zolu aroace positivity post!!! because if you're aroace and you celebrate the gift that is zolu, I want to share why they mean so much to me as an aroace.

what makes zolu so special to me is because first and foremost, zoro and luffy went out to the vast open seas of the world to chase after their dreams. luffy wants to be the pirate king, zoro wants to be the best swordsman. even after being recruited, even after all they went through, they never stopped having their dreams as the forefront of their characters. but it just so happens that both their dreams are intertwined with each other, the best swordsman in the world's most fitting place is by being right next to the pirate king, and the pirate king believes that he would reach his goal by having the best by his side.

the reason why I believe zoro and luffy's relationship is so strong is because by fighting for their own dreams, they also strengthen their bond with the other. zoro wants to be strong to be the best swordsman, but it's also to protect the crew and to best support luffy as he guns for the title of pirate king. luffy wants to be strong to be pirate king, but it's also to protect the crew, but also? by being strong, he proves time and time again that his crew did not make the wrong decision to follow him, that he is a Captain that deserves to obtain the one piece (i think of luffy aiming to be strong so that his crew will never have to falter about his leadership, especially after water 7).

as an aroace, this feels like the best way to showcase love and devotion and trust with each other. knowing that someone's dream becomes a part of your own, that every time you fight for yourself and you aim to be a better version of yourself, you're not only working for your own sake but for the better of you and your partner. that i come to love my partner because they understand me, and they know why i fight so hard to reach my goal. and not only that, they fight as equally hard for their own goal. together, both of our dreams ultimately help each other become the best version of ourselves.

knowing that zoro believes in luffy wholeheartedly that he fought for his dream too, enough to put his life on the line for luffy. knowing that luffy can leave his most precious family and crew to zoro because he trusts zoro wholeheartedly to win.

to me, this is how I envision love. it's about getting to know each other, understanding each other, loving each other to the point that their dreams become yours, and fighting together side by side to make that dream come true.

zoro and luffy have that in spades. imo, zoro and luffy's appeal as a relationship is that they are intertwined with each other, and they go through hell and back and fight for each other and their dreams together. it's no wonder that aroace people like me are drawn to them, their love and bond transcends just having an attraction to each other. because it's also about having this person change and inspire me to be better.

Ace x Reader: Why I Stay?

WARNING: SPOILERS

He didn’t want to be here, on the Moby Dick.  He was Portgas D Ace, captain of the Spade Pirates, feared rookie.  But he was not and would never be a member of Whitebeard’s crew.  Well, that was until he met you.  Y/N Newgate, biological daughter of Whitebeard.

He only stayed on the ship to kill Whitebeard and get you to join his crew.  But, eventually a bond was formed between the two young pirates.  Macro called it hormones. Thatch called it infatuation.  Whitebeard called it young love.  Whatever it was, you two had something special.  He would put his hat on you when you were sad.  He did reckless things to make you laugh.  He gave you the heart necklace that you now wear every day.   Eventually, he joined the Whitebeard Pirates.

One night he was standing by the railing, watching the ocean and staring at the extremely starry sky above.  You approached him. “Whatcha thinking about,” you asked looking up at the sky, trying to see if you could understand what he was thinking.  He looked down at you, “a lot actually.” He ran his fingers through his hair.  “Did I ever tell you why I stayed?”  You looked puzzled.

“No.  I figured it was because you were tired of getting your ass handed to you.”

He sighed, staring into your deep E/C eyes.  He reached down and brushed a few strands of your H/L H:C hair out of your face.  “I stay because of you.  And as long as you’re here firefly.  I’ll stay.”

I like the idea that Ace has always had a sort of affiliation or connection to fire well before he got his fruit. He’s seen all sides of fire and all the ways it can be harnessed. From a young age under the bandits care he would watch fire cook his foods. Then when it came to surviving on his own, a fire was probably one of the first things Garp taught Ace and was the first step to his premature independence. Then there were the bond fires shared with his brothers. Shadow puppets shows, bickering fights and laughter so big it made his stomach ache

The grey terminal fires that threatened his and his younger brothers lives. The fires he helped create that almost took the lives of hundreds, that left his and his mother figures skin scarred. The fire that claimed his brother’s boat and killed him just as he set out to sea. He had seen all sides to fire and what it was capable of.

