The heritage of Serena’s family, specifically the family of her mother’s side, is a long line of powerful trainers and Mega Evolution specialists/masters. Her earliest and most direct ancestor, Celie Aralie, is regarded as the ‘mother of Mega Evolution’, having been the first woman in Kalos to Mega Evolve a pokemon (and being the second person to do so overall), as well as being the one to come up with the idea for the Tower of Mastery. This lineage is associated with being able to bond quickly and deeply with their partner pokemon, an important caveat for Mega Evolution and being a respected trainer overall. They have a deep, innate understanding of pokemon and can connect with them faster than the average person.

The Aralie family hailed from wartorn Kalos, pulling themselves out of death and poverty and focusing on harnessing the power of their bonds with pokemon, which later funneled into Mega Evolution. Serena’s family has lived in Kalos for the past three-thousand years, and Celie’s own children would go on to become the figureheads of the Tower of Mastery following the death of their mother, and later on their father. They worked to preserve the legacy of Mega Evolution and the history, passing on the knowledge to those who proved themselves worthy, just as their parents did.

As time progressed, the Aralie family held strong positions in Kalos, with her ancestors holding some of the first positions in the Elite Four when an actual league was established, and others holding brief titles as Gym Leaders later on as well. Some of the Aralie family opt to work with pokemon in other ways, immersing themselves in the natural habitats to study and learn more about the pokemon that they walked alongside. Others opt to put themselves in more nurturing roles for pokemon, similar to rehabilitation.

The Aralie family, with all the strong trainers they had, still fell back to the Tower of Mastery to uphold it as Celie did. Some focused full-time on Mega Evolution, taking care to tend to the tower and all of its students, while the more battle-adept focused on upholding their positions in the region’s League.

About 500 years ago, part of the Aralie family name turned into the Bellegrade name, and aura prowess became a small staple of the family. On rare occasions, such power skipped a generation, but it was something that was passed on more often than not. The Bellegrades waned slightly as far as interest in Mega Evolution went. Some of them did take up learning the art and perfecting it, while others had entirely different interests like those of the arts, philosophy, and mythology, with many scholars coming from the Bellegrade line. Old philosophical texts and writings along with mythological research with the Bellegrade name on it exist, but are few and far between due to the age of such items.

Mega Evolution as a whole remained a huge interest in the other part of the lineage, with what remained of the Aralie name still tending to the tower and passing on the title of the tower’s master to their children, and so on, even to present day with Gurkinn and his granddaughter, Korrina.

The Bellegrade family name would shift once more into the Beaumont name 500 years after that upon the marriage of Grace’s parents. The Bellegrade name belonged to Grace’s grandmother, who kept her name upon marrying her husband. Grace’s grandmother was the only one in her family to treat her with decency and respect, and was the driving force for Grace to change her last name to Bellegrade when she was able to do so. Grace, while having the potential to be a strong trainer, went the route of a Rhyhorn Racer, while her sister became a top contest star overseas.

And then there was Serena, becoming the first person in her family’s history to become Champion, while further learning and becoming proficient at Mega Evolution on the side. She knows of her heritage as a Bellegrade, but anything regarding the Aralie family is unknown to her.

🌹What’s considered “romantic” in their society? How does that impact their relationships?

so I have to admit, I haven't done a ton of cultural work on Faerie because 1) I think it lends itself to a sort of weird, inconsistent nonsense that I would like to lean into, and 2) I don't have the patience for extensive worldbuilding lmao. that said, I do know the weird nonsense means romance and courting are, by and large, extravagant and basically limitless. Orion has assimilated into more mortal society very well, but still clings to a sense that romance ought to be dramatic.

💎Would they want to propose to someone, or be proposed to?

I'm not sure he'd feel the need to get married in the traditional sense tbh. but a partner proposing to her would of course be so, so flattering and affirming* that she would almost certainly accept it. he would enjoy all the fuss and attention of getting married of course, but the ceremonial aspect doesn't hold any significance to him. otherwise, sooner or later she would want to present gifts of some kind as a symbol of devotion, which could be seen as a proposal in a way.

