That time I was showing my cousin the Oda death scene and as a light-hearted, thoughtless question she asked me why Dazai threw away his coat and I answered without hesitation “that's to symbolize how he's repudiating everything he's ever known for Oda”. I still stand by that

#Like I never really paid mind to Dazai throwing away his coat but ever since I think about it every time I see that scene.#Because it *is* out of place for Dazai to throw away his coat #(what would that be fo? other than accentuating the urgency and desperation of the scene which it does very well. that scene is beautiful.)#But even then I do really think it holds a strong symbolyc meaning of Dazai completely rejecting everything that’s mafia related-#and that brought them to that moment and it’s so so good!!
