also one last uni post. maybe a little gripe. finally taking 2nd cour digital art after 3 semesters and instead of being Adobe Illustrator™ class with a sprinkle of photoshop (actually i will give her one point. for one illustrator project she did have us use audacity for a portion and taught us how to corrupt wav files into still imgs) it is now Adobe CC™ class with zero illustrator, more photoshop, and an app-exclusive drawing program only available thru CC (she has lost the one point indefinitely.) the only silver lining is premiere pro is the other software being taught which i would love to learn to do more with. on the other hand. the student examples she skimmed thru to show off the PP project were not inspiring and i feel like if i have to incorporate video aspects into my art it is quickly going to become more abt checking off rubric boxes to get a decent grade instead of doing smth i want
#ctag#SIGHHHH long post it will not be the last abt da this year#last time i was in da1 i did not finish a single project#they were completed in a sense that they looked good n got me an a+ in the course#but 100% def not as far as i wanted to go w any of them#and that made me hate it all at the end of the semester#but this is my one art class and i have one other class w lab and another 1 credit hr#so i am hoping that i can devote more time and make work i am proud of#and that it won't be jus 'doing this for class' constantly#waiting for first project info before making any hard decisions but if research#is required as an aspect and all the works thru the semester have to theme then#i rly want to try and make it a scenery yr bc when i did that for printmaking i did copious amnts of research+concepts#bc i took a sinnoh location each time n found the hokkaido basis and local flora etc to recreate#an illustration reminiscent of what the pkmn location would look like in the real world#and i could totally get away w that again plus it would be so much fun#anyway i have things to do but tldr is da class is once again adobe-centric which i hate and loathe#what if i went off the rails and taught myself pixel art and say i did it in photoshop#would she buy it like. does ps have those capabilities#it is not a graphics designers job to be proficient in adobe cc#i rly wish she would understand that bc this is the only class in the program that pushes adobe and nothing else#what applicable skills am i going to take from this class if i never use an adobe product again?#digital art has the potential to be so generic and yet here she is. ruining it.#(also LMAOOO i jus remembered she had a clause in the syllabus abt not using other#third-party software that wasn't adobe for any class work like WHAT#specifically she said 'hey we're learning pp and not final cut or sony vegas so don't use those ever'#which like is REALLY hammering the skills-not-applicable-to-non-adobe-products nail#also wtf i would love to learn sony vegas. i already decently know premiere teach me something else#100% i will be using a non-adobe program to work on a project jus to spite her)

I've been using this map as my imagined visual of the Japanese Pokemon regions. (Kitakami is an actual real world city located south of "Sinnoh" aka Hokkaido! Actually there's a whole mountain range in that area known as the Kitakami Mountains)
Mossdeep City, the location of the Space Center is actually 1:1 where Japan's Space Center is, not kidding. A bit weird, right? While in the games, we think as Mossdeep being East of Mt. Chimney, but it's actually South of it when oriented the correct way.
Tumblr media
Whether regions do make up an entire country when put together is not confirmed, there might not be a typical government that we see IRL, but regions that are very close to one another probably have unity in very similar cultural identities.
Anabel in my verse is Japanese, and I'm wondering about the the idea that she is Kanto born and her parents have business HQs in Kanto (Celadon City is where Tokyo City should be! Gosh, but every city in Kanto looks so small even in remakes! They need to fix this because Celadon is LITERALLY TOKYO i should know i went there) -- and while Anabel is Kanto born, she spent the majority of her life in Hoenn or at least near Hoenn with her grandparents/extended family.
Looker in my verse is European, but he speaks in a distinctly American accent... Wondering if perhaps he was born in a region equivalent to Germany or whatnot and spent a lot of time acclimating to America? Or he's only ever grown up European and he just developed an American accent for hiding identity purposes... Also! Kalos does have two regions! North and South. The mountains that border Paldea are primarily belonging to Southern Kalos. (Just wait until Legends Z-A destroys this with a random line of dialogue or random map asset.)
EDIT: The Legendary Beasts and the Kanto Birds are migratory and have been spotted all over the place! It's interesting to note that Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres go north as Professor Oak said "it is part of their migration," possibly implying they are a Japanese species. Legendary Beasts can appear in Kanto! (Don't hunt for them, FRLG Beasts have three IVs set to 0 due to a glitch they're practically useless) and additionally, Regirock/Regice/Registeel seem to have units in Sinnoh, though another Regigigas can be encountered in Hoenn. Perhaps Wherever there is a Regigigas present, there will be Regi Pokemon somewhere buried in the area?

I had been going over various fan theories regarding ZA, and one I thought was totally dumb was the reintroduction of Ultra Wormholes. In Kalos.
I thought they were stupid, much like how I thought certain poketubers for thinking Kalos went to war with Alola, Kanto, Galar, Sinnoh, Hisui, and Paldea.
But, the longer I entertained the thought, the more I found ideas to actually give weight to UWs in Lumiose. Now granted, I don't think it's past a 30% chance of happening, but Game Freak keeps doing weird shit lately and the weather here keeps turning to storms at 4% chance of sprinkles, so let's just... let's just provide some support beams and pretend to be devil's advocate for a bit, just because I find the idea fun for a thought process.
Again, I'm not 100% committed to the idea, but I will entertain the bit to see how it could work.
DD's theory corner under the cut
Now first, we would need to ask "why" UWs in Kalos to begin with. Stretch your arms, stretch your hammies, we're gonna reach a bit while we do some mental gymnastics.
So
Why?
Lore theory: we're gonna need some way to isekai some poor Gen Alpha iPad teen to- presumably- Lumiose City 200ish years ago during the same time frame that Legends Arceus happened- irl, during the time period Japan colonized modern Hokaido and roughly the same Era the infamous Paris Rennovation came about (there's lots of videos and theories going over how this might be the case, pick your poison- Logstin went over the theory in a pretty digestable video).
