sick and tired of ppl saying panic went to shit after ryan and jon left like yes it downgraded (compared to afycso my fave album from them) B U T ian (even tho he was only there for a few years) and dallon (who stayed on til 2017 oh how he put up with a lot of bs over the years) rlly kept it from tanking in those key years imo

like dallon is credited w writing most of v&v (with the exception of "nearly witches" - ryan wrote that) and all of twtltytd (is that even the album name idk i dont rlly listen to post ryan panic sorry not sorry) and he played bass not only for the end of pretty odd touring but also as part of the band til 2015 and then continued touring til 2017 (plus apparently brendon stopped him from releasing a song w 21 pilots which is actually why im writing this lmfao) like

dallons writing was on a similar level to ryans and it feels mean/unfair to reduce those albums that he did write to "shit" bc ryan wasnt there

and yes doab has a couple of bops (crazy = genius and also la devotee imo) but overall they dont cancel out what is mostly a shit album (ok yes dont threaten me w a good time is okay too but he did NOT make those high heels work good lord) esp cause there were literally none of the ogs except brendon on that)

and ofc pftw is ass if i ever hear high hopes or hey look ma i made it i actively try and leave wherever i am (they fucking played high hopes at a skate night i went to WHEN I WAS COSPLAYING RYAN ROSE VEST)

also side note fuck u brendon for continuing to play camisado after ryan left even tho it was like the one song he asked you to stop performing it cause it was rlly personal to him AND YOU DIDNT LISTEN (ofc all the songs were personal to him but camisado was one of the ones that he specifically drew on his experiences w/ his father to write)

also side note 2 imo panic died when spencer left (2013) but was temporarily revived til dallon left (2017) and brendons been dragging its corpse around for the last 6 years. and idc what anyone says the touring artists he played with do not count as panic cause no offence but like their title says theyre TOURING ARTISTS (like how dallon didnt consider himself a part of panic when he was touring w em til they asked him officially and then when he "stopped contributing creatively" - his words) like i rlly doubt ppl can name them off the top of their heads (altho theyre underappreciated for dealing w brendon)

Can we as a fandom please not immediately jump back into the typical oh it MUST be Ryans fault and going around spreading it to the fandom. Some of you guys really look for any single thing to immediately jump right back on that bandwagon of Ryan bad Ryan evil anything and everything that negatively happens is Ryan’s fault. it’s a wonder the man can even breathe without offending someone.

As Oliver clearly showed today, Buddie is and must be handled with the care it deserves and both him and Ryan know Buck and Eddie best. Any and all things related to it or changes made in bringing it to life should quite honestly be trusted in their hands. It’s their characters and their careers after all. Why would they want second best or rushed/horribly done for either of those things.

Did you not see the word "pessimistic" in the heading of that post?

I want to have faith in Tim, Oliver, and Ryan (this Catholic guilt storyline is keeping my hope alive), but I'd be hard-pressed to name two actors who understood their characters' relationship better than Cameron Monaghan and Noel Fisher understood Ian and Mickey, and even they needed fans to rally to make John Wells (the "dragon of television") kneel and give them a happy ending.

Sorry. I'm just appropriately jaded.

Showdown 2k24 Nominations!

alright, redoing this post now that I can give a concrete start date of Monday the 15th of January!

Nominations for the tournament are open up until the start date, and you can submit anyone who could reasonable be considered a companion, either by sending me an ask or by filling out

this form.

If you make your nomination via the form you can also submit some propaganda to go alongside the poll. Anyone who was considered a regular at any point in the last year will automatically be included, as well as anyone who was in the original tournament (+/- a couple I might miss or misremember as being a regular because I don't have old lists anywhere). The exception to this is last years winner, Rose Tyler, she will not be getting a place in the main tournament, however after the final I will run a poll to see if our new winner can beat her. (oh and also maybe I'll leave the TARDIS out but not fully decided yet)

The tournament is going to be run in the same way I did @adventure-showdown, meaning I'll keep companions from different periods of the show and different mediums segregated at first so the nicher ones don't immediately get knocked out, and slowly get mingled together. The exact details are going to depend on just how may characters get included.

Errm yeah, so go wild, nominate whoever you like (as long as they are a companion). If they are from teh TV show they have to be on this list to qualify, and for EU companions I'm going with them needing a TARDIS wiki page, and also I will give them a quick proof read to make sure they pass, the bar is low but it is there

ranking actors by how good of a job they did in teen wolf: the movie

1. vince ATE. this was HIS MOVIE. it didn’t matter that he was new. it didn’t matter that i only kind of liked his character. he showed up like rent was due, playing injured and desperate and needing to please just like the original teen wolf.

