one of my favorite things about xfiles episodes where the killer is a human with supernatural powers of some sort is that they're always like, "lol, it's not like anyone is ever gonna catch me. who would ever believe that the horrible accident in my backstory made it so that i can now control dung beetles with my mind and make them eat the brains of my enemies on my command" or whatever, and then ol' spooky Rolls Up and just goes, "i know about the beetle army, john, so why don't you just confess?"

evil timeline where riddle school stayed true to its original concept

god i love how good a grasp djenkins and the writers and actors and everyone have on the characters. it would have been SO easy to make a stupid "blackbeard is jealous of the gentleman pirate's newfound fame" plotline, but they understand ed and his motivations perfectly. he is genuinely delighted at the little restaurant cafe thing when those people fawn over stede and don't even realize who he is. and for a while he's genuinely happy that stede is getting recognition. the only reason he starts to turn sour on it is when he begins to realize he and stede have conflicting views on staying in piracy; that stede is at the height of his fame and ed still wants retirement, and how is that supposed to work out? he's not jealous, he's scared, because he finally got stede back and they slept together and everything is roses, but there's this big, looming roadblock in their relationship that he can't see around, and that's why he panics and runs. he couldn't care less about his legacy, he just wants to be a "normal guy" and run an inn with his husband on some island away from all his trauma, and he can't do that if stede is the Infamous Gentleman Pirate. it all ties back to their beats from the very beginning

idk man, historical accuracy and like, physics might not be djenkins strong suit, but he more than makes up for it in character continuity. i am feasting and also sobbing

i fucking love how watching xfiles in order gives you such insane emotional whiplash

like for example, s1 you have ice, this amazing "the thing"-esque thriller, immediately followed by space, which is probably top ten least memorable episodes in the world. beyond the sea has so many emotional beats and insane levels of acting skill, immediately followed by fucking gender bender lmfao. the absolute mindfuck of having the duane barry/ascension/one breath trio interrupted by the 14 year old emo kid's vampiric wet dream that is 3??? unparalleled levels of unhinged decision making in that production room

anyway, i just watched colony/end game, and it ends with that poignant scene between mulder and scully in the hospital, after she put on such a demonstration of loyalty and love by ignoring his wishes and going after him and saving his life, and mulder finishes the scene by talking about how he has renewed faith in his search for truth despite his heartbreak, and it's beautiful bc in the end, isn't loyalty, love, and faith what this show is all about? -cue credits-

then "watch next episode" pops up and

what i don't understand about people who refuse to vote for biden bc of his support of israel is why they would ever think trump won't make things even worse. i know y'all's hearts are in the right place, but you aren't saving palestinians by abstaining; you are actively making their situation worse, in addition to like, everyone else who isn't a rich white man. biden's support of israel is abhorrent, but a second trump term will be catastrophic. it's not "they're both bad, so it doesn't matter." one is EXPONENTIALLY worse than the other, and everyone needs to work together to make sure he doesn't take office