*he really doesn't think anyone would consider her "marriage material" lol

🤷‍♂️Would they be happy without romantic love in their life?

oof this is actually tough to answer. there are scenarios where he could be, totally. but what he wants is such a deep, committed (read: obsessive/codependent) kind of bond that is easier to cultivate in a romantic relationship than in a platonic one? like, it seems more unlikely that she'd find someone who was fine with her complete, endless devotion but also wants to keep it nonromantic (okay, now that I put it that way I realize that DOES describe his relationship with Madrigal, but uhh what they have together is not exactly happy, either lmao).

What to expect: I’m currently drafting my first novel, so I’m a bit of a rookie to the writing ropes. My learning process is being documented through the blog—this time three months ago, I didn’t know what a comp title or a conlang was! I especially love worldbuilding and character development, and I’m always down for ask days and tag games (even though it takes me forever to answer, since college is kicking my ass). Don’t feel limited to ask days- I always welcome random asks, messages, and chatting! Moodboards, aesthetics, and character playlists are some of my favorite things. I’m slowly branching into writing nsfw content. 

I’m a high fantasy writer—I like the freedom of creating a new world and not being constrained by the rules of ours. That said, I’m also a history major, and that bleeds through into my writing a lot (my main WIP is Ancient Rome inspired!). I love writing about love, and most of the time I’m a sucker for a happy ending. The romantic subplots of my series are my pride and joy.

In terms of reading, I love fantasy, historical fiction, fairytale and myth retellings, and anything in a royal setting! I’m open to almost anything, though!

Now, onto the WIP!

My main WIP is an adult fantasy series called City of Marble.

+ Ancient Rome inspired fantasy world, with some Italian Renaissance influences

+ Soft magic systems, court politics, and traveling around a beautiful fantasy world

+ I love my very smart characters who are also incredibly dumb. I’ve got at least five of them.

+ I am weak for in-universe writings of any kind. I’m slowly planning epigraphs for every chapter.

The main CoM trilogy focuses on my MC, Novellia, and starts with The Traitor’s Heir.

Novellia de Rege grew up hunted. Between being born magical in the hostile nation of Circi, and her mother’s exile leaving her alone with her vile father, she had always had a target on her back. For a while, she’d found safety hidden away in the country, until her brother betrayed her by exposing her powers to the tyrannical regime of South Circian Imperatore Basilio. Forcibly separated from her family, and alone in dangerous territory, things seem bleak. She meets and forms a bond with Northern Imperatore Enrico, and his niece Livia, but this comes with it’s own set of problems. Even in the less violent North, aristocrats don’t want the taint of associating with sorcerers. If Livia learned her secret, it could be her end.

Exile’s Garden - ‘Tween the World of the Living and Dead

Nestled in the middle of the living world and the afterlife is a path. It is long, winding, and made of cobblestone. It is a realm of ethereal beauty and peace, though a solemn sadness hangs in the dark air - for this is where spirits are ferried from the living world, to their next life.

Exile’s Garden is realm that acts as a gateway, and is a place that only Yveltal can access unless he were to bring someone along; though this is not advised for a multitude of reasons that will be explained later.

The path found in the realm is flanked with flowers, hundreds and thousands of them. These flowers are eternal flowers, colored a deep black and red, resembling the god of death himself. Never to wilt or die, the flowers can exist in the most treacherous of places, void of light and water and may still thrive. They truly are eternal in every sense of the word, and these flowers have existed in Exile’s Garden for millions of years, some for even longer, having originated from this realm. 

They are the only plantlife found in the realm beyond the trees, spindly branches and dark wood covered in pristine, pure white leaves. The leaves fall like snow, withering and dying days after hitting the ground. Along with that, vines snake their way along the trunks of the trees and further beyond that, colored an almost black, deep green.

The only source of light are glowing orbs hung suspended along the path, cloaking parts of the path and Exile’s Garden in a glow. Forlorn spirits that had accepted their death and made it that far, but did not want to continue, also give off sources of light.