So when Ace ate the flame flame fruit. There was an immediate understanding of the danger his flames held. His flames would not be the same as the ones that ravaged the terminal. His flames would be controlled and protective like the candle light Sabo used to read to Luffy. Like the flames of a bond fire providing warmth and safety. His flames would always protect those he wished to. The spade pirates. Whitebeard. Luffy. He would protect them like a bondfire

Can I pitch in with a defense for Ace that's not actually horny? (There will be spoilers, but I hope that whoever's reading this knew that already.) I'm attracted to him because he's a genuinely great character. Obviously he's incredibly important to the plot. He doesn't even show up in that many chapters or episodes, but he's beloved by the fanbase anyway. All the circumstances around his birth, his cripping insecurity about being worthy of even being alive, and how he toughed it out until he found people who loved him so wholeheartedly that he thought he might have a reason to live after all. The way he bonded with and adopted two brothers. His entire story with the Spade pirates and joining Whitebeard., and the way he found the father he'd wanted his whole life when he did. His enthusiasm in showing everybody and anybody Luffy's wanted poster and going "THAT'S MY LITTLE BROTHER!" with the biggest, proudest, silliest grin on his face. He's stubborn and a narcoleptic and eats almost as much as Luffy. The first time the Straw Hat Pirates met him, every one of them was in awe at what a good guy he was. His fire powers are just plain COOL. His sense of responsibility and the fact that he is in some ways incredibly stupid, but also extremely sweet, has a soft heart, and just wants above all else to be worthy of being loved. And finally the fact that canonically, everybody around him just DOES love him! He's just that kind of guy! ~ Sincerely, someone else who just has a lot of Ace feelings

Guess who’s back to spoiling her own story? It’s me! 

So, I was going to keep this a secret until I got to it naturally in Lucky Break and have been omitting it from all stories happening post Little Garden, but I have finally caved because reading about Ace adopting Kotatsu in Ace’s Story got me thinking “aww this would be such a good bonding point between him and Lucky” so let’s talk about Magnolia!

Magnolia (Maggie for short) is a sabertooth tiger cub that Lucky stumbles across in Little Garden and adopts after seeing that her mother is dead and she’s been left alone. This leads into Lucky finally getting an official title as the Straw Hat’s animal tamer. Magnolia is Lucky’s main means of defense (plus a weapon she gets in literally the next chapter). Granted, Magnolia doesn’t become a huge threat until after the timeskip when she’s much bigger, but even as a cub she’s the size of a medium sized dog so an attack from her still feels like being mauled by an angry german shepard with huge teeth.

Magnolia has a big scar on her left hind leg that happened when her mother was killed by a triceratops. She was launched during the attack and tore her leg open on a tree branch she flew into. After doing some research on what noises sabertooth tigers would have made, I have settled on her sounding similar to a clouded leopard since that’s their closest relative and there aren’t any conclusive studies on their vocalizations. She makes a lot of meowing sounds, screams instead of roars, and chuffs.

As much as I wanted to keep her a surprise until her official debut, I was starting to feel bad about leaving her out of everything.

Now that the explanation is over, here’s a short drabble of Little Lucky and Ace bonding over this. This takes place immediately before What’cha Got There

Ace crouched down and chuckled at the affectionate cub rubbing up against his legs. He extended his arm and scratched behind her ears, eliciting some contented chuffs. The heat that he was constantly giving off was always a big hit with cats, and that appeared to apply to sabertooth tigers as well.

“So this one is yours, huh? What’s her name?” Ace looked up from the feline to see your happy face.

“I named her Magnolia, but I usually just call her Maggie,” you explained proudly, patting Magnolia enthusiastically. 

“Oh yeah? That’s a nice name. She looks awfully happy, you must be taking good care of her.”

You nodded aggressively, “Yeah! I’ve always wanted a kitty and now I’m gonna be the best at keeping her!” Magnolia leaned into your pets happily, chuffing more as she pushed her face into yours, “Isn’t she the sweetest little kitty?”

“Little? She’s almost as big as you!” Ace pinched your cheek as he teased you.

“Yeah, but she’s gonna get way bigger! Maggie’s mama was huge!” Your grin dropped, “I found her next to her mama after she got attacked by something. That’s how she got this, too.” You pointed to the patch of bandages on Magnolia’s thigh. Your arms locked around the feline’s neck, and you brought her in for a hug, “I helped Maggie, but her mama was already dead, so I decided to take her with me.”