So why not the same method as LA? While there's nothing saying Lumiose can't have Space Time Distortions like Hisui, you do have to remember that in the events of LA, all of that happens because Giratina started messing around with reality and pissing off Dialga and Palkia so that Giratina could get revenge on Arceus for sealing it away long ago. That was the method in which Ingo got transported to the past without memories, somehow traversing modern day New York to Hokkaido wilderness 200 years ago. Arceus sends the player back through the distortion above Mt Coronet as well, and we literally fall out of the sky according to witnesses.
So again, why not? Giratina and Arceus are busy in Hisui having their feud at this time- lore wise anyway.
However, the REAL reason I find this difficult is because that's a Gen 4 heavy premise involving the creation and maintenance of the fabric of time and space itself- Kalos is Gen 6, not really about those two.
So what other options are left?
1. Hoopah- in ORAS, Hoopah is highly implied to be why we're able to come into contact with so many random legendary Pokemon due to its rings connecting 2 spaces- the problem with this, I find, is that we don't really have evidence to say it could involve time travel- certainly explains getting a Sinnoh Legendary while in Hoenn, but not how someone could go back or forward in time.
2. Time Machine- as of SV and Indigo Disk (and as of late may/early june 2024), we now have time travel as a viable plot device, and seemingly space doesn't seem to be much of an issue since we Boot Strapped the book that would make the professor go crazy and create it to begin with. The issue here is that it seems to only be in places connected to the same Crystals of Area Zero, like the Crystal Pool, and that was just a temporary happenstance caused by Terapagos itself on a whim.
I won't completely dismiss this possibility- after all, we have a number of scientists that abandoned the professor after he went nuts and could have easily built another time machine in Kalos or something- however, the issue here becomes both lore and meta conflicting.
A. The time machine requires a TON of power to maintain, that's why it was built in Area Zero to begin with. The Crystals grow like crazy there and can easily power it for as long as the professor willed it- and mind you, we turned it off. That's not saying it can't be turned back on, but I doubt we could use the same one for Lumiose. Why?
B. Think back to Legends Arceus in relation to SwSh. The one connection to Galar we had was Laventon and a bit of industrial revolution tech. In fact, there's no Galar related Gen 8 Pokemon there and no discernable connection to Dynamax energy either (although the "bigger Pokemon" bit is recycled by Alphas, which lets face it, SwSh recycled that from Totems of Alola- of which Alphas are kinda those but Different tm). In other words, even though Paldea IS next door, if we look at it from a meta development perspective, it's most likely that- at most- we'll have a similarity and not exact mirrored causation.
To play 2nd Devil's Advocate, sure, they could theoretically power a time machine with modern day Infinity Energy- but you have to think that the professor could have turned towards that if it was a sustainable power source instead of the Crystals.
All of this being said, I won't completely dismiss another time machine of some kind. A wise man once said "shit happens, my dude."
3. Ultra Wormholes
Now that we're finished entertaining the second devil, we're back to the first I started with. UWs- Ultra Wormholes going forward- aren't strictly an Alolan thing. Yes, they are strongly associated with Alola, but as of Crown Tundra we have proof that they can and have appeared elsewhere and can even merge with other phenomenon like dynamax energy, paving way for Dynamax Adventures and its legendary bargain sale and even dumping our own Cosmog on us.
UWs can mimic the effects of TSDs- Time Space Distortions, taking us to different universes, dimensions, planets, and perhaps times. Remember how in Ultra SM we saw an apocalyptic Hau'oli City ravaged by Guzzlord? Remember how we could go visit alternative worlds where humans, Pokemon, and Ultra Beasts could live and thrive peacefully? Granted, we and the Ultra Recon Squad needed box legendaries to do it under controlled methods, but control isn't entirely necessary in this scenario of time traveling.
Fallers- if you don't remember the term, that's a term used to describe someone who fell from a different dimension and lost their memories of who they were- we could say Ingo became one from the TSD, Looker as well for some unknown reason in the AU ORAS takes place in-perhaps tied to Hoopah's rings. The term Faller, however, stems from the original SM and was used to describe Annabel- former Hoenn Battle Tower Frontier Brain in Emerald who lost all of her memories and came back as the chief of Interpol (or in Ultra, as Looker's new partner basically).
If we remember too, there might be another method to control these given how Rainbow Rocket formed from universes where the bosses succeeded.
Continuing on, you might ask why UWs in Lumiose in this particular case?
From here on, this will be conjecture, theorizing, guessing, and referencing old rumors. I did say I didn't 100% buy it, we're just giving this idea legs to stand on.
So to begin with, let's reference an old rumor that a few may have heard before- full disclosure, it came from a 4chan post that claimed to be a dev talking about scrapped ideas and content originally planned for XY- this was recent as of... a couple or more years ago, maybe. There's not much solid proof it's true in any regard, but the details mentioned do make it a curious read that I'd say might have a chance of at least partially being true, given how game development and Game Freak tend to work.
To summarize what I remember: basically during XY's development plan, there was a wildly different story planned at the time compared to the rather generic adventure we had. Basically, aliens were supposedly invading Kalos and Team Flare was part of it- supposedly this is why Xerosic and Vallerie look so strange. They were ALIENS. Fairy Types also came from space in this regard, as did Mega Evolution with the stones originally being part of the space ship. Sycamore and Lysander were also planned to be sort of a split mind 2in1 villain as well, and the XYZ legends look so different compared to other legendary Pokemon because they were also aliens of some kind. Also, Olympia's space-themed psychic type gym was apparently a remnant of this idea- she was originally supposed to play a much larger role in the story.
This idea was ultimately canned- too ambitious for the time limits they had. However, elements of the idea were supposedly reworked into ORAS and Alola following. You can sort of see where this is going with Ultra Recon Squad, Lusamine going kinda crazy as Mother Beast, Z Crystals being from Necrozma from another dimension, etc.
That's another thing- Alola took Kalos's Z. Not just the Z in Z Crystal, but Z as in Zygarde's additional formes, I think even his cave if memory serves. It also took Ash Greninja and the other Gen 6 megas and primals that Kalos didn't get to see. In that sense, it could be fair to say Kalos could use UWs in this sense.
