I absolutely ADORE “Mulder & Scully meet the Were Monster” and here is why:
- truly a monster of the week episode which I love
- the comedy of it (reminds me of Bad Blood)
- the existential dread Mulder is facing
- Mulder having the theme song as his ring tone
- the subversion of the were-wolf trope
- the whole “actually the way society is going sucks” and everything that Guy was saying about these “urges” that humans have
- the dedications on the tombstones to the real people we lost
- Scully mentioning Queequeg and stealing adopting another dog
- Scully mentioning she is immortal
- “The internet is not good for you” and the whole smartphone thing is just… so good and feels accurate and silly at the same time
- the trans representation (i don’t think it aged exceptionally well but it’s there and it could be so much worse)
- “that’s how i like my mulder”
- Scully so obviously enjoying herself
- “I think my phone is not working correctly because guys don’t send me pictures of their junk” (I’m paraphrasing i think but yeah, all of this)
- Scully.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Mulder and Scully meet the Were-Monster is everything I have ever wanted oh my GOD it’s so stupid. Darin Morgan episode. References to literally every other Darin Morgan episode. Rhys Darby jumpscare. Mulder doesn’t know how to use a phone. Scully is leading the investigation. The greatest lines of dialogue I’ve ever heard.

Just watched Soul Survivor for the 10080375029735th time...
How, after MONTHS of Dean being gone, did that half eaten slice of pie in his room not rot? It still looks fresh. Did the Mark(tm) save the pie too?
Also... Cas leaves Hannah IN THE CAR the entire time. For like HOURS. Come on. "There's a female in the car." Yeah... let her come in. She might have been able to help, or at least not sit in the car ALL AFTERNOON. pshhh.
Also Also... Hannah's just casually stupid in love with Castiel and... I feel ya, girl. I do. Bc Sames.
Also Also Also...

That's all. Just Do It. ;)

Chicago PD 10x3 “A Good Man”
Random thoughts:
I thought the tapping of the rings and underlying musical beat was a very interesting way to show the connection between Jay and Hailey. I felt it could symbolize multiple facets of their relationship. The steady, heartbeat-like rhythm could signal that they are of one heart. But juxtaposed with the images, to me it is more representative of the building anxiety and stress they are both experiencing. Another interpretation could be that it is symbolic of the ticking of the “bomb” that is about to shatter their lives.
As Jay and Hailey are finishing their interview at the hospital Lenny tells Jay “Let’s do it again sometime” and Jay responds “You bet” with a smile on his face. Is this the only time in the episode that Jay smiles? I’m pretty sure it is.
As soon as Lenny’s Army buddy told Jay what his job was I figured that it would tie into how Jay would exit the show.
Jay thinking that the tiny fire extinguisher was going to put out the raging fire in the car and save evidence shows just how irrational his thinking is.
Jay taking charge and kicking the door down before Hailey and Kevin are ready is very reminiscent of Voight.
The first time I watched the episode, the interrogation room scene simply reminded me of the scene between Voight and Davy in episode 1 of this season. I felt it was just another example of how much Jay has turned into Voight. However, when I watched it a second time, a line from Kim to Jay jumped out at me: “You can’t make the promise you just made in there. We can’t keep it. You know that.” Hearing this, I realized that this scene called back even further to episode 9x18 “New Guard.” In Torres’ first episode last season he and Jay were about to interrogate a suspect and Jay says, “…in there we can lie our asses off. We just can’t make a promise we can’t keep.” I thought this a subtle, yet amazing way to show how much Jay has changed. (Both episodes were written by Scott Gold.)
At the hospital, when Hailey tells Jay he is not acting like himself her comments sounded like a lot of the fan statements I’ve seen regarding his character so far this season.
I would have loved to see the scene between Hailey and Voight when she goes to tell him about the situation with Jay. Also, the staccato rhythm that open the episode is back, denoting her anxiety about what’s happening with Jay.
Jay wears a black hoodie, just like the robbers, when he breaks into Watt’s place. Even though he is lacking their white mask it made me wonder if this none smiling, operating in the gray-area Jay is supposed to be seen as a mask hiding the true, moral Jay underneath.
Loved Voight’s fake out with the driver. I would love to see him go undercover in an episode, something that’s happened very rarely in past seasons.
Jay standing in mute shock after he kills Watt was heartbreaking, as was the devastation in his voice when he said, “We’re doing it again.” Then when he asks, “What the hell am I doing?” and looks at Voight and Hailey he finally comes to the realization that he can’t be this person that operates like Voight.
I could really see the conflict inside Jay reflected in his face during that close up shot in his truck before he talks to the Chief.
The way the Chief spoke I felt like he knew some of what really happened, and yet his speech made it seem like he was trying to sweep the whole incident under the rug and make Jay feel good about saving lives. Still not sure whether to trust him or not.
It stood out to me that the writers put an actual time frame on Jay’s mission when he said, “It’s not forever. It’s eight months. Maybe a little longer.” A part of me still feels like Jay will come back at some point. Whether that’s for a scene, an episode, or longer who knows. Around eight months would be the end of the season. Whether it happens or not, I feel like the door has been left open.
I felt it was harsh of Jay to basically tell Hailey if you love me then you have to let me go. That puts her in an impossible position where she wants to stop him but knows she can’t, and either way she loses him. I’m very interested to see how this plays out with Hailey over the rest of the season. It may be odd, but I’ve always thought you get more compelling acting and story lines when a character is dealing with angst or tragedy rather than happiness.
I loved that Jay’s last scene was with Voight. I’m sure lots of fans felt it should have been with Hailey, but in the context of the show, Jay and Voight have been there since day one so this felt right to me. Then, in a round about way, Voight acknowledged how highly he thinks of Jay when he told him that he is past needing any help from Voight to land any job he wants in the CPD. But I was shocked when Jay admitted that he did want to be like Voight, but knew that morally he couldn’t. This reminded me of the first season when Jay asked Antonio if he should learn from Voight or be wary of him, and Antonio told him “Both.” The sadness and resignation on Voight’s face in the last shot reflected how I felt.
Over all, I really feel like they crafted an exit that made the most sense for Jay. Over the seasons it has usually been characters linked to the military that have led to Jay being more willing to operate in the “gray” areas of the law: see “Forty-Caliber Bread Crumb” (3x17), “Care Under Fire” (5x7), and “The One Next to Me” (9x3). The show and the unit won’t be the same without him, but at the same time I’m excited to see what the future has in store for everyone else in Intelligence.

Crowstielnatural
Background: This is the preferred order of watching spn where only Castiel and Crowley interactions matter. Enemies to frenemies to friends.
see link for the original idea by @crowley-the-1-true-king-of-hell. "Since this is only about THEIR interactions, everybody else is furniture and don't have to make sense" and you can fill in the blanks about what could have happened in between episodes.
Previous Episode (The Great Escapist) Next Episode
Episode 3 Soul Survivor
(Transitioning from enemy to frenemies; Crowley saves enemy Cas for ulterior motives)
