Oh and the runes are bleeding at the edges oh oh oh gosh that’s such a great and unique way really encapsulate the mood of the whole thing
Right before the joint explosion of character themed fire and lightning of your dreams
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But of course, they’ve just established that while they’re equally matched in most things, Fai’s eye is going to give Syaoran an advantage the more this happens, and right away it sends his side of the explosion over the edge and gives him the victory
Tumblr media
I DON’T EVEN KNOW IF I CAN SHOW PEOPLE ON FIRE SO WOOPS MORE BANDAID-CHAN
AND OH BOY I DIDN’T EXPECT THAT KIND OF THING TO HAPPEN SO QUICKLY
THE END OF CHAPTER? RIGHT HERE AT THE CLIFF HANGER?
IT’S MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK!

Tumblr media
Content: GOM + Kagami + Takao having a tall gf (headcanon) fem!reader, just fluff, tiny suggestive
Notes: “Tall”, but realistically (I know wild for knb) so let’s say approx 5’9 (175 cm)
Tumblr media
Kuroko
- Kuroko is so used to everyone being taller than him, that he wouldn’t really feel that out of place while having a tall girlfriend
- You are the only person allowed to stroke his hair, but only in private - you’d never allow anyone to see it
- Kuroko always cares about your comfort and even if he is not much into pda, you hold hands very often
- He love to kiss your forehead when you sit
- He can be both a big or a small spoon, whatever you need
Kise
- Kise absolutely adores that you are tall, but not taller than him
- You can get model gigs with him and he asks you to that often because he is just obsessed with showing you to people
- You can still comfortably wear heels with him
- Kise loves hugging you from behind
- H U G E pda fan, you are never safe in public, holding hands, stolen kisses, constant forehead kisses because “your forehead is just so close to my lips it’s asking for it”
- will literally hiss seeing guys checking you out
Aomine
- He was actually quite bummed at the beginning that you are not tiny, because he cannot make fun of you 24/7
- But who cares about height there are other measurements that are more important (I’m not pointing fingers)
- You are still smaller than him so he can put his hand on your hair and just destroy any hairstyle you have and laugh at you
- The king of putting his hand around you waist
- Randomly nibbles your neck and starts teasing (usually it ends up spicy)
- Mr “I’ll whisper dirty stuff to your ear in public and watch you get red”
- Puts his chin on your head All. The. Time.
- Tries to make you play basketball with him because “tbh you are still higher than Akashi and Kuroko so maybe there’s some potential” (he’d never say that next to Akashi obv)
Midorima
- Midorima is so clueless and extra tall, that he wouldn’t even notice that you are reasonably tall for a girl until someone points it out. Or until you stand next to Takao
- He has absolutely no opinion about it whatsoever because he just don’t think it’s an important factor in a relationship
- However he gets red like a tomato if you’d hug him from behind and put your face on his shoulder
- Or if you stand on your tiptoes and give him a forehead kiss. He is g o n e
- That’s the day he decided he loves that you are tall
- Gets annoyed when someone comments that you could be a model. Tells you that you absolutely shouldn’t start a model career, and didn’t want to elaborate why (because he was afraid you’d start attracting a bigger crowd and leave him bc he is an insecure Bebe inside fight me)
Murasakibara
- Tall? You? You look like a Smurf to him
- Who is this gnome standing next to him? Yes that’s you
- I mean, again, Murasakibara do not find you really tall. However seeing how small are girls at school, Atsushi fast realised that this is as good as it gets
- Atsushi constantly puts his head on yours
- If any guy tries to flirt with you and approaches you, he gets jealous quickly and shows up out of nowhere and holds you by the waist to show dominance (and with his height… works like a charm)
- Murasakibara is a big baby and pouts if any guy is complimenting how tall you are
- Also for very long he would call you “tiny” and everyone had the idea that you must be very small, and gets surprised when they meet you (“well for me she is tiny”)
- He is constantly kissing the crown of your head
- The biggest softie, honestly for him being taller than an average person makes you just… average to him, and that’s honestly perfect
- Not that big on pda but will always hold you close, hold your hand, waist, just to show everyone that you are taken
