♚ - a memory of something paranormal
(@alex-ishvan )
It was only hunger what Alex faced in the dark ,frozen wood . Hunger that should never be . Something had been hunting in the forest of the endless mountains that winter pokemon and humans alike . Law enforcement and the ranger base had useless but that had been the norm , so Alexander tracked Alone . Alexander found it quickly , they simply fallowed the bodies. Long over streched limbs ,gaunt body ,all gray excepted the red that drenched lipless mouth and body . I was wrong , wrong in a way that made alex skin crawl .
“ what are you ?” Alex asked unable to hid the disgust from their voice . It didn’t speak of course it only ran . Alex never saw it again after that . The killing stopped that year .

The room was too big, too grand compared to the one you were used to. The bed was much larger than the one in your family estate, and still, there was plenty of room for you to move around, to pace as you flipped through the old journal that had been found on your old tutor’s person.
It had belonged to one of the old Gifted, the Lee that your own ancestor had mentioned and had later become King. He spoke of the shadow monsters, how he theorized they were the souls of the punished, of those who had attempted to cheat fate when he overheard your own ancestor try to deny to themselves that they’d seen Min’s face on the monster’s.
He spoke of powers intensifying after becoming King, then again when he was crowned.
She’d used it to summon the youngest of the Mons, the Gifted one she’d had a romance with when he was still alive. He’d told her of old family rumors, of a generation of Gifted that had written a way to summon the dead and control them.
You imagined she’d gone insane when we tried to summon him and found a monster instead.
You wondered if that meant the nonGifted could also summon spirits if they tried hard enough. Just how long had she been trying to summon him until she did? Since he died?
You chewed your lip as you skimmed it, thoughts racing too quickly for you to fully pay attention to it.
The glare of the sun against your mirror hit you in the face as you walked past the balcony doors again, forcing you to look up.
The gown you donned wasn’t as big as you thought it would be, but it didn’t feel as if it were yours. You felt like a farce, and when you glanced outside and watched the people of your kingdom entering the back gardens of your castle, you felt as if you could hear them speaking of you.
‘Unfair circumstances…. How could she even accept the crown?… That poor boy, the throne was practically stolen from him.’
A month had passed since the end of your trials, and the murmurs remained endless.
‘Their trials should just be held again. Let that poor boy have a chance at winning the throne.’
It had come as a surprise at first when you’d ventured into town disguised in a servant’s cloak and overheard a group of townsfolk gossip about the way you had won the crown. It had mattered very little to you at first until Olivia had come to your new room off duty and told you that it was Sangyeon’s fiancé who was going around spreading these sentiments.
Then, it was no surprise why you had been denied entry at the Lee estate when you’d gone to visit him two days after the trials.
You sighed as you toyed with the long ribbon tied around your waist. The two ends that hung down your left side had the emblems of the four Gifted houses embroidered onto them.
It felt like a joke to you.
You were about to be crowned, and two houses had fallen, and the other you couldn’t be sure would show.
There was a knock at your door as you ran your hands over the embellishments, flattening the ribbon against your dress.
“Who is it?” You asked.
“It’s me,” Olivia answered from the other side.
“Come in.”
Olivia came inside quietly, making sure to lock the door before speaking.
“I’m sorry to bother you before your coronation. But, I tried to visit Lee Sangyeon today—“
“You what?!”
Olivia sighed, “I went to visit him. To try to get an answer as to why you were not allowed inside. You’re the Queen, after all.”
‘My apologies, your Majesty. But, I’ve been told not to grant you access. His lordship, he does not wish to see you.’  The Lee house servant that had opened the door curtsied and shut the door before you could utter a single word.
“What—“ you cleared your throat, “What did they do?”
Unsatisfied about not being let inside, you returned to the Lee estate hours later, intent on seeing Sangyeon. But, when your carriage came to a stop in front of the gate, you found a cluster of knights standing in front of it.
“Did they let you inside?”
“No,” Olivia shook her head. “I’m sorry, Y/N. They told me he didn’t want to see me, or you, or anyone related to you.”
“It’s alright,” you smiled, hoping it didn’t look bitter, “It doesn’t matter.”
Olivia studied you for a moment, expressionless, then looked down at her feet, “I’m sorry.”
“You shouldn’t be. It’s not your fault.”
“No. Not for that. I mean, I’m sorry for trying to stop you from courting Lee Sangyeon. I shouldn’t have stopped you. It was your decision to make.”
“It’s alright. You were right. Anyway, I’m… over him. I only went to visit him because—“
“Don’t,” Olivia frowned. “Don’t lie, Y/N. I still remember the way you cried the night of his presentation ball. There’s no question about where you went. Especially after the way you started to train afterward like you’d been betrayed like you wanted revenge.”
You shook your head, “I—“
“No. You didn’t even try sneaking out after that. And the way you cried that night doesn’t begin to compare to the way you cried over him when he was carried away.”
“It doesn’t matter,” you insisted. “None of it matters.”
“Look, I don’t know what happened between the two of you. But I’m quite sure he wouldn’t just bar you from entering his home or speaking to him, especially after he threw himself in front of that monster so you wouldn’t get hurt.”
You bit your lip, willing the tears to stop before they fell.
“I don’t think it’s him stopping you from entering. I think it’s his parents, and if it makes you feel any better, I doubt they could get away with it if he knew. I did manage to get an update on his health from a maid if you’d like to hear.”
You didn’t respond, and she took it as her cue to keep going.
“He’s recovering. He had a fever for two weeks and practically spent them unconscious, but he’s doing better now.” In her silence, you nodded, thinking she was done. “I’d try to speak to him again, Y/N. I’m sure he wishes to speak to you too.”
“It doesn’t matter. It’s all ruined anyway. I told him— He knows that I only agreed to court him so I could keep my “enemy” close.”
“Oh, Y/N,” Olivia sighed.

The masses cheered, bowing and curtsying as you walked down the center path toward the backdoor of your castle, your head held high and your crown glittering in the sun.
