ruggie bucchi vs kalim al-asim

Ruggie didn’t know how he felt about Kalim. On one hand, he represented everything Ruggie really despised — spoiled, oblivious, lazy upper-crust people who wouldn’t know a struggle if it hit them in the face. On the other hand, Kalim never gave him a real reason to dislike him beyond his socioeconomic standing.

That is, until now.

You and Kalim, much to Ruggie’s dismay, had been paired up for some Astrology project. You two had been friendly before but now, you were attached at the hip. Or, more accurately, Kalim followed you around like a lost pup, which made Ruggie roll his eyes every time he saw it. You didn’t seem to mind though…

It was a rare moment nowadays to have you to himself, so Ruggie capitalized on the fact that you were alone at a cafeteria table and that Leona had been sound asleep in the gardens at that moment. Skipping the line and ignoring disgruntled cries, Ruggie got a hamburger and joined you at your table.

You perked up when you saw him, offering him a smile that made his stomach flip-flop. “Hey!”

“You mind if I sit here?”

“You know that I don’t. I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve seen you!”

“Yeah.” Ruggie resisted the urge to point out that Kalim was the reason for it, instead opting to say, “I’ve been studying my ass off for Vargas’s exam.”

“Me too,” you sighed, resting your cheek on your palm. “Who would’ve thought the Headmage would make him do a written exam?”

Ruggie replied, “I heard something different — that Professor Trein basically said Vargas wouldn’t be able to pull together one since he’s got muscles for brains, or something like that.”

You snorted out a laugh, “Even if that isn’t true, it is in my head.”

Ruggie bit down on his lip to keep from grinning too widely. Your conversation carried on, blissfully uninterrupted, for approximately seven more minutes (not that Ruggie was counting or anything) until the exact person Ruggie didn’t want to say bounded over in his endless sunshine.

“Ooh! Is that the blush sauce pasta?” Kalim asked you, leaning over your shoulder. Ruggie huffed when your attention was pulled from him. “Do you think I’ll like it? Can I have a bite?”

Ruggie glared at Kalim as you twirled up a bunch of pasta, holding it out on your fork for Kalim to try. He wondered if Kalim was purposefully a messy eater or if that was just him, but some sauce splattered on his cheek. “Whoops,” Kalim said and you just shook your head fondly, wiping some off with a napkin.

Deliberate or not, Ruggie had one thought cross his mind: Two can play that game. With that, he braced himself and drove his knee upwards into the table. He let out a yelp of pain and your attention was immediately diverted. “Are you okay, Ruggie?” You shot up from your seat and came over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Roll up your pant leg — is it bruising?”

As you started pulling the fabric up, Ruggie shot a sidelong glance at Kalim, who was watching intently with a pout, and his mouth pulled into a smug smirk.

Ruggie: 1, Kalim: 0.

cater diamond vs. malleus draconia

Since Riddle and the rest of the housewardens were away on some bonding retreat organized by Kalim, Cater decided to throw a party. Half of it was to be able to have fun without Riddle getting on to him about the rules, and the other half was because he wanted an excuse to spend time with you outside of class. You had been pretty busy recently so he was really looking forward to chilling with you.

Imagine his shock when he saw you walk into the dorm with Malleus Draconia at your side. Tall, dark, and regal, Malleus cut an intimidating figure as followed you across the room, headed for Cater. “Hey!” you chirped, grinning brightly. “Thanks for inviting us.” Cater’s heart skipped a beat as he soaked in the sight of your smile.

Malleus nodded along and said, “It was very generous of you.”

Part of Cater wanted to say that he invited you, not Malleus, but he definitely wasn’t going to say that. Plus, maybe he could get a Magicam pic with him at this party? “Of course!” Cater replied, “I’m super excited to have you here!” He turned to Malleus and said, “Not often that I see you out and about!”

