《可憐的東西》人性的壯遊

名副其實，《可憐的東西》無疑是本年度荷里活的奇葩。電影裡有不少裸露及血腥解剖場面，因此被評為三級影片。原本以為那只是一些花招噱頭，結果卻以怪誕故事和華麗設計驚豔了觀眾，更於國際影展及金球獎中大放異彩。

電影改編自蘇格蘭作家Alasdair Gray於1992年出版的同名小說《Poor Things》。繼《單身動物園》（2015）、《聖鹿獵殺》（2017）後，希臘導演Yorgos Lanthimos延續了他的荒誕詭異風格，這次更與《爭寵》（2018）的編劇和女主角再度合作。

母女的前世今生

《可》蘊含了多重的寓意，其中較鮮明的是Bella（Emma Stone飾）所代表的女性主義。有些人會將電影與另一位女導演的作品《芭比》作比較；故事同樣以荒鬧劇的形式讓主角認識現實世界，亦探討性別議題。而Bella所觸及的，比起芭比娃娃遇上的，還要更貼地一些。

在父權社會的意識形態下，女性按照或順應男性期望而生活，這可以說是主流的預設框架。

電影一開始，身穿深藍色長裙的Victoria（Emma Stone飾）從大橋躍下自殺。狂熱的科學家Godwin Baxter（Willem Dafoe飾）及時救起了她，進行一場類似復活的手術——他將她肚子裡的嬰兒的大腦移植到母體身上，利用科學創造出身體與心智不協調的Bella Baxter。

既然是復活，Bella自然就有前世今生之分。雖然大腦可以換成別個，心態也可以成長，但她（們）所面臨的性別不平等的情況，倒是沒多大改變。

Bella的「前世」是她的母親Victoria。但是，關於她過去的人生和經歷，甚至本來是怎樣的人，電影直到後半部分才逐漸揭露出來。 她明顯地受困於一段不愉快的婚姻之中，生活充斥痛苦和憤慨。從Bella與前夫Alfie（Christopher Abbott飾）相處上，觀眾或可略略意會Victoria當時所承受的抑鬱情緒。在懷孕後，她無法忍受失去自主權的生活，再加上遭受丈夫施加的心理壓迫和虐待，她感到被動和無助，因此決定投河自殺。

相比之下，Bella「今生」作為女兒則積極（或乖謬）得多。從重生的那一刻開始，她幾乎就像一張白紙，抹去了過去的認知和習得的價值觀，也擺脫社教化的規範和禮節。一切由好奇心主導身體經驗。她說話和行事都直截了當，不拐彎抹角。而且，不只是身體，她連內心也很誠實。

律師Duncan Wedderburn（Mark Ruffalo飾）計劃與Bella私奔。她對兩性歡愉和外界滿心好奇，自然跟隨他去。她的動機非常清晰，只是想盡可能地體驗更多。但是，當她違拗Duncan的心意時，他卻指控她有機心、歹毒，演活了「愛你變成恨你」的掙扎。（Mark Ruffalo詼諧的表演也完美表現了男性脆弱的自我心理。）

然而，Bella並不覺得自己有迎合男性期望的需要。她向Duncan坦率地表達自己的意見，覺得他一時破口大罵，一時哭哭啼啼，直言這種行為令她反感。這也促使她突破性倫理上的盲點，從中解放女性的身分。但要留意，電影裡不存在性疾病與避孕的概念，因此這裡性解放的涵義就變得相對簡單，直白點來說就是：我的身體是我的。

女性割禮的性別暴力

臨近結局時，電影再次以駭人的情節牽及這個標語的思想。

為了掌控Bella的一切，Alfie打算剪去她的陰蒂，徹底剝削她對身體和性的自主權，一併顯現男性在精神及生理上對女性施加的暴力。然而，對於婦女的基本人權，電影只是簡單地帶過這個情節，並沒有任何具體討論。

幾年前，另一美國電視劇《使女的故事》曾經描繪了女性割禮的相關情節，當時震撼了許多觀眾，亦使這個議題藉流行文化走進公眾視野。

根據世界衛生組織的定義，女性割禮，又稱女性生殖器切割（Female genital mutilation），泛指所有出於非醫療原因而切除部分或全部女性外生殖器，或對女性生殖器官造成其他損害的手術。這種習俗迄今仍然普遍見於非洲及中東國家，主要發生在女童及少女身上，導致永久創傷，甚至死亡。這些生命就成為了僵化性別不平等現象的犧牲品。

在巨大的恐懼面前，Bella決定以死相逼。最終，她比現實中許多女性更幸運，巧妙地躲避了這個危機，也順勢擺脫了Alfie的禁錮束縛，在這場性別權力鬥爭中獲勝。

經驗主義的壯遊現場

除了性別議題，Bella的視野還要更加廣闊。電影將Bella的旅程分為五大部分 ：Lisbon、The Ship、Alexandria、Paris和London。觀眾就像遊歷了一場貴族少女的壯遊（Grand Tour），隨著Bella漫遊各地，了解世界的運��方式。她接受了一場又一場的震撼教育，親身見��和體會過世界的背面，最終成為獨當一面的女主人。她沿途不斷質疑和批判一些人們普遍接受的「原則」。箇中牽涉的哲學論述，也值得翻看電影一次，再去咀嚼細思。

