2017 Jaguar F-Pace
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Review
Magnificence and common sense are so frequently fundamentally unrelated. Be that as it may, every once in a while, something happens that figures out how to be both fun and touchy, ready to draw on the strings of the heart while fulfilling the piece of his cerebrum where all the solid counsel of his mom dwell. 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is an amusing to-drive SUV that additionally happens to be a standout amongst the most far reaching, powerful and focused costs in the conservative extravagance section.
The principle target of Jaguar when it halted creation of its first SUV was sufficient. Mission finished, be that as it may, have been included with a slight partition of the length of the wheelbase to the ground being decreased in the eyes, the subsequent vehicle was ended with more back legs, and load space uneasiness utilize the Unpaved land, the greater part of its rivals.
An optional goal was to drive with an indistinguishable eagerness from Jaguar vehicles and games autos. Utilizing an indistinguishable mechanical bone from XE and XF sports vehicle and a sort of F-motivation, 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is without a doubt a standout amongst the most alluring SUV driving class.
An inflexible guiding, an exceptionally unbending structure, perfectly created and completely wheel-mounted back suspension framework are gainful. The excursion might be somewhat relentless for a few, be that as it may.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace Configurations
2017 Jaguar F-Pace 20d
The support of these dynamic abilities is a couple of appealing motors. A supercharged V6 motor produces 340 drive (or 380 in the S show) at a cost where the greater part of the contenders has turbocharged four-chamber and 100-pull less. The increasing speed is as anyone might expect better than most, and is created alongside a high evaluating of the motivated F debilitate framework.
For the individuals who need to keep their fuel charges low, the 20d model has a productive turbo diesel motor, which joined the BMW X3 as the main other SUV in the fragment to offer such a motor (the Audi Q5 TDI is suspended the emanations because of VW embarrassment).
Inside, the lodge is elegantly finished, pleasantly brightened with quality materials and outfitted with happy with seating. New Jaguar is another Touch Pro InTouch mark interface with noteworthy responsiveness, huge virtual catches and adaptable menus.
Additionally, studies are expected to play out a full decision on contending frameworks (the same for less, the standard interface of the InControl touchscreen) however our underlying examinations were at any rate positive.
What’s more, indeed, this is the thing that we for the most part feel about the Jaguar F-Pace, 2017. Albeit different encounters are positively fundamental, we are certain of the exactness of our underlying response: This is one of class pioneers.
The F-Pace contributes adequately to the sort of element driving background offered by the Porsche Macan, the polish of the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and the adjusted character of the BMW X3. Also, despite the fact that it may not coordinate the Acura RDX esteem, it has a tendency to be less expensive than the value like different opponents said above. Things being what they are magnificence and reasonableness can exist together.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace MSRP
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Price
2017 Jaguar F-Pace White
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Execution and MPG
Each 2017 Jaguar F-Pace comes standard with four-wheel drive, eight-speed programmed gearbox, paddle move levers, slant begin help and a programmed begin and stop framework. There are two motor alternatives.
The 35t all-wheel drive models have a 3.0-liter V6 turbo that produces 340 strength and 332 pound-feet of torque in all forms with the exception of the S and the main release where it produces 380 pull. The couple has not changed.
Panther trusts that the base part will bring about a period of 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds or 5.1 seconds with the S. Both are among the speediest in the fragment. The efficiency is assessed by the EPA to be 20 mpg consolidated (18 city/23 roadway). This is much lower than contenders with a turbocharged four-chamber less intense. This is about the same as the Macan S.
The AWD 20D models have a 2.0-liter 4-chamber turbodiesel in-line that produces 180 pull and 318 pound-feet of torque. It is ordinary for a motor of this sort. Puma trusts it will increment from zero to 60 miles/h in 8.2 seconds, which is ease back however like the BMW X3 diesel. No appraisals EPA was accessible at the season of composing these lines, yet Jaguar trusts it will be in the upper scope of 20 mpg consolidated.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Security
Each 2017 F-Pace comes standard with automated stopping devices, dependability and footing control, front side airbags and long side window ornament airbags. Camera sensors and stopping mirrors are discretionary on the construct model and standard in light of all others.
The programmed crisis stopping mechanism and the consummation of the bolster course are standard on the Sport R and S dazzle sports framework and back pass cautioning is additionally standard in this specific situation and discretionary reward and extravagance.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace To the Inside
The F-Pace lodge may not be as snappy as the outside, but rather all things considered it is classy and developed with materials of sufficient quality. The atmosphere controls are fantastic and the new Touch Pro InControl framework (discretionary) incorporates vast virtual catches, speedy answers and clear design. We require additional time than was conceivable amid our first collection, in any case, and we have not met the InControl based touch framework.
In advance, the F-Pace figures out how to mix lift while sitting tight for a SUV, with more than one auto subtype situate. The seats themselves offer more than sufficient condition and notwithstanding coming about space for the taller drivers.
The back seat, then, offers more legroom than most contenders, albeit a standout amongst the most critical motors in the front. Head tallness is not precisely ample, but rather the head is not brushing the roof (even with the sunroof).