2. holland never misses. from her hurt watching allison fight, to her soft looks with scott, to her using her banshee powers. she stepped back into being lydia martin like no time had passed.

3. tyler hoechlin. my life, my love. he didn’t get a lot of emotional range with his scenes which is why he isn’t higher, but i have no doubt he had the potential to do it. he was the same as i remember him, but also had those small changes just from him having a kid and growing up.

4. colton did a great job, but also he was basically playing himself. no real acting was done, but it was believable and entertaining, so i’m still counting it.

5. tyler posey can play scott so well. but he was too excited to be in the movie that he couldn’t really play anything but wistful and earnest.

6. it feels odd to put linden here because he had such a small role, but i love this man and his character so we’re doing it anyway. he did such a great job as the sheriff and still playing dad to all of the kids even though they’re now grown. however, his sassy side left with stiles and i will never forgive him (but mostly the writers tbh) for that.

7. ian bohen had such a strong entrance and then… nothing. i don’t know what was up but he just stopped acting half way through the movie. also props for sniffing and crawling on all fours with a straight face.

8. ryan played parrish so two dimensional the whole movie. malia comments on a look he gives and he’s just there like “what look 🧍🏼‍♂️”

9. i love shelley hennig. i really do. but they’re trying to give malia depth and she refuses to lean into it. she’s going to date parrish after this, and she doesn’t even seem to really like him.

10. jr bourne. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU MAN. if there was one thing i could count on it was that man and he turned into some like poetic hipster with residual soldier in him.

11. crystal reed did a great job acting. that’s not arguable. the realization when her memories come back, the soft looks scott, the inner turmoil. that being said… she didn’t do a good job of being allison. her expressions weren’t as full and dynamic as they were in the show and it didn’t give her the same energy. she might as well have been a different character for me.

other comments:

- amy workman (the girl who played hikari) had very little range, but they downplayed her brand new character and this is her first movie role, so no hate to her, she got thrown in the deep end.

- melissa wasn’t in it for me to comment on anything. not her fault though, im so sorry they did you so dirty ma’am. same with dylan and khylin. i know they would’ve stolen the show.

Dayton, OH — VoicePlay live performances

After spending quite a bit of time in Ohio the previous autumn, VoicePlay returned in July 2015 for a night at the Fraze Pavilion. The show was almost cancelled for inclement weather, but luckily the rain held off and the outdoor venue stayed dry.

Their opening act was Eleventh Hour of Kettering Fairmount High School, the host group for the Kettering A Capella Festival that VoicePlay had participated in the year before. These talented kids had also opened for the Sing-Off tour a few months earlier at the Troy, OH show.

Trivia:

VoicePlay had been performing and tweaking this medley/skit since at least 2010.

They made a professional recording in front of a live audience during the 2014 Sing-Off tour.

Layne usually sings "Royals" by Lorde as his interrupting solo, but sometimes changes it like he does here in an attempt to make the other guys break character.

Trivia:

Contrary to the cameraperson's assertion, Earl did not "mess up" the melody. That's how VoicePlay's arrangement goes. It's intentionally different from the original Journey version that she was probably expecting.

VoicePlay had been performing this arrangement since at least 2009, when they were still going by 4:2:Five.

In 2016, they were the featured guests at Camp A Cappella, and recorded a video for this song with the campers.

They later recorded a full version of "Any Way You Want It" during the second round of their PartWork series.

For a couple years, Eli also sang with a Journey cover band called Raised On Radio in between VoicePlay gigs.

MEET IAN OUSLEY, FASHION DESIGNER AND STAR OF AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER

When Ian Ousley first booked his latest acting role, he had no idea just how big the part would be. While auditioning for the role of Sokka in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action remake, the series title and role were hidden from the actors. Only after booking the role did he realize what he was in store for.

It’s a full circle moment for Ousley, who grew up a fan of the iconic animated series. It also marks his biggest project yet for the child actor who has appeared in hit shows such as “13 Reasons Why” and Elizabeth Olsen’s indie hit movie “Sorry for Your Loss.” The actor has been pursuing his love of acting since he was scouted in his hometown of Texas at the age of 13. While it’s a deep passion and focus for Ousley, it’s not his only creative endeavor. Fans might be surprised to know that in addition to being a world-ranked marital artist (he holds a World Championship title in creative weapons), he is also a talented entrepreneur and fashion designer.