Ace smiled fondly as he remembered rescuing a cat himself back in his days as captain of the Spade Pirates. An idea came to mind all of a sudden, “You know, Lucky, I’ve got a cat that I rescued, too.”

Your head snapped in his direction instantly, eyes wide with surprise, “You do?! Where?!”

He chuckled at your enthusiasm, “Easy there, he’s not here right now.”

“Aww,” your shoulders sulked and your lips formed a pout, but it was short lived. Immediately after, you perked back up with a sparkle in your eyes, “Well where is he? Can I meet him? What’s his name? Is he also a sabertooth?”

The rapid fire questions only made him laugh more, “Whoa, whoa, give me a chance to answer! He’s a kind of lynx, I think, and his name is Kotatsu. He’s living it up on my Pop’s ship now, so you’ll have to come visit if you want to meet him.”

“Can Maggie come, too? They could be friends!”

“I don’t see why not. Do you wanna go right now?” A very small part of Ace felt bad for essentially baiting you into coming with him, but was it so bad to want to introduce his newfound niece to his brothers?

His grin widened upon seeing you nod, only for it to stop abruptly. You paused and looked at your feet, “That does sound fun, but I don’t think everyone would let me. They don’t like it when I’m not with them.”

“It’ll be fine, you’ll be with me!” Ace tried to convince you, but you still looked unsure. “How about this: what if I sneak you off the ship so you can visit?”

You weren’t fully on board yet, but you were looking at him inquisitively, “How?”

That was a good question. Ace scratched the back of his head in thought until he got an idea. He stood up and went over to his backpack and rifled through it before pulling out a bunched up piece of cloth. With a flourish, he threw on the cloak and held out his arms to you expectantly.

All you did was tilt your head at him, clearly not understanding what he was getting at.

“Come here! I can hide you in this and we’ll go!”

You stared back at him for a beat, before dissolving into giggles, “That won’t work! You’re being silly!” Magnolia flinched from the sudden outburst, leaping back onto her feet from the sitting position she was in and looking around the room wildly.

“Hey, give it a chance!” Ace clutched at his chest, deeply wounded from being mocked by a little kid.

“Where would Maggie go?”

That did pose a problem. There’s no way he can fit both you and Maggie in his cloak. “Uh. W-Well… she can just walk with us? The others are only worried about you leaving, right? They won’t care if it’s just Maggie,” he offers.

You only continued to mercilessly laugh in his face, “You’re not very good at coming up with plans, Uncle Ace!” 

“Okay, come here you,” Ace stormed forward and scooped you up. As soon as you were secured to his chest, he wrapped the cloak tight around you.

“This isn’t gonna work,” you chimed in, muffled from the cloth and having your face squished into his chest. 

Ace paid it no mind and hurried towards the door to the deck. He knew this was far from his best idea, but he was desperate to show you off to his family. All he could do was pray that no one else was on deck.

Leith snorted, slapping down her arm when he made it clear he wanted some samples. The needle and vials were a dead giveaway. "You sure she's not more like your flame-prone captain?"

"Oh, there's a similarity for sure." He nodded, getting the tourniquet ready in his hands. "But only because of the accidental arson. Alright, I'm gonna need to do some tests for blood sugar levels. Do you have any adverse reactions to needles I should know about?"

"Not unless it developed without me noticing," she said, eyeing the instruments with a hefty helping of distaste. "I'm just not a fan of seeing it go in."

"No, dizziness, nausea, or abrupt need to scream at the top of your lungs?" He asked while gently palpitating at the crook of her arm, tapping at the vein he was going for.

"No, ah—" Leith blinked once that last part registered. "Wait, seriously?"

"Yeah, if I wasn't already starting to go deaf in this ear, I sure am now," Pitch remarked dryly, pointing at his right side, before tying the tourniquet and dabbing at her arm with an alcohol swab.

I finally sat down and made a summary of my marine Luffy au

Marine Luffy au

Everything kinda goes exactly like it does in cannon except Luffy meets Ace and Sabo earlier and he doesn't want to be king of the pirates, he still wants to be a pirate though.

He met Shanks and had that father son bonding moments, and got his devilfruit.

Ace and Sabo thanked Shanks for saving their little brother, and Shanks leaves.

