thank you so much for that analysis of itachi not being retconned!! to give kishimoto credit, writing a weekly installment series that went on for far longer than he ever thought it would (although as fellow writers we can probably imagine he had hopes and dreams for being able to write as long as possible), is really really difficult, but also people sometimes see explaining further down the line and call it retconning, when really it's just expanding things that many readers haven't paid much attention to before. I've been trying to find evidence to this question for ages so thank you so much for laying it out! now i have an amazing reference sheet in the form of your post 😁. Kishimoto did a really good job in my opinion of laying out such a long-game character and we are blessed to have itachi with all his flaws and humanity as a result.

I lose a part of my braincells every time I read people go "But he was meant to be evil from the start/ Kishimoto retconned him" as if all the glaring evidences aren't already available in manga. Kishimoto writes him with much more softness than the anime, that misses the moments occasionally.

This, for example, doesn't look like the face of someone who was hurting Sasuke because he was having fun. It's pain written all over his face.

Someone on Twitter pointed it out. When Sasuke enters his house and spots Itachi, his mouth is trembling and it's like he's crying.

From the narrative point of view to his expressions in manga, Kishimoto does a great job at establishing there's more to him than we know. In the anime too, Kisame says Itachi avoids fighting a lot, like he did against Jiraiya and other Konoha Shinobi.

A lot of people have created lies over lies about him and keep sharing it in abundance to show how "evil" he is and his fans are depraved people. When, in truth, it's them who are incapable of comprehending a morally ambiguous character with his flaws. I would accept half of the rage against him if Naruto was set in a gentler and kinder world and Itachi had more choice and freedom, which is not true.

Anyway, every time people come up with "he was meant to be a bad guy from the start" nonsense, I know they've missed the point, and basically comprehension skills for them are zilch.

But you are right, I am not as invested in MHA, because it just doesn't have the versatility and genius of Naruto and Shippuden, it is actually quite a straightforward story and I don't need to burn a lot of my braincells to 'get it'. Lol. I am not saying it's bad, but as compared to its contemporary mangas, it just isn't at par for my tastes. It's good for entertainment but it doesn't affect me like other mangas that it takes inspiration from. Some silly shipper telling me I can't read, I would tell you my credentials but nah, too much work for disproving silly ass headcanons.

Fans make comparisons between Naruto and BNHA because Horikoshi is inspired by Kishimoto, definitely some similarities are there, but it misses on the most crucial point. Naruto and Shippuden are love stories. BNHA is simply your typical shounen manga. Naruto and Shippuden use the narrative tool of subversion to tell a love story in the restrictive genre of shounen. It has multiple layers and you need presence of mind to see them. Naruto is gay and you see comphet in his character, his interest in Sakura looks superficial from the beginning and then in kage arc, it is concluded as a mere cover to run from confronting his dilemma, and closetedness. His character is consistently shown as having an internal fight, a dilemma. Sasuke is just on your face, he is clearly shown as having no interest in women, but with Naruto he is especially intimate on his own accord. Ya know, using random panels ain't gonna help, you need to establish it in the narrative. Headcanons are all nice to entertain when that's all you watch media for, shipping. But please to be showing more maturity and media comprehension when sending me an ask, I am not very sympathetic to gaslighters whose heads are filled with shippy shit and cheap self gratification. When I talk Naruto, I make comparisons with other clearly gay media, and point out the common tropes, it's a result of expansive research. Not just random panels that prove nothing. Little one, you need more than that to prove your theories. I have watched a wide range of media, including gay media, your ask is just representative of your ignorance and lack of knowledge about how storytelling and character building works. Heh. Or do you think BNHA has its own concept of homosexuality, its own private language that cannot be compared with how other media establishes homosexuality in a given universe? Yeah, solipsistic ideas like that cannot be taken seriously.