Akashi
- Being taller than Akashi… oh boy, well
- Obviously you didn’t expect to fall for a guy who is shorter than you, but obviously Akashi has a huge personality and it doesn’t really matter
- You are almost the same height and it has a lot of perks: for example it’s so easy to get a quick kiss without a lot of effort
- Akashi loves to kiss your neck
- No one dares comment about lack of height difference
- Akashi actually encourages you to wear heels if you like them, because he has enough confidence to not get insecure about this kind of stuff, which you appreciate a lot
- Also all of his clothes fits you like a glove, which is a huge perk especially with the fancy expensive stuff you can wear as your own
- You sometimes kabedon him as a surprise when you are alone
- It never ends up well for you (but spicy edition)
Kagami
- Kagami just like Midorima has one braincell and he wouldn’t even notice that you are tall until someone says it out loud
- One day he saw you standing next to Kuroko and he yelled “oh you are taller than Kuroko? You should play basketball”
- One braincell golden retriever
- Just like Aomine he tries to persuade you to play basketball with him (basketball ball for brain I swear)
- He has this reflex to grab your waist and pull you closer whenever there is a crowd
- Loves it when you lay down on his shoulder and fall asleep when you watch a movie
- Loves it when you snuggle your nose in his collarbone, he gets so red
- He is not big on pda but when no one is looking he would sneak a tiny cheek kiss (he actually loves tiny kisses, as well as steamy make out sessions)
- If someone says you look like a model he would get hyped up
Takao
- Takao is a cheeky boy, he would for sure be the one flirting with you till you fall for him
- He fell first he fell harder and he would do everything to convince you to date him even when he is slightly shorter than you
- When he succeeded he couldn’t believe it and he feels like he is the happiest guy on the planet
- The Greenest Flag in here, he treats you like a queen
- Flexes about you constantly, how beautiful and amazing his gf is
- He loves it when you wear heels, and he would for fun pout and ask for forehead kisses like a baby
- HE would kabedon you for fun to make you blush
- Loves hugging you from behind and kissing your nape
- Also he would playfully bite your shoulder or whisper dirty thing to your earlobe just to make you blush out of nowhere
- Honestly just marry him already or I will

YARNS (please ignore the slips of paper, ive given everything a nice label now)
A: 572 yards/ 480 meters. 5.75 oz/ 165 grams. 2 ply, approximately DK weight. Silk and merino blend assembled by myself. There are stripes of different greens which are arranged to be bigger at one end than the other, so a triangle shawl (working from the correct end of yarn) will have stripes that are more or less even instead of getting thicker near the narrow end of the shawl. I don't know how noticeable the effect will be, though. Silky soft and shines beautifully in the sun. $100 USD or best offer.
B: 175 yards/160 meters. 2 oz/ 57 grams. 2 ply, light fingering weight to sport weight. Luxury blend of alpaca, cormo, debouillet, silk, silk noil, angora, and cashmere. Very textured due to how I plied it and some noils, but also extremely soft and with lovely drape. Next to skin soft. $60 USD or best offer. SOLD
C: 176 yards/160 meters. 2.25 oz/64 grams. 2 ply, light worsted. Merino, silk, silk noil, angora, and mystery wool blend. Next to skin soft, lots of different colors, and good drape. $50 USD or best offer. SOLD
D: 152 yards/130 meters. 2 oz/57 grams. 3 ply, light worsted. Cormo, alpaca, and merino blend. This yarn was arranged into a stripey gradient--white stripes separating a light purple to dark purple gradient. 3 ply. Incredibly soft--would be perfect for a hat or cowl. $55 USD or best offer.
E: 100 yards/91 meters. 2.5 oz/71 grams. Traditional 3 ply, aran/bulky weight. Romney 3 ply. Durable, squishy, and warm, but not particularly soft. Would make a great hat or gloves. $35 USD or best offer SOLD
F: 140 yards/128 meters. 1.75 oz/50 grams. Traditional 3 ply, fingering weight. Beautiful BFL yarn in autumn colors. Due to the traditional 3 ply the colors constantly shift and change. Very soft and with good drape. $45 USD or best offer. SOLD
G: 325 yards/300 meters. 4 oz/115 grams. 2 ply, fingering weight. Wool, silk, silk noil, alpaca, and Angelina blend. Very textured but soft and drapey. $80 USD or best offer.