Garp noticed Luffy was getting more rebellious and since it was to late for Ace and Sabo he sent Luffy to train a year before Ace and Sabo set sail.

They were super pissed at Garp and knew they couldn't really help luffy yet.

They formed the spade pirates together, Ace the captain and Sabo vice captain and set sail to find Luffy.

But he wasn't where Garp said he'd be and basically disappeared off the map.

Ace and Sabo spent a while looking for their little brother, with no luck.

When Luffy turned 17 he reappeared out of the blue and went straight to arresting pirates left and right.

He really did want to help the people, but he hated who he was working for.

Going up the ranks until he reached Vice Admiral, and he stayed there, not wanting to be more controlled than what he actually was.

For years he's secretly stole classified documents and stored them away.

He knew that if he got caught he'd be executed, and it was a risk he was willing to take.

Luffy in this au is much more smarter than he appears to be and a lot more self-destructive, he's also more reserved.

he felt incredibly betrayed by the people in his life and actively avoids them because he can't handle being around them because of how angry he is, he never grew out of his angry phase that he had as a kid.

But oh boy is this man a little shit, going out of his way to piss of everyone.

Chapter 4: How Do I Love Thee?

The first day after Ace's confession, everyone was shocked as to the way he was.

Setting aside the fact he didn't try killing Edward. He was also eating with the crew and having fun. He quickly became the light or the crew.

Not that the crew was boring beforehand, but Ace's addition definitely gave more life to the ship. Not only that, his contribution in battles were also immense.

With your help, Ace's development within the crew of the Whitebeard Pirates took on a transformative path. Your presence and support played a crucial role in shaping Ace's growth as both a person and a member of the crew.

As the days went by, your relationship with Ace grew stronger, deepening into something more personal and intimate. Your stories of adventures and heartfelt conversations about your previous adventures brought you closer, and you found solace in each other's company.

Late nights on the deck of the ship became moments you cherished, as you stargazed and shared your dreams and aspirations. Your presence became a calming force for Ace, and he found himself opening up to them more, sharing his hopes, fears, and vulnerabilities.

As you laughed and teased each other during meals and downtime, the crew noticed the subtle changes in your interactions. You and Ace seemed to share a deeper understanding, your eyes lighting up whenever they caught each other's gaze.

The crew, be it the former Spades or Whitebeard, could sense the growing connection between you two. They saw how Ace's smile seemed brighter whenever you were around, and how your eyes softened whenever you looked at him.

It was evident. You two had a bond, that not even anyone in the past comes close to. One that neither of you were aware as for the cause of it.

One evening while Ace helped you pack for a mission you two were taking, he paused.

"Hey Y/N, tell me... What do you think of Roger?" He says. "Many consider him a monster... a criminal... but as someone who travelled with him." He turned to you. "What are your thoughts on him?"

"He was an incredible man. I've always looked up to him." You laughed, "Don't tell the old man but Roger was my favorite between them."

"Why..?"

"Edward... he was my first taste of adventure. He was the one who gave me a change. But Roger, he was the real adventure. He was a great man, great pirate and an even greater friend. It surprised me when I came to this time and find out he was convicted to such level. He was similar to Edward... except he was stupider. His first mate, Rayleigh, he was the one that kept our captain from being rash."

Ace kept quiet and looked at your pile of clothes.

"You remind me of him." You smile, he froze and looked at you unsure. "He's always stupid prioritizing lives of his family over his. The number of times he almost died was too much for me too count. I kept going back again and again to keep him from dying until we had reached our final destination. He was careless, but that was because he knew he would win. He's never lost."

"He was my father..." He bit his lip trying to keep his emotions in.

"I know." You sit down in front of him, "But you know, you don't have to regard him as your father. I want you to know that you don't have to call him that if it makes you uncomfortable."

Ace blinked in surprise, not expecting the conversation to take this turn. "He's my father," he repeats.

Placing your hand on his head, "You've been comparing yourself to him. Your disregarding yourself thinking you're here for his crimes. From stories you've told me... Ace, you're not your father. And you have a family here in the Whitebeard Pirates, and we care about you deeply. You don't need to carry the weight of that title if it doesn't feel right to you."

Ace looked into your eyes, finding comfort in your understanding and acceptance, "Can I?