“Long live our Queen,” Duke Kwan bellowed from the dais where you’d been crowned.
“Long live our Queen!” The people of your kingdom repeated.
You smiled at the ones closest to you, giving them gentle nods in acknowledgment. Then, sauntered into the castle where your family, the nobles, their families, and some of the Lee’s, waited, curtsying to you just the same. Two guards closed the doors behind you, and after you were done returning their curtsy, you parents rushed forward and pulled you into a hug.
“Darling,” your mother cried loudly before hugging you. “We are so happy for you. But, you better fix whatever it is you’ve done. Tonight, before your coronation ball commences.”
“Fix it,” your father hissed as he joined the hug.
“What?” You asked, confused. They had no time to respond, though, as a second later, Younghoon was pulling you away from them and the rest of your audience.
“Congratulations, Queen Y/N.” He bowed, giving you a small smile.
“Oh, thank you, Lord Kim.”
“I apologize for pulling you away from your family, but I believe there is something we must talk about.”
“You don’t have to apologize,” you shook your head, “What is it?”
“I think it best we should not get married.”
You blinked. “What?”
“I have gone ahead and canceled our engagement. I hope you don’t mind that I still came today to see you crowned, that I took the liberty of joining your family, if only for today.”
“I- I’m sorry, I don’t— I don’t think I  understand.”
“Y/N,” he smiled bitterly, “I was there the day you returned from your trials. I’m not sure you even realized I was. I saw your tears. I saw you how cried over Lee Sangyeon.”
“That was—“
“That was because you love him. You cannot deny it. You mustn’t. It’s quite painfully obvious that you love someone else. That you love him.”
“Younghoon…”
He grabbed your hand, then bowed and kissed the back of your hand politely.
He didn’t give you a moment to respond. He didn’t want it. Instead, he led you back to the group of people inside the castle, waiting to greet you.
You greeted them as politely as you could, still taken back by Younghoon’s choice. Now you understood why your parents had hissed their words into your ears.
You were supposed to marry Younghoon to solidify your Queenship, to make your rule “perfect.”
You’d just finished greeting Duke Ju and Haknyeon when you noticed the Lee family standing off to the side. They frowned, but when they noticed you looking at them, they bowed and curtsied nonetheless.
Not knowing whether you should approach them or not, you stalled. Then, remembering that they were still Sangyeon’s family and of high nobility by right, you stepped forward.
You had nearly reached them when Sangyeon pushed through them and stood in front of them. He bowed, a flinch flicking across his face.
You curtsied as quickly as you dared so he’d stop.
“Queen Y/N,” he greeted you quietly again, “Would it be alright to have a word in private with you?”
“Of course, Prince Sangyeon.”
His family shifted on their feet. He had reached out and offered his arm to you, and when you accepted it, he’d led you out of the room and out of the castle through one of the side doors.
A quick glance told you it had been blocked off to the rest of the people of your kingdom, and there was no way the knights would allow anyone to wander.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. Haknyeon’s told me about the rumors that have been circulating with the townsfolk. It’s my fault.”
“What?” You asked, tears welling in your eyes. “What do you mean it’s your fault?”
“I,” he sighed, “I broke off my engagement the day our trials began. I told her that I didn’t love her, that I loved you.” He shook his head, “I remember seeing her with my family when we made it back. I guess she hadn’t accepted it.”
“Oh,” you breathed a secret sigh of relief. “That isn’t your fault.”
“It is, and I’m sorry.”
“Sangyeon—“
“I- I know I don’t have any right to ask this. But, I wonder if you tried to visit me while I was unconscious?”
You studied him for a moment, “No. No, I did not.”
“Are you sure? The maids told me you had stopped by twice before.”
“I—“
“Before you go on, I should explain it wasn’t me who barred you from my home. It was my parents. They’re bitter and took advantage of the fact that I was in and out of consciousness, delirious.”
You watched as he ran a hand through his hair, smiling gallantly, though the laugh that followed screamed of nervousness.
“If it happens that you did visit me, but it was only because of the condition I found myself in, you needn’t have. I would have been alright. I am alright, as you can see. I bare all responsibility for what happened to me. I was the one who decided to put myself in the path of the shadow monster.”
He looked at you again, smile falling from his lips, “I still love you, but if you don’t wish to see me…. If it is what you wish…I’ll refrain from seeking you again.”
You stared at him this time. Everything that he had just said to you raced through your thoughts chaotically. They felt like dandelion seeds in the winds, cutting through everything you’d been thinking about like they were knives.
“I… I’ll understand— I understand if you don’t have any feelings—“
A single shuddering exhale escaped you before you rushed forward and grabbed him by the collar of his cloak. He stumbled forward, and just as he caught himself, you smashed your lips against his.
“I love you,” you whispered against his lips a moment later. Then, you kissed him again.
His lips worked fervently against yours. They were rough and chapped. Still, they sent shivers down your spine. Then his hands circled your waist, and he pulled you as close as he could, and you were sure he could feel your heart beating out of your chest.
“Marry me,” you said to him when you parted for air.
His eyes flew open. “What?”
“Marry me.” You whispered this time, unable to meet his eyes.
He didn’t respond. But, a second later, his fingers rested under your chin and guided your gaze to his.
He grinned, and though the sun hit him directly, you swore there was a light coming from behind him. “I would want nothing else.”
He swooped down to capture your lips with his this time, savoring them, turning each kiss into long ones.
The land shook as you kissed. At first, the two of you dismissed it, believing that it was the others kiss, turning your legs into gelatin, sapping their strength to stand.
Then it grew. It didn’t shake. It trembled and rumbled until it sounded like the earth was cracking into pieces.
Sangyeon and you were forced apart, and you yelped when you felt yourself fall toward the castle wall. Sangyeon managed to grab you by the hand, but the two of you still fell onto the grass.
You didn’t even notice the screams of your people over the cracking earth until it began to slow, and the two of you were able to stand.