Hisui dipped it's hands in a lot of other Gen pockets- Gen 2's signature Apricorns that were exclusive to Johto and never found in Sinnoh, Gens 5, 6, and 7 Pokemon and forms including Sylveon and Alolan Vulpix despite not appearing in the DP remakes, even regional variants and even ancestors from the Pearl Clan and Galaxy Expedition team to other regional characters. If we look at this, we can safely say Legends Games don't have to strictly abide by what the original region introduced and can borrow elements introduced later. So in this case, and looking at Crown Tundra again, we can say it's not off the table.
Getting back to Z- if you've read another theory of mine where I talked about how Z-A could be read either as "Zee-Ay" or "Zed-Ay" depending on your dialect, and maybe "Zeta" depending on your pronunciation, and how Z is how Zeta is represented in Greek (remember Alpha, Omega, and Delta were used before), there's something else neat to it: Zeta is the 6th letter of the Greek Alphabet- like gen 6, but has a numeric value of 7. Like... Gen 7, with UWs.
Now lets continue with another theory I posited a few posts ago: The A in Z-A. Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde- XYZ- are a trio that represent a 3 dimensional view on a grid- important for the first 3d main line game. X is left and right, Y is up and down, and Z is sort of the 3 dimensional area that goes through both- 3 dimensions. So where does A come in? I had theorized A would be another legendary- much like Enamorus in Legends Arceus was introduced, but A in this case would serve a bigger and actual role here. The XYZ trio are based on various creatures of Norse mythos, including the deer that feed on Yggdrasil and provide life- Xerneas being both the deer and the trees; Yveltal being the hawk or eagle that rests atop the world tree, and Zygarde being based on the Nidhogg. A could be Ratatosk- a gossipy squirrel that kept trying to start shit between the eagle? I think? and Nidhogg. A in this case serving as a foil to Zygarde, since it's probably that Xerneas and Yveltal will still be asleep by this period. That's all the short end of my theory.
So now how does A fit into this? If we take into account that XYZ are the 3d plain, then A must be something beyond that. A 4th dimension, something beyond standard 3 dimensions- and what are Ultra Wormholes if not another gateway to other dimensions? With Ultra Space being the 4th, if we look at it a certain way?
In this scenario, A would be something from beyond Earth to some capacity, giving Zygarde agency in this story to defend the planet. Remember, we're only going to be in Lumiose, supposedly, so a localized danger from another world could pose significant threat. It could just be a monster of the week, it could just be alternative forms of Xerneas and Yveltal, it could be many things from beyond.
Actually, now that I think about it, Legends Arceus took Regional Variants to the next level by introducing them to a past region AND giving them to starters- maybe A in this case is not Ratatosk, but perhaps a Convergent Legendary from another universe or planet- an Anti-Zygarde, since we just got convergents in SV.
I had more rambling, but a small interruption came up as I was typing this and I lost my trail of thought by the time I came back.
I think I'll close this off for now. I'm still not 100% convinced of UW's in Lumiose, but I'm not opposed to the idea either. After building it up, I think there's plenty of ways to make this actually work, but I think I won't commit fully to this piece unless they show signs of it happening in a trailer or something. I'm open to many ideas, including the idea that this Lumiose we visit isn't actually real, but virtual- or perhaps there's an underground portion we haven't seen- but that's a different idea for another day.
thank you for reading this far, hope this entertained you for a bit

in hindsight, easily the funniest remnant of Pokemon's early days being set in the (kinda-)real world is the Kanto Region.
You can scrub Indian Elephants and Lightning Americans from the series all you want, the Kanto Region is grandfathered in. It's iconic. You can't possibly get rid of it without a full reboot.
All the later games made up fantasy world versions of wherever they were based on. Hokkaido? No, no. Sinnoh. New York? Unova, actually.
But Gen 1 forever takes place here:

OOC Post
Aight y'all I didn't wanna have to post this but here we are.
Let's talk about: OOC-IC Divide, religion, and personal canons!
First and foremost: Just because someone posts about topics IC, does not mean it is the player's OOC opinion. But also! That doesn't give you the right to go ask about it OOC, either. Generally, politics, religion, and medical information are all firmly classified as "none of your business" and to be left alone. Just because someone's playing Lysandre doesn't mean they want to kill all humans, and just because someone's playing Giovanni doesn't make them a crime boss. If you wanna chat OOC with someone, that's your right! But don't go hassling someone on Tumblr over it.
Since my posts on religion ICly are what brought this up, let's also talk about personal canons!
I know a lot of people disagree, but in my personal take on Pokemon canon, Arceus is not and cannot be a 1:1 analogy to Christianity, for so many reasons I don't want to get into. Hell, the only characters who to my knowledge even for-sure know about Arceus are Volo and the PLA Protagonist. It's never really brought up or referred to outside of those times.
Don't get me wrong- I don't mind IC conflict. In fact, I quite enjoy it! But I was absolutely not expecting that post to turn into a huge thing. It was meant to be a comedic post- Sophora going that hard on not believing Arceus existed, while being objectively wrong about that fact. It was meant to be a goof. A joke. Fun.
I did not expect to get a bunch of people angry about it as though I was disparaging their OOC religions. By saying that a legendary Pokemon wasn't real. Y'all do understand the difference here, right?
There has been exactly one church seen in all of Pokemon and it is not known what it worships. Arceus is not mentioned by anyone to be worshipped at all, or even to be known about. Hell, in-universe, there's that statue in Sinnoh that's a weird fusion of Palkia and Dialga because people don't know about them. Arceus cannot be a 1:1 take on Christianity- In the first place, it's the creator god of a region based on Hokkaido and the Ainu people, not Christianity. Arceus came out of a primordial egg, and didn't create the universe in seven days. If you want to treat it that way in your canon, that's fine, but it's not the case in mine, where it's an obscure thing of myth and legend. Don't force your version of canon on others who don't want to play that way.
Any further asks on religion that do not make it VERY clear it's respecting the IC-OOC divide will be immediately deleted and blocked.