H: 166 yards/145 meters. 2 oz/57 grams. 2 ply worsted weight. Targhee, BFL, Angelina blend. Incredibly soft and drapey. Fuzzy and lightly underplied for maximum softness (so a little delicate). Next to skin quality. $45 USD or best offer.
(I'll accept the highest offer I get in a timely manner, so if you really want something and think other people also want to buy it, you can offer more to potentially guarantee you get it. Or offer less, and get it for cheaper if nobody else wants it. Although I wont accept very low offers, sorry.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BATTS AND ROLAGS. These all contain several large handfuls of milkweed floss, because why not. Very fun and soft to spin.
A. 0.75 oz/21 grams. Romney, BFL, silk, bamboo, Targhee, milkweed floss. Somewhat soft, would be very soft if plied with a fine fiber. Lots of purples and blues, with small amounts of rainbow. Should yield a heathered, smooth yarn except for bumps of milkweed floss. $15 USD or best offer. SOLD
B. 0.75 ounces/21 grams. Naturally dyed Shetland combing waste (yellow), BFL, silk merino, milkweed floss. Many different colors arranged in stripes--yellow and blue primarily. Should yield a textured yarn due to the combing waste, but also lofty and colorful. Fairly soft and very squishy. $15 USD or best offer.
C: 0.5 oz/14 grams. Tussah silk, BFL, merino, merino combing waste, milkweed floss. Very soft. Majority tussah silk which is charcoal black. The other colors are dark purple, a few streaks of red, and the shining white from the milkweed floss. Should spin up to a fine and soft yarn. I am also able to make more of these, which would be the same weight and price and matching the original as closely as possible. Let me know if you want several. $12 USD or best offer. SOLD -- but i can make more, if youre interested !
D: 0.5 oz/14 grams. Merino combing waste, merino, BFL, silk, milkweed floss. Buttery soft. Mostly dark brown with purple, blue, and white streaks. I can make several identical ones if desired, for the same price each. $12 USD or best offer. SOLD -- but i can more, if you're interested !
E: 0.5 oz/14 grams. BFL merino, mystery wool and milkweed floss blend. This has stripes of purple and blue, suspended a squishy mystery combing waste. Should yield a fine but squishy yarn. $10 USD or best offer. SOLD
If I sell all or most of these I will make some more !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FLEECE. I am selling by the ounce (28 grams). I'm also willing to process these into fluffy hand carded rolags or fine hand combed top as desired, which will cost extra depending on how difficult the fiber is to process.
A. Jacob lambswool. Very soft but lots of large vm (so, easy to pick out) and nepps/noils. Those will stay in the fiber unless combed, so this tends to produce a very soft, bumpy yarn. I love this fleece but I just can't seem to use it up. Primarily dark brown, but I also have some white and mixed as well. I have about 8 ounces. Washed but still a tiny bit greasy (just to my preference). $3 an ounce.
B: Rambouillet. I have almost a pound of this stuff. Incredibly buttery soft. Like touching seafoam. But it has a ton of fine VM, so it can only be cleaned either lock by lock on hand cards or combed. I am willing to clean it for you. Takes a long time to get into a spinnable state but it is SO worth it. $2 an ounce. SOLD
C: Breed unknown. Some sections are salmon pink, others closer to hot pink. Not much vm, can be combed open lock by lock on hand cards or combed into top. Yields a silky, strong, hairy yarn. Willing to process for you (this would be one of the cheaper ones to do, it's very easy). I have 5 ounces. $2 an ounce. SOLD
D & E: These are both rya lambswool, naturally dyed with yellow onion skin (the bright yellow one with alum, the copper one with copper). Very soft and silky, spins up to a surprisingly robust yarn. Absolute treat to work with. Some vm but the nature of this fleece causes the vm to fall out pretty easily. I have about a pound total. Will process for you. Washed and dyed by myself. $5 an ounce. D IS SOLD, E IS STILL AVAILABLE
F: Sunshine Shetland. Very soft and fine. Naturally dyed, again with onion skins. The tips are somewhat felted and need to be pulled off, which is quick and easy. If combed lock by lock and then spun that way you can get a subtle gradient of orange to yellow with each lock... absolutely gorgeous. Will process for you. I have about 10 ounces. Washed and dyed by myself. $5 per ounce. SOLD
G: Red Hampshire. Not neon red like in the picture, more of a brick red. Very soft and foamy. Some vm. Easy to process on hand cards by combing lock by lock or turning into a rolag. Washed and dyed (using food coloring) by myself. I only have an ounce and a quarter--which is $6 for all of it. SOLD
Tumblr media
COMBING WASTE GRAB BAGS
These are 1 ounce bags of primarily combing waste (so, short fibers and likely some vm) along with other interesting scrap such as mohair locks, colorful merino, and sometimes the occasional single rolag. Lots of the colors are naturally dyed by myself. Great for turning into rolags or using for batt fodder. These are $5 USD if you're buying more than one item (that could be yarn, another grab bag, some fleece, etc) or $10 USD each if you are only buying a single grab bag.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SPINDLES
Lastly, I'm also selling some spindles. A-C are whittled and decorated by myself. D is a beautiful Dealgan which I never could figure out how to use.