“Your Majesty!” A group of knights yelled as they ran outside to meet you. “Are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Thank you,” you answered while the guests, and your family, that you had left inside followed them outside too.
“What was that?” Olivia asked while the rest of them stared at you expectantly.
“I— I don’t know.”
Then, while you flicked your gaze between Sangyeon and the others, you noticed something else in the distance. It was far, overlooking a mountain you had never seen before, one that hadn’t been there a minute before.
Another castle.
Then the land shook again, much less than it had minutes before. A loud roar from the sky, and as you looked up, your eyes grew. Around you, faces grew ashen.
“What are those?” You asked Sangyeon under your breath.
In the sky, a flock of giant lizards flew over your kingdom, brandishing their fangs and blowing fire, heading toward the other castle.

viii. revelio ignis
you want to scream, but your mouth opens and makes no sound. you want to run, but your body is frozen in your stance. everything within you yells at you to get away, but you have no control. it's almost like… you're being held against your will?
then, the door opens. your eyes first catch heeseung's, and you realize from the red glow in his eyes that he's the one keeping you from moving.
"y/n?" it's sunghoon who's the first to speak as the seven boys realize that it's you. upon seeing that it's you, heeseung stops the control, and you feel all your limbs once more. they're too heavy for you, so you drop to the ground on your knees.
"y/n!" jake moves forward through the group to crouch down to you.
line break insurance </3
"don't," you try to say as sternly as possible. your lips had almost failed you, it's like you couldn't move anything after that. the hufflepuff prefect stops with a dejected look on his face. "i-i want... answers."
but before anyone could say or do anything, you hear a hiss in the distance. everyone except you turns their heads suddenly toward the sound to find mrs. norris.
"did you see something, mrs. norris?!" the hoarse voice of the caretaker filch shouts out in a feeble voice.
"fuck," you manage to say, still relinquishing under the effects of the control.
"we're letting them in," jaeyun states quickly before suddenly picking you up, dragging you into the room, and shutting the door. you strain to look up and rest your head on the door while breathing heavily and looking at the seven males surrounding you.
"what are... all of you...?" you say between breaths when no one makes a noise or move.
"heeseung hyung..." one of them says as they all turn to look towards the oldest. heeseung rubs the back of his neck and sighs under all the pressure.
"i'm tired of keeping this a secret from y/n," jake speaks up. "for all the years i've known them, i know they won't judge us."
jay nods. "i've only really known y/n for a month now, and i agree."
sunghoon also makes a stand for you. "they're trustworthy. please, heeseung hyung, sunoo, jungwon, riki."
you can only watch as the 02z advocate for you as you're not sure if you get a say in this. after all, they were vampires, or something along those lines. of course, they want to keep their identities safe.
"i just read their mind," jungwon says. "they understand."
"i'm sorry, did you just say that you read my mind, jungwon-ah?" you're finally able to speak without the earlier limitations. amazed, you stand up from your sitting position and look at them as calmly as you can. because you know them, you know they're your friends and that all those times you spent with them weren't fake. "whatever, i'll ask about that later. anyway, what you guys are, vampires or whatever, there's a reason why you're keeping it a secret, and i don't intend to tell anyone. i know you guys are my friends, so i just want you to trust me on this and explain to me what's going on.
"especially you three," you add, pointing to the three fifth years. they just stand there wide-eyed. "you guys have been avoiding me for this weird satanic ritual, not cool, y'know!" all seven boys look around at each other and then suddenly burst into laughter, taking you by surprise. "wh-what's so funny about this situation?!"
"ahh... blossom, that's really not the way someone reacts when they find out seven guys are half-vampires," jake replies while wiping a tear of laughter away.
jay comes up to you and ruffles your hair. "satanic ritual... it's the only way we can feed without ingesting human blood, l/n."
"come on, sit down, we have a lot of explaining to do," sunghoon says with an arm around your waist to guide you to a chair while he glances at heeseung, who nods in approval.
"you really do wanna sit down for this, y/n-ssi/noona/hyung," riki points out, making you finally place yourself in the seat and look around at them again.
"so you guys are... half-vampires?" you ask, recalling what jake had said a few moments ago.
sunoo nods. "that's right. it means we can walk in the sun no problem, need less blood to function, and can even eat garlicky foods."
"right..." you mumble, recalling how the young slytherin loves to eat a variety of food, including pastas full of minced garlic. "so the blood...?"
"the satanic ritual you just saw," sunghoon cuts in while chuckling at the phrase. "it's something dumbledore, slughorn, and lupin taught us. we usually do it on the night of the full moon since the effects of the elixir i make lasts longer, but jake asked to do it tonight."
"ah..." you make a noise of realization because you're the reason why this was moved to a night earlier, glancing at the bright harvest moon that was almost full. "wait, so i get slughorn, that's why sunghoon and slughorn are extra buddy-buddy, but lupin?" you turn towards jay, your dada partner.
"lupin..." the boy under question rubs the back of his neck. "he's special too. not like us, but he also needs potions monthly. our potion though uses our own blood to satisfy our vampire needs."
"alright, that all makes sense," you say, slowly wrapping your head around the subject. "then what about special powers? i mean jungwon read my mind, and heeseung-sunbae used some weird mind control on me, so that means all of you should have something too, right?"
you see jay, sunghoon, and jake tense up at this, going silent as the younger ones step up. "we all have teleportation," riki explains. "i'm the only one who can teleport long distances and items."
"i have a stronger sense of smell and clairvoyance," sunoo brings up.
"you already know mine and heeseung hyung's," jungwon clarifies.
"jaeyun, jay, sunghoon?" you ask, connecting some dots.
"sleep inducement..." sunghoon mutters.
"memory manipulation..." jay says under his breath.
"and i have both of theirs, but i'm not as... good...? as they are..." jake mentions.