You looped you arm through Malleus, something both he and Cater took note of, and said, “This is Malleus’s first big party so I was thinking you could show him around and introduce him with me?”

“I’d be surprised if people didn’t know him,” Cater said. “But I’ll definitely help.”

“Ah,” Malleus spoke up. “We wouldn’t want to impose on Cater. I would be okay if you just showed me around, Y/n.”

Cater’s smile faltered but he recovered, shaking his head. What was that about? “It’s no trouble at all, really.”

“It’s uncourteous of a host to leave his guests unattended and to curry favor on one,” Malleus pressed and Cater’s eyes narrowed. What was Malleus playing at?

It didn’t take long for Cater to put two and two together. The way Malleus didn’t reject your touch, the way he arrived with you, the way he insisted that only you showed him around, the tenderness with which he looked at you — Malleus liked you. Panic bubbled up in him. If that was the case, and you brought him with you to Cater’s party, did that mean you liked Malleus romantically?

At that exact moment, another thought dawned on Cater. “Shouldn’t you be at the housewarden retreat?” He nearly jumped when the aura around Malleus became a mix of gloom and irritation.

You definitely felt the shift too as you asked, “Cater, can I talk to you alone for a sec?” You grabbed his arm and hauled him off somewhere, calling sweetly over your shoulder to Malleus, “We won’t be gone long!”

You led Cater to an empty hallway and said, “Malleus wasn’t invited, so I decided to bring him here to, you know, cheer him up!”

Ah, now that made sense. His body relaxed a little. So this wasn’t a date. You just felt bad that Malleus wasn’t invited.

You continued, “I know you’re hosting and it’s a lot to ask, but could you help me just make sure he has a good time? Or at least isn’t sulking alone in the corner?”

Cater considered this for a second. He wasn’t too keen on babysitting Malleus for the night but if it meant spending time with you… “Sure, no problem!” When your face broke into a relieved smile, Cater knew that, somehow, this would be worth it.

sebek zigvolt vs. jack howl

“Master Lilia!” Sebek shouted, rushing into the Diasomnia dorm. Looking up from a game of chess with Silver, who had fallen asleep across from him, Lilia asked, “What can I do for you, Sebek?”

“I seek counsel!”

“Oh? On what matter?”

Sebek huffed, “I am trying to find a way to spend more time with Y/n but I am at a loss for how to do so. Every time I approach them, they are with someone and even when they are not, people pop up everywhere.”

Lilia nodded carefully. “I see.” Lilia thought for a moment before saying, “You have a test in Defense Magic coming up, no?”

“Master Lilia, with all due respect, this is not the time to—”

Lilia held up a hand. “Let me finish, Sebek. You share that class with Y/n, if I recall correctly. So why don’t you invite them to study with you? Just the two of you, no one else.”

Sebek’s face brightened. “Master, you prove yourself once again to be a brilliant strategist! I am indebted to you!”

With a bow, Sebek ran off again, finding you in the Mirror Chamber, leaving your dorm portal. “Human!”

“Oh, hey, Sebek!”

“I am requesting that we study together for the Defense Magic test!”

“Oh!” You nodded vigorously. “Yeah, that would be great actually! It’s kind of one of my worst subjects, so it would be a lot of help to study with someone else.”

“And, of course, I know what I’m doing, so you’re in good hands.”

“Alright, do you want to go to the library now?”

“Ah,” Sebek said, “I… got banned for the day for my volume in the library.” He couldn’t tell if his face was warming from the admission or from your amused stare.

You chuckled and said, “What about the courtyard then? We need to actually do spells anyways, so that’s a better option.”

Sebek nodded and you two walked to the courtyard. As you two started studying and practicing together, Sebek learned two things: one, you weren’t lying when you said Defense Magic wasn’t your strong suit. You managed to put a shield around a bench instead of yourself. The second thing was that, while he was okay at the subject, he was nowhere near good enough to really effectively help you study. And if that was the case, how could he help and defend the Young Master if he couldn’t help you, the person he liked, with such a simple thing as Defense Magic? And if he failed the Young Master—

“Jack!” The call of the name snapped Sebek from his downward spiral, and he followed your gaze to Jack, who was jogging across the courtyard. Sebek couldn’t help but grimace when the other boy made his way towards the two of you.