The beauty of Ecruteak city
it is widely known that pokemon, in terms of the inspiration for its regions, gave the international jump on generation 5 with the region of unova/teselia, wich is based on the U.S.A., but mainly, in New York City.
but what about the first 4 regions? are they all based in japan?, well they are, but not in japan as a hole, but in different regions of the country, kanto is based on the homonym area in japan, wich is located on honshu islan, the biggest one in the country, hoenn is based on the tropical kyushu island, and the cold and snowy region of sinnoh is based on the real life cold region of hokkaido, japan.
but today i´m going to be focusing on a part of the neighboring region to kanto, johto wich, even though its real life counter part is not directly next to kanto, it is on the pokemon world, and i want to focus especifically on a city of the johto region, that,m in my opinion, represents not only the beauty of the lore and design of the pokemon world, but also one of the most traditional japanese looking ones that tooks heavy inspirations on japanese arquitecture.
Being the perfect examples of this are the two main points of these city story-wise, the bell tower and the brass tower, used to adore the legendary pokemons of the johto region, ho-oh and lugia, these two towers are based on two buddist temples located in kyoto, wich are the kinkaku-ji andf the ginkaku-ji, both real life towers having on the top a statue of a golden bird-like creature wich could have been used as inspiration for the creation of ho-oh.
bu tin the games this is very different, being the bell tower the one to adore the bird like pokemon in this case, ho-oh, while the burned towe was used to adore lugia, but also being intertwined with the birth of the three legendary beasts, entei, raikou and probably the msot popular of the three even being a box art legendary, suicune. the burnt tower is said to have been destroyed by a fire 150 years before the generation 2 games take place, after the tower burned down to the ground, lugia fled to the whirl island, where he remains until the events of the games(in both editions, as this is a rare case where both box art legendaries can be caught in both games), while the tower was being burned three pokemon (not yet legendary but  ordinary pokemon, it is presumed they could have been the three gen 1 eeveelutions but it is just  a theory) died in the fire, but the phoenix like legendary pokemon ho-oh gave them new life as legendary pokemon, giving birth to these three legendarys who begin roaming the johto region once yo meet them on the underghround of the burnt tower, being suicune the one who take sa great interest in the player and apeearing multiple times on the remakes and crystal edition.
even though gameplaywise the player visits this city only three times in the game and for a total playtime of max. 1 hour, it is probably the most lore heavy city of any pokemon game ever, maybe competing only with the original cinnabar island and al the mew-mewtwo mistery, plus it can not be denied that is design is unique and unforgettable once you set foot in the city, specially in the remakes with enhanced visuals and beautiful OST, surely the pinnacle of pokemon world building and design

To answer the Anon who asked about regions, Gen 1 to 4 is based on various regions in Japan. Kanto is well...Kanto. Gen 2 is the Chiba region which is next to Kanto hence why you can visit Kanto in its postgame. Hoenn is the Kyushu region which explains its tropical nature and finally Sinnoh/Hishi is based on the Hokkaido region the most Northly region in Japan, hence why its so cold. Unova is indeed based on the New York State and Orre is based upon Arizona.
((That's it, basically!))

People are theorizing that Cyrus' ancestor is an ally, while the villain could be between Rowan's ancestor or a possible Cynthia ancestor. The direct did emphasize on the woman being cold but caring, so she'll be good most likely. I'm just saying with time and space being distorted along with bringing God, the BDSP chapter could be a more bizarre retelling of Legends. The Sinnoh underground will be the biggest highlight early on.
It’d be great thematically if the good guys’ ancestors were bad and the bad guy’s ancestor was good. She could be the Token Good Teammate because 1) the Galaxy Exploration Team is straight up called Team Galactic in Japanese and 2) uh, well, as it turns out, if you look at RL history with what happened in Hokkaido during the Meiji era, we’re, um, working with the colonizers here.
(Yeah, just found a few twitter threads and while it’s too early to tell which way the game’s story will go, uh, here’s hoping the Pokemon Company has the balls to call out Japan’s imperialist past, because...UHHHHHH...)

Pokespe Japanese to English Comparison Readthrough
Volume 1-Chapter 9
Alright, Bill's intro time!
Round 9: Vs Fearow/...But Fearow Itself!
-Translation notes:
As is common, Bill's Kansai-ben is localized as a Southern Drawl, due to similar stereotypes associated with those accents. They do add a few more little sayings like "a Metapod in molasses" in the En version.
Typo in the En version where they accidentally put that Red is on "Routes 24-24" instead of 24-25.
They localize Bill's addressing of Red as "nii-chan" as "boy," which I guess works?
-Commentary:
I kind of wish they'd run with the accents thing, give more Johtonians Kansai-ben, Hokkaido accents for Sinnoh characters, maybe Okinawan accents for Hoenn, etc.
Oh hey, the stances for moves thing that's later Pearl's specialty is first mentioned wayyyy back here with Bill recognizing Fearow's stance for Drill Peck!
I get the feeling Kusaka sometimes just reads through his older arcs for things to bring back.
Okay, not a lot to say here, but some things of note! See you next time!

Headcanon #1: This is what the Pokemon world looks like (roughly).
Kanto/Johto: They also have very temperate climates in the games, so they’re placed a bit above the equator (Not that you can tell in this picture. I tried).
Orange Islands/Sevii Islands: Both have ties to Kanto/Johto and have similar Pokemon, so they’re placed south. This fits with their warm climates.
Hoenn: A warm region, I placed it the furthest south. It has some Kanto/Johto pokemon and similar culture, so I placed it nearby.
Sinnoh: The coldest region to date, I placed it the furthest north. It’s implied in HGSS that it’s directly north of Johto.
Fiore/Almia/Oblivia: The three have a similar culture (no battling, pokemon rangers as an authority), so I placed them close together. Fiore was stated to be closest to Sinnoh in a special mission, so I placed Fiore just south of Sinnoh. I placed Almia south of Sinnoh because they’re both based on the Hokkaido region in Japan, and Almia’s northern mountains matched with Sinnoh’s. I also had the Haruba Desert (Almia) placed next to Orre since they have similar climates. Oblivia is placed close to the other two regions.
Orre: It mostly has Gen II and Gen III Pokemon. I considered placing it next to Johto for that reason, but that didn’t fit well with Almia. So it’s north of Kanto. In this position, Johto and Hoenn Pokemon could realistically migrate to Orre. This leaves the question of why there’s so little Kantonian Pokemon. I’ll make a post about how this is later.