A. Supported spindle carved from a fruit tree. I gave it a steeple shape, which does make it slow to spin with. Really enjoyable for special spins that you want to do slowly and thoughtfully. Small spindle, about the length of my hand. $55 USD or best offer.
B. Onion dome supported spindle. Very light for its size, so it can hold a decent cop on it. Small spindle--about the length of my hand. $50 USD or best offer. SOLD ! thank you 🩵🩵🩵
C: Larch spindle. This one has lots of beautiful spalting, as well as being woodburned. Also the length of my hand. Has a very distinct feel to it, sort of in an alive way. $90 USD or best offer.
D: Lightning Dealgan. I got it for $50 and it's basically unused, so reselling for $50 USD. Very heavy and smooth.
And thats it ! If you don't want to buy anything but still wish to help me make rent, you can also donate to my kofi, which would mean the world to me <3

Tumblr media
A devastating rail crash that left almost 300 people dead has refocused international attention on the importance of railways in the lives of Indians.
Indeed, to many Western observers, images of men and women crammed into overcrowded cars serve as a metaphor for modern India. Take, for example, a report by German newspaper Der Spiegel on India’s population surpassing China’s. Published just weeks before the accident in Odisha province on June 2, the now much-criticized cartoon depicted a shabby Indian train crammed with passengers rushing past a streamlined Chinese train with only two people in it.
Where does this enduring image in the West of Indian railways – and of India – come from? As a scholar of Indian history and author of 2015 book “Tracks of Change: Railways and Everyday Life in Colonial India,” I believe the answers lie in the gigantic infrastructure projects of the 19th century – forged at the intersection of colonial dictates and capitalist demands.
---
A carrier of freight, not people
Railways remain the backbone of passenger traffic in India, transporting some 23 million people daily. In the pre-pandemic 2018-19 financial year, 7.7 billion passenger journeys in India. [...] Yet, when first planned in the 1840s, India’s railways were intended to primarily transport freight and livestock, not people. Indians were thought unlikely to become railway passengers by directors of the English East India Co., a merchant monopoly that gradually annexed and administered large parts of India under U.K. crown control. [...] However, early colonial railway policy was driven by pervasive Orientalist imaginings of a people rendered immobile by poverty, living in isolated villages [...]. The trope interlocked with colonial thinking that railways would foster greater industrialization which in turn would further a capitalist economy. They also aligned with the practical needs of a colonial trading monopoly which needed raw materials for English industries, such as cotton, to be moved swiftly and efficiently from India’s interiors to port towns [...].
---
Despite the doubters, the new Indian railways attracted an increasing number of passengers. The half-million passengers recorded in 1854 when tracks became operational increased to 26 million in 1875. By 1900, annual passenger figures stood at 175 million and then almost trebled to 520 million by 1919-20. By the time of the partition of India in 1947 it had risen to more than 1 billion passenger journeys annually. Indeed, images of overcrowded trains came to epitomize the upheaval of partition, with the rail system used to carry swaths of uprooted peoples across the soon-to-be Pakistan-India border. Third-class passengers, overwhelmingly Indians, comprised almost 90% of this traffic. These escalating figures did not, however, generate a lowering of fares. Nor did they result in any substantial improvements in the conditions of [...] travel. [...]
