my thoughts:

I've been binging Wormsin's fic the past couple days, which means I'm in a darker place when it comes to Brudick. (Also I've been craving some erotic thriller recently and that should just be Brudick: the genre. Can you imagine Bruce and Dick doing the piano scene in Stoker? Amazing).

Right now, I'm lamenting how rarely we see Bruce and Dick together anymore. They are the relationship that defines the Batverse, but almost three decades of Robin being treated like a bad word in DC cinema, I am missing Dick being Bruce's foil. His mirror. The one who took Batman's ideals and became something Batman himself could never be. But more than that, I'm just missing them right now.

What makes me happy about them:

I love mess :D

fr though I just have a thing for super messy father and son-esque mentor relationships where they're perfect together except one is definitely going to kill the other someday. They have a blowup and I wiggle my toes, but I think their sweetness gets me the most. I'm not big on the current era of comics, but I do love Bruce acknowledging Dick's worth and strength and I think Bruce needs to it more often

What makes me sad about them:

Their relationship is so heartbreakingly toxic sometimes, and not even in the fun way. Slade can almost kill Dick and it's hot, but if Dick was my friend and Bruce treated him that way (either as a partner or a parent or even just as a boss), I'd be begging him to leave. There's a real bitter undercurrent of Bruce being expected to do no wrong but also be dark and broody and grim that leans on Dick to always forgive, always come back, no matter what Bruce does to him. I think that just makes me sad about Bruce in general-- I am gagging for character development and DC steadfast refuses to give it to me.

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

I think a lot of fic makes Bruce either too good or too awful, until it's either boring or ooc. I just can't with a Bruce who is just the worst, or at least so deeply profoundly mediocre that he may as well be the worst. But also sunshine and rainbows seems too happy for them. It's a hard balance for the source materials, let alone the fic. And I include myself in this! I think Brudick is a genuinely difficult ship to write, because their dynamic is just difficult to nail down in general. Honestly I struggle to write them because of it, myself

things I look for in fanfic:

Passion. They may be the old married couple of the DCU, but Brudick are sexy. Any fic where they're a couple has to include the fact that they're an extremely taboo relationship but they're just so into each other it doesn't matter. Sizzling chemistry. Raw desire. The kind of mental anguish to keep Catholicism alive til the next millenia.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

Realistically, I think Bruce is going to end up with no one, but I'm down for some BatCat. Dick I ship with almost everyone

The DC world is so incredibly unpredictable that I think any ending I can imagine now would be completely incongruous to what would make sense five or ten years down the line. And honestly it's hard to imagine an ending for them. Right now, I would just like a run where Dick and Bruce have to lose their current status quo and have to genuinely understand and accept everything they are to each other. Yeah yeah, they hugged recently, but god I want them both to be stripped down to their darkest secrets and bared to each other; where Bruce can't make empty platitudes and Dick can't just forgive everything. Something where they get the choice to walk away and instead hold each other twice as hard. And then I want the hug

Hi anon! So currently I'm gonna say I don't write for him because I just don't have enough info to get his characterisation right. For me, the most important part of writing is ensuring I can make something that seems realistic and accurate to the character, I try so so hard to never veer into OOC and I'm concerned that if I write for Daeron currently I won't have enough info to get it right. Honestly I just don't have a full grasp of his vibes yet.

But once we see more of him then I am almost certain that I'll add him the list then!! I hope that's understandable.

a/n - Quick warning, I’m terrible at writing. I’ve never really posted my writing before but I actually kind of like this one so here we are 🤗. It’s just a short drabble so atleast it’s not one of the longer ones I’ve written. Also the reader is said to not be apart of the port mafia in this one. It’s not really a warning so I couldn’t put it up there but it’s still kinda important to say I feel like.

When Dazai had called you and asked to meet up one random Saturday night you at first agreed without thinking much about it. After all, with your boyfriend being a port mafia executive you didn’t get to see him that often since you yourself weren’t a member. So now here you were, immediately regretting your decision to meet up with him. Maybe it was the fact it was completely dark and your night vision wasnt the greatest or maybe because you two were walking down some pathway alone in a dense forest, you really couldn’t tell. It had probably been a combination of both, you would have believed if it were with how fast your heart was beating.

