“Hey. You. Look at me.” Sylvia grabs her brother’s arms. He’s starting to worry too much again. “Bunny, I’m okay. I want to do this. It’d be nice to have something normal to do around here. I need this. I will tell you if I need to sit out. Okay?” She ruffles his hair.

Trying to pretend it doesn’t all still hurt. She’d gotten herself off her crutches and had mainly managed to mask the limp. Still pretending she wasn’t having issues with most people touching her. Most of the minor stuff had healed over or was nearly gone, and the worst of it had been patched up enough when she was back in civilization.

So now all that was left were the mental scars. Her own screaming, the sensation of when she’d broken inside, her desperate prayers, that was all still locked up in her head...

She clears her throat. “Okay. Let’s review just what the hell we’ve been called in to. Mysterious spike in suicides, the police said?”

"Well, the only dumbass springing to mind for me right now would be some grumpy old bastard who didn't tell me he knew my twin brother." Sylvia sets her bag down in the doorway and crosses her arms for a moment, but a smile breaks through and she shakes her head, stepping in and holding out her arms.

"Nothing happened, unless everything exploded after I left the house, but I left Melinda in charge so it's not my fault if it did. I just... wanted to see you."

“You know you jinxed us,” Sylvia’s saying as she throws her bag onto the hotel bed, pulling her hair down and going to wash her face. “You were saying last time that--”

“All the WSN cases we’ve been getting were normal, I know, I know, eh,” he answers. “Are you calling them or am I?”

“You fucking jinxed it, you get to call them.”

Laurian rolls his eyes to himself. “Sam might not answer if it’s me.”

“I’ll call him after you if he doesn’t,” Sylvia shrugs. “Try Melinda first, though, I’m gonna get a shower.”

“Mm,” Laurian answers, leaning back on his hotel bed and sighing, immediately ignoring her advice and calling Sam first.

Rubbing her eyes when she comes in the door, Sylvia quietly stops her suitcase just in the doorway, locking the door behind her and hanging up her keys once she’s gotten through all the locks.

Kicking out of her shoes to creep in, she smiles, nudging aside the sticky note on the fridge and setting it on the counter and grabbing herself a beer, leaning back against the counter in the low light to drink it.

She looks up when she hears the patter of... she smiles and just nods to Bernie in the low light, finishing her beer and quietly cleaning up after herself, pulling down her ponytail.

Was he waiting on the couch, sleeping? Hmm, didn’t look like it this time, and it impresses her, but she smiles to herself. Good. She’d prefer it to having to get him to bed. So she goes to their room, smiling when she sees him, changing into her PJs and trying to quietly climb into bed without disturbing him.

“Still, like, really creepy,” Heather shudders. The building seemed much, much more labyrinth-like from the inside, she thinks.

And it’s clear the others agree. “Aye. I strongly advise against splitting up,” Lily remarks softly.

“Guys, we’ve been on so many weird cases at this point,” Sylvia shakes her head and rolls her eyes. “Just following up on the weird disappearances and noises and it’s over with again.”

“Some of us aren’t detectives,” Sammy huffs, annoyed, reaching down and fixing the strap on her heels.

Sylvia pauses, glancing around at the rest of them, leaving this for someone else to address.

“I know, I know. Direct result of my curse. That means he’s going to do something else to Sam.”

Sylvia rolls her eyes and shakes her head at the camera as Sam asks the usual question. “I cannot wait to see what bullshit you’ve got for us to delve into today.”

But she glances behind the camera at Melinda, who is... definitely not looking at either of them. She follows her gaze and jumps to her feet at the smoke. “Oh, shit--”

As it clears-- she freezes, staring blankly at the group in it.

Mel coughs as the smoke clears. “Fucking shit-- did NOT expect that--”

“You know what? I hate it, I hate everything I’ve done that’s led me to this point,” Syl is saying, waving her hands in front of her face to clear the smoke-- opening her eyes and seeing the other three, pausing. “...new problem.”
