엄마 아빠 다 지방에 있으니까 못올라오고 연주회날 엄마 아빠 진짜 중요한 일이 있었음 부모님도 오고싶어 하셨는데, 그 일정을 바꿀 수가 없어서 미안하다고 하시고 못오심 솔직히 괜찮다고 말했는데 좀 속상했음

대학와서 첫 연주고, 드레스 입은 연주도 오랜만이고, 부모님께 나 연주하는거 잘 안보여드려서 이번이 기회였는데 솔직히 준비한거랑 연주한거 보면 안보여드린게 다행인거 같기도 하고.. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㅠㅠ 아무튼 난 엄마 아빠 없는게 좀 이해되지만 난 좀 속상하고 그렇다고요!

카세트 괜히 버렸나. 라떼는 중딩 때 카세트 테이프가 5000원이고 CD가 10000원이었다, 이 말이야. (직업 병 때문에 '5,000원', '10,000원'이라고 쓸 뻔) 앤디 인스타에 올라온 거. 너무 예뻐서 캡쳐. 내가 락(Rock)만 파서 다른 장르는 모르겠는데 락만큼 리스너들한테 팬 서비스 하는 장르도 없는 듯하다. Vinyl과 테이프가 영원히 끊기지 않을 장르가 있다면 그건 락일 듯.

앤디네 밴드(RIDE) 내한 한데요, 여러분. 올해 '인천 펜타포트 락 페스티벌'에 라인업에 올라왔더라고요. 가면 갈 수 있는데 갈 욕심이 안 난다. 'RIDE' 노래 중에 아는 건 'Vapour Trail' 밖에 없거든. 몇 년 전에도 못 봐서 통곡을 해놓고는. 근데 또 몇 년 뒤에 올 밴드라. 미련 없이 패스. 아무리 좋아하는 밴드라도 떼창 못하면 콘서트 가도 못 즐겨.

사실 리암이랑 노엘(+겜+크리스) 온다고 해도 (나 혼자) 골치 아플 것 같다. 퇴근하면 못 쉬고 티켓팅 연습해야지, 티켓팅 하는 당일엔 PC방 가야지, 수시로 어플 들어가서 남은 자리 확인해야지, 콘서트 당일엔 아침 일찍 가서 굿즈 사려고 5~6시간은 기다려야지, 그러다 저번 노엘 내한 때처럼 1시간인가 2시간 기다리는 일 생길 걸 염두에 둬야지, 빡침 다스려야지, 막차 탈 시간 체크 해야지, 화장실 가서 내가 산 티셔츠로 갈아 입어야지, 떼창 할 가사 다시 복습해야지, 실시간으로 취소 표 확인해야지, 그날 스케쥴 쫙 비워놔야지... 아, 그 노동. 일단 티켓팅이 대학교 수강 신청 뺨 치는 스릴감을 느끼게 해준다. 그냥 영국 가서 만나는 게 더 편할 듯. 오지 마... 아냐, 와... 오지 마... 와.....

리암이랑 노엘은 콘서트 때 진짜 멘트가 없다. 진짜 망부석처럼 노래만 부른다. "너희 나라, 독일이랑 축구 경기한 거 최고였다"고 노엘은 그랬고 리암은 "Fucking" 뭐 어쩌고라 그랬는데 못 알아들었고. 일단 노엘은 확실히 칼퇴 해서 사인 받을 건 생각 안 해야 되고. 리암 보려면 아침 일찍 동 트기 전에 올림픽 경기장 서성이면 운 좋게 만나서 셀카는 찍을 수 있겠고. 난 지하철 막차 타느라 '푸 파이터스(Foo Fighters)' 공연할 때 리암이 뒤에서 구경하는 거 카메라 잡힌 것도 몰랐다.

Part 3/20

In the previous chapter: After staying in bed for the whole day, Jooheon agrees to eat the food Kihyun made. As Kihyun prepares and reheats the food, I.M. tells Jooheon the change in plans for their end of the year joint performance. 

Disclaimer: This is 100% fictional and my own story. It is unrelated to the actual events and real persons of Monsta X and Starship. In regards to this particular fic, I’ve created new K-Pop groups (they don’t exist) so I don’t have to study up on other people and to avoid other complications. Parts will be written in Korean with English translations. I did not major/study in English/Korean, nor was I ever strong in English/Korean grammar, so there will be grammatical mistakes. This fanfic is written in third person and past-tense for ease of writing.

“괜찮아, 나도 그렇게 하는게 나을 것 같아.” (Translation: “It’s okay, I think doing that is also better.”)