A river flows through the land, cutting across the path. A wooden bridge connects the path where the river intersects. The waters are dark, darker and deeper than the night sky, and makes no noise as it flows. Drinking these waters gives instant and pure bliss to those who taste it, washing away all sadness and anger - however the water is addicting. It becomes hard to leave the riverbank, wanting nothing more than to drink, and drink, and drink. Those who tempt the fate of the river are doomed to be stuck at its side for all eternity - the most fanatic of people immerse themselves in the water entirely, forever stuck at the murky bottom and reaching up to the surface endlessly.

The areas outside of the path, outside the soft glow of the lights, are perhaps the most dangerous of all in Exile’s Garden. These areas are why Yveltal is hesitant to bring anyone alive to this realm. Echoes of voices can be heard beyond the trees, a siren song beckoning those to heed its call. The voices are different for all who hear them, being the voice of their loved ones. Their family, their friends, their lover, their children... whether these voices are of those still alive on the other side, or are of those who have long since been deceased. Yveltal does what he can to sway spirits from being fooled, but some don’t listen and venture out.

The darkness that is beyond the trees is such a deep, pervading darkness, that it strips one of all their senses, utterly depriving them of all rationality. All sense of direction is lost, all sight, all hearing. It is intense, and those who wander beyond the light are lost for all eternity, never to be found, seen, or heard of again. A lost soul damned to wandering the darkness forever, tricked in their moment of weakness by hearing what they want to hear again the most - their loved ones. For one, final time.

Eventually, the path does reach it’s end. The end of Exile’s Garden, the end of the world. There, the very land drops off steeply and endlessly, a dark void. To him, it is merely an endless sky, with glowing souls cascading up and beyond where he can see... like lanterns floating away in the night. But to those departed, they see the afterlife. They see whatever awaits them beyond where Yveltal can go - at the end of Exile’s Garden.

In light of Blaseball officially shutting down, I just want to say thank you to @thegameband and to all of the fans for creating this wonderful experience. I may have been a late comer to this fanbase but in the short time I really let myself get invested, I was blown away by how much lore the fans have directly contributed to this game and by the hundreds of artists who were able to take a list of funny names and a smidgen of statistical data and breathe life into these players and teams. I was especially blown away at the complex worldbuilding teams such as @coremechs had created and how accommodating and inclusive every team has been to newcomers. I'm glad I was able to contribute my own fan art during the brief Coronation Era and while I can't tell if I'll be as active in making fanart as I was in the past, I've met a number of great people on Discord and I will definitely try to keep in touch. Life has been very stressful for me lately and finding out about this while at work was a pretty big blow to me. [Joel] also finally understood why Pixandria lit lanterns and candles for the dead, and the thought would later make him huff. Pixandrian customs were weird, yet here he was, finally considering them for their worth. Maybe it really did have to do with age.

have this paragraph of an au me and some others came up with, set in Empires season 1!! the premise (and title) of the au is 'Rosebling Etho' and also has a lot of boat boys content <3

I made up a buuuunch of worldbuilding for Mezalea especially and I loved this bit, showing that Pixandria is a bit of an odd one out with all the empires xD

🌹 - When it comes to headcanons and fleshing out the canon, is there any particular part you like most? (Character backstories, worldbuilding, the supernatural aspects, etc.)

👻 - What is your headcanon / interpretation of whatever the deal is with Ghost’s parents?

I actually already answered the 🌹, but I think I can say more without being repetitive! It’s a lot of fun to see how my interpretations change as I get older and better understand myself and the real world. It makes me feel more comfortable with changing as much as possible, though I do hold dearly onto how I interpret the original canon. Sometimes, things are just a little more impactful if they’re a bit… Different.

Okay 👻 is really easy because I’ve been thinking So long and hard about it for like half a year now.

Gregory has three parents who raised him: T.Casket, Johnny Ghost (Sr.), and Peewee Ghost. T.Casket is his bio father, though he refused to say who the other parent was for reasons he did not explain. Casket died in an incident, and the Ghosts (family friends of T.Casket) took Gregory, now John bc he refuses to answer to anything else after being referred to as a John Doe, in. Ghost Senior died encountering what would later become Jimmy Casket, and Peewee became his sole caretaker. He might be still alive in the ‘current timeline’, but I’m not sure yet. Ghost’s primary issue is his memory, which started becoming really spotty after… something that happened when he was 11 (possessed by Jimmy Casket), so no matter how many times he has his own life explained to him, it’ll always wind up muddled in his head. (Peewee gave up trying to refresh the kid’s memory after realizing the thing possessing his son was using his history to hurt both Gregory and Peewee.) Toast has learned to be patient with him.