"wait... don't tell me?" you say out loud as your head starts to pang. you let out a cry, falling forward and holding your forehead as it throbs. a memory, foggy but there. it was sunghoon, he held his hand in pain before slughorn rushed him off to get it cleaned. walking to the hospital wing with jay and sunghoon, and then... darkness. you open your eyes, tears blurring your vision. "jake, i understand why, but sunghoon, jay, you two...?"
you look up to them for answers as jay clenches his fists and sunghoon dawdles with his feet. "we're sorry, y/n. really," jay apologizes with a look of shame.
"i didn't want you to find out about my identity, y/n," sunghoon begins to explain. "not only is vampire blood dangerous, but we heal quickly. if you saw my cut heal right before your eyes, what would you have said?"
"i-i don't know..." you say defeated. "but that doesn't mean you get to put me to sleep a-and...! change my memories!" you stand up from your seat as riki tries to reach out to you to calm down. "this isn't even about your identity as a half-vampire anymore, it's about you doing this to me, your friend!" jay and sunghoon flinch in guilt at your words, unable to meet your eyes.
"i'm going back, i need some time alone," you sigh, walking towards the door. "don't worry though, i won't tell a soul."
"y/n, wait," jake calls to you and stops you before you can open the door. "let me walk you back. it's safer since i'm a prefect." he notices your hesitation. "please. and then i'll give you some space."
"it's safer that way, y/n," heeseung brings up, and you reluctantly agree, knowing you can't afford to get detention nor did you wanna deal with filch and mrs. norris again.
"fine," you accept, and the room lets out a collective sigh of relief. "let's go, jake."
the hufflepuff winces at your cold tone and usage of his nickname. while all of his friends use that name with him, it sounds bad coming from you since he had gotten used to you calling him by his birth name so fondly. nevertheless, he leaves the room of requirement with you to the dark hallways of the seventh-floor corridor.
the walk is silent, but the comfort that usually comes with silence between you two is not present. it's awkward, to the point it's almost unbearable as the two of you make your way down the staircases and hallways.
"jake..." you finally say after reaching the fourth-floor stairs.
"y-yes?" he perks up upon hearing your voice.
"when were you going to tell me?" you ask. "were you... ever going to tell me?" the prefect thinks for a moment, his steps are slower. you decide that's your answer. "... forget i asked."
"w-wait, y/n," he rushes down the steps and grabs your wrist before you could take off. "please, just let me explain."
you can't help but stare at his eyes, honest and hopeful. sighing, you take your wrist gently out of his hand and continue down the steps. "you can explain as we walk. i don't want to get caught," you whisper.
"right, right..." he replies, catching up to you. "so, where do i start...? i guess i was going to tell you eventually. i just? how do you bring something like that up? would you even believe me if i told you i was a half-vampire? tell me truthfully, blossom."
your mind processes that question over and over, but you already know the answer. "no... i would probably think you were joking."
"right, but i've been suspicious lately, so i understand why you would follow me," jake mentions. "but i know that i do trust you. after all, i told you about my mom, which i should tell you, is related to me being half-and-half."
you stay silent, letting him explain as you wait at the landing for the magical staircase to arrive. "truth is, she died from blood deficiency... my dad, the vampire half of me, eventually took too much too frequently.
"... she died right in front of my eyes, telling me she was okay and to just hold her hand. shortly after, her hand fell limp in mine, and she was already dead, smiling." his voice breaks a little at the last word, and you wait for him as he takes a moment to gather himself.
"jaeyun..." you reach out to grab his hand. "i'm sorry you had to go through that."
"you finally called me jaeyun again," jake says with a melancholic smile. "you know, it's funny because i only let you call me that. nobody else has called me my name except for my mom. i wonder why?" he lets out a light, sad laugh before moving down the moving stairs, pulling you along with him as you follow along silently. "maybe it's because you remind me of her... kind, a little clumsy, always making everyone comfortable."
it seems like he wants to ramble a little more once you reach the corridor of the great hall, but someone bursts out of the hospital wing with deep breaths.
"professor?" you ask, clutching jake's hand tighter. the dada professor remus lupin stands before you. it's more like slouching actually, he can't seem to stand up straight. his scarred face looks gaunter as he heaves. "are you alright?" you move forward to go and help him, putting an arm over your shoulder as jake follows suit.
"sorry..." lupin pants. "thank you, you two..."
"lupin, i think you should just stay in the hospital wing for the night. it's not the full moon tonight, so you should be okay," jake offers. the older man looks from you to jake and raises an eyebrow at the prefect. "they know about us, but just that you're affected by the moon too."
just then, you connect the dots as a memory of boggart training from third-year flashes before you. "professor... are you a were-?"
"ah... yes, yes, l/n, i am. you were always one of my best students," lupin comments. he takes a breath before speaking again. "i suppose this has been a long night for the two of you, so do just leave me with madam pomfrey and head to bed."
you and jake do as your professor says as the resident nurse rushes to get him to sleep and taken care of, thanking the two of you and also pushing the two of you out so that you can return to your common room. the walk is silent and passes by so quickly you barely notice you made it to the hufflepuff common room until jake taps the barrels.
"after you, blossom," the male says as you crawl in wordlessly and pop out of the badger hole, waiting for him to come out. when he does, you turn away to go to your dormitory but are stopped by his voice. "did you... still want to go to hogsmeade tomorrow?"
you intake a breath of air and exhale slowly. glancing over your shoulder, you shake your head a little and give him a small smile. "gimme some time, jaeyun. as for jay and sunghoon, let's just say i need a little more time with them. so let's take a raincheck on hogsmeade."
"that's understandable," he replies while rubbing the back of his neck. "take as much time as you need, okay?" when he sees you nod, jake gives you a tiny smile of his own. "sleep well, blossom."
"you too, jaeyun." with that, you head to your dorm sluggishly, tired mentally, physically, and emotionally. and despite his good wishes, you plop into your bed after changing and are unable to fall asleep, closing your eyes and somehow feeling the sun's rays on your eyelids in a matter of minutes.