“Your heart is racing, dearest.”

Dazai commented, his right hand tightly gripping onto your wrist, two of his fingers on your pulse point as you trailed behind him. You rolled your eyes, lips pressed into a thin line as you could barely make out your boyfriend infront of you.

“Well maybe it wouldn’t be if someone wasn’t dragging me through a forest in the middle of the night. If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume you’re bringing me out here to silence me.”

Dazai didn’t bother replying, an amused smile on his face as they continued walking down the narrow pathway. A comfortable silence fell between the both of you as you walked through the forest. After minutes of a surprisingly comfortable silence you two finally arrived at the spot Dazai wanted to show you, a small clearing in the middle of the forest that was covered in small flowers and had a river running through the middle.

“Come sit.”

Letting go of your wrist, Dazai walked over to a fallen tree trunk and sat down, patting the free spot next to himself. You followed him a few seconds later, sitting down next to him and looking at his face with confusion written all over yours as to why he had brought you here in the middle of the night. As if he had read your thoughts, he let out a soft chuckle, simply looking up at the stars as he intertwined one of his hands with yours.

“I simply wanted to stargaze with you my lovely. That’s all. How about I teach you a few constellations while we’re here, hm?”

Alastor is DEFINITELY ooc in this, I think. It's probably me projecting how I want to have silly friendships with unimaginable horrors of which reside only in the deepest, darkest corners of Hell.

The venture to my and Alastors favourite park was peaceful; or rather, it was as peaceful as it could realistically be in Hell. Conversing with each other about how we’ve been, how our day went, and what we’ll be doing later had made the distance between the hotel and ‘our’ park seem significantly shorter than it truly was.

Before either of us had realised it, we were making our way into the entrance of the park.

“We’re already here? Wow, either we started walking faster, or our memories got worse. I swear the park was further away last time!” I chuckled, “No matter, Al, are you ready to see the horrors of which are… couples?!” I dramatically gasped.

Alastor, ever the drama queen, played along not missing a beat. Drawing his hands up to hold his face; which had his eyes widened, smile shrunken just enough to form a farce shocked look. “Oh, the horrors! I shall face my fears and venture into this horrifying park alongside you!” He places his hands upon his hips, “These face-sucking terrors have no chance against two of us!”

A large smile granted itself solace upon my face, muted laughter breaking out through my nostrils in the form of breath. Soon enough, I gather my resolve and lend my arm out to Alastor; patiently waiting for him to interlock his arm with mine.

As we walk toward our favourite quaint gazebo —wooden, kept safe from modern renovation, many trees behind it, surrounded by beautiful grass and a few benches along the way.— Alastor snaps his fingers and the wonderful gazebos center is given a matching table with two chairs. A nice table covering spread over it, a delectable meal (not flesh!) you both thoroughly enjoy, and of course the tea set; in place and prepared.

“Mm, just as lovely as last time!” I thanked Alastor, skipping up to the gazebo with him, unlinking our arms to sit in our respective seats. Placing my forearms on the outer-edge of the table, I clasp my hands together to lean my head against, “So… Mind sharing anything that’s happened at the ‘princesses peace project’? I will say, I’m utmost curious, do tell!” and near instantaneously, Alastors eyes literally glow in excitement.

“I’d be glad to satiate that curiosity! She has received her first pathetic demon wishing to enter Heaven! I believe his name is… Sir Pentís? No, no, it’s Sir Pentious.” He quickly corrected, before continuing, “He had shown up again six hours after blowing our front wall off with a poorly made cannon in his poorly made ship. Ha ha!” He waved his right hand up and down in amused disbelief.

“Only six hours? and he was let in? She allowed him into the hotel? I swear, she has placed an unreasonable amount of faith onto the sinners here!” I comment in astonishment, enthralled by the information. Alastor details, “Not only had the princess let him in, but she had reprimanded Angel Dust for rightfully questioning his intentions!” He paused to sip at his tea, leisurely observing the unimportant demons also residing in the park currently.

I followed his gaze, bearing sight to a… rather shameless couple of demons on one of the periodically placed benches near our precious gazebo. “This is improper of me to say… But have they no shame? Why in the seven rings must couples do… That?” Deciding to jest my thoughts more I mimic the two, “It’s as if they think ‘Mm… lets go outside and play tongue twisters on each other for everyone to see! mm, oh, soo hot!’ As if we already don’t get romance, even Hell knows we need not to see that.”