So yeah! Basically he’s had three dads, Peewee is a nickname but the man who had it did exist in Ghost’s life, the fact that there are two Johnnies in the house at a time was from J.Ghost Sr. Calling him Mini-Johnny until he got attached to the nickname. Gregory might have been partially supernatural, seeing as T.Casket had an affinity for the supernatural, but he doesn’t really show signs of it.

4. What percentage of your WIP do you think you have done so far?

uhhhh if we were to go by section, little over 1/3. i have 4 out of 12 sections completely written with one being written out right now and the rest mostly summary notes. but in terms of word count, right now my doc reads 10k, and i haven't even written out the majority of these sections. projected word count is 20k minimum, so i have to split this into at least two chapters.

these sections are turning out to be really, really, really long 🥲

16. What are you most excited about with finishing this WIP?

actually finishing it

but i'm also really really really excited to share this fic with the world. i have yet to see a fic that has this exact premise, and while i wish i wasn't the one to write it, it doesn't really matter in the end, so long as this fic exists, yanno?

also finishing all the kataang scenes, because i missed writing for them 🥺

19. What is a favorite line of dialogue so far?

ah, good question! needless to say, i don't really want to reveal the context for fear of spoiling all the goodness, but i will share this little snippet 😌

“But…” She swallowed thickly, suddenly finding it very hard to breathe, and looked down at the ground. “There is something that he needs to apologize for.”

trust me, once you see the context this line is in, you'll understand why 🤣😌

22. What is a spoiler you can give us for something incredibly insignificant in your WIP?

so since this wip is going to be so long, my supposed "spoiler" should be pretty obvious. but whatever lol

so the "spoiler" here is that Aang and Katara get together at the end of the fic, aka NO DEATH and NO SADNESS at the end. but again, not a big surprise. the focus on the fic is less going to be about that and more about how they get together, especially in lieu of this alternate universe's societal pressures on Aang and Katara. okay, that sounds a lot deeper than it actually is, but the point is, the focus will be on the journey, not the endgame 😌

(oh also this is a childhoodfriends!kataang fic which plays a part in the worldbuilding of this universse)

and since you asked for it, i will give not just one snippet, but a few paragraphs' worth 😌 (slightly modified to prevent spoilers)

After a pause, Katara cleared her throat. “How’d you figure?”

She had meant for her words to come out scathing, accusatory, but all that left her was a half-hearted, weary question. She could no longer bring herself to care enough to be angry. And maybe, just maybe, a part of her was curious on how Sokka came to that conclusion.

Sokka dragged his eyes up to Katara. “He was the only one who could make you smile,” he said. His mouth twisted down and his eyes shadowed with the vestiges of grief. “Ever since…”

Katara swallowed, her throat suddenly tight.

The stone pendant hung heavy from her neck.

After a moment of silence, Sokka seemed to gather enough of himself to continue, “And even now, you’re not happy. Not really.” Sokka looked back up to Katara, his expression unusually somber. “You haven’t been happy since they took him away.”

Katara couldn’t help but bristle at the implication in his words, even as a small part of her heart twinged at his words. She opened her mouth to retort, but the look on Sokka’s face halted her. Maybe it was the tiredness in his eyes, the bags underneath them. Maybe it was the raggedness of his expression.

Maybe it was the way he looked so much like their father—old, weary, sad.

“Katara, I want you to be honest with yourself.” Sokka’s eyes bored into her soul. “When was the last time you were happy? Truly happy?”

the first draft for necromancy wip is without a doubt the absolute worst draft i have ever written, makes no sense, characters appear without explanation, worldbuilding changes halfway through, it’s a patchwork of scenes that don’t connect BUT on the plus side i should finish it this month, and this pile of nonsense has given me direction for the next version ✨🌹