宏觀來看，她整個將人生砍掉重來的學習歷程，本質上是驗證了英國經驗主義（British Empiricism）。

相對於歐陸理性主義，經驗主義是由英國哲學家Francis Bacon等人提出，主張知識和觀念是由五種感官的經驗歸納而成，與生俱來的天賦觀念（innate idea）並不存在。

Bella嬰孩般純潔的心智，洗去了社會化的過程，正正就是另一經驗主義哲學家John Locke所形容的心靈白板（Tabula Rasa）。她將旅程中眼所見、耳所聞、鼻所嗅、舌所嘗、身所覺的，通通記錄在這塊白板上。這些經歷的事件逐漸發展成後天的知識或觀念。

要是她當初沒有將倒胃口的食物吐出來，她能掌握「抵抗」的概念嗎？

再以Alexandria的一幕為例。當Bella與友人Harry登島時，目擊了貧者的生活苦況，屍骸處處；與此形成鮮明對比的，是她自身所處的富裕奢華環境。初次面對現實中的天淵之別，嚇得她當場失控，甚至情急之下咬傷了Harry的手指。後來，她回到船上，決定將Duncan的彩金全都交了出去。這一連串經歷，慢慢使她歸納出對真實世界的認知，以及改變世界的價值信念。

由此推展下去，Bella及後從巴黎妓院的生活中，領悟出性工作者勞動自主的概念，基本上也是體現了通過感官或肉體經驗建立知識的過程，而不是按照先天的理性觀念推演出來的。

《可》確實妙趣橫生。Emma Stone及其他演員的精湛演技不在話下，而服裝、佈景及鏡頭拍攝的審美標準更是超乎預期，鋪設出一場維多利亞時代的視覺饗宴，令人目不暇給。同時，故事也蘊含著探索人性哲思的幽默寓意，兼備形式與內涵。

奧斯卡的成績單即將揭盅。《可》已在多個獎項類別中獲得提名，未知能否再取佳績，甚至問鼎最佳電影，實在叫人引頸翹望。

We were also grateful to be in Edinburgh again, to witness their wedding and also experience Scottish culture. It is truly a beautiful country, filled with friendly people. It was a small intimate wedding. We first started our hair and makeup service in the morning around 9am. https://www.facebook.com/LondonUKEuropeEngagementWedding/ We first finished the bride's aunt's hair and makeup, then moved on to the bridal one and then the groom's one. After the hair and makeup season finished we captured a simple tea ceremony, couple portrait shoot and small family shoot before leaving their Airbnb apartment and walking to City of Edinburgh Council. Their legal civil ceremony lasted 40 minutes. It may be simple, but full of joy and blessings. We can see the Cathedral right in front of us after stepping out of the ceremony location. The couple tossed the bouquet. We shot in the drizzle. After all, it was an early Spring wedding. We got some romantic and affective moments with Edinburgh's historical and natural backdrop. A Wedding Blessing Unfolds in York and Selby: A Hong Kong Couple's Journey -

We have provided wedding photography, videography and bridal hair & makeup service for a friendly Hong Kong couple in York and Selby, North-East England.

We have been to York and Yorkshire so many times before for our pre-wedding and wedding shoots especially for our Oriental Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysian couples' ceremonies, its because York is the one of most famous engagement & wedding destination for them.

Wedding Planning

In the beginning of the consultation, the couple required information about having wedding ceremonies in different countries, including Prague, England and Italy.

After providing some information about costing and the way they can get their wedding legalised, they decided to sign the civil wedding document in Hong Kong, then head to England, Selby Abbey, Anglican parish church, for the Wedding Blessing Ceremony. Selby Abbey was the church where Jay Chow, a Taiwanese pop singer get married. Many couples we knew follow Jay Chow, a trend setter, for their own pre-wedding and wedding shoot.

Except communicating with the priest, we helped to source wedding carriage, florist, decoration for their wedding blessing ceremony, as well as performing photography and videography. In the early morning, we travelled to the bed and breakfast of the couple to capture the preparation details - hair styling and makeup, getting dressed, accessories, etc.

The priests in Selby Abbey has came across countless East Asian couples due to the celebrity wedding. They are indeed very patient and easy to work with even though the cultures and expectation are so different.

Post Wedding Couple Portraits

After we finished the church ceremony, we went back to York for a change in hair styling and makeup style and took some lovely couple portraits around the city. Although the weather was rainy, windy and cold, all of us did our best to accomplish the shoot. We have taken all photos and filmed video clips around York City Walls, The Ouse River, York Minster and Museum Gardens.

End up, the couple was very happy with the wedding blessing photos and videos. Combining with the additional wedding portraits captured in York, resulted in a breathtaking visual narrative. York's timeless beauty was added to the couple's graceful photos and perfect moments.