Alastor nods slowly, turning away quickly with disgust present in his ruby eyes. “It is an unpleasant and grotesque display, yes.” He shakes his head, “Though, I’m relieved to know you have common sense, my dear.” He tries to rid that scene from his mind by closing his eyes, before snapping them open again, caught off-guard by my following sentence.

“What if… We twist their intestines instead?” Excitedly, I pondered aloud to him. “...” He stares at me for a moment, “Pardon? I may have to retract my previous statement, dear.” Covering my mouth with one of my hands, “My apologies,” I laughed, “I’m feeling a smidge hungry for violence, is all. Surely, you can agree? Perhaps, my revulsion has surpassed yours after all?” I tease as I near the end of my explanation.

Alastor gives another gracious sip of tea, responding back, “Ha, ha! I doubt that.” then serves the jambalaya in serving size for the two of us, his mothers recipe; of course. “As much as I agree with you on the… ‘Situation’ over there, I have yet to finish recounting the hotel's newest addition!”

“Oh yes, I nearly forgot!” Weary of the temperature, I spooned up a portion of the delicious jambalaya, “And you’ve brought the best food to go with this story! Your mothers recipe, I presume? You are one phenomenal cook, Al.” At my compliment, Alastor metaphorically perked up again, ego stroked and heart warmed nicely. Taking a bite of the astronomically delightful dish, I usher him to continue on with his story.

By the time he had completed telling ‘the drama’ to me, we had finished our bowls of the wonderful jambalaya; resorting to commenting on the other demons in the park, making jokes about each of them.

Suddenly, one of the hellborn children we were observing, had idiotically ran straight into a tree headfirst, then got back up only to trip on a large stick! I must admit, I do not regret wheezing at the sight. “Holy Hell-” Interrupting myself with more laughter, “The- they fell twice! Oh, Satan, my day could not possibly get better than this!” All the while, Alastor had simply chuckled, breaking into his loud ‘radio-man laugh’ as I named it, after my commentary.

“HA HA HA! You weren't lying about your itch for chaos today, were you!” Alastor pats the table before standing, “Alas, our outing is unfortunately coming to an end, my dear. Would you care for a parting dance?” Holding his gloved hand out to me, he gleefully adds, “As per our ‘tradition’, of course!” And I immediately grasp his hand, standing to follow him out to the grass nearby our gazebo.

Bringing both of my hands into his, I ask, “Are we gonna do ya’ swing dance, or my style this time?” Smirking, Alastor pulls me into a 180° spin, “Neither, only a quick dance to bid each of us a good afternoon!” He grinned, spinning me back around to face him and side-skipping to the right, as I skipped to the left.

We turn swiftly to face each other halfway and switch places, grasping the other's opposite hand and pulling ourselves closer that way. Circulating in the opposing direction, I quickly place both of my hands into his, moving farther away again. “The great spin, hm?” I casually jested, my left hand disbanding from his right, finishing the dance after a few minutes and dramatically bowing.

“It was a wonderful experience dancing with you once again, my friend.” He bowed back, “But I am afraid we must depart now. Will I be seeing you in Cannibal Town with Rosie overmorrow?” He asked, lifting his head before the rest of his upper body followed. I nodded my head in confirmation, “You will, and I wish you a good afternoon, Alastor! I will see you in Cannibal Town!”

And with that, we walked out of the park and to our respective jobs, all but impatiently awaiting our next outing alongside Rosie.

4. How do you channel characters' voices and personalities?

This comes actually very natural to me, it is hard to explain. I think it relies a lot on extrovertism vs introvertism, and social dominance vs social submission in the way the character speaks. I am aware that I make the conscious choice of toning down canon ways of speaking, like for example the use of "troublesome" for Shikamaru (and Shikadai), because it feels in my context weird. So yeah, I use their personalities in context and I assume it works.I have recieved critique on Shikadai, where people have said I make him too aggressive, but in the contexts of those scenes he isn't "too aggressive/OOC" and I stand by my choices to make Suna pop out in him more than the anime shows 😤

19. What's the most unusual or unique setting you've used?

HAHA, everyone who has read my historical aus (When I am Gorgeous and no one cries for unknown soldiers) knows those settings are pretty unusual, especially for the WWII one. When scouting the library of WWII aus on AO3 before and while writing that fic, it was evident the most common setting was set in either London during the blitz or somewhere in Germany (often civil settlements), and not in a random swamp in the north east of Europe. When I am Gorgeous is set on a specific island which exists for real outside the coast of Finland, so that is pretty specific.