The freight space is magnificent for the portion, which measures 33.5 cubic feet with seats up (best in class) and a limit of 63.5 cubic feet (just outperformed by Volvo XC60). This is chiefly the consequence of its profundity more than expected.
Also, for the individuals who will utilize the load region or the rooftop to convey a surfboard, kayak or open air enterprise articles, you may be keen on the discretionary action scratch F-Pace: Jaguar script opens the auto, abandoning you the key in the bolted auto.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace In the Driver’s Seat
The F-Pace 2017 looks more like a SUV sports vehicle in the driver’s seat – notwithstanding for moderately focused games models. Its corners are level and unremarkable impressionism projections are gotten with an unbending structure and a completely coordinated suspension.
The four wheel drive framework sends the majority of the power in the back in many conditions, making a favorable usefulness and sentiment a back wheel drive vehicle. And after that there are the uncommon direction: light and steady in their endeavors, was brought up in input and solid in their reactions.
In the engine, the supercharged V6 offers a 35t help, whatever the driving circumstance, with a somewhat boisterous motor note that can absolutely move toward an unmanned light plane exhausted amid typical driving. Diesel 20d ought to feel sufficiently solid to the city or when you have to build the ability to cross the street yet you will see the absence of force on a slope.
With two motors, four-wheel drive framework that standard taking care of, it has additionally demonstrated its incentive in the crate, sending energy to the wheels they require. Alongside this liberal land and go romping innovation obtained from the cousin of Land Rover, the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace can handle the precarious, dangerous, tractor-filled and rough trails as opposed to its character.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace – Is an Amusing to drive SUV that additionally happens to be a standout amongst the most far reaching powerful and focused Costs 2017 Jaguar F-Pace Review Magnificence and common sense are so frequently fundamentally unrelated. 2020 Jaguar F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag First Drive
There’s a curious alchemy at work in the design and development of any new automobile, an unpredictable fusion of people, politics, and process. The 2020 Jaguar F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag is a case in point.
The F-Pace is built on the same all-aluminum D7a platform architecture as the Jaguar XE and XF sedans and wagons. Jaguar Land Rover’s D7a architecture also underpins the Range Rover Velar. Now, the F-Pace and the Velar are both SUVs and both about the same size, each rolling on a 113.1-inch wheelbase. They also share powertrains, transmissions, and a host of other JLR components. But they look and feel completely different. Why? Money, that’s why.
The Jaguar F-Pace is the Range Rover Velar’s poor relation. Literally. Off the record, JLR insiders freely admit the automaker spent less on the F-Pace during its development program. Not in terms of the fundamentals, but the details. And it shows.
The Jaguar’s interior, for example, doesn’t have the same luxurious ambiance as the Range Rover’s, especially in terms of switchgear, soft-touch surfaces, and the jewelry of the brightwork. And no F-Pace gets the plush air suspension that’s offered as an option on six-cylinder Velars. As a result, depending on trim level, the F-Pace can look cheaper and feel coarser than its Range Rover cousin.
A Jaguar interior always used to be an experience, the epitome of the British wood and leather and splashes of chrome aesthetic that became a visual shorthand for luxury used by everyone from GM to Nissan to ZIL. But the F-Pace’s cabin borders on the austere, especially in the entry-level models, with way too much hard, black plastic in evidence. We loved pretty much everything else about the F-Pace when it arrived in the U.S. in 2016, so it’s fair to say the interior cost Jaguar’s first ever SUV our 2017 SUV of the Year award.
Blame the bean counters. The reason the F-Pace didn’t get the fiscal love the Velar did was that Range Rover was selling a lot of vehicles and making a ton of money while Jaguar, late to the SUV party, was struggling, in terms of both sales and profitability. With the dismal logic that gladdens only an accountant’s heart, it was determined that Jaguar couldn’t charge Range Rover prices and expect Range Rover sales numbers, and so costs would have to be cut.
How much does the Jaguar F-Pace 25t cost?
Prowl through the Jaguar and Land Rover configurators, and you can see how the money men juggled the numbers. An entry-level F-Pace 25t stickers for $46,225. An entry-level Velar S, which has the same 247-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the same eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive driveline, as well as coil-spring suspension like the Jag and much the same level of standard equipment—sliding panorama roof, Meridian audio system—is $57,325.
OK, the Jag might only get 18-inch wheels versus the 19s that are standard on the Velar S, and 10-way front seats trimmed in something called Luxtec instead of the 14-way leather-trimmed items with memory function fitted to the Rangie. But there’s no difference in straight-line performance between the two, and the Jaguar’s slightly sharper suspension and steering tune mean it’s more fun to drive. At the entry level, if you can live with the interior, the $11,000 cheaper F-Pace is a value buy.
But the math falls apart if you want an F-Pace with some toys. The F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag, a limited edition feature package based on the $57,525 F-Pace R-Sport 25t, costs $59,425. Compared with the entry-level F-Pace, that extra $13,200 basically buys you gloss black-painted 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, leather-trimmed 18-way power sports seats with lumbar and memory, and a heated steering wheel at the end of an electrically adjustable steering column. You also get sportier front and rear bumpers, keyless entry, adaptive speed limiting via traffic sign recognition technology, plus the digital instrument panel and JLR’s top-end infotainment interface.