---
The generally British railway managers seemed disinclined to remedy systematic overcrowding, which included transporting passengers in wagons meant for livestock. Rather, they insisted that such overcrowding was caused by the peculiar habits and inclinations of Indian passengers: their alleged [...] inclination to follow one another “like sheep” into crowded carriages. These attributes were soon rendered into a more public narrative, especially among Western mindsets. Journalist H. Sutherland Stark, writing for the industry publication Indian State Railways Magazine in 1929, stated that though “unversed” in railway administration and traffic control, he knew railway facilities were not the problem. Rather, Indian passengers lacked the mental preparedness, “self-possession” and “method” necessary to travel like “sane human beings.” Stark suggested passenger education as a solution to the perceived problem, making railway travel a tool for “self-composure and mass orderliness.” [...]
---
More than a century later, this depiction endures, though, ironically, it now serves as a foil to understanding contemporary India. In a piece published in The New York Times on March 12, 2005, the author lauded the then-new Delhi metro, emphasizing that it had “none of the chaotic squalor of hawkers and beggars that characterizes mainline railroads in India, nor do desperate travelers hang from the sides of the trains.” As the debate rages on whether safety has taken a back seat to “glossy modernization projects” in India – early analyses suggest signaling failure might have caused June 2, 2023, accident – railways continue to represent India’s history.
In the heyday of empire, they were deemed the technology through which Britain would drag India into capitalist modernity. In 1947, they became a leitmotif for the trauma of the partition that accompanied the independence of India and Pakistan. As the coverage of Odisha accident reminds us, it continues to be a metaphor in the West for evaluating contemporary India.

Train fact: the longest* train ever
like all things to do with railways, you can get pretty granular and pedantic with this one, so this is likely to also be the longest post ever. Sorry, but actual facts (and pretty pictures) under the cut!
The longest passenger train in regular service is Australia's 'Ghan, a luxury tourist train that runs between Adelaide and Darwin, and averages 774 m/2,539ft in length. that's twice as long as the Empire State building is tall.
Tumblr media
(id in alt)
The reason I say "in regular service" is because the longest passenger train EVER was run by the Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland, to celebrate 175 years of Swiss railways, and that was more than twice that long at 1,910m/6266.4ft. Almost an entire Kentucky Derby worth of train! It had to go incredibly slowly, maxing out at 35km/h, to avoid overloading the electric systems of the railway and local power grids.
youtube
[Video desc: a youtube video from CBS news of the recordbreaking passenger train. The train is made up of several red electric trains coupled together, and moves through alpine landscapes of mountainds and coniferous forest. It is so long that it is visible only in coils, like a snake. Some shots show the train leaving one tunnel while entering another, or driving under a viaduct while the tail end crosses it, and several shots show people watching and taking photographs.]
But, the thing with passenger trains is that they have a lot of rules and regulations applied to them that freight doesn't have to follow. So freight trains get HYUGE.
The average American freight train (I consider the USA to be freight trains' natural habitat because there is a whole bunch of wide open space for for them to crawl around) is 5400 feet long, and the standard in Europe is around 3000ft. That's a 10-20 minute walk at average adult walking speed, just to go from end to end. You know when you stop at a level crossing, and a train goes by, and it seems like it's going by forever? That was probably one of these.
But the average frieght train is peanuts to mining trains. Trains came from the mines, and they still dominate there. The biggest trains in the world are consists of ore and coal, run by tiny crews from extraction point to export. This has always been true.
For example, the Datong–Qinhuangdao railway in China runs coal trains daily that are 2.614 km/8576 ft long. That's more than 1.5 miles, or three times as long as the burj khalifa is tall. And that's the standard for that line.
Tumblr media
(id in alt)
But that doesn't break any records.
The longest production train, running regularly, is the Sishen–Saldanha railway line's maganese/iron ore train. These trains are four kilometers long. 4,000 meters, almost half the height of the highest peak on earth, in wagons full of metals. Too long to be seen in a single photograph- the one below was stitched together from four separate pictures, taken from the air:
Tumblr media
(id in alt)
and that's still not the record!
