the only examples ive seen of this is Emesis Blue, Demon - The Descent (due to the mood being sorta 1960s espionage), and, depending how you count it, CONTROL (due to the Oldest House having a technology limit)

Neon Troupe; an introduction to a tf2/overwatch fan game

welcome to the fairly near future… of the 80s! IBM, dotmatrix, disco, and cassette tapes are all the rage. despite lasers, miracle healing, uplifting animals, and more invented; we're still using CRT monitors and everything still groooovyyyyyyy. enter the companies Outlook Resurrection Grant (ORG) and Past Nations re-Kindled (PNK), which are locked into a corporate turf war due to a petty rivalry between workers spiraling way out of control. now enter the Contractors, people of varying stripes all equally (or more so compared to the others) willing to kill and die for a paycheck; and with corporate backing of military hardware, unexplained respawning, and unexplained clones (for the sake of the tone, neither of these will be explained).

if you couldn't tell already, this is basically TF2's excuse plot but set in the 80s, which hopefully we can do something new and original with! this project is inspired by OW2 self-destructing, making me finally deciding to start conceptualizing my idea for a class-based shooter in a similar vein as rivals of aether for platform fighters (more so inspired by tf2 then overwatch) pleaaaaaaase be nice to us; not only are we but two people who haven't designed any games before, but we're also purely doing this out of fun and aren't going to super strictly balance this. even if we're able to actually develop it. also, while we won't confirm any orientations, it'll be a looooooooooot more outwardly queer then either TF2 or OW <3 if that makes you angry, well we aren't creating this for you - Ξλ

(project intro)

The employers and show runners of this turf war! Outlook Resurrection Grant, Past Nations reKindled, and 3rd Rate Directors are the main factions to consider, being megacorps (though 3RD is a "regular" corp) and involved in the Contractor's war.

The Outlook Resurrection Grant - ORG The outlook of the world's future is a bit bleak right now. What with the Cold War, nuclear threat, panopticons, and the occasional out of control robot. So, after the previous megacorps broke up, a bunch of companies resolved to fix it. How so? By buying out other corporations, fraud, and being a Ponzi scheme. Obviously. And so came the Outlook Resurrection Grant, here to save the future with spending the least amount of money possible to somewhat stabilize the Doomsday Clock. They do occasionally work towards their utopic vision of the future they're going for, through R&D, inventing, etc; giving grants and such to other companies. But mostly they just sit on their asses and let their subsidiaries do the work for them.

Past Nations reKindled - PNK Instead of looking towards the future, they look towards the past. In direct rivalry with ORG even before the turf war broke out, they advocate getting a better world by hindsight. Ironically they advocate for industrialism of the 60s, perhaps nostalgia blinded them as to what happened then? In any case just like ORG they rarely advance their goals themselves, letting their smaller parts do it for them. When they do it's usually with philanthropy thinly disguising trying to gain reputation with the disenfranchised.

3rd Rate Directors - 3RD Just behind in third place to ORG and PNK (though, they're are in 1st and 2nd place depending on the day), is the show runners of this war. While most don't pay attention to them due to them "just being some journalism corp", they're the supplies, planners, informants, and spies of the turf war and mostly profiting off of it. Hopefully, for as long as they can. You won't see them in the field besides maybe behind bulletproof glass.