But here’s the thing: A similarly equipped Velar—an R-Dynamic S with the four-cylinder engine and optional 20-inch wheels—costs just $1,400 more. And our 25t Checkered Flag tester actually stickered at $63,150, thanks to the addition of 22-inch wheels ($2,550) and the 360-degree camera system ($900) and the dark headliner ($275). A Velar R-Dynamic S with 22s and the camera costs just $795 more. At these prices the F-Pace really does start to feel like the poor relation.
It’s not just the interior, which, even with leather on the seats and other upper surfaces, is still somewhat austere, especially in black, and still too obviously plasticky. On 22-inch wheels and 265/40 Pirelli P Zero tires the F-Pace simply doesn’t feel as composed as a comparably equipped Velar. The ride is always busy, even in the regular drive mode, with lots of brisk vertical inputs that become sharper when you switch to Dynamic mode. This F-Pace never feels entirely relaxed, and a Jag should always feel a little relaxed, even when driven with purpose.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powering the F-Pace 25t makes its 247 hp at 5,500 rpm and 269 lb-ft of torque from 1,200 rpm to 4,500 rpm. It’s not quite as refined as the VW Group’s four-banger in the entry-level Porsche Macan, which makes 248 hp from 5,000 rpm to 6,800 rpm and 275 lb-ft from 1,600 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic transmission also doesn’t shuffle through the ratios as rapidly as the Porsche’s seven-speed PDK, which may explain why this powertrain slightly underwhelmed us in the Velar.
The four-cylinder Velar R-Dynamic SE we tested in 2018 ran 0–60 mph in 7.7 seconds, a full second off its claimed number and 1.4 seconds slower than the claimed time for  the four-cylinder Macan. Jaguar claims a 0–60 time of 6.6 seconds for the F-Pace 25t, but our last 30t (making 296 hp and 295 lb-ft from the same engine) needed 6.7 seconds, so until we get a 25t to the track, call us skeptical.
On real-world roads, however, the four-cylinder F-Pace feels more responsive than the numbers might suggest. Left to its own devices, the eight-speed transmission makes good use of the little engine’s decent low-end and midrange torque, and when you want to have some fun, switching to Dynamic mode and using the paddle shifters manually adds an extra layer of liveliness, especially once the tach needle swings past 4,000 rpm.
The steering is terrific, clear, and concise, and although the ride suffers on the 22-inch rims, the tightly controlled suspension, combined with good chassis balance, means the big, tall Jag is among the most comfortably agile SUVs in the business. The bean counters may have whiffed the details, but there’s nothing wrong with the F-Pace’s fundamentals.
Carefully spec’d, the Jaguar F-Pace 25t makes a decent entry premium SUV. Our choice would be the Prestige 25t, which starts at $53,225—$3,000 less than the V-6-powered Prestige 35t and $4,100 less than the cheapest Velar you can buy. It offers a good selection of premium hardware, including leather trim, 10-way adjustable front seats with memory, a heated steering wheel, and the top-end infotainment interface. Oh, and good-looking 19-inch wheels. Which means this F-Pace rides more like a Jaguar should. And doesn’t look and feel so much like the Range Rover’s poor relation.
2020 Jaguar F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag PRICE $59,425 LAYOUT Front-engine, AWD 5-pass, 4-door SUV ENGINE 2.0L/247-hp/269-lb-ft/ turbocharged DOHC 16-valve I-4 TRANSMISSION 8-Speed automatic CURB WEIGHT 3,900 lb (mfr) WHEELBASE 113.1 in L x W x H 186.3 x 76.2 x 65.6 in 0-60 MPH 7.3 sec (MT est) EPA FUEL ECON, CITY/HWY/COMB 22/27/24 mpg ENERGY CONSUMPTION, CITY/HWY 153/125/140 kW-hrs/100 miles CO2 EMISSIONS, COMB 0.81 lb/mile ON SALE Currently

A short observe the Land Rover Range Rover Velar 2019
If you perception that the Range Rover Evoque emerge as a bit too small, and the Range Rover Sport wasn’t fashionable sufficient, don’t worry, because of the reality Land Rover too figured this out. Most professional Car Rental Dubai companies offer their car rental services to both locals and foreign tourists. So, to cope with this trouble, the British carmaker without a doubt, looks like, mixed the Evoque’s styling with the proportions of the larger Sport – and the result? Well, it’s known as the Range Rover Velar, and it’s the marquee’s fourth version inside the Range Rover family. It’s primarily based mostly on a platform that it shares with the Jaguar F-Pace, and made its debut in 2017. This isn’t only a beautiful idea vehicle, however an SUV that’s designed to perform extraordinarily on the road and of direction, off the beaten direction as well.
