oh god. okay. I don’t talk about Lance’s middle school phase. I’ve talked about his papi chulo phase in high school, and i contemplated that maybe he was a chongo in middle school. however, a dear horrible friend of mine ( @lanzazul ) made me realize that lance would not have been a chongo at all. in fact, the transition from chongo to papi chulo doesn’t make much sense. which gave me a strong scream worthy realization. 

lance was a weeb. there’s literally no other way to put it. he did it all. he watched naruto religiously, traded pokemon balls, probably had yu-gi-oh battles on the playground, reinacted Goku’s scream in the middle of the hallways and ran away. he was just a DORK. no he didn’t do the waifu stuff, but he just really dug japanese anime in the first two years or so of middle school. he would just spend hours with his friends watching anime and playing after. even if he was a nerd, he was always a very sweet kid. aside for his love of anime, he liked his video games, loved spontaneous nerf gun wars, loved harassing his older brothers and sisters and force them to play with him. he was always a good noodle. 

when he got to eighth grade tho, he started noticing pretty people more. when he realized he couldn’t exactly impress the ladies and hombres with his extensive pokemon card trading collection, he began to look at his older siblings and see what THEY did. by the time Lance got to high school, he was a legit model  papi chulo.

let’s be frank. lance is a generous, considerate and passionate lover. cliche but true. I don’t mean just in the carnal sense either, I’m talking about the emotional things too. lance gives everything in a relationship, even he’s only one even trying. this is one of the reasons lance always ends up with a broken heart again and again. especially now that he’s young, lance falls for the timeless mistake of falling in love with the idea of the person before knowing the person, which of course leaves him wondering what went wrong. this is why I once wrote that while Lance may have an idea of what he wants in a partner, what he needs usually come in a very different form. 

if it takes lance longer to find love however, I think with age comes wisdom. while he will always appreciate a pretty face, he’ll be better at finding the signs that a possible relationship with someone will go nowhere. he’ll be more guarded and careful, wary of being so transparent so quickly; but it will only take one single genuine gesture to let lance let his heart fall.

okay this is straightforward. lance loves kids. loves being an uncle, loves being a godfather, and would LOV E to be a father one day. Lance is free and fun loving now, and many people I think underestimate how responsible he can be when the situation calls for it. while they were hesitant at first, Lance’s older brothers and sisters actually trust Lance with their kids. there is no one else they would leave them with except for their gramma, and the kids ADORE Lance to bits as much as he adores them. he has the energy to keep them entertained and happy, while also has the critical eye to make sure they’re careful and can put his foot down if they start to fight. he sticks to the schedule when they need one, and is sure to actually feed them REAL food ( yes he makes them eat their veggies). when his nieces or nephews are left with him, lance goes all out for them, and there’s no doubt in my mind that Lance as a father would give his very life for them. 

as he’s with voltron now, he misses his little kids, he misses their silliness and their innocence, misses their blunt and hurtful observations, just misses the feeling of someone looking at HIM like he’s their hero. sometimes, lance thinks they’re the only people who will ever see something worthy in him.

Lance REALLY in love is like everything you would imagine. Laughs a little louder, stares a little longer, finds every excuse to be closer, picking up things that remind him of that person, if they ever mentioned something they liked Lance would immediately go and buy it for them, manages to make everything sappy as fuck, will literally get distracted in the middle of kissing them because wow has he mentioned how pretty they are??? 

Lance would be the biggest, sappiest, idiot in love.

But Lance feeling like it should have been HIM, not Shiro. Shiro was their leader, their head, the calm in the storm, their inspiration and hope. Lance believing he was the expendable one. Why did the universe take Shiro when its LANCE whos needed the least. Why did it take someone they needed the MOST?

I am now thinking about hype man Lance and his support and loyalty  and voice of reason for Black Paladin Keith because he couldn’t be that support for Shiro and he sure as hell won’t let Keith be alone in this responsibility please TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS??