Conformity is one of the pillars Japanese society is built upon, so it's not surprising that Japanese media talks upon how anything that doesn't conform to the norms is rejected. Their media is representative of their society. Mha also touches upon that and there's no surprises there, but again, you need more than that to prove it in the course of plot building and narrative. Some random out of context panel about some character saying something about conformity proves your point? You need to SHOW it and not just tell. But where other mangas, great mangas, popular and critically well acclaimed mangas have explored this idea in detail, MHA is just touch and go. It doesn't entertain a balanced proper discourse on it. It is truly shounen in that sense. Again, I am not saying it is bad, it is just more age appropriate. Which is totally fine. Do you know how heteronormativity is established in the narrative? Like this. Show me where this happens in MHA. Lol. Sweetheart, if the writer had made any attempt to write this world as heteronormative, where gay characters face challenges, I would have seen it. But mha is just not that deep. Sorry to burst your bubble. But that's just a fact.

Seriously, you are going to give me the example of Toga? I haven't gone through the recent chapters yet. I have only watched the anime. But it is clear that, that girl is medically insane. Her idea of liking someone is to kill that person and drink their blood, for her own pleasure. She ain't a homosexual, more like hemosexual. Hahaha. Again, you gotta show me the trajectory of her character, start with the base and show me how it escalates, how does she learn better about herself, her own feelings, the world from her perspective. No character is isolated, any writer who is talented enough to write multimillion franchise knows that. Don't project your assumptions on the story and the characters, work with what you have and draw the meaning from what's given, not the other way round.

There is no doubt Izuku and Bakugou have a strong relationship, even if it is mostly rivalry. But one can see that Bakugou cares about Deku and vice versa. Before telling me how to read, perhaps you should have done it yourself. Lol, I see this type of behaviour a lot from typical silly shippy shippers. "What, did you just say my ship makes no sense? 🤬"

Do you even know what subtext or text is? Hahah. This is text and subtext. So just because Bakugou and Deku talk about their rivalry in their vulnerable moments, that the audience knows as congruent since we have already seen they have a hot and cold relationship but that they are friends nonetheless, that proves they love each other romantically? You obviously don't know how romance tropes work. The dynamic between two men who respect and admire each other is always shown with a lot of empathy in Japanese media. It is one of the founding pillars of shounen, a genre meant for teenaged boys. They are certainly closer to each other than they are with women they are interested in, but a lot of fans such as yourself misinterpret it as romantic, because headcanon goggles. No, you gotta have more than that. Where Naruto and Shippuden have it in truckloads, none of that in BNHA. Deku is heterosexual af. If he is so interested in Bakugou, how come he reacts the way he reacts to Uraraka? Where is his conflict? Where is his dilemma? His affection and romantic interest in Uraraka is genuine and sincere, not a cover to hide his more private feelings. Unlike in Naruto's case. Kishi uses clever narrative tricks and tools to tell his love story in shounen and he does it skillfully. His motives and intentions are clear as water. He uses inventive smokescreens and red herrings to escape from being too controversial and colour inside the borders of shounen, nothing like that in BNHA. To begin with, Horikoshi doesn't even delve into the sexualities of his characters, because his story is not about that. There's no context, no set up, nothing. His worldbuilding is simply conventional, by which I mean heteronormative, there's no talk about sexual orientation of characters. You see the usual shounen perviness by Mineta and Kaminari and typical straight girls going kawaai over good looking boys like Todoroki, what impression does that give? If Horikoshi wanted to establish his characters being gay, he would have set up the context mindfully and carefully, like Kishi did. Gay relationships and characters can't be shown so explicitly in shounen as that would jeopardize its distribution in the west. Reason? Censorship. That's why Kishi had to be so careful, his target audience might not get it, but the adults do. Well, unbiased adults do, at the very least. So the boys in bnha are gay just because? Because you want them to be? Storytelling and character building doesn't work like that.

Seriously everything you think works as 'analysis' isn't even valid. I honestly didn't even want to respond to this ask, given it's so surface level and ridiculously simple minded. Perhaps you are a tween or teen who thinks every time two boys or girls smile at each other or rescue each other, they are gay and in love. Lol, watch gay media. Personality I'll like to see a psychological effect that being kidnapped will have on mc/the darling, for example the closest people to mc are ace and deuce so if they betrayed them and make them lose their only way home mc will be absolutely shattered, because these were people they thought they can trust.