“Hey.”

You asked him, “Your best class is Defense Magic, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you think you have time to help me and Sebek with the shielding spell that’s on the upcoming exam?”

Sebek’s eyes narrowed as he watched Jack’s tail start to wag. Before he could answer you, Sebek interjected, “I’m sure we don’t want to bother Jack on his run.”

“I’m, uh, actually just finishing,” Jack said. “It’s okay, I can help.”

Without warning, you wrapped Jack in a hug, ignoring the sweat clinging to him. “Thank you so much, you’re the best!”

Sebek could only glower at your embrace and at the way Jack’s tail seemed to be rapidly picking up speed by the second. It seemed like he would have to take the loss, retreat for the day, and regroup with Master Lilia to craft a different plan.

A few sniffles were heard by a pair of hyena ears that was walking by, his hands occupied with a basket full of clothes meant to be washed. Ruggie continued on his way deciding to ignore the sound, — judge him if you want, he was a busy guy and didn't have time to deal with someone having a crisis — but realized the cries were getting louder each step. Once he made a turn he finally stumbled upon the source of such noise.

Sitting on the ground, holding her legs tightly and trembling was Daisy, the prefect Ruggie had come to… like, he guessed, in these past two days she's stayed at Savanaclaw. He blinked in confusion, the mere sight of her crying seeming out of character as he always saw her with a smile and a fire in her eyes. Where before she stood strong and courageous by fighting her fears in a battle against Leona by his side, now she looked… small, frail and absolutely terrified of God knows what.

Ruggie didn't know what to say so he simply cleared his throat, making the girl flinch and dry her tears the moment she realized someone was there.

“I-I’m sorry, don't mind me.” She quickly said, but upon realizing it was Ruggie, a part of her seemed to relax. “Oh, it's… you.”

“Yeah, me.” Ruggie said, a bit unsure. “Are you… alright?” A stupid question, he knows, but what else was he supposed to say?

“Yes, I'm just… I guess I'm angry.”

“Angry? You're crying rivers because you're angry?” Ruggie lifted an eyebrow, confused and a bit skeptical.

“Well, I– I guess it's more frustration. I just- just don't know how to get it out so… I started crying without realizing.” Daisy explained, wiping some other tears away. “Please just don't tell anyone you saw me like this. I can pay you lunch in exchange if you wish.”

“I wasn't gonna say anything regardless, but who am I to refuse free lunch?” He laughed that trademark laugh of his and Daisy giggled. Ruggie widened his smile, happy to know he somehow was able to lift her spirits at least a bit.

The hyena beastmen put the basket of clothes down, crouching in front of his temporary dorm member, and tilting his head.

“So, what's up?”

“What?”

“Why are you frustrated?”

Daisy seemed surprised by the question, blinking a few times to make sure she wasn't just imagining things.

“Why… why do you wanna know?”

That was a good question. Ruggie didn't have an answer for that, he just wanted to know, he wanted to know why she was so angry so he could help her cheer up. Why did he want to do so? Oh, don't ask, that was an even bigger question for him.

He just didn't like seeing her like this. Not the Daisy he knew.

“You look defeated.” He said, frowning, making Daisy look away in embarrassment. “It annoys me seeing the girl who basically saved my life and took care of me like this. I don't wanna be in debt with anyone, but specially not to anyone who looks like such a loser.”

“Hey, now!”

“I said ‘looks like’, not ‘is’.” He pointed out. “Is it because of Azul?”