Along with two friends, Ousley operates the fashion label KALÓ SOIL. The Los Angeles-based brand is known for utilizing vintage items and repurposing them into unique, timeless pieces. For the premiere of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ousley worked with his team to develop and design a custom look from the brand to wear on the red carpet, combining his love of fashion with his newest project that is sure to take the world by storm.

We caught up with the actor before to learn more about his upcoming role and fashion label.

What inspired you to start your own label, Kalo Soil?

I’ve been passionate about fashion since I was about 15-years old when I started sketching my own designs and learning how to digitize my designs through an apprenticeship under a professor at FIDM, Richard Gordon. It was a blessing to meet the guys that started Kaló Soil, Ryan “Sully” Sullivan and Hunter Baker, because when the acting strike started it allowed me to explore design as a creative outlet again, and they had already laid the foundations of the direction the brand was headed. The driving force of creating Kaló was to create a place for all of us to learn our own personal taste and combine it, sharpen each other and make something different. The inspiration boils down to the idea of the value of creation being determined by the love of the creator.

Tell me about the look for tonight. What went into designing this look, and what was the inspiration behind it?

The inspiration for tonight started out with White Ravens. Ravens mean a lot to me, so we wanted the silhouette and the color to be a nod without looking like a costume. The color white is also a big part of the Kaló Soil aesthetic, and we wanted to incorporate the design language of the brand while leaning into my own personal taste. Ryan Sullivan and I sat down and constructed the design together, but Sully sourced and hand sewed this entire look personally (apart from the shoes). We wanted this look to really represent me not only in my personal design taste but also showing glimpses of who I am through the art. We focused on executing that element specifically through the cross pendants, silver detailing and harsher textures.

What can fans expect from the new show? 

Fans can expect that same breath and spirit of the original animated series with the weight of seeing these characters as real human people. There is a different kind of weight when you’re watching these kids deal with the responsibility of saving the world or protecting their village when they are real people. The fantastical elements and VFX are epic, and our goal is just to have fans fall in love with this universe all over again – or for the first time for people that are unfamiliar with the series.

Are there any exciting plans for the brand as well? Any notable projects coming up?

I’m personally taking a step back at the moment with the show’s release and acting-related projects taking up a most of my time right now, but the Kaló guys Sully and Hunter are going full force into the new year. We’re working with a few different musical artists right now on similar projects like this look, but for tours and editorial placements. Something we can tease is we have a lot of unique ideas for the runway and the focus for right now is we’re working towards consistent seasonal ready-to-wear collections. I’m personally excited to keep creating a fashion narrative with Kaló Soil wherever we get the opportunity to express it.

I forgive you, Anon. It was an honest mistake on my part and if any Shyan fans think I am dumb because of that, then that's fine. I didn't know and I am also pretty dumb. I also enjoy Ryan and Shane and their dynamic so no need to be vicious shyan nation, we in smoshblr didn't know (at least i didn't) that shyan was established and for the most part I see us using Shian for Shayne and Ian now when it is written!

There was so much going on that I’m not sure I can give an exhaustive review but here are some thoughts:

It was fun! It had a lot of energy and kept me invested the whole way through! Considering all the plot points it was juggling, I expected it to be way more of a mess, especially after what happened with Flux, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I thought Thirteen’s regeneration scene was sweet and very fitting for her character. In a version of the show where she’d had better writing throughout her run I’m sure it would’ve made me emotional.

Seeing Ace and Tegan was fun, plus the other companions at the end, especially Ian. William Russell has been long overdue for a return to the show, and I’m glad he finally got one, however small.

Also nice to see most of the surviving Doctors back. I went wild when Paul McGann showed up because I’d kinda only been expecting Peter, Colin, and Sylvester.

Jo Martin of course always kills it in the role and I wish we could’ve had her as a full time Doctor.

Not sure why Vinder was there but I like the character so I can’t object too much. I guess we can finally lay the “Vinder and Bel are the Doctor’s parents” theory to rest, thank goodness.

Also not sure why they brought Ashad back if they weren’t going to do anything interesting with him. He was a cool villain! Probably the best in the era! I wish they hadn’t killed him off so unceremoniously in S12. I don’t care about boring clone!Ashad who’s just acting as the Master’s henchman.

As for the Master himself, I’m not sure I can begin to articulate all my thoughts - some are positive, some are negative. His plan was very convoluted and I still don’t understand parts of it. Also I don’t think they say why he actually wants to steal the Doctor’s body (besides as a means of killing her and ruining her reputation). I can make some obvious assumptions (for example, he wants her potentially unlimited regenerations, he feels inferior to her because of the Timeless Child stuff and wants to be her, etc.) but I don’t think any of that is ever hinted at.