In other AU news, welp, the Witcher AU will be "unique" I suppose, especially since it will be based on the game and not the Netflix series.

Canonverse is a common setting, but I guess the Majsasaurus-made island of Budo Tochi from Labyrinth of Confusion was specific and nice 😋

26. How do you approach plot twists or surprises in your fics?

They come to be in dreams. Haha, not really, but they almost exist there from the beginning, as the beginning point of plotting. In To dance above the Stars, the main character-driven plot point (Inojin) was the first thing I decided about the entire story, the rest came as I tried to justify *why* said plot point would happen.

And about the cliffhangers which turn into surprises, oh man, they just come just as natural as breathing. I just know when to place cliffhangers 😂 I begin to be enough experienced for it to just unfold.

28. What's the most ambitious or challenging fic you've ever written?

In ANY OTHER TIMELINE the WWII fic would not have been as challenging at it turned out to be, but because of real political events and wars and actual real scares it was insanely difficult to stay sane while finishing off the fic, due to which countries were represented in the fic.

I would say Labyrinth of Confusion was challenging too, given how so many different plot points had to unfold realistically and believably and all puzzle pieces make sense. The fic was also 92k long so it was a lot of work.

To dance above the Stars was also challenging given the themes represented, but I prepared well so in the moment I wasn't seeing it as challenging.

just as an idea, i like: southern gothic, gothic horror, vampires, taboos, the supernatural, demons, religious themes (also non-negotiable; sorry, it’s included in all my characters to some extent), philosophy. i don’t write slice of life.

my ocs are all quite twisted/unorthodox and i have very specific muses right now; if you like to write huge paragraphs during plotting, interact!!! please note all my ocs range from 30s - 40s and i prefer the same for my partners (age gaps more than 20 years are not my thing, unless there’s a supernatural element involved). nsfw is not a driving factor, but i’m open to it and discussion is encouraged. as a basis, most my characters switch, and they can lean, if that’s a no-go.

I. I’m only comfortable writing with people 18+, preferably 21+ because I'm in my thirties and I write things with various adult themes. I absolutely will not ship with someone under 21. The rest of my shipping rules will be mentioned later, but this is a big one for me. I'm not going to go through everyone who interacts with me to check exactly how old they are because I have faith in all of you to just be honest people. But I will block you if I find out you're a minor or just generally were dishonest about your age.

II. My interpretation of Dark Urge pre-amnesia is based on the pretty disturbing things we learn and are given implications of. I don’t agree with or practice those dark themes, as I find them absolutely vile and disgusting. For that reason, certain themes won't be explored in any threads or plots. Specifically, I will not be exploring the incestuous themes hinted in the game. Furthermore, my headcanons are just my ideals based on how I interpret the Dark Urge origin, so in no way to I expect all Durge players to have the same canon for their playthrough. I will appropriately tag any posts that need CW/TW and NSFW.

III. I’m private and selective. Trust me when I say I’d love to write with dozens of people, but I need to be realistic with my time and energy and muse.

IV. That said, I'm super slow at replying. Like forever slow. Sometimes I get little bursts of energy, but I suffer from anxiety and wanting to have my reply be up to a certain standard. I also want to be completely transparent in the fact that I prioritize replies to my friends first and foremost. That's not me trying to offend you or anything, it's just I love my friends very dearly and we already have an established rapport.

V. I'm going to be particularly selective in who I ship with, and I'm mostly only going to ship with people I consider my friends because of the rapport we have ooc. However, that doesn't mean I'm not open to shipping with new people. It just means my approach to it will require we both communicate more extensively about the details and what we both expect. I'm typically more on the side of "if it happens, it happens" and not making that the main focus of why our characters interact.