"You're an important part of this family," You replied, a warm smile gracing your lips. "You don't have to carry the burden of being related to him. Your identity and worth aren't defined by your lineage; they're shaped by the person you've become. And I think you're a fine man yourself."

"Do you think... pops would react the same as you did?" He mumbles resting his head against your lap.

Combing through his hair, "He probably will... If he doesn't then I'll be your family."

"How did you guess I was his son...?"

Looking up and thinking to yourself, "There wasn't a time I wasn't watching Roger in awe." You laughed and looked at him. "I don't know what exactly it was about you. But I just knew. Just like with Roger, there wasn't a time I didn'twatch you in awe."

As the crew gathered on the deck to celebrate your triumphant return, the crew approached you both with a warm smile. "You both did a fine job on that mission," they praised.

The crew erupted into cheers, clapping and congratulating Ace and you.

"You know we've offered Y/N the position before but she's declined it numerous times, but what about Ace becoming the 2nd division commander?" Marco asks.

The crowd cheered louder, agreeing with what Marco had suggested. Ace was momentarily stunned, hardly able to believe what he was hearing. Becoming the Second Division Commander was a tremendous honor.

He leaves your side and went on asking around if people were in fact okay with the suggestion.

Marco comes beside you, "So? Are you going to get married?"

You punch his arm causing him to laugh.

"2nd division commanders tend to fall for a time travelling Amatsuki. They also tend to marry on the ship."

"Haha you're funny." You bump him and walk away.

"C'mon!" He laughed running after you. "I remember back when your sister got married, I told you I was marrying you." He laughed.

"Not happening. " You roll your eyes and walk again only to bump into Ace.

"Hey Ace-" Before Marco can finish Ace drag you away.

"I'm going to talk to pops." He said with a frown.

"Oh- do you want me inside with you?"

Ace looks at you. "I don't know."

"I can be outside and wait for you if you want privacy..."

He wraps his arms around you and puts his face against your neck. You rub circles on his back.

"I can go in if you want."

"Y/N I really like you."

You chuckle, "I know that."

"You don't have to like me back yet but," He lifts his head not letting you go from his hug. "Can you keep your attention to me?"

You blink, "What-?"

His face blushed, "I mean," he pouts. "I wanna be your favorite boy."

Your heart skipped at the unexpectedness from him. Your face flushed and containing your smile was hard. You cover your face with your hand embarrassed by your giddy expression.

"I don't like you with Marco..." He says and buries his face on your neck again.

You bite your lip suppressing a grin. "You overheard him?"

He nods in response not lifting his head embarrassed by what he had just said.

"Dummy, you misunderstood him. He meant to say that he's marrying me, as in officiating the ceremony. He was teasing me because I'm following my sister's steps, she married the 2nd division commander." You laughed.

Ace immediately raised his head showing his face turned slightly red. He felt a pang of embarrassment for misinterpreting their conversation and letting his emotions get the better of him.

"I-I..."

"You don't have to be jealous or worried about anyone okay? All my attention is yours. Now are you gonna talk to the old man?"

He lets you go and takes a deep breath, "You'll wait for me here?"

You nod with a smile. He then head inside the Edward's room.

Ace and Yara if they had kids? 🧸

🧸 Would they want to have kids together? If so what are their kid(s) like? How are they as parents?

Firstly, I should acknowledge just how OP any potential Portada offspring would be-- like, they’d have hella strong genes, especially considering who their grandfathers are lmao the World Government and the Marines would be shitting themselves just thinking about it.

Anyways, Ace and Yara would absolutely want to have kids, but there are certainly some hesitations around the matter. Ace loves the idea of having children with Yara, but it also scares the hell outta him. Does he want to condemn them to sharing his bloodline? What if they hate him as much as he hates his own father? What if something happens to Yara, and he loses her in childbirth the way he lost his own mother? What if the World Government comes after his family? He knows they’d never know a moment’s peace, especially after his secret is unveiled to the world at Marineford. But Yara assures him that she knows the risks, and that he won’t be an awful father, and that nothing will happen to her in the process. She’s actually the one who’s initially more on board with the idea of having kids. She loves Ace, and she also loves the idea of pissing off the World Government by continuing [redacted]’s bloodline. Marineford was a powerful motivator for her in that regard. 

