One song that really shows that [mystery] is on the second album, a song called “Space Dementia.” I always wanted to make a heavy rock song that could just have a piano without a guitar. I think we got there again on “Butterflies and Hurricanes” on the new album [Absolution]. I was trying to find a classical type of piano style that would be heavy and work with bass and drums. It had that sort of mechanical paradiddle thing all the way through, and then it breaks down into this kind of romantic, flowing weird bit in the middle.

JIMMY POPS - minyalbum (2005)

personal rating: ☆8.8/10☆

minyalbum by JIMMY POPS was the band's first and only full length album, and it’s super awesome! it's full of super bright and energetic rock instrumentals that are complemented really nicely by the different vocalist's voices. some of the songs have a slight retro feeling, mainly 'keep kids alright', which has instrumentals that fit very well with the band's style while also calling back to jangle-y(?) 20th century pop. the whole album feels like sunshine! there are some slower songs (like ‘a little ram’), which balance out the very fast paced nature of the album very well and give you some time to take a light break from the non-stop energy. some of the tracks i enjoy the most are 'rock'n'roll - alternative' (my favorite track on the album), 'love is you', and 'elephant stone'. i feel like this album is super underrated, and i think more people need to listen to it because it's really great! definitely an album that needs more love.

would i recommend it?: absolutely!