The Range Rover Velar is a high priced crossover SUV, however thanks to its clever terrain-response tool and inherent Land Rover DNA, it may bypass wherein most luxurious crossovers can’t. Events: A Day On the Track - Clean Fleet Report
A Japanese phrase for "three diamonds" was founded in the early 1870s by Yataro Iwasaki, a descendant of the Samurai. That distinctive second-technology Megane made means for a more conservative model in 2009, and in whole the primary three generations of the automotive have discovered 540,000 UK patrons. These looking for extra energetic performance ought to know that the V8-powered fashions are considerably more satisfying to drive. If you are fascinated by shopping for a used S40 of this vintage, we'd suggest going with one from '03 or later, as these models benefited from the abovementioned mild power bump and standard CD player. No phrase has yet been issued with regard to how a lot energy that turbo-four may generate, but primarily based on different turbo-4s available in the market we鈥檇 count on it to run in the low- to mid-200-horsepower range. For now, you may still run for as a lot as 14 miles in metropolis driving on battery alone when the plug-in鈥檚 9 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack is absolutely charged.
The 1st technology XC90 had a manufacturing run of 12 years. 5 Volvo XC90 Transmission Failure Widespread - 239 experiences. The 2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country is a premium five-passenger wagon primarily based on the V90 wagon, which, in turn, is derived from the S90 sedan. In the overall class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class triumphed over the Volvo V90 and Jaguar F-Pace which finished in joint second place, with the Hyundai Ioniq and Ford Focus RS in joint third. Somewhat little bit of research, however, confirmed that comparable models from Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz were priced even higher. But a publisher gets little or no credit score for the utility infrastructure; the utilities must work, however they won't essentially motivate your customer to come back back on their own. Some fashions may additionally come with front parking sensors, adaptive headlights that comply with a curve in the highway, blind spot monitoring, and a rearview digicam. That is employed each by a new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation to guard towards head-on collisions, and the Blind Spot Indication System to reduce the danger of lane-changing collisions.
It not too long ago added a plug-in hybrid version of the CT6, although primarily for the Chinese language market. Specific hybrid pages inside Uconnect display monitor vitality usage and alter the charging schedule, amongst other things. Honda, which as soon as lagged behind in the stereo area, has currently been coming to market with factory sound methods that rival its higher-sounding Toyota and Nissan cousins. Trying to compete in a market that has long been held by Iveco's locally-produced ACCO, the FE has a troublesome job ahead of it. The cool two-tone seats had been offering good support for my back and hips, and the HVAC was doing a superb job holding me cool while retaining the home windows from fogging up. It will likely be mated to a 6-pace automated and is expected to launch from 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds, while delivering 23 mpg Metropolis and 30 Freeway. When The Automotive Knowledgeable examined the S90 on its launch in 2016, we described it as an example of Volvo鈥檚 most concerted effort yet at breaking into the premium club, and instructed that the Germans should be worried. This affords some extra peace of mind, though Volvo鈥檚 CPO coverage isn鈥檛 fairly as strong as CPO applications from Subaru, Volkswagen, or Toyota.
However it isn鈥檛 totally alone. The 2017 Volvo XC90 is 16.2 ft lengthy. Because of its imbalance, Caddy sales tumbled 1.6% for the primary half of 2017 within the U.S. When BMW first came out with its distinctive ringed headlights, or angel eyes as some referred to them, they have been a singular styling component. I dominated out the wipers by observing no change within the noise after operating them again and forth a number of times. Respecting the hushed conversations anticipated in this luxury setting, cabin noise is actually a lower 72 decibels by means of full-bore acceleration and sixty six decibels through 70-mph cruising. Overzealous use of the throttle will lower mileage, however, as we managed simply 15 mpg over a week. The up to date 2018 gmc yukon will still be featured in sle, slt, and denali fashions and there are a number of adjustments waiting for us from the mannequin. 2018 nissan navara np300 release date & value.
The 2018 Buick Regal Tourx鈥檚 suspension is typical of a Euro-based car, MacPherson struts up entrance with a five-link rear set-up within the rear. However the XC60 can be a stylish and functional vehicle, and it handles unusually properly for a crossover, not to mention one with a Volvo badge on the front. In order for you to stick throughout the Volvo family however aren't certain about the S90, you would possibly consider the Volvo XC90, which is a luxurious midsize SUV. 1,080 Leisure Package deal) is nothing short of fabulous for an SUV. My plan was to haul dwelling the Oldham family Christmas tree on the roof of our long-time period 1987 Buick Grand Nationwide. A as soon as-great marque lowered to a sentence of underpinning Sergio鈥檚 incomprehensibly aggressive plan to dominate the automotive world. Regional publications are gaining more polish and steadiness on content material. This seems to have an effect on throttle response more than chassis setting. My black on black S40 turns heads and evokes constructive reactions from household, mates, and co-workers. That makes two days in a row that I didn't use any gasoline, and I'm showing no signs of withdrawal.

Exklusive Lackierung in Satin Byron Blue
Satter V8-Sound dank aktiver Abgasanlage

CarGurus Investigates the Rise of the Wagon
Who remembers the “wood”-paneled station wagons of our childhoods? We can’t help but wonder whether they’re making a comeback despite the declining popularity of sedans.