It had been a day after the wedding between two saints and his boys were begging to eat some of the left over cake that he and Marigold had managed to bring back to the Cancer Temple. In order to keep them quiet, Aspros gave in and allowed them to take a slice. Then he went to nap on the sofa, leaving the boys unsupervised for a little while. Wasn’t his fault, his boys just woke him up early.
He was snoring when Marigold waddled over, sat next to him, and started caressing his hair. Hm... that felt so good. Even though the gentle strokes had aroused him from sleep, Aspros decided to play along and continue his somewhat loud snoring even if they were fake at this point.
“Let’s hope that the boys didn’t inherit his bad side,” he heard Kardia giggle. The women had a lot of fun in each other’s company. Which was fine with Aspros. Kardia was the only person in Sanctuary that came close to being a sibling figure for Manigoldo.
“Yeah, I’ve kept my eye on ‘em recently... Nothing so far,” Marigold hummed.
Good, Aspros added in his mind. He hated his darker side the most and he sincerely wished that none of the kids inherited that from him.
“Haha, I’m sure you guys will be a happy family. For a long time,” Kardia mused silently.
“Yeah,” Marigold’s trimmed nails gave his scalp a nice scratch--and Aspros barely managed to avoid letting out a moan. Fuck, his woman knows how to work him. As she spoke, she sounded as if she was daydreaming, “A happy family. I would like that.”
...Okay, time to change the conversation before it got to a topic he wasn’t ready to hear of yet.
Aspros groan, shifting his aching back as he snuggled his forehead against Marigold’s lap. He still had his eyes shut as he comically joked in a ‘sleepy’ murmur, “I... want cake for dinner...”
There was a moment of silence before the hand in his hair patted him. “Honey, cake is for dessert.”
Oh, he knew that. But did he care? If his boys didn’t, then he didn’t either.
Aspros cracked an eye open to gaze at her, and he stuck his tongue out while playfully saying in a small voice, “The boys ate cake earlier.”
The disappointed-yet-angered expression on Marigold’s face made Kardia laugh loudly. Marigold’s hand immediately went to Aspros’ cheek and she pinched him mercilessly.
“What do you mean they ate cake earlier? Aspros, who gave them cake?” She already knew who gave them cake, so there was no point in acting innocent! Defteros wasn’t even here to blame.
“They look’ ack meh shoo achorably, thouugh--” Aspros whined, allowing himself to be abused by his partner. Ah, if she wasn’t with their third child right now, he would have tickled her in retaliation. The pinching on his cheek didn’t last very long until it turned into light slaps.
“Nooo excuses deeear! No cake for the boys unless they have been super good or if it’s dessert!”
“I can’t help it! I’m their daddy and they’ll always be good boys to me!” Aspros grinned and he rubbed his abused cheek. From down here, Marigold looked like a goddess. Gods, he loved his woman so much. He should stop delaying and propo--
“Hey, speaking of those twins, where are the boys?” the Scorpio Saint giggled as she looked at the two curiously, cutting off whatever thought Aspros was having at the moment.
Aspros and Marigold to exchange a very quick look of parental panic.

...Oh no, where are the boys?!
Luckily, that question was quickly answered when a very loud scream came from the Aries house.
Ah! Yes. Of course. They’re bullying Shion. As usua--oh, fuck.

Random Bits; A Game of Chess (5)
______________________________________________________________
"A Game of Chess" was actually the first one I wrote in the series that was based on board games but is supposed to come last in the timeline. It was very technical and pretty boring to write, at points. I played a game of chess against a computer, copied down all the moves, then used each move as a chapter. The brothers are inspired by Thor and Loki, the world mostly from Lord of the Rings, but the story I can't remember.
It started out as throw-away smut from my fanfiction days...

Kean was not happy when he was told the news. One might have even said he was furious. Arwen was sure the servants did after they fled the room when he threw the goblet he had been drinking out of against the wall. Poor Oddr turned white as a sheet while the king stormed about, shouting angrily and venting his concerns unintelligibly. Arwen waited patiently for the first bout of fire to calm, standing with her hands folded at the back of the room. It was no use trying to talk to him when he was having one of his fits. If he couldn’t even form a proper sentence, he wasn't in the mood to listen to one. Eventually, he sat back down in his chair with a huff, muttering under his breath.
“Let’s not be rash.” She said now that he would actually hear anything she said “There might be an excuse.”
“No excuse is good enough.” Kean said sharply, hitting his fist against the arm of his chair. She sighed and walked over to him.
“Come now, Kean,” Arwen said gently, resting a hand on his arm “Oddr has already explained it all to you. Our man was the first to strike, so we are really the ones who should come up with the excuse. Or, an apology.”
“I will not apologize to that sniveling coward.” Kean growled, pulling his arm away from her.
“There is no reason--”
“No reason? We send men in on a mission of peace and Cian has them slaughtered!”
“Now, you’re being overly dramatic.” She said, crossing her arms “Things have been tense for as long as I can remember. Harsh words were tossed and egos were bruised. It is not unlikely that this would happen.”
“That is why I suggested not to take the boy in the first place.” Oddr pointed out. He quickly shut his mouth when he received a harsh glare from Kean.
“I doesn’t have to go any further than this.” Arwen said “We don’t have to go into war. Kean, just forgive and forget.”
“No!” Kean roared, suddenly jumping out of his chair and making the other two jump “Cian has made me a fool for the last time! My men’s blood has been spilt and I will not sit idle! He will have to pay back this audacity!”
“He has, Kean.” Arwen put in “He has suffered, too. Two of his own perished. You know a death in his kingdom is a much greater loss than in our own.”
“It matters not.” Kean snapped “I will do anything in my power to make him pay for this strike against me.” Arwen tried to speak again, but Kean stormed out of the room before she could get a word out.
“I certainly hope he doesn’t give out any orders before he calms down a little.” She said to herself.
“One can always pray.” Oddr said flatly, then bowed and took his leave.

“A raid, Kean?” Arwen groaned, putting her face in her hands.