That would actually be so horrifying for darling because you wouldn't expect that sort of behavior from the duo who are notorious for sharing one braincell. There's no way they'd ever be able to plan an elaborate scheme to kidnap and confine you, right? They aren't suspicious enough for that, unlike some students who seem like it's something they might do and could be capable of smoothly accomplishing. But certainly not harmless, sweet Deuce and (mostly) harmless, silly Ace. They are your closest friends—best friends by Deuce's standards—so they wouldn't go so far as to keep you all to themselves, far from anyone else, right?

They would. They absolutely would, and it's Ace who twists it so that it sounds well and good, ever sly with his wording. Deuce is apprehensive about it; he doesn't want to hurt, upset, or disturb you. He wants to stay close friends. Doing this sort of thing is very wrong—morally and legally—especially since it's his dream to become a police officer. This goes against everything a police officer is meant to embody. But with how persistent Ace is, always in his ear about how it really isn't so wrong and how it's nothing compared to what some of their peers have done (just remember how all of the Overblots were way more dangerous and deadly than just two innocent students wanting to protect their friend)! That's how Ace frames it; it's not kidnapping. It's protection. You, a magic-less student from another world, versus a bunch of no-good, skillful mages with secret agendas. Obviously someone has to be there to look out for you, and that someone is going to be Ace and Deuce.

Ace doesn't sugarcoat anything. He's blunt about the ordeal. You're probably going to cry; you might try to fight back or escape. You definitely won't be able to trust either of them after this, but it's for your own good. He poses a single question to Deuce when Deuce starts to worry in the days leading up to their plan: Would you rather (Name) get hurt or would you rather be able to protect them all the time? The answer is obvious.

Sam never questions their suspicious purchases (they're paying customers, after all! Who is he to interrogate?), but their fellow friends and classmates do wonder why Ace and Deuce are so focused on saving up their allowances to afford specific things from the Mystery Shop. Though no one questions nearly enough because it allows the two of them to succeed in their plan—something that's been in the works for months. They even had to plan what they'll say when people start looking so that their stories and excuses would sound realistic and guiltless.

The guilt chews through Deuce, but Ace is always there to remind him that this is the right thing. And, really, who wouldn't believe Ace when he sounds so sincere about it? This is the best course of action, after all.

Among Us AU

That's right I'm going to ramble about this again. Since I've seen a few people starting to post about a Mob Psycho 100 Among Us AU and I'm just going to continue on what I started on a previous post.

So without further adou, I'm going to talk about the characters as Crewmates and as Imposters.

Mob

He usually mains green (I'm basing their colors on their outfits, and Mob's puppy hoodie is my fav) and his hat is the flower.

Almost always a Crewmate

Tends to use the map to finds his tasks, mostly at Polus since ya know it's Polus

Often takes a while in card swiping at Admin

He can finish decently early with his tasks

Usually follows or sticks around people close to him

The others don't really think of it as sus since it's Mob

They all can vouch for his innocence and he does the same to them

Even though he barely talks in meetings

Mob is either the first or third one to die

Miraculously has never been killed in Electrical even if the Imposter is there

But he does usually gets killed in Reactor or Medbay (The Skeld)

In other instances he gets vibe checked in Decontamination or Office (Mira HQ and Polus)

When he gets killed by someone he's close to he's just

Mob : :(

Then follows the others that are still alive around

There was one time someone thought of him as sus since he was following others around

Since everyone (Reigen and the rest were in another Skeld and probably the only person who could vouch for Mob's got nae nae'd early on) was kinda convinced they yeeted him out the airlock

Spoiler Alert : He was not an Imposter

In another time some poor bastard tried to frame him for murder and said bastard was promptly yeeted out of ship

Also, he's almost everyone's go to alibi

People would say he would be a terrible Imposter but I'd think otherwise

Don't get me wrong I don't think he would be a bad or terrible Imposter, I'd say he'd be an okay and decent one

Even though he's almost always a Crewmate it doesn't mean that he's never an Imposter

Tends to team up with his fellow Imposter

But he rarely kills

He mostly sabotages and jams the doors a lot to distract the others

He's good at sabotaging things while his fellow Imposter has a nice body count

Vents when absolutely necessary

Example : Venting to Medbay to be as far away as possible from the body in Lower Engine

Mob still follows people around because he likes being with his friends regardless

The people he's with still vouch for his innocence

He's one of the characters that can make everyone have trust issues against one another