If you scan the headlines, SUVs and crossovers are taking over and the sedan is dead. But CarGurus data shows the story is more complicated than that: Younger shoppers still want new and used sedans, because they offer more value and are still great options. But most American automakers have nixed sedans, with the exception of performance vehicles. European automakers continue to make sedans, such as the 2020 Volkswagen Passat, which offer more premium features and design elements, such as heated front and rear seats and dual-zone climate control. But what of the wagon? Let’s take a closer look at some recent debuts.
The wagon comeback
In the past two years, we’ve seen the introduction of several new wagons. Volvo, which already had the V60, debuted the new V90 in 2017 (a previous version was offered in the US in 1998), which we reviewed the 2018. Shoppers can now get an off-road friendly version of the V90, called the V90 Cross Country, which offers more ground clearance, black cladding around the wheels, and, of course, all-wheel drive (AWD). Jaguar, known for its luxury sedans like the XJ Series, broke tradition and introduced the XF Sportbrake in 2018. Its starting price is in line with the rest of the luxury brand’s vehicles, and it offers 20-inch wheels, soft-close doors, heated seats, and more cubic feet of cargo space than the F-Pace.
Buick is the other automaker that introduced a wagon in 2018 with its Regal TourX. Our reviewer notes the Regal TourX can work as a premium alternative to brands like Subaru, with its much-beloved Outback. The TourX has premium touches, like dual-zone climate control, while also featuring more rugged details like plastic cladding around each wheel well and a roof rack along with AWD.
We looked at the number of searches for each of these three wagons in the second half of 2018 and compared that to the first six months of the year. While two of those new wagons saw an increase in searches, we were surprised to see that the Buick Regal TourX had the bigger boost, with a staggering 69% increase. The V90 saw a 30% increase in the number of searches. Only the XF Sportbrake saw a decrease, of 4%, in the second half of 2018 compared to the prior six months.
The future of the wagon
Based on searches on CarGurus, the wagon is indeed making a comeback. Bloomberg suggested the increased interest in wagons is a result of shoppers now having more wagon choices. It also may be due to the smaller number of options for sedan shoppers. Wagons, thanks to their lower center of gravity, feature less body roll and better handling than their crossover and SUV counterparts while not losing any of the capabilities or close-to-the-road driving experience a sedan would offer.

So I rented an F-Pace and now I understand why nobody is buying them. via /r/cars
So I rented an F-Pace and now I understand why nobody is buying them.
Context:
I flew into LAS and rented a 2019 Jaguar F-Pace 2.5T AWD (ie - the base model). I spent roughly 4 days and 800 miles with it, mostly highway, some mountain passes in northern Arizona. The car had ~3500 miles on it when I picked it up. My point of reference (previous rental under similar conditions) is a (last gen) XC60.
Things I liked:
It is a great highway cruiser -- after a 5 hour stint I felt fresh as a cucumber and not at all beat up.
Lane keep assist -- easy to use, clear status indicator, gentle nudge back into the lane if you start drifting.
The infortainment wasn't bad, nice and clear to use but * (see later).
Even in base trim it didn't look like a base car - everything seemed well finished, no button blanks to be seen, and even had nice touches like a lit up door sill.
It looks really good. Much richer than what it actually costs (~$45k)
Things I didn't like:
Infotainment (con't) -- Android Auto kept crashing if I tried using non-Google apps (Waze instead of Google Maps, Audible or Pocket Casts instead of Google Music, etc). A quick Google suggests its rare but happens. All I know is the family 2017 Golf lets me use whatever the hell app I damn please and it doesn't crash. Also in AA mode the image doesn't fill the whole widescreen and you get thick black bars on the sides, waste of space -- but AA is janky so could be Google's limitation, not Jag's.
Cup holders -- there are 2, and they are small. I wasn't even trying to hold a Big Gulp. You know those Camelbak 750ml sport bottles with the nipple you suckle, yeah,- that didn't fit. Neither did a standard soda bottle from the gas station. I don't need 20 cup holders, but for a long distance family cruiser I'd expect a couple more, and have them be useful.
Turbo Lag -- Makes the Golf look like a spring chicken. Was sitting at a stop sign where the cross traffic didn't have a stop. There was a car coming but far enough away I figured I got this. Pedal to the floor -- nothing, nothing, nothing, lift off! You have to anticipate hard acceleration like 3 seconds in advance to make it work.
Lack of heated seats - I know it's the base model but it's also a "suv" with aspirations of going to the mountains (where it's cold) and doing things. If my $20k Golf has heated seats - why can't this $45k thing.
Overall - I am super glad I rented it and spent some time with it. It was a nice experience. But what I learned is that I am ever in a position to rent (or god forbid buy) one I will pass. Overall I found the Volvo much more livable. And I guess from my comments above about how my Golf this and that -- maybe the Tiguan (or Audi Q3/Q5?) may also be up my alley if the opportunity presents itself.
As far as direction for comments --- Feel free to give me shit about hating on the F-Pace, talk about some of your recent rental surprises (good or bad).

