what they look like: In his default hybrid state, he's little! Tiny little body with a big bobble head, the illusion helped by the roundness of his post-ts hat and his antlers jutting out the side. It looks like if he fell over he'd be too top heavy to right himself again. His blue nose, one of his most distinctive features in years past, is somewhat overlooked compared to everything else.

His outfits change frequently, and are almost always picked out by either Nami or Robin.

what they smell like: Like a reindeer. Also like medical grade santiser and herbal medicines, because he is a doctor and keeps his infirmary space sterile and well stocked.

what they taste like: Again, like a reindeer.

what they sound like: High pitched, childlike and easily affected by his emotions. Anger, excitement, fear, glee... Just about any feeling pushes his sound up in both pitch and volume.

what they feel like: Soft! Chopper is picky about the state of his fur and quickly becomes upset if anything gets stuck in it, so he and the others help to make sure it's properly washed and brushed. His antlers are covered in fuzzy velvet when they're in the regeneration stage of the shedding process, but otherwise feel like hard bone.

About My Self Ship (AriHan):

While in Morioh for a research trip, I met Rohan at the waterfront. We ended up talking and he offered to help with my research on the landmarks.

We fell in love over our months together and got engaged before I was supposed to leave at the end of the summer (spoiler: I didn’t leave 😌) We got married Jan 30, 2020 and our daughter Eliana (Ellie) was born May 7, 2021!!

Rohan just finished teaching art classes at University this year, Pink Dark Boy finished its first anime season. Currently our focus is on the SPW Foundation branch in Morioh (made on the land/hotel Rohan inherited from his grandmother).

chopper rarely sleeps alone. he starts off in his own space, but at some point in the night he almost always migrates towards someone else to flop on top of them. part of it is a comfort thing, since he missed them dearly during their two years apart and likes staying as close to them as possible, but also ???

they're warm, he's soft, and he generally feels safer knowing that he's sleeping beside a trusted friend

chopper's antlers shed in november. the side with the brace is cast and grows back, but the damage was so extensive that that side is permanently weaker. without the brace there to steady it, it could snap back off again

luckily, the shedding-regrowth itself is made quicker thanks to his devil fruit interference, so they'll back to normal within six-eight weeks rather than the months a normal reindeer cycle takes. however! the entire process is itchy and very uncomfortable, and there's not a lot he can do besides complain wait it out and try to distract himself

chopper loves sitting on people's shoulders. anytime a friend's sitting down or standing still for a couple seconds too long, chopper is sprinting 🏃🏃🏃 full speed towards their direction and Demanding to be picked up

WHAT THEY SMELL LIKE.  Aside from the obvious reindeer and seawater smells, Chopper usually carries around a pretty clinical scent. He spends a lot of his time sanitising his infirmary space and every tool he uses, and the constant exposure to the disinfectant makes it cling to his fur.

HOW THEY SLEEP ( sleeping position, schedule, etc ). Chopper sleeps on his back when he's alone, but he prefers to sleep on another person's chest or curled against their side. As for schedule, he keeps the exact times flexible to account for nights where he has patients to attend to or time-sensitive medicines to prepare, but he’s careful to give himself enough time to get a full eight hours sleep.

WHAT MUSIC THEY ENJOY. Brook's music is the obvious answer, but in truth Chopper can enjoy most music. In terms of preferred genres, though, he'd be a big fan of upbeat, easy-listening bubblegum pop.

HOW MUCH TIME THEY SPEND EVERY MORNING GETTING READY. Barely any time at all. Though his fur is thick and in a perpetual winter coat, it doesn't shed like your typical reindeer would. This reduces the need for brushing - he does it at the same time he bathes, usually - and means that all he really needs to do in the morning is get dressed and pull on his hat.

FAVORITE THING TO COLLECT. Plants, specifically their leaves. Though not all of them will have a common medical use, he'd rather be overprepared than need something rare and not have it.

LEFT OR RIGHT-HANDED. Ambidextrous. Reindeer don't have side dominance.

FAVORITE SPORT(S). Anything with a ball, honestly. Big fan of ball games, is Chopper.

FAVORITE TOURISTY THING TO DO WHEN TRAVELING. Explore! Though they usually hear about any famous landmarks or rumoured treasures before they reach the island, it's always good to have a look around for yourself. Chopper often goes with Robin to see if there's any interesting history she can share with him, and of course he loves listening to Usopp's stories of all the great (fabricated) adventures he had last time he was here.

FAVORITE KIND OF WEATHER. Snow, to no one's surprise. It's what he's adapted for.

THE CARNIVAL / ARCADE GAME THEY ALWAYS WIN WITHOUT FAIL. That one game where you have three balls and have to knock down a stack of, say, ten cups. Chopper's excellent at finding the weakest spots in the stack, and has won with a single throw before.

I wouldn't say he lacks confidence. Chopper's goal is, after all, to become the miracle cure, and I don't think he'd have set out on this journey if he didn't truly believe he had the skills necessary to do it. He's very self-aware when it comes to any gaps in his knowledge or expertise, and while those are things he knows he needs to address before they can become a problem, he doesn't let this impact his overall confidence. He's fine, he's learning alongside the rest of the crew, and they trust him as their doctor. That's all the reassurance he needs.

He does have a tendency to panic, though. But that's less of a confidence thing and more of an instinctual "holy FUCK my friend is hurt ;A;" emotional response. It happens when injuries or illnesses are kinda thrust upon him without warning, rather than coming at a time where he's learned to expect patients (such as after a battle).

would chopper dress as zoro for halloween?

oh absolutely he would! if movie 6's fashion choices are anything to go by, he already has the earrings (technically antler-rings) needed, and the rest of zoro's outfit wouldn't be too difficult to find.

his "swords" are three big sticks he found while exploring the last island they docked at. they're all approximately the same size, so the illusion kinda works if you don't think about it too hard, and he's very proud of this find. a zoro costume simply wouldn't be complete without them!

Thanks to Drum Island's eternal winter and the evolutionary needs of the reindeer that lived there, Chopper doesn't shed his fur. Unlike most reindeer, who have a winter coat and a lighter, summer one, Drum's population would have frozen to death had they followed this pattern. Instead, they relied on their thick, double-layer winter coat to keep them warm year-round.

This is excellent for survival in a colder climate, and it has helped Chopper fluff up his Guard Point far beyond what should be possible, but it's a bit of a pain to deal with in normal day-to-day living.

The cons: It puts him at heightened risk for heat-related illness if he doesn't monitor himself efficiently and limit his sun time whenever the weather gets warm.

The pros: ...His fluff is super soft, though. Like, super soft.