Daisy groaned. “It's Azul, it's Ramshackle, it's the Leech twins preventing me from getting that dang photo, it's- ugh.” She massaged her temples, stress starting to build up once again. “I'm just… so frustrated. I was happy with Grimmy at Ramshackle but now… this stupid guy wants to steal it from me. The only place I'm happy at.” She lets out. The girl lifted her head again, her eyes making contact with Ruggie's attentive gaze, and she sighed. “Sorry, I'll… stop feeling sorry for myself and get to work.”

“You better, crying about it ain't gonna fix anything.” Ruggie said, matter of factly, and Daisy felt a knife through her heart. Afterwards though, she felt warm fingers against the skin of her cheek, caressing her face softly and carefully. “You can't stay defeated like this. Where's that determination you had during the Spelldrive fiasco, huh?” He smiled and Daisy returned it, though it was smaller, weaker, more timid. Her cheeks were warming up. “Come on, you're better than this. And to prove it…”

His other hand made its way to her other cheek, Ruggie was getting closer with each second and Daisy started freaking out. Unsure of what to do, the girl closed her eyes, her hands clutching the step of the stairs she was seated on, but instead of feeling anything against her lips or face, nothing came, so she slowly opened her eyes, seeing Ruggie holding a pair of earrings.

Her pair of earrings.

“Hey! These are mine!”

“Yes, yes, I'm aware.” He got up, putting the earrings in his pocket as he smirked at her. “My, my, were you expecting something else? You closed your eyes and everything.”

Daisy's face went red in shame and embarrassment and she struggled to speak. Ruggie laughed at her reaction, walking towards his basket and picking it up again.

“I'll return these to you once you leave Savanaclaw after getting Azul his picture.”

“Ruggie, please. They were my mother's.” Daisy got up, standing in front of him and preventing him from walking. “They're the only thing I have from her. Please.”

Ruggie stayed quiet for a moment, his face serious this time. “And because of that I promise to take good care of them.” Suddenly, he gave her a head pat, his smile returning, but it was much softer this time, something that put Daisy’s heart at ease. “You’ll figure it out, prefect. You outsmarted Leona once, of course you’ll be able to outsmart Azul.” Then, he flickered her forehead lightly, starting to walk away. “See ya around, flower.”

And with that Daisy was alone again. She was still angry, but now she was much more at ease, and had even more motivation to keep on going. Ruggie was right, she survived until now, someone like Azul wouldn't ruin her home! She had to deal with worst before!

She was getting that picture and winning against Azul, no matter what.

The date happenes by complete accident-- for once Daisy and Ruggie decide to go out of campus to have a cute little date, like a picnic or something, but when they reach the place (or maybe in the way to said place) they find Yuuna and VIL having a date of their own and because Yuuna and Daisy are good friends they decide to have a date together 🫶🏻

“Didn't I tell you to sit down?” The pirate asked, finally finishing taking his coat and hat off so they wouldn't get wet. He rushed to the mermaid’s side, — well, not anymore, he guessed — picking her off the ground and helping her up, looking away from her body. “Sheesh… come on, I'll help you into the tub. But cover yourself while you get there.”

As he walked, still looking ahead rather than at the naked girl beside him, he managed to get her in the tub filled with water.

“I’m sorry… I'm not used to… well, walking.” The ex-mermaid explained, touching her legs underneath the water as Ruggie turned around to get the stuff for her bath. “It's so much different than swimming with my fin…”

“Well, it should be.” Ruggie said as he got the bottles of shampoo and conditioner, along with a soap. “Turn around, I'll help you with cleaning your hair. You'll scrub yourself with the soap tho, I'm not touching you.” he sits down on a nearby bench as the girl turned around, hugging her new legs. “And for the sevens do not get out of the water.”

“Why?” She asked, and for a moment Ruggie thought she was joking because there was no way she was this naive. He rolled his eyes the moment he realized that no she was indeed very serious.

