes talkin to phil • "things i care the most about dont seem to ever get old" his excitement over everything even the simplest things is so refreshing • "i feel the fire inside me trains passing over head" his determination posing a unique threat to the feds and i feel like its such an important part of his character. also he likes trains :) • "there are things i learnt inside my head that they cant ever take away from me" lil bugs and just knowledge of the game make him a great bug tester for the admins lmao. this guy takes any chance to glitch his way through life
"starting over is a sign of strength"
also honorary mention to that one person who said the garden was codebreakerduo coded because you are so right and true and based and i think of that post everytime i listen to that song. being so normal by peach pit was very celltw (is that what pac and cellbit are called?) to me but i didnt really have much reasoning

vgilantee's 800 follower celebration
Tumblr media
this was originally going to be a celebration for my 22nd birthday, but y'all instead decided to follow me and my chaos, and now it's an 800 follower celebration instead. a couple of these i did steal from sav's 1k celebration, but in my defence they were very good ideas and i adore her
(i will still be doing a birthday celebration on my brain in mid-april if you wanna participate in that one too, and my birthday will fall in the middle of this one)
this will be running from the 27th of march to the 23rd of april, so it'l l be a 4 week long event! asks can be sent in prior, but won't be answered until the celebration begins!
Tumblr media
solar flares ~ question time. cast your mutuals, fmk, this or that, would you rather, etc. these can be on any topic/fandom and the etc really covers any ask game!
supernova ~ top 3. give me a topic! any topic! and i will list my top three things within it
saturn's rings ~ playlist shuffle/song association. send me a character and i will tell you what three songs i associate with them!
nebula ~ rank it. send a character and i'll rank them on the scale {who? || not my type || totally fucks || um, yes || crushed || crushing || love of my life} or send me a fandom/aesthetic and i'll rank them on the scale {no, never || not a fan || it's okay || can get behind || like it || love it || absolute favourite}
constellations ~ moodboards. send me a character from my masterlist and a trope or aesthetic, and i'll make a moodboard
spiral galaxy ~ ship. send a small paragraph about yourself and one of the fandoms listed in my masterlist (preferably Avatar, Bridgerton, DC/DCEU, MCU, Scream V/VI, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but that being said, it can indeed be any) for a ship (i'm also open to do ships from stranger things even though i haven't written for it yet). please specify your preferred gender. the characters that can be ship results may not be ones that i've written for
black hole ~ mini blurb. send me a concept or thought for any characters within the fandoms in my masterlist and i'll expand on it in a blurb! (can be sfw or nsfw)
Tumblr media
the t's and c's (and other important notes):
i will check for minors requesting and interacting with nsfw posts.
i don't have to have the character listed in a masterlist for you to send asks for them! just as long as they are in one of the fandoms i write for. that being said, you can always send an ask for another fandom that isn't listed, because i will likely write for it and just haven't yet!
moodboards and ships may take a little longer to get out, especially with uni happening, but i will do my best to get them done decently quickly!
when typing spiral galaxy, my brain started playing "privately owned spiral galaxy" by crywank but covered by lovejoy. you should listen to both versions.
Tumblr media
tagging mutuals (who are undoubtedly sick of me /lh): @wanturvideo @websterss @jangofctts. and new moot @astrxq!
(i made the banner before i decided on a theme for the headings, and i ended up doing space themed but it's too little too late to change the banner because i'm lazy lmao)
all asks related to this celebration can be seen in the first tag!