Overall, they’d have about 2-5, I’m still undecided (Yara only really wanted one, but Ace is insatiable when it comes to his gorgeous wife lol I’m just not sure where the point is when she puts her foot down and says ‘that’s it, no more kids’). Their first one wasn’t planned, but wasn’t exactly unplanned, either. It just sort of… happened while in the process of negotiating whether kids would be a good idea for them. Ace is the most stressed about it, waiting on Yara hand and foot while she’s pregnant. He’s a constant mixture of excited and terrified, but the further along she gets, the more he falls in love with the idea of having a family, and Yara constantly assures him he’ll be an amazing father. During the pregnancy, he’s glued to Yara’s side and won’t let her lift a finger (much to her annoyance sometimes). He talks to the baby constantly, telling them stories about his childhood on Mt. Corvo with Luffy and Sabo, his adventures as the short-lived Captain of the Spade Pirates, and how he met and fell in love with Yara, as well as humming sea shanties occasionally, too. He gets super excited every time he feels the baby kick (and definitely cried a bit the first time he felt it and it really hit him that wow, he’s gonna be a dad). 

Once their first baby (their eldest son, Shiro, named after Whitebeard) is born, Ace takes to fatherhood immediately. He’s so good with literally everything, from feeding to diaper changing to rocking the baby to sleep. Yara, on the other hand… actually struggles with being a mother at first. She hates the constant crying and not getting enough sleep and finds herself getting really frustrated that it’s not coming to her very easily. She wonders if her own father felt like this-- it gets bad enough that she actually starts to sympathize with Mihawk lol. Ace reminds her that he’s good at it because he has a lot more experience with kids than she does-- he practically helped raise Luffy, after all. He reassures her that she’s doing a great job and that it’s okay to not get it all immediately. But Yara doesn’t start to feel like she’s suited to being a mother until Shiro gets sick for the first time, and she throws all her effort into nursing him back to health, realizing that the fact that she’s so worried about him must mean that despite her earlier reservations, she actually does have a strong bond with her baby. And when he calls her “Mama” for the first time, she cries. 

We all know Ace is the fun parent, but weirdly enough, he’s also the stricter one, too, just because his parenting style is way more hands-on than Yara’s so he’s more likely to be the one to tell the kids ‘no’ when they want to do something they shouldn’t. Yara is more inclined to let her kids learn by experience. That’s how she was raised, and she turned out just fine (according to her). She’s very much the ‘I don’t want to deal with this right now, go ask your father’ style parent.

Ace loves playing with his kids-- in a way, he’s making up for the early childhood he never really had. Any little accomplishment of theirs, no matter how small, he treats like it’s the best thing ever. They drew him a picture? He’s running around the ship showing absolutely everyone he can find, beaming with pride the whole time. Ace as a big brother was already a lot, but Ace as a dad? He’s committed to it 10000%. Being a father gives Ace a whole new reason to want to live. When he was younger, he never could have imagined he’d have a family someday, and he wants his kids to never ever feel like they didn’t deserve to be born.

Yara might not be as outwardly expressive of her love as Ace is, but she very much loves and is proud of her kids in her own way. She might not react too strongly when her kid hands her a drawing they did other than a ‘oh, you drew this? This looks nice’, but within the day, the drawing will be neatly framed up on the wall. Yara does a lot of the behind-the-scenes parenting, preparing snacks and making sure they have clean clothes that fit and stitching up their favourite stuffed animals. Ace and Yara are a great parental team, playing to their strengths and making sure that between them, all the bases are covered for their kids to have as best a childhood as they can offer. 

The kids all take the Portgas name-- and the D, of course, too, since they end up inheriting the Will of D. I only have set ideas for the first two, but I might come up with more at some point later. As mentioned above, their firstborn is Portgas D. Shiro. He looks quite a bit like Ace when he was younger, with wavy black hair and freckled cheeks, but he’s got the Dracule hawk eyes. Personality-wise, he’s quite a bit like Ace, too-- cheerful, stubborn, headstrong, and has a bad habit of never retreating from a fight, but he inherited his mother (and grandfather)’s prowess with a blade, becoming a swordsman. Yara tries training him when he gets a bit older, but they end up butting heads so often that she ends up giving him to Zoro as a student, hoping he might actually listen to someone who’s not his mother. Shiro’s goal is to surpass Zoro as the World’s Greatest Swordsman one day, and ends up inheriting his grandfather’s blade Yoru. 