Unova: In the games, it’s said to be far from the other regions. It also has a fairly cold climate, so I placed it far north.
Kalos: It’s shown in Couriway Town that Professor Sycamore came to the region by train. And given his use of Kanto starters, it’s plausible that he came from Kanto. This means that Kalos is connected to Johto/Kanto.
Alola: It has a lot of Kanto variants, and a similar culture, so it’s placed nearby.
Ferrum: The mountains in the northeast fit well with Unova’s western side.

Hokkaido, Japan
Tribes: Hōseki, Nejire, Oración, Pāru
Hosts: Allison, Andrew, Jay & Sara
Finale: Drew (Something with a tie over Jordan M., & Logan)
PotS: Steven T.
Virtually nothing is known about Survivor: Sinnoh, due to the lack of information on the wiki and released confessionals. However, Drew won the season after being tied with Jordan M., because Akito did not want to give him 1-2-3-4-5 placement.

the battle zone’s real-life location is a formerly-japanese-but-now-russian island called sakhalin. the lower half, specifically. the other island on the map where the pokemon league sits is based off a chain of japanese-owned islands that i can’t remember the name of and am too busy to look up right now. sakhalin is pretty barren, pretty remote, and pretty unpopulated. it’s also colder than hokkaido, being further north, but bc the pokemon-equivalent has an active volcano, the climate balances out.
i spent more time researching sakhalin on google earth than i did actually writing the entire travel part of part 4. like, an absurd amount of time. more than i needed to. but the result is a good portrayal, and an accurate, effortless one. here’s some geography stuff.
1. the squatty plants on sinnoh’s route 225 are probably stone pines. i say probably, bc i still came away unsure, but this was my best conclusion. i cross-referenced sakhalin flora with what i was seeing on google earth, paired with what was most common since these trees are everywhere in the battle zone. specifically they’re japanese stone pines, so more of a squatty bush than an actual tree. (also called dwarf siberian pines, or the genus name of the dwarf version, pinus pumila) in pokemon verse, i chose aguav berries as the pine’s fruit since the seeds grow in pink bundles, like an aguav plant in-game. also, an unripe pinecone is greet, so there’s that too.
2. southern sakhalin, that i can remember, doesn’t actually have black-sand beaches. there’s one in platinum off the base of stark mountain, but since that’s aniva bay area of sakhalin, it doesn’t match up great. the only thing similar is in northeastern sakhalin, off the sea of okhotsk, where dark mud will collect on the coast and turn the beach dark. i wrote it off as a game mechanic, saying ‘it’s from the ash from the volcano’, or something like that, and then referenced beaches in iceland that are actual black-sand beaches and really pretty.
3. aniva bay is southern sakhalin, essentially. it’s a fork, and in the middle is where the black sand beach is in platinum. in actuality, aniva bay is not that big. there’s a lighthouse off one fork, not tall or anything impressive, but it’s there. at one point i wanted law and luffy to sail in (i saw sail, i mean like surf on a pokemon okay) past the lighthouse, and go through the bay, and stop on the black sand beach. this was before i knew most anything about part four, though, and soon the idea was scrapped as i deviated towards the cargo ship taking them to fight area. also, aniva bay isn’t deep enough for whales to flop around in, and i realize since i called it a bay in tether that that should also hold true, but i did say it was a wailmer so let’s jus forget that inaccuracy and say its okay bc the whale is tiny.
4. stark mountain was a challenge i spent. so long. so so long. trying to find the  mountain range it was based off of. pokemon wikipedia was no help, bc sakhalin is huge. if i was gonna do anything for the pokemon community, i’d wanna go and edit articles to include real-life landmarks that in-game ones were based on. i think the closest thing i found to a once-volcano was more into the northern half of sakhalin, so after spending too much time looking into it, i jus wrote based on screenshots of stark mountain, and on my own intuition. also, yea, i used video game logic the closer they got to the volcano. please don’t depict characters holding cloth over their mouths to protect from sulfur ash if youre going for accuracy, bc thats not going to help.
5. the survival area and the ainu village. i wrote a little about the ainu in part one, while exploring law’s village. my main amount of research went into the ainu’s of sakhalin, though. it’s all sorta the same culture, since they all got kicked out migrated to hokkaido anyway, but there are a few differences. the sheer rock cliff is part of a sakhalin photoset i referenced, so it does exist, somewhere. yes, there are bears in sakhalin, perhaps even more than hokkaido, since it’s less-human-populated. but, again, also colder. i realize survival area is a settlement in platinum, but also.. its really small? and kinda nothing, tbh. so i transformed it into an ainu village, since it’s so outta the way of the other two areas down on each fork of the bay, and it’s closer to the volcano, where the fire goddess resides.
the ainu are the indigenous population of japan. i mentioned before, if you’ve read fma or one of arakawa’s spreads, you’ve probably heard of them. in fma, they’re the race that the ishvalans are based off of. nowadays, they reside in hokkaido, and a while ago they used to reside in lower sakhalin. i couldn’t figure up a creative name for tether for them and i was in so much of a time crunch that in the end i didnt bother, sue me. researching the ainu was most definitely one of the more time-consuming tasks. i spent a long time reading. i watched, after a good recommendation, all two seasons of golden kamuy (an excellent portrayal of hokkaido!ainu, btw, jus not exactly what i was going for) and all one season of sirius the jaegar, where i got the most help from. marking maps and writing the outline (and making myself remember why i dont ever outline. ever.) were definitely time-consuming, but ainu research was by far the most hours i spent on a task for tether (besides like, writing it.)
i still don’t feel like i did enough research, so the cultural things i did include i tried to keep vague to keep from portraying wrong. the bear ceremonies, the signs of summer through salmon (finneon) hunting and huki harvesting, the bear cub raising, the ripping of clothing in a funeral procession, and the kamuy (ainu gods) are all real things and part of ainu culture. woman tattoo their lips, yes. the patterns of the clothing are distinctive (also warm, bc they’ve always been This Far North, and tether!law is a bastardization of forgotten ainu culture pls dont look at his sleeveless top next to his wooden earrings i beg you) there are lots of things i could go into, but im jus gonna leave it vague again and say if you’re super interested, go find an article or watch golden kamuy.