“I don't know how it is underwater since you guys don't have… you know.” she lifted an eyebrow but he was not about to explain himself on that. He grabbed the shampoo and started cleaning her hair, the girl letting a few giggles out at the sensation of his fingers on her scalp. “-but a guy like me and a girl like you shouldn't be naked around each other.”

“A guy like you?”

“I'm not your family member, let alone your lover.” He said as he gently started taking off the shampoo with water from the tub, telling her to close her eyes in the process. “it's not right for me to see you like this. I'm only doing this because you’d probably hurt your eyes or be confused by the products.” He gives her a smirk after he’s done with the shampoo and she opens her eyes. “But I hope you do know this will cost ya.”

“Oh- yes… that's the pirate way, I assume.” The girl sighed, a bit disappointed by that. But then again, at the end of the day she was in a pirate crew now, and nothing came for free from pirates.

Ruggie started spreading the conditioner through her blond strands, realizing just how long they were. He quickly glanced at the girl, her face specifically, noticing just how beautiful she truly was… well, she was a mermaid, he guessed they were meant to be beautiful.

Still, her beauty seemed to not only come from her appearance, but from the way she carried herself, from the way she spoke, and from the way she exhaled curiosity by every little thing Ruggie showed her about human life.

He cleared his throat, ignoring the blush on his cheeks.

“So uh… your name? I’ve been calling you “mermaid” and “girl” this whole time.”

“Eléa.”

He stared at her and blinked. It was short, pretty, but for some reason Ruggie wasn't sure he’d be able to pronounce it… the girl seemed to notice it and giggled, truly music to Ruggie’s ears.

“You may call me whatever you like. I know my name is quite uncommon up here.”

“Whatever I like huh…” he spilled water on her head once again, getting rid of the conditioner on her hair, getting the soap right after. “Well… do you like flowers?”

“Flowers?” She tilted her head as Ruggie started making foam with the soap, spreading it throughout Eléa’s face. “I’m- I'm unsure if I’ve seen one-” she tried to talk before he chuckled and grabbed some water to take the foam off of her face.

“They're pretty little plants that grow on the ground. You should see one once we land somewhere.” He said, scrubbing her neck without giving it much thought. “There's this one plant that I like, it's called daisy. it's tiny and pretty, and is also edible. It kinda reminds me of you.”

“E-edible…?” Eléa questioned, a bit confused by the comment, but Ruggie didn't give it much thought as he went to scrub her shoulders and arms.

“Why don't I call you that? Daisy. It has a nice ring to it, don't ya think?” He smiled at her and Daisy did the same, seemingly happy with the new nickname she was given.

“...yes. I quite like it as well.” She intertwined their fingers as Ruggie had reached her hand with the soap, and by this motion he realized what he had started doing.

He quickly got up, giving her the soap in a hurry, totally flustered. What was he thinking?? Actually, screw that, he wasn't thinking at all! If she didn't intertwine their fingers he would never have noticed that he had started scrubbing her body… what was wrong with him?

“A-anyways, scrub your whole body with the soap. I-I’ll ask Jeanne to help you getting dressed. See you later, Daisy.”

“Wait-” the ex-mermaid was cut off by the sound of the door closing. She furrowed her eyebrows and sighed, starting to scrub herself. “I wanted to ask if he could show me the flowers once we land…”

Meanwhile, outside of the ship’s bathroom, Ruggie was crouched on the ground, tail between his legs as he held his red face from embarrassment. He literally told her he would not be touching her in any way, then there he goes!! Ugh… this was all because he got carried away…

He got carried away by her voice, her beauty, and most importantly her personality and how her happy laughter filled his ears and his heart with joy. His grandmother had warned him before he went to follow Leona as his captain: “beware of the mermaids, for they can bewitch any man at any time.”

It seemed he had been bewitched by her, he was truly enchanted.

Like this is true love (i know is not quite the point of the fic, but i find wholesome whenever characters are able to be like love > lust :,))