Their secondborn is Portgas D. Relie, their (potentially eldest) daughter. I named her after her step-grandmother in my crossover with Evie (@auxiliarydetective)’s OC, La Donna Dracule Aurelia, since Aurelia is a really important person in Yara’s life and she gave her daughter the name to honour her (but everyone calls the younger Aurelia “Relie”). She has violet hair like her mother, though it’s a bit more wavy, and soft brown eyes (the same colour as Yara’s right eye). She also got Ace’s freckles-- some even say that her face is the spitting image of her grandmother, Portgas D. Rouge. She definitely has more of the Dracule personality, quiet and reserved. At some point, she gets her hands on a Logia fruit (my idea was for it to be volcano-related somehow, perhaps volcanic ash, but I’m too lazy to check if that Devil Fruit concept already exists in canon lol). Also, she notably inherits Ace’s narcolepsy. 

Mihawk, as the only living grandparent, is surprisingly involved with his grandkids’ lives. As the now-retired former World’s Greatest Swordsman, he spends his time chilling on some secluded island where he can peacefully farm for the rest of his days. He babysits the kids fairly regularly when their parents are off having adventures that are too dangerous to have children around for (or when Ace and Yara just need some Alone Time), and they have a great time with their Grandpa Mihawk. Plus, Mihawk’s involvement makes the Marines hesitant to try any funny business, sort of like how Whitebeard protected Ace. 

These kids have SO MANY aunts and uncles between Ace’s brothers and their crewmates/associates in the Straw Hats and the Revolutionary Army, the other WBP division commanders, and former Spade Pirates-- not to mention Zoro and Perona as well. Luffy and Sabo spoil them rotten whenever they come visit, and retired Marine Hero Great-Grandpa Garp has been known to visit every now and again. (Garp has no idea how he got roped into caring for his old rival’s descendants, but the kids like him and he even tolerates the great-grandpa label, even though it makes him feel reeeeally old lmao). If Whitebeard is still alive at that point, he’s the best grandpa ever. It’s a huge, chaotic extended family, but Ace and Yara are extremely grateful for all the support-- it really does take a village (or a few pirate crews), after all.

good question! i don't think i have any canon/canon ships that i'm nearly as attached to as my oc/canon ones but hmmm off the top of my head in no particular order- (i definitely rambled too much omggg 🏃‍♂️💨💨)

ZoSan: my first introduction to OP through doujin of all things when I was younger lol, my feelings towards these characters have morphed and changed and complicated over the years (regards to Sanji in particular), I have a lot to say both good and some bad about them but at the end of the day I'll always have a soft spot for curly and marimo in this little heart of mine, they're my old reliable <3

PenShach: I'm a sucker for childhood friends to lovers lmao, they've been glued to each other's sides through hell or high water (literally, with the tsunami that killed their respective parents), having their backs when things got rough at home with Shachi's aunt and uncle, swearing their loyalty to this weird kid who both beat them up for bullying an innocent polar bear and saved their lives, stumbling ass backwards through their attractions to other people, each other, and Penguin's gender - it's a sweet idea 💕

KilKidd: similar to PenShach in that they grew up together and learned to get along when they had no one but each other to rely on but on top of that also the absolute devotion and unwavering trust a first mate can have in his captain, the resolve to stick by him til the bitter end 🥹

Frobin: two jaded, hurt people doomed by fate and circumstance who are ultimately bound to one another and decide to build their way out of a shitty situation together, stronger - the fact that they're a little "older" as well (even though early-mid 30s shouldn't be considered old at all) but still managing to experience all these giddy, happy feelings you'd only expect from adolescence is very important to me 🥺💕 (they're also t4t bi4bis)

UsoNami: kids drawn to the open sea by a dream and realizing immediately that they were WAY in over their heads but bond over being the 'weakest links' in their group despite holding immeasurable value to the SHs in their specialized skills and friendships, they've also just always had a cute kind of chemistry that I like - girlboss with the silly guy who makes her laugh (also bi4bis but aside from Usopp I think Nami would be disinterested in guys entirely)

