People debating on iwtvtwt whether Louis and Armand actually loved each other or not, like love is a binary state you either achieve or don’t. Like I don’t think Louis or Armand could even tell you for sure what proportion of their feelings are love vs resentment vs spite vs acceptance vs belonging vs brainwashing vs needed release vs anger trapped in amber vs straight up abuse. 77 years is a long time and making a blanket judgement on whether they were in love or not is just not interesting to me when we have five thousand more specific and varied emotions to explore between them.

I know this is a proxy for ship wars in some ways because people want Loustat’s love to be more pure, and like I do agree that Louis and Lestat are destined to orbit each other in a way that Louis and Armand aren’t, and are able to forgive each other and grow in a beautiful and hopeful way that Armand is so far away from right now. But Loustat’s love is just as complex and varied and I am similarly as uninterested in flattening them down to uncomplicated soul mates or whatever.

I’m too aro for this argument man. I don’t even know what the fuck romantic love even really is. Trying to certify the vampires as in true love or not makes my head hurt.

Relatedly (?) I have a Loumand video edit to post on Mon. And I’d like to think it captures some of their tragic complexity (and Armand’s cruelty towards Louis). So look forward to that I guess!