there wasn’t a lot of pokemon depicted in the wilds of the battle zone, and for reason. at this point i really wanted to keep true to sakhalin, so i stuck with the fauna native there, and the pokemon native to sinnoh, and if i didn’t include any pokemon that actually appear in the battle zone in platinum? oops. my house my rules. anyway so horses, dogs, wolves, bears. rapidash, eevee, luxray line, ursaring line.. that covers it, right? oh, and fearow. okay, so i did include one pokemon from platinum’s battle zone. also wailmer, there was a wailmer.
why did you include baroque works into dragon’s group?
so. i wrote tether while the vivre cards were coming out. specifically, right before i was supposed to have started writing part 4, the alabasta pack came out, and i was so taken with goldenweek’s real name that i re-read little garden and stuck her into the story. bentham was.. k, no lie, in my mind he’s like a pseudo-rev member? i jus associate hm so heavily with ivankov, and i read a fic once where he was iva’s student and since then i’ve jus always had to include him in rev stuff so that’s why he’s here. plus i love him. good enough, right? and those two are the only ones, so it’s not entirely baroque works. i don’t rly consider bentham bw anymore, like i said, he’s kinda a pseudo-rev. and i jus rly liked marianne’s name. also her, now. tether!marianne is cool. 85% of the story’s sass.
april 9th is both caesar and marguerite’s birthday. i think in the beginning i was searching for characters that share birthdays for a plot point, and when i settled on caesar i settled on marguerite eventually for this reason just so i could make the whole ‘it’s not his bday its mine!!’ joke. and then i formed the whole story on it being late march-early april and based the weather off that.
law’s sixth pokemon. see, i told you revealing it was strategic! you all were expecting null, right? and then out pops silvally. well, it’s been so many years, so it’s natural they would’ve figured out love and trust and such and breaking the mask and evolving. still! aaaa, that felt so good to write.
there’s more of a metaphor with silvally, even more with umbreon, that i was going for. something along the lines of a captured being being granted escape, bonding with someone, coming back to get due vengeance with the old captor, showing how much more they had become. with umbreon, it was more thing-i-protected-grew-into-something-that-now-protects-me aka her helping law through his nightmares, being a generally supportive and kind pokemon like someone law knew wink wink. also literally protect, with the whole casear thing.
okay mind control time. i reread pt 4 real quick before writing the notes, and im still not completely satisfied with how shanks broke free. i tried to hard to research good mind control depictions but i was more interested in figuring out how the mind control ended rather than the state of being, and there weren’t many promising results other than the victim dying, which wasn’t helpful. i knew i didn’t want it to be the whole i-love-you-so-snap-out-of-it thing, thats so cheesy and kinda ridiculous tbh. i think luffy confronting shanks’ inner self directly and convincing him to step out is nice, but if you pay attention closer to the scenes and how they match up, you might notice something that aids this.
so, it wasn’t just luffy. i know a lot goes on in latter half of pt 4, and all the scenes are disjointed. law and umbreon and silvally defeat gengar before shanks awakes properly. it was luffy, yes, that convinced him everything was going to be okay, and to not falter. but since gengar was knocked unconscious, the control over shanks was already waning to begin with. it was more like, he was already fine, and out of the cycle, but the trauma kept him from realizing it until luffy came. does that help? so basically, it wasn’t luffy talking alone, it was defeating gengar, like luffy had thought of previously. and then it was helping shanks thorugh it, because you don’t just bounce back from that. thats why i wrote shanks Like That in the remaining scenes.
while not in the best conditions as lab 3, labs 1 and 2 were fully-operational and secure facilities, so if you were questioning why sabo and law (mortally injured, mind you -two stab wounds, ow) would just leave the people and pokemon next to a burning lab, it’s because it was secure and the fire contained. the base was inside a volcano, guys, there’s no way the rooms werent airtight to prevent an accident. imagine being That Guy that fucked something up and led to the active volcano erupting. of course they took precautions. also, sabo had been working in the base for a bit, so if he thought the people were gonna catch fire, he wouldn’t have left them.
koala having aromatisse was purely for plot purposes, for it’s hidden ability. i needed a psychic type, and if i haven’t mentioned, dragon’s group are based in kalos, so it had to be from there. it fits though, maybe, right? anywa, yea, that’s why sabo has a delphox and salamence after he fucks off for two years, because he was in kalos. (this is what i’m referring to, if you haven’t clicked on any of those links.)
Law takes Luffy’s hand and leads them backwards, until they’re out of sight again
and, finally, my favorite moment of tether, when lawlu graduates from arms to wrists to finally holding hands. /cries so proud
k but what’s with that ending?
fun fact time i always knew how i wanted to end tether. from the moment of its conception, even before i finished writing part 1 (before i started, really, back when i was gathering material) i knew it ended with dragon in front of the statue of giratina. insert obligatory sequel joke here marianne mentions, before the trio ventures into the base, that her group’s leader wouldn’t appreciate having to halt his own agenda to help them with taking out the hunters. giratina was this agenda.
originally, before i started on pt 2, i thought abt law/lu taking a different route. i wanted them to go north, up through eterna forest and to eterna city, and examine the statue of dialga. then go east from there, still taking them through coronet, but then through celestic town and seeing the cave painting of the lake guardians. i also really wanted them to go to lake valor, since it was the only lake they could conceivably go to on their way to veilstone. i thought about switching pastoria for snowpoint and encountering sabo at lake acuity. none of this worked out, but it was all supposed to reference back into dragon and giratina and sinnoh lore. instead i turned it fully into a travel fic and then a rescue op, at the end. it’s still interesting to think how the story could’ve changed, had they gone up to eterna before crossing through coronet.
in all honesty i wanted to end the story on a surprise note. almost like a goosebumps ending, where everything is resolved and then at the very end there’s a quick scene that leaves you grasping for more, leaves you questioning. (also like certain op chapters leaving you with zero answers and more questions than you started with, fuck you, oda) it wasn’t until i was almost done with part 4 that i started to kinda miss tether, even tho i wasnt done yet but my outline had been done for a bit so i kinda was? and then i remembered back in november when i created concepts for ace and sabo before i even wrote that one scene in mt coronet, and i remembered thinking so much about their story, and their travels, and sabo’s accident. and then, not long after i finished with part 4, i had a startling idea, and i had a first line of a maybe sequel, and i started to put a little more thought into it.
if you’re looking for confirmation, this isn’t it. this is saying i have an idea i’d like to explore. maybe. tether took a lot of work, and a lot of time. it definitely doesn’t have as much feedback as i would like it to, for me to invest in a full-fledged sequel. if i start this, if i ever do, it’ll definitely be more lax, and a chapter-by-chapter sort of thing. i guess it just comes down to how many people are actually interested in it.