Shocked, the manager stuttered, “ㅇ-어?? 괜...괜찮다고?” (Translation: “H-huh?? It’s… okay?”) The other members also stood staring at Jooheon with confusion, with the exception of I.M., who squinted at the unfolding conversation. He wasn’t sure what to make of Jooheon’s approval after his conversation with him earlier.

Jooheon, almost too calmly, replied, “어, 진짜 괜찮아. 곡은 뭘로 바꿀 건데?” (Translation: “Yeah, I’m really fine. What are you switching the song to?”)

Still confused by Jooheon’s seemingly calm attitude and peaceful tone, the manager only managed to squeak out, “에픽하이의 <ONE> 할거야.” (Translation: “Epik High’s One.”)

“음… 그럼 랩은 우리가 하고... 그 윤진이란 가수가 중간중간 노래하고?” (Translation: “Mm… then we do the rap... and this Yoonjin singer will sing in between?”) Jooheon nodded his head as he seemed to be imagining the performance. The other members smiled nervously while the manager quickly nodded his head to confirm the logistics. Though they weren’t sure if he was really okay to do the performance, they hoped that Jooheon’s professionalism he seemed to be showing at the moment would last until the end. There was also a few months for his emotions to settle down, but little did they know, a dark idea was brewing in his mind.

“한다고 했데!!” (Translation: “They said they’d do it!!”)

“...”

“아… 오빠, 반응좀!!” (Translation: “Ah… Oppa, reaction please!!”)

Yoon sighed and monotonously replied, “우.와.좋.겠.다.” (Translation: “Wow. Must. Be. Nice.”)

Yoonjin frowned and asked, “아니, 뭐가 문제인데? 내가 그렇게 존경한 선배님들과 같이 무대 설수 있다는게 어디야!!” (Translation: “What’s your problem? It’s amazing how I can stand on the same stage as the seniors I respected all this time!!”)

“뭐… 그건 네가 좋을것 같은데… 원래는 슬아랑 같이 하는 무대였잖아. 그리고 슬아랑 몬스타엑스 선배님들이랑 친한데 기사 터지고 나서 너랑 바뀐거 잖아. 거기서도 어쩔수 없이 널 받아들인걸거야.” (Translation: “Well… that sounds nice for you but… originally it was supposed to be a performance with SeulA. Also, SeulA and Monsta X-sunbaes are close with each other but they switched with you because of the news. They probably accepted the switch because they also had no choice.”)

Yoonjin pouted, staring at Yoon with a hint of irritation. It’s not like she didn’t know that, and she knew she was just a last minute substitution. There were also many fans who were looking forward to the two male rappers of Monsta X to perform with a female rapper, but Yoonjin tried to look at things positively. She muttered, “그래도… 노래실력으로 놀래키면 되지…” (Translation: “Still… I can surprise them with my singing skills…”) She glanced at Yoon, timidly asking, “그치?” (Translation: “Right?”)

However, he merely raised an eyebrow and shook his head. Before he could say anything more, a voice boomed into their practice room,

“당연하지!!” (Translation: “OF COURSE!!”)

Both Yoon and Yoonjin turned around -- they saw SeulA, bundled up in a hat, sunglasses, mask, scarf and coat, standing at the doorway. Behind were the other members of Corel-P, JinA and Shin.

SeulA ran over to Yoonjin and hugged her. As she buried her face into Yoonjin, she said, “언니가 미안해… 이런 스캔들로 너의 실력을 의심하게 만들어서…” (Translation: “I’m sorry… I made you doubt your ability with my scandal…”) She then turned to Yoon and barked, “야, 그리고 넌 뭐야!” (Translation: “And what’s up with you!”)

Yoon simply shrugged while walking over to talk with Shin and JinA. Yoonjin laughed as SeulA growled at Yoon and patted SeulA’s back.

“아니야 언니, 솔직히 윤오빠 때문에 그랬지, 언니탓이 아니야. 언니가 지금 제일 힘들잖아. 그래서 미안하다고 안 해도 돼.” (Translation: “No, unni, I was only like that because of Yoon-oppa, it’s not your fault. You’re having the most difficult time right now, so you don’t have to say sorry.”) She said as she smiled, making SeulA smile softly back at Yoonjin.

JinA tackled the two and squeezed herself in between. Like a true maknae, she loved being in the center of attention. She faced Yoonjin and poked her as she giggled, “그래도 윤진언니 좋겠네-- 몬스타엑스 선배님들 엄청 좋아하잖아! 더더욱 주헌선배님 그렇게 좋아한다고 맨날 말했잖앜큭하하핳” (Translation: “Good for Yoonjin-unni though-- you love Monsta X-sunbaenims! And even more you always talked about how much you like Jooheon-sunbaenim hahaha”)

“야! 내가 언제… 존경한다고 그랬지…” (Translation: “Hey! When did I… I said I respect him…”) Yoonjin looked away, blushing, while JinA continued to laugh and tease her. They both failed to notice SeulA stiffen during the exchange.