Seeing him in Jodie’s costume was fun though.

Maybe I’m simply a killjoy but I thought a lot of the references were cringe. idk I’ve just had my full of that kind of thing lately from all the major franchises so hearing the Master repeat the “I always dress for the occasion” line or make a Master’s Dalek Plan joke (that everyone including Big Finish had already made years ago) does nothing for me. Maybe I need more joy in my heart but I don’t care about the “blossomiest blossom.” It just feels like pandering.

Moving on to the companions, I’m sorry but Dan and Yaz’s exits were so funny. What... what was the point of Dan? He’s fun, I like him, but why was he here? He’s just some guy who’s just kind of there until he just kind of decides to go home. He never even got to be a plasterer. 😔

And Yaz leaves... because... the Doctor’s going to regenerate? That’s it? Like, after all this time, after showing how devoted she is to the Doctor, this is the reason she goes back home? Obviously Mandip Gill is leaving, but in universe it comes off as really weird. Companions have stuck around when the Doctor regenerates plenty of times. Clara and Rose do! Lots of Classic companions do! Is Yaz just that attached to Thirteen’s face?

Also they didn’t even reference Thasmin ahdjsdgh sorry guys

Literally how is anything about Yaz’s character resolved by this ending? Is she still a cop? What’s her relationship like with her family these days? Is she even still speaking to them regularly? Will she ever tell them the truth about her life? Does she finally feel confident in herself instead of having to rely on the Doctor? There’s just... nothing.

I wish my boy Ryan had shown up but Graham is always fun, it was good to see him.

Anyway I’m hyped for next year. I may not always see eye to eye with RTD, but the man definitely knows how to write. And Ncuti Gatwa looked great in the brief glimpse we got in the trailer!

8/10 overall. I think it was a decent sendoff for Thirteen!

Ian Satterwhite beefcake

Usually I review the movie or tv show, then look for beefcake photos of the cast.  But in this case I couldn't find the tv show.  It was Day 5, about an epidemic that kills you when you fall asleep.  So, apparently, people try to find ways to stay awake.

Focus characters Jake, a meth head turned hero (Jesse C. Boyd) and a kid from the neighborhood (Walker Satterwhite) jump into a swimming pool. They also watch a porno starring the butt of Aaron Marcus. Pilot Aiden (Ryan Cooper) searches for the Sandman's Oasis, where sleep is possible,

Problem: I couldn't find the series. A google search for Day 5 led to Day 6, about the World Athletic Championships, or 6 Days, about a terrorist plot.  I had to search for "Day 5" and "Jesse C. Boyd" to determine that the series appeared on the Rooster Teeth website. Look, I already subscribe to Netflix, Vudu, Hulu, Disney Plus, MAX, and Amazon Prime,  That's enough

Another problem: Since 2016, neighborhood kid Ian Satterwhite has grown up.  He is now over 18, a high school graduate, buffed, and apparently gay.  At least, his Instagram shows him getting chummy with another guy. I only post beefcake photos if they are connected to a movie or tv review (with an exception for Gemstone alums), so I checked Walker's projects on IMDB.

208 episodes of Junk Drawer Magic, where Walker and his buds show you "crazy tricks using things only from your junk drawer,"  Nope.

Wonderama, "the best in music, dance, DIY, and games for the entire family." Nope.

Okay so, I've been trying to come up with a new system for the tournaments vefore the head to head rounds. Even thouh its still a while off, we will be getting a new companion, I would guess, some time in the next year. Currently to accomodate a new companion one of the regulars would have to go, I just about managed to find a good pick for Ruby's introduction but there is just nobody I think should go this time around.

So new system, my current proposal is to make the regulars list subject to elimination in the group stage. But, I still want to guarantee particular numbers of slots for classic, new, and eu companions which would let most of the regulars through, and then whatever is left over is for nominees.

What this lets me do is expand the list of regulars somewhat. I'll put the full list im currently thinking of under the cut, as there's no such thing as too many. Don't take the list as final, I'm open to adding a couple more, although I will say they should either be undisputably companions or some very special case where they are as well known as a companion from the same era/medium, additionally they should be someone who you think is likely to nominated in most tournaments. This is going to be a lower bar for eu companions but whatever.

currently I am thinking 27 slots for classic companions, 16 for nu, 13 for eu and 8 for nominations, but I will put the specific numbers up to a vote later in the week

I'm only going to set this to a day because if you guys are happy with this as a plan I want to implement it in time for the next tournament and that's going to take time on my end