“We must squelch him before he comes for us.” Kean said firmly.
“You don’t even know if he’s planning on attacking.”
“He has attacked.”
“He has retaliated against our attack. Sending a second would not bode well for any peace that we try to make.”
“And why should we make peace?” Kean snapped, rising from his throne to look over a map on the long table in front of him “It’s not as if Cian has asked for it or acted as if he was repentant.”
“Repentant for what?”
“For anything, Arwen!” Kean replied “He doesn’t care what he does or who his actions affect. He is selfish and someone needs to put him in his place.”
“He might be your little brother, but you two are not children, anymore.” She said, crossing her arms “It’s not your job to discipline him. He is grown and living his own life.”
“Brother or not, he is a threat to the kingdom. He will be dealt with as such. You would not be so hesitant if your sister was causing the trouble.”
“If Cian is, then she is, too.” Arwen said with a frown “She is a part of this just as much as he is.”
“And you believe the two of them should be left to their own devices?” Arwen was silent. Kean turned away from her and continued looking over the map.
“Then, there is nothing more for us to discuss.” He said coolly “Now, we must begin arranging an appropriate party.”
“I’ll go find Oddr.” She said, then spread her large, white wings and quickly flew to the one of the windows that lined the towering walls. She had to pull them in a little to fit through, but, once outside, she was able to spread out and sore among the clouds. She didn’t forget her mission, however, and scanned the people below her. Where would Oddr be? She could fly around the entire kingdom before Kean could get a horse through the front gate, but flying at such speeds made it hard for her to find specific people. The sooner she found Oddr, the better. She might even be able to get him to dissuade Kean from making the raid he was planning.
She swooped down low over the stables, looking carefully. No sign of him. She moved on to the market place. Nothing. She started for the practice field, when she saw movement out of the corner of her eye. She turned sharply, changing her direction towards the object. Soon, she found the thing coming out of the woods between the market and the castle. It was Oddr on horseback, making his way to the castle already. She slowed down to a glide and came to fly above him.
“Oddr!” She called out, making him jump. He reined his horse in and brought it to a halt as she dropped lightly to the ground.
“Yes, your highness?” He asked.
“The king requests your presence.”
“Has he decided what he is going to do?”
“Unfortunately,” She replied “he plans to raid Cian’s kingdom.”
“To what end?”
“I don’t think he’s thought that far ahead.” Oddr shook his head and frowned.
“I don’t see any good coming of this.” He muttered.
“Neither do I.” Arwen said “He won’t listen to me, though. Perhaps you can help him see reason?”
“If you can’t, I doubt anyone can.” Oddr replied.
“You will try, though, won’t you?” She pleaded.
“Yes, I will try.” He sighed “Though, I doubt it will make much of a difference.”
“Get to the castle as quickly as you can.” She said, then took off again. She heard the hoofbeats of his horse fade as she mounted higher and higher into the sky. She shot up so high that she flew higher than even the great spires of the castle, enjoying her few moments of freedom. She breathed in deep, taking in the cool air. In the back of her mind she knew that Oddr wouldn’t be able to keep Kean from doing what he thought was necessary. He was too strong willed for that.
Besides, he was right. Cian and Kry probably didn’t have anything good in store for them. A war might be necessary to rein them back into thier control. She sighed and began her descent to the castle. She pulled her wings in, hurling towards the castle and aiming perfectly for the same window she had exited. Once through, she thrust her wings open again and fluttered gently to the ground.
“Oddr is on his way.” She announced as she walked over to where Kean was standing.
“Good, good.” Kean muttered, still looking down at his map “He could help me with this. Most of Cian’s borders are surrounded by thick trees that my men wouldn’t be able to see very well through.”
“That does sound like a problem.” She said unenthusiastically.
“The only side open enough is the side opposite of where the kingdoms meet.” Kean continued.
“How diabolical of Cian to put such a barrier in your way.”
“We’ll have to figure out a way to get across the border to attack. We want to keep the element of surprise, so we can’t have the border patrol warning anyone.”
“Of course.”
“And that’s the sort of thing I need Oddr’s strategic mind for. He can figure these types of things out.”
“Yes, you’re much more of the brute force type.”
“Once inside, I’d be able to orchestrate the fighting.”
“Yes, that’s my point.”
“Cian shouldn’t have much of a defense, seeming how he doesn’t know we’re coming.”
“I don’t think you can actually hear what I’m saying.” She sighed crossing her arms.
“We should be able to get pretty far before Cian begins a counterattack.”
“Nope. Completely ignoring me.”
“With a little luck, we would be able to do much damage. We might be able to greatly weaken him.” Kean continued to mutter to himself until the doors were throw open.
“You needed me, your highness?” Oddr panted as he hurried into the room.
“Yes, yes, come here.” Kean said, waving him over “I need your help with this.” Oddr glanced over at Arwen who just shrugged as he came forward. He looked down at the map with the king.
“The trees along the border are giving me trouble.” Kean said “I can’t figure out how we would be able to get a party through without Cian’s men finding them, first.”
“I see.” Oddr said carefully “Well, have you considered that a raid might not be in our best interest?”
“Who said anything about a raid?” Kean said, crossing his arm.
“Oh. The queen told me when she found me.”
“And she wanted you to convince me not to, hmm?” He asked, turning to Arwen.
“When you won’t listen to me, you might listen to your advisor.” She said flatly.
“I agree with her, anyway.” Oddr said “A raid is not a good idea.”
“Because of the trees, right?”
“Uh, no. This has nothing to do with trees. I just don’t believe this threat to be as great as you are making it out be.”
“Then, I don’t think I’ll be taking your advice on the matter, Oddr.” Kean said icily.
“It wouldn’t be the first time.” Arwen breathed.
“The raid is going to happen.” Kean said firmly “I wanted your help in planning it. However, if you won’t--”
“I’ll help.” Oddr sighed “Just know that I do not think this action to be wise.”
“I know it. Now, we need a group to go on the raid.”