Top 3 things I want to see in the next Pokemon game for Nintendo Switch
By Everett Borislow
The next game in the Pokemon franchise is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch for a release this year.  Here are the top 3 things I want to see in it.
3. Menacing Villains. The Pokemon games have always had villains that had motives from Team Rocket’s wanting to catch Pokemon and impress their boss, Giovanni to Team Galactic’s awakening of Palkia and Dialga. I want Nintendo to create a villain team that just doesn’t want to steal Pokemon or impress a boss. It would be interesting if the next villain team in the next Pokemon title, had a motive that was ongoing and affected the player’s morally or there were multiple teams of villains working together instead of just one.
 2. A Region-based off of Spain or Italy. The region’s in the Pokemon series took influence from places in the “real world” such as New York (“Unova”), Hawaii (“Alola”) and even the “Sinnoh” region was based on Hokkaido in Japan. It would be cool if the next region had places based off of Madrid, Barcelona or Venice. I love that Nintendo tries to make each of the regions in the Pokemon games based off of their real-world counterparts.
 1.      An Open World. It is annoying that every Pokemon game has a linear region. It would be innovative if Nintendo made the next generation of Pokemon, an open world title on par with The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim regarding having an open-world setting. It would cool if this new region let players travel to other regions in the games such as “Sinnoh” or “Alola” via specific Pokemon that can fly such as Charizard or let users catch Pokemon from those regions. There hasn’t been any Pokemon title that let users travel to multiple regions in one game. You were able to travel to “Kanto” in “Pokemon Heartgold and “Soulsilver” but only when you beat the game. If Nintendo added this gameplay element, It would bring new fans to the series and add more hype to the game.

Daily record Of A Geek Father.
I have played different video games during the last five years yet no activity has provided me a great deal enjoyment as the video game from football. Joffrey and Margaery's wedding event was one of the highlights of period 4, primarily given that customers ultimately came to check out Joffrey obtain his comeuppance. I adjudge the video game from soccer the best considering that it offers me ample workout as well as it builds all the muscles from mind. I got this for $60 brand-new at launch as well as came back the activity the following day for $4 at GameStop. Every thing is actually thus alluring that this's challenging to place guide down without desiring to order this up once more or discussing a flow of the book with others. I am reasonably brand new to your blog post - discovered this recently when I was taking a look around for some brand-new vegetarian dishes. Prior to this there was one more as well as far more full trailer released at E3 in 2015. This isn't an assurance that we won't find the game this year, but that carries out bring in a 2018 launch look more likely in comparison to certainly not. I have actually understood for some time the game was going to possess its stoppage removed early, so if it was bad, I could possibly only terminate my pre purchase. The phone's chipset creates it some of the greatest phones for games functionality, especially as mobile phone video games continue to evolve swiftly. Croft's adventures come to be turn-based challenges, embeded in a world half-way in between board game as well as beautiful isometric minimalism. A package is actually a video game theme that features pre-made resources, setups and game logic. Demanding some extreme teamwork from your peers, Always keep Speaking and also No person Explodes is actually an enjoyable game along with the best team from individuals, as well as this's a lot more delightful in Virtual Reality using either a Samsung Equipment Virtual Reality or even Oculus Break headset. The LovePlus females even delight in unique favors that real females could usually only envy. We created this for supper tonight, comprehensive along with the vegan sour lotion and also our company created some vegetarian cornbread from an additional blog site to carry the edge. This was driven home to me when one of the activities I serviced was discharged along with empty CDs in package. But now regular programs are actually created in each universities to encourage as numerous students as possible, no matter exclusive capacities, to join activities, and also certainly not merely check out suits occasionally to cheer up their preferred crews or join the award circulation functionalities by the end from a sporting activities period. Within this case the on April 25th, 2017 released The Strolling Lifeless Video game Period 3: Incident 4 Walkthrough featured a The Walking Lifeless Activity Period 3: Incident 5 lead-in that's revealed at the top of this particular page. When Tell and Scarlett are actually each kidnapped Scarlett should conform of Caraval as well as gain if you want to save her sibling. Hellblade is actually a somewhat unique video game that's tackling among life's big problems that is actually commonly certainly not well managed - mental disease. LOL, cause when Christmas happens Sony consumers are going to actually havea great deal of new games to buy, and also some actual brand-new hardware to appreciate as well. The greatest stick you can easily beat Infinite Combat along with isn't really that it's not as strong as Battlefield 1 or even Titanfall 2, it's that this is actually just miles off of even the game that is actually bundled along with it: Modern Warfare Remastered. One of the packaginged games are every Sonic name launched for the platform, along with the three initial Fatal Kombat titles. And also GBAoid (additionally named GameBoid) handles these handheld video games without damaging a sweat. Attracting elements coming from the initial video game - e.g. investing, exploring and involving in battle within a huge, procedurally-generated universe - Best: Dangerous is actually a Best game for the 21st century group. In the event you loved this short article and you would love to receive more info with regards to visit the following website page i implore you to visit the web-site. Likewise, a research at the University of Rochester found out web links between playing first-person shooting activities and also improved decision-making and reaction times. The game is actually set in the Pokémon globe's Sinnoh Area, located mainly on the Eastern island from Hokkaido, and also presents over 100 new Pokémon. There is actually the otherworldly magma industries from Dimmuborgir, where Mance Rayder puts together his camping ground in time three, the corner from the Haunted Rainforest" where Samwell Tarly as well as God Commander Mormont are tackled by white colored walkers, and also Grjótagjá, the cave that becomes Jon Snowfall and Ygritte's love nest (as well as the location that guests are actually typically most thrilled regarding finding, says Benediktsson). Noteworthy: Attended secondary school at David Thompson Additional, where he was on the golf group. Completed his jr hockey job with the Alberta Junior Hockey Game's Grande Prairie Storm (2012-2014). Member from the B.C. U17 crew. Observed the Canada Summertimes Video games for baseball. For a publication that claims to focus on an enchanting war to the death, there is actually almost no action. Yet, along with King Tommen's shock disallowing of the revered practice of trial by combat, Game of Thrones stunned us in much the same technique Ser Clegane had actually stunned that cleric along with the removable foundation. One prefers things more evident and also in your skin, the various other is quiet and likes a more book located education. Season the ribs satisfactorily along with freshly broken pepper and a few dashes of salt. The explanation for this old fashioned evaluation is since a thousand other individuals have actually already composed assessments for this manual as well as I'll wager that they possess presently pointed out whatever that I wish to say. You might possess checked out a publication from short stories on Google Works, or even enjoyed a television collection on Netflix. It is actually due to this extensive meta activity that it's achievable to accomplish a lot a greater yield on your expenditure than if you only had fun with the offline markets - the dangers, certainly, are a lot more significant. Either way, long-suffering Video game from Thrones star Package Harington is actually well aware from the supposition once more neighboring his angsty character, and also, basically, he DGAF. The Emmy award succeeding Video game from Thrones debts, with their 3D, clockwork map, have come to be thus renowned they have actually even obtained a salute off The Simpsons, that performed their very own spoof model back in 2012.