The record for longest frieght train is held by BHP, an Australian mining company. It was made for the record, but the capacity is still there. This train ran on june 21st 2011, and was 682 wagons long, over seven kilometers. Almost twice the length of the Sishen–Saldanha's, and a quarter the height of Olympus mons. If you stood this train on its end, it would be taller than Mt Denali. If you started at the front of the lead locomotive, and ran as fast as you physically could, you wouldn't reach the last wagon for an hour.
There are entire branch lines shorter than this train.
Unfortunately, there are no good photos, because nobody in space had time for railfanning that day, but there are plenty of pictures of other BHP trains!

Not only do they apparently not have the money to cover the bond, they’re combining two companies to cover the bond, one of which is apparently not even licensed in New York; which means it’s not a valid company; which means the bond is not valid. Latisha James is planning to start proceedings to attach property.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
March 12, 2023
Heather Cox Richardson
At 6:15 this evening, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen, Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome H. Powell, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chairman Martin J. Gruenberg announced that Secretary Yellen has signed off on measures to enable the FDIC to fully protect everyone who had money in Silicon Valley Bank, Santa Clara, California, and Signature Bank, New York. They will have access to all of their money starting Monday, March 13. None of the losses associated with this resolution, the statement said, “will be borne by the taxpayer.”
But, it continued, “Shareholders and certain unsecured debtholders will not be protected. Senior management has also been removed. Any losses to the Deposit Insurance Fund to support uninsured depositors will be recovered by a special assessment on banks, as required by law.”
The statement ended by assuring Americans that “the U.S. banking system remains resilient and on a solid foundation, in large part due to reforms that were made after the financial crisis that ensured better safeguards for the banking industry. Those reforms combined with today's actions demonstrate our commitment to take the necessary steps to ensure that depositors' savings remain safe.”
It’s been quite a weekend.
On Friday, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) failed in the largest bank failure since 2008. At the end of December 2022, SVB appears to have had about $209 billion in total assets and about $175 billion in deposits. This made SVB the sixteenth largest bank in the U.S., big in its sector but small compared with the more than $3 trillion JPMorgan Chase. This is the first bank failure of the Biden presidency (while Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that he had not heard of any bank failures during his father’s presidency, there were sixteen, eight of which happened before the pandemic). In fact, generally, a few banks fail every year; it is an oddity that none failed in 2021 or 2022.
The failure of SVB created shock waves for three reasons. First, SVB was the major bank for technology start-ups, so it involved much of a single sector of the economy. Second, only about $8 billion of the $173 billion worth of deposits in SVB were less than the $250,000 that the FDIC insures, meaning that the companies who had made those deposits might not get their money back quickly and thus might not be able to make payrolls, sparking a larger crisis. Third, there was concern that the problems that plagued SVB might cause other banks to fail, as well.
What seems to have happened, though, appears to be specific to SVB. Bloomberg’s Matt Levine explained it most clearly:
As the bank for start-ups, which have a lot of cash from investors and the initial public offering of stock, SVB had lots of deposits. But start-up companies don’t need much in the way of loans because they’ve just gotten so much cash and they don’t yet have fixed assets. So, rather than balancing deposits with loans that fluctuate with interest rates and thus keep a bank on an even keel, SVB’s directors took a gamble that the Federal Reserve would not raise interest rates. They invested in long-term Treasury bonds that paid better interest rates than short-term securities. But when, in fact, interest rates went up, the value of those long-term bonds sank.
For most banks, higher interest rates are good news because they can charge more for loans. But for SVB, they hurt.
Then, because SVB concentrated on start-ups, they had another problem. Start-ups are also hurt by rising interest rates because they tend to promise to deliver returns in the long term, which is fine so long as interest rates stay steadily low, as they have been now for years. But as interest rates go up, investors tend to like faster returns than most start-ups can deliver. They take their money to places that are going to see returns sooner. For SVB, that meant their depositors began to need some of that money they had dumped into the bank and started to withdraw their deposits.
So SVB sold securities at a loss to cover those deposits. Other investors panicked as they saw SVB selling at a loss and losing deposits, and they, too, started yanking their money out of the bank, collapsing it. Banks that have a more diverse client base are less likely to lose everyone all at once.