2017 Jaguar F-Pace Long-Term Verdict
We fell in love with the sporty style and sharp handling of Jaguar’s F-Pace at our 2017 SUV of the Year competition, but a starchy ride and polarizing interior torpedoed it from the top spot. Still, we had to know what a yearlong jag with this all-new Jag would be like. Could we deal with the stiff suspenders? And what of the whispers of questionable reliability? Thirteen months of “loanership” later, we have plenty of miles and, oddly, some feelz (as the kids say).
As I live only 3 miles from work and travel regularly, I cannot take credit for all 22,431 miles we racked up. It took an army of commuting colleagues and long-distance haulers to spin the odometer, from social media editor Carol Ngo, to photographers Jade Nelson and Robin Trajano, to online pros Colin Woodard and Erika Pizano.
Everyone raved at the F-Pace’s curb appeal. “Beautiful design and everyday usability,” Instagrammer-in-chief Ngo noted.
I too liked how it looked from the beginning all the way to the day we handed the keys back. This is pretty rare, as I normally go blind to my long-termer after a two- to three-month honeymoon. But even to my jaundiced eyes, the F-Pace looks as fresh as ever. Taut, muscular, well-proportioned, and perfectly sized for my ’hood and lifestyle.
As Carol notes, the flexibility of this two-row, midsize SUV is compelling. Surfing is my regular thing, and fitting 6-foot boards in bags with either the 60- or the 40-side seat folded down was never an issue. The optional heavy-duty rubber mats in the cargo area and footwells were also a godsend for containing sand and moisture.
Our F-Pace even does a pretty good job as an impromptu shelter, associate online editor Woodard noted: “When we forgot our tent on a camping trip with features editor Scott Evans and his wife, my wife and I spent the weekend sleeping in the F-Pace. It wasn’t the Four Seasons, but we actually slept pretty well. We even had a good view of the stars thanks to the panoramic moonroof.”
For me, the drive was like a broken-in pair of jeans by the end of our loan, but only in “light load” mode, with 9 pounds of air pressure removed from each tire. At factory specs, the F-Pace’s ride crashes over the line of acceptably stiff. If you’re going to live with this vehicle in an area with especially bad pavement (hello, Detroit), consider avoiding it entirely—or swapping to a tire and wheel combination that gives you more bump-soaking sidewall.
The 340-horsepower V-6 took a second to spin up, but once underway it was always ready to punch holes in traffic, with a satisfyingly hollow growl. I spent the first 5,000 miles driving around in Normal mode and most of the rest of the time in ECO, which limbers up throttle response and aims for the most efficient gearing. Mother Earth–loving chill-out modes like this usually come at the expense of immediacy, but Jaguar’s ECO mode is one of the best. It didn’t turn the F-Pace into a penalty box in exchange for fair fuel economy. The 35t powertrain struck quite a nice balance, so it’s a shame the engine is an orphan, launched in year one as a stopgap ahead of the turbo four-cylinder gas and diesel options (a 380-hp version of the engine remains available, however).
All 2016 and newer Jaguar vehicles come with “EliteCare,” which is a limited warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles, complimentary scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, and updates to the infotainment system (which are regular). Jaguar claims EliteCare is best in class, and a quick check of the competition reveals that to be true, sorta. Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz offer fewer years and/or miles on their warranties. The only one that matches Jaguar (and betters, with an additional 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty) is Genesis—but it does not currently have a CUV that rivals F-Pace.
The only mechanical issue we had with our vehicle was the combined ignition and auto stop/start gremlin, which was covered for free under EliteCare. While in for that service, we requested a four-wheel alignment that cost $99.00.
At the very tail end of our loan, our F-Pace did start to creak a bit coming in and out of driveways and over speedbumps, similar to the way our long-term BMW M3 did. I didn’t get a chance to have the dealer check out the problem to see if it was pieces and parts of the interior rubbing or the dust-in-the-door-seals issue we discovered in our BMW. That will unfortunately remain a question, but for the record, our F-Pace never left us stranded or completely failed to start, and none of the major systems threw error codes or warning lights. For at least one of the aforementioned road warriors, this wasn’t enough.
“I’m torn on the F-Pace,” Woodard said. “It sounded great, the V-6 made plenty of power, and it ended up being surprisingly fun to drive. It was also a practical daily driver, offering plenty of room for four adults, a week’s worth of groceries, and with the rear seats down, two bicycles. On the other hand, it had way too many electrical issues for a new car. From the infotainment system regularly glitching to the rearview camera occasionally not coming on when I put the car in reverse and all the surprise shutdowns, there was just too much that kept going wrong. Jaguar has some work to do before I’d feel comfortable recommending the F-Pace to a friend or family member.”
I can recommend an F-Pace, new or off-lease, provided interested parties are fully informed of the issues we had. Part of this is because of a new wrinkle to my loanership experience this time around: I discovered the extremely helpful world of online forums. After publication of our F-Pace intro, Greg Craig, an owner of the more powerful F-Pace S, reached out with the helpful suggestion to reduce my tire pressures and to consult the community at fpaceforum.com if I ever needed assistance. And so I did, about random topics including the stop/start issue, updates to the ICTP system, and creaks at 22,000 miles. The ability to compare notes and seek advice from a community was helpful and reassuring.