Body Count

Mob : 1

Other Imposter : 3

Mob only kills one person everytime he's an Imposter

The reasoning behind why Mob committed aliven't you may ask? Someone nearly got the whole group to vote out Ritsu for "acting sus"

Now that someone is on his hit list and Mob has a gun

The mentioned body in Lower Engine was that someone's body

It always 50/50 on whether they lose or win

Reigen

He mains as pink (based on his tie but sometimes his color orange or white but that depends) and he wears the "DUM" sticky note on his head. Sometimes he has either the mini crewmates or the cyclops puppy by his side

50% of the time he's a Crewmate

Can and will do his tasks fairly quick

He probably has memorized every map from The Skeld to Polus

Reigen sticks close to others and others stick close to him

You can find him usually with the following Crewmates

Serizawa (😏What if 👬 we 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨 kissed 😄😣in 🏥 MedBay and we're both Crewmates😻👨‍❤️‍👨)

Mob ("Listen Mob there's a trick to completing the wires fast-". Mob was going to say 'Huh, Shishou sure does like to talk wires a lot' but he accidentally electrocuted his hand while connecting one of the wires so it came out as, "Ssshut the fuck up Shishou.", Reigen did his task in silence.)

Teru (Father-Son bonding time in a place where someone is bound to kill you at any given moment :) )

Tome (Father-Daughter bonding time in a place where someone is bound to kill you at any given moment :) )

He's usually the first body you'd find in Electrical aka the Slaughter room

If he's not the first one to go he's immediately the most sus person in the group

He nearly had a premature airlock sendoff if it hadn't been for the skip votes

Acts sus as hell at times

But Serizawa and Mob can say he's clear

He always has his alibis ready when he accidentally splits off of the group

When he's dead he speedruns his tasks to either stay with his pet or follow around the ones still alive

He likes to talk shit about the Imposter that killed him a lot

Minegishi :*staring at the mini crewmate* Who could have done this

Serizawa : *really wants to comfort the little fella but can't* I don't know but what they did was cruel

Reigen❌ : mINEGISHI YOU EYEBROWLESS, PLANT-HATING TWINK YOU SNAPPED MY NECK IN FRONT OF THAT SIMP SHIMAZAKI!

Minegishi : Well, who ever killed Reigen-san we hope they get airlocked soon

Reigen❌ : hoe >:(

Overall, he's just a swell guy to be with in Among Us but he just really fucking sus no matter what

This is where the other 50% is

He's still sus as hell but it's like normal for everyone

Meaning this man can get away with a lot of murder

Like always Ritsu is always ready to vote him out the airlock

He vents a lot and knows when to just stay hidden or to pop out

For all we know Reigen's back is probably aching from carrying the other Imposter

This man has mastered the art of bullshit from working in customer service and perfected it as a conman

His alibis are solid

The strongest alibis he has are the ones with Mob and Serizawa

He sticks close to them a lot

He checks the cameras (The Skeld and Polus) and logs (Mira HQ). Always.

He doesn't have a regular killing place

If you're alone, it's free real estate

Imagine being one of the Crewmates on your way to Electrical from Navigation to fix the lights and then you hear someone trailing behind you. You try to go a bit faster but you can't. You're suddenly on the floor reaching out for someone and the last thing you hear is a gun firing.

Wanna know why Mob gets killed in Reactor? Reigen started it

It was an accident and also a very clean kill

Don't worry though, he suffered a lot of guilt killing his boy, even though after the whole ordeal Mob would be alive again in the lobby

This man has been yeeted out the airlock two times while being Imposter

One time by accidentally venting in front of Tome

And the other time when he and the other Imposter couldn't coordinate with a double kill

All in all, he's a great Imposter that makes you want to screm the you fucking called it at the very damn start

That's all I can ramble for now but I'll be making a part two with Ritsu, Teru, Shou, Tome, and Serizawa. But I might still split them :/

i honestly have no idea why people keep bringing up this idea of bias in judging competitions because, while i do think there is a type of bias that certainly exists, i think a lot of so-called "bias" that people have is ... not whatsoever like what people think it is lol. artists are people and there's always going to be SOME kind of bias no matter what you do, because it's literally fuckin impossible to NOT be biased. by that i mean:

your taste in plots/types of characters/medias influence your judging

quality of writing or art can influence your judging

the person who's applying for the adopt you may have previous judgement about

even if you say you aren't biased, you STILL have preferences and tastes in things that you prefer more than others, which in of itself is a kind of bias

people who know you (friends for example) will naturally know what your taste is. 

a competition is judged based on what form the artist thinks is best, right? 