The FDIC took control of the bank on Friday. On Sunday, regulators also shut down Signature Bank, based in New York, which was a major bank for the cryptocurrency industry. Another crypto-friendly bank, Silvergate, failed last week.
Congress created the FDIC under the Banking Act of 1933 to restore trust in the American banking system after more than a third of U.S. banks failed after the Great Crash of 1929, sparking runs on banks as depositors rushed to take out their money whenever rumors suggested a bank was in trouble, thus causing more failures. The FDIC is an independent agency that insures deposits, examines and supervises banks to make sure they’re healthy, and manages the fallout when they’re not. The FDIC is backed by the full faith and credit of the government, but it is not funded by the government. Member banks pay insurance dues to cover bank failures, and when that isn’t enough money, the FDIC can borrow from the federal government or issue debt.
Over the weekend, the crisis at SVB became a larger argument over the role of government in the protection of the economy. Tech leaders took to social media to insist that the government must cover all the deposits in the failed bank, not just the ones covered under FDIC. They warned that the companies whose deposits were uninsured would fail, taking down the rest of the economy with them.
Others noted that the very men who were arguing the government should protect all the depositors’ money, not just that protected under the FDIC, have been vocal in opposing both government regulation of their industry and government relief for student loan debt, suggesting that they hate government action…except for themselves. They also pointed out that in 2018, under Trump, Congress weakened government regulations for banks like SVB and that SVB’s president had been a leading advocate for weakening those regulations. Had those regulations been in place, they argue, SVB would have remained solvent.
It appears that Yellen, Powell, and Gruenberg, in consultation with the president (as required), concluded that the collapse of SVB and Signature Bank was a systemic threat to the nation’s whole financial system, or perhaps they concluded that the panic over that collapse—which is a different thing than the collapse itself—was a threat to the nation’s financial system. They apparently decided to backstop the banks to prevent more damage. But they are eager to remind people that they are not using taxpayer money to shore up a poorly managed bank.
Right now, this appears to leave us with two takeaways. The Biden administration had been considering tightening the banking regulations that were loosened under Trump, and it seems likely that the need for the federal government to step in to protect the depositors at SVB and Signature Bank will make it much harder for those opposed to regulation to keep that from happening. There will likely be increased pressure on the Biden administration to guard against helping out the wealthy and corporations rather than ordinary Americans.
And, perhaps even more important, the weekend of panic and fear over the collapse of just one major bank should make it clear that the Republicans’ threat to default on the U.S. debt, thus pulling the rug out from under the entire U.S. economy unless they get their way, is simply unthinkable.

Important housekeeping note: I'm changing the order in which I handle requests. Previously I was processing them chronologically (first in, first out), but I'm now prioritizing requests according to content. Please take a peek at my pinned post for more information.
I wonder how many of you would have voted "smash" for the Rock before last week. Like, just how much good will was erased in an instant? So far, events have interfered with poll results twice in the three months of this blog's existence (three months of the most insane wrestling news in the history of pro wrestling, tbh), and I'm contemplating running those polls again in a year or so if requests get slow and the events are behind us.
Our collective father Christian Cage has taken the top spot for total votes, with 582 people casting votes. He is No. 34 overall in terms of smashability by percent, but just due to the sheer number of votes cast, he received more smash votes (447) than anyone else. Like, the only people to receive more TOTAL votes than that are Punk (527), Hook (449), and Hangman (447). I was really hoping he'd pass the 600 vote mark, but not today.
Sami Zayn also joined the "Whole Lotta Votes" club with 435, putting him at No. 7 overall.
And now for some of my favorite tags and comments
@howlinghunters on Sami Zayn: #Listen I'm smashing but only if he lets me comb his beard
@pavlovean on Dijak: #seeing the results of this post felt like someone telling me they wouldn’t fuck my dad#like i’m kinda offended by it but it feels weird to be so offended by it#like i don’t want to fuck him but i love him so what’s wrong with you? think you’re too good for dadjak?
@rosabellebelieve on Dolph Ziggler: #but AM i allowed to pin him down and deep condition his hair? bc that man has been frying his hair for years
@mancewarner on AJ Lee: #praying for the day her and punk spot me across the bar and approach me saying they like my vibe

Wczoraj nie pisałam. Sorki. Atak migrenowy. Znowu.