I like SmoAce, AceSan, and DeuAce all for different reasons - smug punk getting on an older man's last nerve every single day and babygirling the hell out of him at the same time, the push and pull/taboos of a pirate x marine dynamic, how both of them are a little dissatisfied with their lot in life (constantly being on the run with no place to return to, having to answer to uncaring and at worst outright cruel higherups that cared none for what their so-called "Justice" actually meant) and find comfort in each other for what few, temporary chances they get - Sanji's bisexual awakening/the immediate angst in the wake of Marineford and what that means for the feelings he has no where to put now because Ace always said it for him (because he was too scared to on his own) - that sweet sweet first mate/captain dynamic I love 😩👌 + I kind of like the Spade pirates as they were before joining WB and all, I want to know more about the people Ace deliberately chose to surround himself with rather than the family he was adopted into

Law's ship needs repairs, and the only place to do so is said to be haunted. Instead of a ghost or spirit, he meets Aika; a stubborn, kind young woman who's doing her best to keep her family safe. Through a series of tragic circumstances, she finds her way onto his crew, and into his heart.

Cards and Pieces: Freyce (Portgas D. Ace x OC) Ongoing

In his time as captain of the Spade Pirates, Ace drunkenly stumbles across a young woman with a strong spirit, a need for connection, and a loyalty that burns brighter than the sun. She becomes his first mate, and stands by his side through everything.

Hi there, Anon-friend! Thank you so much for the request! 🥰 I would absolutely love to write some headcanons about the Flower Vermillion Siblings for you, especially since today is Kirsch's birthday! (Happy Birthday, Kirsch! 🌸) My heart really goes out to all of the problematic fictional sibling relationships, and I tend to get really, really invested in them. Kirsch and Mimosa's strained sibling bond is definitely no exception, and I really hope they get to reconcile and become closer someday. I am a big believer that Mimosa and Kirsch can one day reach an understanding of each other and have a more functional sibling bond in the future, so I am very happy to get to think of some wholesome ideas for these two. 💗

While Mimosa doesn't talk about her brother much to her squad mates on the Golden Dawn, everyone on the Coral Peacocks squad knows about Mimosa. Kirsch mentions her constantly to the point that Dorothy jokes that Mimosa is their entire squad's "little sister." They all know better to mention it to Mimosa, however, but Mimosa does start to catch on when, surprisingly enough, most of the Coral Peacocks members seem to know a lot of things about her, especially about her achievements which Kirsch talks about the most--the squad assumes it's just part of his usual bragging bravado, but those who know him well know that it's really because he is genuinely proud of his little sister and all of her accomplishments.

Bonus: When Mimosa and Noelle visit Dorothy for tea in her Glamour World once, Dorothy accidentally let's slip that she's made Mimosa's favorite tea, even though Mimosa knows that she's never mentioned it herself. Dorothy knows it's Mimosa's favorite tea because Kirsch always asks for a cup of it himself and always remarks that his sister has impeccable taste.

While Mimosa loved the beautiful fairy tale books that she was given to read as a child, she also loved adventure books. When she started to muddy her dresses and tear holes in her stockings from playing pirates or expeditioners with her cousins in the gardens, however, her family felt that such books weren't appropriate literature for a proper, royal young lady. Kirsch, however, thought this was ridiculous and would sneak all the best adventure books out of the library and slide them under Mimosa's door or hide them in her room so she'd still get to read them.

💙-- Hurt/Comfort

Whenever Kirsch was having a really rough day when he and his sister were growing up, Tiny Mimosa used to sneak down to the kitchen in Castle Vermillion to steal chocolate candies for him. She used to always say that "chocolates make everything better" and would sneak the candies into his room to try to cheer him up. It always managed to bring a smile to his face. In the future, after Mimosa returned following the attack on the Golden Dawn and the Spade Arc, Kirsch was very concerned about his sister and everything she had gone through, but unsure of the best way to express it, he went out and bought the biggest box of chocolates he could find and sent them to her.

When Mimosa was very little and Kirsch was beginning to learn to use his magic, she used to beg him to make it "rain flowers." He always obliged because he loved to show off how his little sister's face would light up when she danced and skipped around in the sea of petals. There would be several times that Mimosa would reach for his brother's hand and ask him to dance with her too.

Bonus (for extra cavities): In the future, Mimosa's children will beg "Uncle Kirsch" to make it "rain flowers" for them just like their mom used to do when she was their age, and he will take his beloved nieces and nephews out into gardens and watch them giggle and dance around in the petals. Feeling nostalgic, he'll often invite Mimosa to join in the fun and they'll all dance in the "flower rain" together. 🌸