What could tomorrow’s Pokemon Direct be?
There are four possibilities: (From least to most likely)
Pokken for Switch
Diamond and Pearl remakes
A sequel to Kanto games that takes place twenty years later
Sun and Moon third version
Apparently, it is a main series game that could be announced. There are three possibilities:
Diamond and Pearl Remakes:
Pros: Generation 4 Pokemon have been getting a lot of attention recently. The first distribution for Pokemon X/Y was a Torchic, which was a Generation 3 Pokemon. Next games we got: Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire, the Hoenn Remakes. The first distribution for Pokemon Sun and Moon was Munchlax, a Generation 4 Pokemon. Type:Null is inspired by Arceus. Cynthia can be battled and recruited at the Battle Tree
Cons: The Generation 4 games are still playable on the 3DS.
A sequel to Red/Blue that takes place twenty years later
Pros: The appearance of Red and Blue at the Battle Tree, Lillie stating she is going on a trip to Kanto in order to find Bill, and becoming a trainer at the same time.  Several Pokedex entries state events that happened twenty years ago. Kurki mentions facing the Elite Four a long time ago.
Cons: None
Sun and Moon third version:
Pros: Kahili needs to have character development, and to a lesser extent, Mina. The Switch needs to have a main Pokemon game.
Cons: Gamefreak haven’t done a third version since Platinum.
What I think it would be: Either Diamond/Pearl Remakes or Kanto sequels taking place twenty years later
What I think it’s actually going to be: Kanto sequels that take place twenty years later, though Diamond/Pearl remakes can’t be ruled out.
If it’s Kanto sequels that takes place within Sun and Moon’s timeline, I think this is how the rest of Generation 7 and the start of Generation 8 will play out:
2017-2018: Kanto Revisits.
2018: Sun and Moon third version for Switch
2019: Generation 8 is announced, taking place in a colder region.
2020: Sinnoh Remakes.
If it’s Sinnoh Remakes, then the following would happen:
2017-2018: Sinnoh Remakes. A foreshadowing to Generation 8 is dropped, in the form of an Ace Trainer.
2018: Sun and Moon third Version for Switch, Kanto Revisits for 3DS. Both games can connect and trade with each other.
2019: Generation 8 is announced.
Patterns for Pokemon Regions introduced so far:
Generation 1: Kanto (Industrial, 150+ Pokemon, based on the real life Kanto Region, in east)
Generation 2: Johto (Traditional, based on the Kansai Region of Japan, in west)
Generation 3: Hoenn (Tropical, based on Kyushu and surrounding islands, in south)
Generation 4: Sinnoh (Colder, rich in folklore and mythology, based on Hokkaido, in north)
Generation 5: Unova (Industrial, based on New York, in east)
Generation 6: Kalos (Traditional, based on France, in south)
Generation 7: Alola (Tropical, based on Hawaii, in west)
Generation 8 theory.
Going by the previous pattern, the first four regions are based on regions of Japan, the three most recent regions being based on areas outside Japan. Unova and Alola are based on places in the U.S, while Kalos is based on a country in Europe. There are only a few possibilities of where Generation 8′s region can be based on:Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and the UK, all of which are countries that fulfil the “Cold Region” rule. However, the “Rich in Folklore and Mythology”, all six countries that are possibilities for being the basis fulfil the other criteria. However, seeing as the last three regions are based off places popular with tourists, the candidates for the Generation 8′s region basis can easily be narrowed. As well, but if you look at where Kyushu and Hokkaido are on the map, and run a line between them,  they are north of each other. The Kansai region is west of the real life Kanto region, while Alola is west to New York.  Interestingly, all places that formed the basis of regions so far  have been on a line to their opposites. Which country is north of France on a map? The UK. So, by my theory, it fulfils the following criteria: Colder region, rich in Mythology and Folklore, tourist spot, would fulfil the north part of the pattern. So I think Generation 8′s region will almost certainly be based on the UK. We’ll see in two years time if this theory is correct.  As well, the last three regions had backstories involving a king in one way or another. Generation 5 had N, who is referred to as a king. Generation 6 had AZ, who, 3,000 years before the events of Pokemon X/Y, was the king of Kalos. Generation 7 had Acerola, who is of royal blood. Alolan Meowth’s Pokedex entry mentions the Alolan monarchs, and Nanu has an Alolan Persian. So, if my Generation 8 theory is true, we might see a backstory of the region with another king.