As my time with the orphan F-Pace 35t drew to a close, I found myself oddly sad about its departure. I’m normally an “on-to-the-next” kinda guy, but this Jaguar had character rare in modern cars, beauty and athleticism I never tired of, and flaws that weren’t deal breakers.

First Drive: 2018 Lincoln Navigator Reserve
LAGUNA BEACH, California — The appropriateness of the drive route Lincoln mapped out for our first taste of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator didn’t occur to me until well after I’d already handed back the key fob to the Ruby Red, full-size luxury SUV.
And then it hit me. The journey inland from the upscale coastal enclave to the Temecula wine country and back I’d just completed is one that Lincoln no doubt envisions potential Navigator buyers making with some frequency. The Laguna Beach crowd is exactly the type of customer the all-new, 2018 Navigator needs to attract if it’s going to succeed beyond being a go to for livery companies.
The changes to the brawny Lincoln SUV are immediately evident from behind the wheel. It acquitted itself well over the various forms of tarmac we encountered during our day’s drive, handling bumps and imperfections in a manner resembling that of a Great Dane’s reaction to a yapping Terrier — acknowledgement, then utter disregard. This nearly 6,000 pound SUV is not easily unsettled. And although it features an independent rear suspension, the Navigator still feels trucky in its on-road demeanor, an appealing characteristic to some that helps differentiate it from German alternatives such as the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
On the twists and turns of Ortega Highway, the only direct route to Temecula from Orange County over the Santa Ana Mountains, the 17.5-foot-long Lincoln shifted its weight left and right predictably. It’s no Jaguar F-Pace, but it’ll get you up to the ski resort without inducing any undue panic or stress, especially if you tighten things up by engaging “Excite” mode. After playing with the system’s other modes, I ended up leaving it in Excite during the bulk of my drive thanks to the sharper steering feel and throttle response the setting provides.
Motivation when the throttle is pinned comes courtesy of a version of Ford’s proven 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6, which sends 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque through a new ten-speed automatic transmission. The package hustles the big SUV along well enough when prodded and the engine emits a subdued but appropriate growl as it does. Lincoln didn’t divulge a 0-60 mph test time, but given that the outgoing Navigator needed 6.5 seconds with 380 hp on tap, 6.0 seconds flat seems a reasonable estimate. When it comes time to halt the proceedings, it’s best not to pump the brakes too hard. They’ll stop you quickly enough alright, but nobody on board will enjoy the nosedive that results.
Its on-road behavior is solid enough, but Lincoln did its best work in the 2018 Navigator’s cabin. Not only is it pleasant on the eyes, it’s pleasant to occupy as well, starting with the near complete absence of noise and vibration being passed into the well-insulated cabin. The front seats are quite comfortable and can be adjusted to meet the ergonomic desires of almost anyone. Highlights include the individually adjustable thigh extenders and the easily accessible massage function (part of the $1,250 Perfect Position package), which can be turned on with the push of a button next to the other door-mounted seat adjustment controls. Some will rightly accuse Lincoln of stealing Mercedes’ idea; I’m glad it did, as the number of adjustments available would force occupants to blindly fiddle with far too many buttons.
Key to the interior’s stylish elegance is the smart use of chrome throughout, which contrasts well with the piano black accents and any choice of trim (Im partial to the white teak found in the Black Label Yacht Club package). The stylish, old-school-looking dash neatly encases a vintage-looking rectangular gauge cluster — all digital, of course — and drives home the mid-century inspiration. The infotainment screen, which runs the Lincoln-ized version of Ford’s Sync 3, breaks up the flow unfortunately, but to be fair, there really isn’t a good way to way to incorporate something as modern as a touchscreen into a design that evokes car interiors of 60 years ago. It’s a shame the screen can’t be folded or retracted when not in use.
It is worth noting, however, that at least in the Reserve trim (and presumably, the Premiere and Select levels below), there are a few places where materials quality isn’t what it should be, such as on the upper door panel. Spring for the Black Label model though and the Venetian leather Lincoln uses for its range-topping trim feels better to the touch and is found in more places. You’ll also appreciate the Black Label’s standard 20-speaker Revel Ultima Audio system, Technology Package (adaptive cruise control, active park assist, auto high beams, head-up display, collision assist, and lane keep assist), and 22-inch wheels, which are optional on the lower level models.
While the 2018 Navigator’s interior is nearly perfect, its exterior lacks the imposing presence you’d expect this shy giant to have. From the side, it bares far too much resemblance to the humble Ford Explorer, as if the sheetmetal of the smaller crossover was simply scaled up, then given a slight polish, fender accents, and retractable running boards. The Navigator Concept Lincoln rolled out in 2016 featured a slightly sloping roof and more elongated and premium-looking shape reminiscent of one of today’s luxury SUV gold standards—the Range Rover. It’s unfortunate those elements didn’t make the cut, but the flat roof of the production model does allow for ample headroom in the third row, with the stated 37.3 inches being enough to comfortably fit even my 6 foot, 4 inch self. The 42.3-inches of legroom third-row occupants are offered doesn’t suck, either.