~*~
The group had been hand picked by Kean and Oddr. They were the best in the kingdom; people Kean could trust to get the job done. He hadn’t been happy about it, but Arwen had again insisted that he stay behind. She convinced him that the group could do a fine job without him and that he was of more use in the castle. Oddr had volunteered to go in his place and keep an eye on everything. Kean finally gave in, making Oddr give his word that he’d do anything the king would. Oddr didn’t like this promise, but he made it.
So, the group was on their way to the border. Again, for three of them. It was no surprise that Kean had insisted Eoin and Cairbre go on the raid. What use was a raid without knights? Oddr had also insisted that the raid party be much bigger than the party that had taken the letter. He didn’t want to lose one fourth of the party when one man fell. The ranks had been beefed up, taking 10 well trained fighters, Oddr and the knights not included. Oddr had asked for a person of strategie, but he had been informed that we his role. He took it solemnly.
The party was solemn, too. Unlike Drest, they all knew how serious this mission was. There was no laughter and hardly any words between them. There was nothing to talk about. They were all preparing themselves for what might happen. Cian was a force to be reckoned with. No one ever knew what to expect from him; not even Kean. A raid would certainly come as a surprise to him, but would he already have a counter attack ready? Would he be able to defeat the party? Would he be so taken aback they would have no trouble? Would they have to deal with Kry? These questions couldn’t be answered until they crossed the border.
“How long until the border?” A man, Seachnall, breathed to another.
“Not long, now.” Aodhán replied.
“Lorcán, do you think we’ll be able to find any of them in the trees?” Seachnall asked to a different man.
“If we’re quiet enough and they don’t know we’re coming.” They all fell silent again. These men had seen many battles, many raids, and many deaths. However, they always knew that they could never truly know what to do until the time arrived. War was not something you could ever properly prepare for.
Aodhán had been correct. The border was coming up fast. The horses were quickly brought to a trot, making their hoofbeats infinitely more quiet. They looked into the deep, foreboding trees as the approached. The thickness of the trees was really the only way to tell Cian’s kingdom from Kean’s. The border had been a little river, but it had dried up. Kean had all the trees on his side moved further back from the border to prevent any dispute, while Cian’s continued to grow thick and tall. Though Oddr doubted that this was with war and raids in mind, it did come in handy for such things. The men couldn’t see more than a few gallops in front of them. They all came to a stop just before the line of trees.
“It’s too still.” Someone whispered “It’s not right.”
“There’s just no wind. You’re overthinking it.” Oddr quickly motioned to the men, then lead them quietly into the forest. The group was silent as the followed. The only thing to be heard was the leaves the horses scattered with each step they took. It was doubtful anyone would be close enough to hear that, though. The men made thier way through the trees, trying to keep as straight of a path as they could through the gnarled trunks and undergrowth. They would make a quick strike, then evacuate. It was just meant to cause chaos in Cian’s ranks. Just to weaken him before any real fighting began. In and out. They were all on high alert, ready to strike down anyone they came across.
They all jumped when they hear a swoosh through the air and a soft smack. There was a soft gasp and Oddr turned back to look at the men. Lorcán had a shocked expression on his face, along with an arrow. As Lorcán fell to the ground another arrow whizzed by, narrowly missing two other men. The party immediately spread out thin.
“Find me that archer,” Oddr growled.

Dropping a classic, a whim if you will, a brain bubble pop, a Kim Shin Simp Agenda™ original, in collaboration with Deadpan Is Sexy: Kim Shin, after three minutes of deliberate staring and consideration, gets up, walks all the way to where Wang Yeo is sitting, nods at his lap, hands in pockets, bearing that classic 'Kim Shin thinks he's being very smart' facial expression, and in all seriousness asks: "Is this seat taken"
@mythvoiced ♚ Lena's brain bubble pops give me life
♔ -----------
Cup of plum blossom tea rests between his hands; rather long fingers wrapped around porcelain. He goes ahead and takes a seat; grunt leaving lips in unconscious method. Eyes take a look at the caramelized-looking liquid, squinting for a moment, as if trying to form a shape out of the small flower residue floating about, before his attention gets stolen by something else --- or, rather, someone.
Even if he’s quiet, he can hear him; smell him from miles away. Gaze lifts, watching Shin approaching so casually, with a serene look that almost feels as if he’s holding something clever under his clutch. What is it? Does he have to say something? A bit of worry haunts Yeo, not knowing why Goblin decided to come so near in such a sudden way.
Shin’s nod, the way his eyes subtly drop as if to see his trousers, it makes the nine-tailed fox look down. Is Goblin about to criticize his choice of garments? Yeo frowns, not getting the gist at first; opening his mouth to ask him to be clearer, but then, the former General speaks.
   Is this seat taken.
Oh, the hold around cup tightens. Lips get pressed into a narrow line, as if trying to suppress a smile that’d betray the ongoing pretense of discombobulation. This silly Goblin, making his heart flutter over this attempt of flirtation.
Looking at Shin now, nine-tailed fox places the cup aside. A pensive stare cloaks his features, as if Yeo’s mulling over the possibilities.
Tumblr media
   “Yes, it is.”
His answer is delivered matter-of-factly. And then, before Shin can make a move (he has to catch him by surprise, doesn’t he?), Yeo leans in and slyly wraps an arm around Dokkaebi’s waist, pulling him in so he can, indeed, fall atop his lap.
    “See? It’s taken.”
Now, a smirk can’t be helped, lips tugging in a triumphant way; arm still latched around Shin, just a little further up as to surround his middle. However, that devious behavior of his starts to shift into one of being under a spell; in a daze. It’s what happens when the fox looks at the Goblin, especially when he’s so near, especially when he gets the opportunity to hold him like this. A slow blink or two; staring at the treasure in his arms.
    “Are those lips taken?”
Brows lift in subtle surprise, even if he was the one to blurt out such a thing. Quickly, his free arm goes to fetch the cup of tea, holding it up and directing it toward Shin’s mouth.