VI. This blog is multiverse. I also have multiple subverses within those verses. Don't worry, I use tags to organize what's what to be less confusing. You can find my list of verses here.

VII. I also have an Astarion blog (@exsanguidus). Please don't come into this inbox asking me things about that muse. I’m looking for medieval set fantasy with a pairing of mlw. I don’t have many of those roleplays at the moment so I’d like to dip back into that. Others i enjoy but are optional are sunshine x grumpy, found family, morally grey characters, star crossed lovers / forbidden love. There are more but those are just the ones on the top of my head. As for what fantasy creatures I like, I mainly prefer to use ones like vampires, gods/goddesses, dragons, fae/fairies, witches. Though I might be open to others too, depending on what it is. Ok so first of all, I love your works! I really enjoy reading them and I am excited for the next chapter of Brumous (Harry is adorable in this story). I really liked Backstabber too, especially the interactions between Harry and Sirius, but mostly because you portrayed the marauders in a very realistic way. Sorry that I did not comment on most of your stories, I always overthink what I want to say than get anxious and I just avoid commenting as a result.

Ok so here’s my question; how are you able to put the idea/story that is in your head on paper? I have so many ideas of fics in my head and I just can’t put it into words (or when I do I just cringe at myself). So yeah, how do you do it?

First of all, don’t ever feel awkward with me. I’m very socially awkward and I have sky high social anxiety. Sometimes I get sent asks that literally paralyze me with fear because I don’t know how to answer them. Or, for example, I’m super anxious about chapter four on Sunday because there’s one scene where I think people might think it is awful and OOC and I’ve written it about five times but Bell assures me it’s fine and a good scene. Please, just go read my amazing dorky responses to some reviews on AO3 where I legit just scream excitement at some reviewers. Though, normally, my cap locks are reserved for reviewers who I recognize and review repeatedly because I think they understand I’m a legit crazy person by this point.

Second of all, I’m so glad to hear you love my stories! Backstabber got some love! Yay!! That makes me really happy.

To answer your question, I think a lot about a story. Like a lot a lot. I reply scenes in my head. I plot out the entire story in my head. I don’t think that’s a normal process at all. I know a lot of people use flow charts or spread sheets to help them plan. I’ve just always been more… mental about it. Anytime I try to plot with charts, I get bored.

I also took a lot of creative writing courses in high school and college. They’re useful for the exercises they provide and a more technical aspect of creative writing. It helped me realize what parts of a story are needed. But more importantly, it just gave me practice messing around with different prompts and settings and situations.

My best advice. Just write. Anything. Everything. Just picture the scene in your head and write the words down on paper. Even if at first it’s not creative, just write it. The more you write, the easier it becomes. Then, go back and evoke the senses. If you’re in a third person limited POV, which is what I prefer to write in, then describe what the character sees, feels, hears, touches. What’s important in that scene that the narrator senses that the reader needs to sense. Realize, your narrator in this POV doesn’t know everything. They may lead the reader wrong or contradict things the reader knows because they haven’t learned it yet themselves. Or maybe they are talking to another character and they say the wrong information. It’s important to just get inside a characters head. Know what they know and feel what they feel.

If you’re new to writing, I’d pick one main character. Don’t do what I do and switch POVs. You need to have distinctive voices for all of them. A trick I use is that I pull up a character chart of Harry when I’m writing Harry. Then I pull up my word document. I can see Harry’s picture out of the corner of my eye as I write which helps me visualize writing as Harry. When I switch to Ginny, I pull up Ginny’s character chart and I see her picture out of the corner of my eye. It helps me focus on who I am writing and hone in on their personality.

But, honestly, it’s all trial and error. What works for you and what doesn’t. You’ll figure out your strengths and your weaknesses. I mean, I’m totally embarrassed by Cronus Rising so much that I deleted it off every single site because I saw how terrible my writing was back then. I cringe anytime someone brings it up to me. But let me tell you, you never get better if you don’t try. You just got to keep writing and you’ll get better and better every single chapter. By your second story, you’ll be in a groove and it will be better than the last. The next story will be even better.

In conclusion. Just write. Every day. Even if it’s a few paragraphs. It will keep you sharpen and keep you engaged and you’ll remember your plot a lot better that way.