NEWSFLASH EVERYONE'S IDEA OF "WHAT'S BEST" IS DIFFERENT FROM PERSON TO PERSON ..... "BEST" is literally the most subjective thing there is, and while i agree that there are certain aspects of art and writing that you can use as objective measurements of tangible skill, it's... still subjective. what people think is "best" will vary from person to person because we all have different tastes. so, essentially, this boils down to the idea that the winner of an adopt competition will ALWAYS be the form the artist liked best, because that is what the artist perceives as best. so like. when people appear biased in adopt competitions towards friends or certain circles, it's probably because they're literally friends because they have similar tastes in things, and therefore the form the artist likes best is naturally going to be from someone who shares similar tastes. 

so whenever i hear about """bias""" in competitions i just kind of roll my eyes tbqh because it's usually followed by complaints of "BUT I PUT IN SO MUCH EFFORT" or "I WROTE SO MUCH MORE THAN THE WINNER" uhhhh. if adopt contests were won by effort alone it wouldn't be a contest, it'd be an endurance test lol. literally just "who has the most time to waste writing out 60000k words of absolute meaningless fluff"... because, i hate to break it to you, but ANYONE can write 5000 words of mindless drivel that has literally no substance to it.

THERE IS NO SKILL NEEDED TO BLOAT YOUR WORD COUNT. 

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO WRITE WELL TO WRITE 5000 WORDS.

quality > quantity, always. like, i'm sorry you put in so many hours of effort but, those people who win with MUCH smaller wordcounts... did they not work to get as good as they did with writing? you put in 5 hours into one tryout. but others, take me for example: i have been writing for over 10 bloody years. i've worked hard to improve my writing, so you can't tell me i "didn't put in as much effort" as you because i did. i put in YEARS of work to get better so doing simple things would take me LESS time now. inb4 IT'S UNFAIR! dude, the literal definition of a contest is for the best to win. it wouldn't be a contest if it wasn't like that lol. it'd just be charity. what you should be doing instead of complaining about it is ASKING FOR CRIT and WORKING TO IMPROVE like a good sport? i get that it's discouraging but you should be prepared to lose when you join a contest. it's valid to be upset about but the moment you say you deserve it more than others JUST because of your effort, then i have a problem. 

and you know, there's gonna be times where i think a comp winner is objectively less skilled than other tryouts. honestly i just kind of shrug that off on account of different taste lol. sometimes that's just how it be, bc of those predetermined biases i mentioned before, and maybe a judge and i are just in completely stages of life so what i call quality might not appeal to the judge. that's also fine. anyway this really got off on a tangent but i'm leaving it in bc i think it needs saying. back to the og post

so, yeah, as someone who hasn't spent my entire life on CS (i've only been here for a year and a half), ya'll seem pretty fucking entitled to me lol. the world outside CS rarely gives out such gorgeous designs in write-to-adopt contests so i'm honestly baffled at the amount of bloody entitlement i see

this part i don't actually understand what you mean. do you mean they... help judge other comps? or like, enter them? i don't get what you mean by "weigh in" but listen, lol. just because something DOES happen doesn't mean it gives you a good reason to assume the worst. i mean... of course it happens. it's statistically impossible for skewed contests and bias to NOT happen, because there's always going to be cases of it happening. but like, what proof do you have that merc will be biased lol? like, real proof? because your main point i've basically debunked and don't believe in at all. do better than "i cant bewieve ppl wouldnt want some1 whos literally explicitly stating at this point that they trust their friends more to "demonstrate dedication to the character" they assign to a design to b an influence in judging comps !!!!!11" because this doesn't make any sense to me for the reasons i already listed above lmao. if artist entries were supposed to be contests they'd be contests. what the hell makes you important enough to get first dibs on a stranger's work.