That lack of visual slope negatively impacts matters back at the back of the Navigator, as well. While an improvement over the outgoing model thanks to the black D-pillars and inverted horizontal light bar, the 2018 Navigator’s rear still looks quite slabby, thanks in part to its nearly 1:1 width:height proportions.
And then there’s the front. An SUV-size version of the grille that’s not doing anything special for the Continental doesn’t do much for Navigator, either. In fact, out in the wild, it looks squished, like someone shrunk the photo horizontally instead of vertically. The giant Lincoln logo is a nice touch, but it needs to be on a grille with a horizontal pattern — say that of the ’65 Continental — rather than a vertical one.
Exterior design shortcomings aside, Lincoln nailed nearly everything else on the 2018 Navigator. The package includes an excellent interior, a strong powertrain, good equipment list, a tow rating north of 8,000 pounds, and a competitive price tag that starts at $73,250. Black car fleets will surely love them, but only time will tell if the image-conscious, high net-worth suburbanites Lincoln wants to attract will feel the same way. Lincoln’s concierge services are an extra selling point, but failure or success may come down to the strength of the brand’s marketing push, as the hip-hop cred the original Navigator was able to snag probably isn’t coming back.

First Impression Road Test of the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Getting behind the wheel of the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio required a bit of patience on my part. Every journalist at the 2017 Texas Truck Rodeo wanted a turn. (Shocker!) It got to the point where every time I saw the Stelvio it was filled up with journalists riding in the back as a way to get first dibs when it parked. The only way I got a chance to drive it was because I waited outside in the sun during lunch to ensure I would be first in line. For the sake of the aviator shaped tan lines on my face I’m glad to say that it was worth the wait to drive Alfa Romeo’s first SUV.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is as entertaining to drive as it is to look at while swiping through Instagram filters. It got its name from the Stelvio Pass in Italy, a road that is burned into the fantasies of most driving enthusiasts for being one of the most beautiful and challenging ribbons of tarmac on this planet.

Stelvio Pass. Highest paved moutain pass in the Eastern Alps.
Interior
The model I got to drive had black leather interior, which was nice and had the Alfa crest imprinted in the headrest. Even after it was sitting in the hot sun for an hour I wasn’t burning up when I sat inside waiting for the AC to take effect. But I immediately asked if there were other interior color options available. Why? Because black interiors are boring, especially in vehicles that aren’t meant to be.

Thankfully, standard leather seats can be optioned in red or chocolate, besides black. Premium sport leather seats also come in black, red, or chocolate, in the Ti Sport trim level. Top of the line spec, Ti Lusso, offers a fourth color option which is called Creama (Italian for Cream). A beautiful light brown color that I can’t wait to see in person once these start rolling into mall parking lots.
The Stelvio was built to compete against other small luxury SUV’s, like the Jaguar F-Pace and Porsche Macan, so that means you get a lot of creature comforts in the interior. Heated seats and steering wheel, adjustable lumbar support, 8.8 inches of touchscreen navigation, an easy to use infotainment center, and dual-pan sunroof. You can even get headlamp washers if you want.
Exterior
If you are a fan of the Alfa Romeo Giulia then you’ll enjoy staring at the Stelvio. Not only do they share the same platform but they also have similar facial features in the front end. Narrow, confident, headlamps with Alfa’s iconic grille that gives the Stelvio an Italian flare and distinguishes it from its domestic cousins. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is built in Cassino, Italy, so it’s an Italian import, which means you can say you drive an imported Italian vehicle at social events. (Use this power wisely.)

Specs and Performance of the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Powering the Stelvio is an all-aluminum 2.0 liter turbo four cylinder engine putting out 280 horsepower. Put your foot down and the Stelvio will respond with a smile inducing kick and charges you forward all the way up to its top speed of 144 mph. An 8-speed automatic transmission feeds the power to your right foot’s command.

When I drove the Giuila Quadrifoglio earlier this year I wrote that the steering on the Giuila was “surgical”. Implying that the steering was light and precise like the hand of a skilled surgeon. It’s a similar case with the Stelvio. Driving it on Texas hill country roads was a pleasure cruise. Enjoying the feel of the wheel as I went along the ups and downs of the two lane blacktop. Paddle shifters exactly where I needed them to be no matter the position of my hands thanks to their massive size. All wheel drive kept me glued to the road. Staring MSRP for the Stelvio Ti is $43,995.
Final Thoughts on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio
I like it. Much like how I enjoyed the Durango SRT. I know they are on opposite ends of the spectrum but in the end both vehicles have similar ambitions. To stand out and put similes on people’s faces. The 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio delivers style without coming across as pretentious. It’s quick without feeling like you’re daring the law of physics, and it handles very well through the turns.
It’s difficult here in America to not think of style, passion, and showing off when talking about Italian vehicles. Being that this is Alfa Romeo’s first attempt at an SUV it has all of those things. Style for design, passion for handling, and showing off because it was voted the CUV of Texas at the Truck Rodeo this year.