“So you can taste this, tell me if it’s too sweet or not.”
He hides his face behind Shin for a moment, closing his eyes tightly. What did he just say? A deep breath is taken, and instead of apologizing, he does another reckless maneuver --- Yeo peeks out, finds Shin’s cheek and plants a kiss atop it. No excuses, no questions, nothing; just the pure need to show him how much he enjoys his company; all of this.
“Hurry, you can’t drink it cold, it doesn’t taste the same---”

♚ // Character ; Powers
Magical Powers:
Clairvoyant – Gahyeon can momentarily see through the eyes of other people. She compares it to tuning a radio, almost as if her ‘neurological waves’ (as she calls them) have to focus in on that person specifically. Different factors can make the image appear fuzzy to her, and there are instances where it won’t work at all. Most often, she uses this ability to look through the eyes of her service dog, Minnie. With practice, this could later develop to allow her to see into a person’s past or perspective, or could allow her to temporarily influence a person at the price of being exhausted afterwards.
Non-magical Powers:
Reading braille – Gahyeon has had to learn how to do everything differently, but the very first thing she absolutely had to learn was how to read her books.

Emotional Crashes – Gahyeon tries to stay positive and happy to a fault. Sometimes this can overwhelm her and she causes more problems this way as opposed to just handling her negative emotions healthily.
Physically weak – For years, she let her condition affect her physique, and lost most of muscle mass because she felt exercising while unable to see could be dangerous. Even now, she struggles to ask people to help her with this.

Background:
Gahyeon would have considered her previous life relatively normal. Sure, it had just been her and her father and he was very interested in the stories her ancestors had passed down to their children about the ‘unseen’ world, but she woke up every morning greeted with his smile and almost infectious energy. He always made sure she started the day with a positive, can-do attitude.
It would have been easier for them to wallow in the misery of being without a mother and wife, but how could her father encourage that when his love had left him the greatest gift he could have ever asked for – his daughter. Gahyeon heard the story so many times in her childhood of how her mother knew somehow that only one of them would come out of that hospital room, and it was going to be her. He would always say with a smile plastered on his face, “she took my hand and she told me – the night before you were born – my little Gahyeon is going to be beautiful and so strong, even without me.”
She had always believed that – hell, she thought she could change the world, just as any other young child does.
The years passed, she turned 7, 8, 9… By the time she was almost 10, Gahyeon and her father had begun noticing that her vision was becoming worse and worse. She had worn glasses since she was a toddler, but as she grew older Gahyeon could feel her world closing around her. For a long while, she thought it was just… normal. Other kids wore glasses, other kids had bad depth perception, other kids couldn’t see in the dark, other kids could only see what was right in front of them… right?
Before her 10th birthday, she was referred to a specialist. They performed all sorts of tests on her – however, all Gahyeon can remember of that time is the weight of the doctor’s hand on her shoulder as he tried to explain to her that no, none of this was normal. She was special. Rare. She was diseased. Retinitis Pigmentosa, they called it. Gahyeon could barely even pronounce it, let alone comprehend the fact that, likely before she was a adult, this thing would take all of her sight from her.
By the age of 11, she had extreme tunnel vision and always had to have someone escort her to her classes. By 12, her father had pulled her out of school because she could no longer make her way through the crowds safely.
Gahyeon had tried to join her mother for the first time when she was 13. Again when she turned 15. Her best friends were her father and her therapist, and they both tried their hardest to help encourage her through this trying time.
“Your mother told me once that she would always be with you, but that it would take you a long time to really feel it.” Gahyeon didn’t understand, nor did she really want to. Her life was ruined – how could anyone, let alone a young girl, learn how to reconstruct their whole life around being blind? She felt it was impossible, and so it had to be.
At age 16, her father got Gahyeon her first guide dog. She was sweet, soft, and the first taste of freedom and independence Gahyeon had ever tasted. Minnie would often nip her hands in encouragement, and would spend plenty a dark night laying on top of Gahyeon’s stomach to help ground her. By the age of 17, she was able to go almost anywhere with Minnie’s help, and she was finally starting to blossom into a young woman with more control over her life than she ever thought possible.
“This is probably a mean question, but I’ve always wondered… Do you know what you look like?”
Gaheyon almost stopped in her tracks – she was on her first date in… well, ever. Minnie was ever present at her side, and even she was startled at the way her human had halted so suddenly.
“I… I don’t remember what anyone looks like,” she answered, the weight of her words hanging heavy on her shoulders.
That night, she cried – softly and silently so her father wouldn’t hear in the next room. Her companion was doing everything she was taught to do; comfort her, lick her face, sit on her any time she tried to get up while in her emotional stupor. For hours, she sobbed, face buried in her pillow. All she could feel was the weight of Minnie on her…
And suddenly, behind her eyelids, she could see the fuzziest image of a young woman, trembling and buried into her pillow. When she heard the flap of Minnie’s ears as she shook her head, the image blurred more with motion. Gahyeon didn’t know what to do – she could not be seeing this, and yet she can see her bedroom as it has always been mapped out in her mind. The bed was in the left corner, her desk was almost adjacent to it, her dresser was there…
And that meant the girl holding her pillow… It had to be her.
Gahyeon pulled the pillow away from her face, and for the first time in almost 8 years, she saw herself. Pale skin, long dark hair, a round face…
She cried more that night, she cried more the next day when Minnie propped herself onto her father’s legs to let her get the best view of him she could. He almost seemed unsurprised, as though this were another one of those many wisdoms his late wife had passed onto him.
Months passed, and Gahyeon had started to slowly get used to this gift of hers – Minnie was her main helper, although she did occasionally allow herself to be privy to other’s sight. Before too long, she and her father had to think about Gahyeon’s future and well being. Where could she go that she would be safe and get even the slightest bit of understanding in regards to these abilities and feelings Gahyeon had?
And then, her father remembered – albeit briefly – of his wife’s tales of a ‘safe place for the unknown in this world’…