On the other hand, Shin noticed Yoon pause midway into his sentence. He asked, “윤. 윤아! 야, 왜그래?” (Translation: “Yoon. Yoon! Hey, what’s wrong?”)

Yoon’s head snapped up and he looked at Shin momentarily. However, seeing the dark circles and the deepening eye bags on Shin, Yoon shook his head and responded, “아니야, 갑자기 할말을 까먹었어.” (Translation: “No, I just forgot what I was going to say.”)

Shin chuckled, “할아버지야 뭐야” (Translation: “Are you a grandpa or what”) He then turned to Yoonjin. “아, 윤진아, 그래서 곡은 뭘로 바꿨는데?” (Translation: “Oh, Yoonjin, so what song did you switch to?”)

Yoonjin managed to pull herself out of the tight circle to answer. She chirped, “에픽하이 선배님들의 ONE 부르기로 정했데.” (Translation: “It was decided to be Epik High-sunbaenim’s <ONE>.”)

Shin nodded at the solid choice. “선배님들이랑 한다고 쫄지말고 평소대로 열심히 해봐. 너 노래 잘하는거 우리 팬들하고 우린 다 아니까.” (Translation: “Don’t be scared just because you’re performing with sunbaes and work hard like usual. We and our fans all know you’re good at singing.”) Smiling warmly, he continued, “그럼 언제부터 녹화하고 연습해?” (Translation: “So then when are you recording and practicing?”)

“춤은… 없지? 언니 춤 잘 못추잖아.” (Translation: “There’s no… dance, right? You’re not very good at dancing after all.”) JinA butted in with a reality check.

Yoonjin smiled bitterly as she replied, “춤 있을지 없을지는 확실히 모르는데 없겠지…그리고 녹화는 한 10일 이따 가능할것 같다고 그랬나봐. 그때까지 내 파트 열심히 연습해야지…” (Translation: “I’m not sure if there will be a dance but probably not… also I think they said they’re available to record in about 10 days. I’ll just have to practice my part until then…”)

“그럼 같이 무대 연습은 언제 할거야? 우리 연습실에서 할거야?” (Translation: “Then when are you guys practicing together for the performance? Are you going to do it at our practice room?”) SeulA blurted out sharply. JinA jolted at her slight hint of urgency in her tone, but also considered it could have been because SeulA had been silent for awhile now. It seemed the others didn’t think much of it either.

Yoonjin pondered for a moment before shrugging, “그건 아직 얘기 못 들어서… 아직은 몰라. 녹화하고 그분들 스케줄에 맞게 정할것 같아.” (Translation: “I haven’t heard about that yet… so I don’t know yet. I think we’ll set it to their schedule after recording.”)

JinA continued to tease Yoonjin while Shin and Yoon laughed at them play around. Contrary to the lighthearted atmosphere the rest of the group had, SeulA stood apart, staring grimly at the ground.

수영 대회에 나간다. 거창한 대회는 아니고 망상해변에서 열리는 자유로운 대회다. 다양한 종목이 열리고 1인 2회 이내로 선택할 수 있는데 나는 경쟁으로 나가려다가 시작한지도 얼마 안된놈이 오기를 부리면 몸만 상하고 재미도 없을 것 같아서 비경쟁으로 택했다. 수영장에서 처음 대회 포스터를 봤을 때는 흥미로운 피사체가 많을 것 같아서 사진이나 찍으러갈까 했었다. 그러나 바다에서 멀리까지 헤엄친다는 점과 몇 백명의 사람들과 숨죽이다가 준비 땅! 하는 그 긴장감 속에 있는 생각을 하니 설레어져서 그 날 바로 참가 신청서를 내버렸다. 내가 참가하는 종목은 총 거리 1km에 비경쟁. 반환점을 돌고 다시 돌아오는 방식이다. 우리 강습장 기준으로 한 번 돌면 50m이니까 스무 번 돌아야한다. 참고로 나는 쉬지 않고 다섯 번 돌면 기진맥진이다. 낄낄 재미로 하는거지만 이왕 하는거 체력 기르고 잘 안되는 영법 자세는 제대로 연습해야지. 하다가 못하겠으면 개헤엄이라두 쳐야지 개헤엄 종목이 있다면 아마 내가 일등일거다 🏊🏼
