2017 Jaguar F-Pace
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Review
Magnificence and common sense are so frequently fundamentally unrelated. Be that as it may, every once in a while, something happens that figures out how to be both fun and touchy, ready to draw on the strings of the heart while fulfilling the piece of his cerebrum where all the solid counsel of his mom dwell. 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is an amusing to-drive SUV that additionally happens to be a standout amongst the most far reaching, powerful and focused costs in the conservative extravagance section.
The principle target of Jaguar when it halted creation of its first SUV was sufficient. Mission finished, be that as it may, have been included with a slight partition of the length of the wheelbase to the ground being decreased in the eyes, the subsequent vehicle was ended with more back legs, and load space uneasiness utilize the Unpaved land, the greater part of its rivals.
An optional goal was to drive with an indistinguishable eagerness from Jaguar vehicles and games autos. Utilizing an indistinguishable mechanical bone from XE and XF sports vehicle and a sort of F-motivation, 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is without a doubt a standout amongst the most alluring SUV driving class.
An inflexible guiding, an exceptionally unbending structure, perfectly created and completely wheel-mounted back suspension framework are gainful. The excursion might be somewhat relentless for a few, be that as it may.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace Configurations
2017 Jaguar F-Pace 20d
The support of these dynamic abilities is a couple of appealing motors. A supercharged V6 motor produces 340 drive (or 380 in the S show) at a cost where the greater part of the contenders has turbocharged four-chamber and 100-pull less. The increasing speed is as anyone might expect better than most, and is created alongside a high evaluating of the motivated F debilitate framework.
For the individuals who need to keep their fuel charges low, the 20d model has a productive turbo diesel motor, which joined the BMW X3 as the main other SUV in the fragment to offer such a motor (the Audi Q5 TDI is suspended the emanations because of VW embarrassment).
Inside, the lodge is elegantly finished, pleasantly brightened with quality materials and outfitted with happy with seating. New Jaguar is another Touch Pro InTouch mark interface with noteworthy responsiveness, huge virtual catches and adaptable menus.
Additionally, studies are expected to play out a full decision on contending frameworks (the same for less, the standard interface of the InControl touchscreen) however our underlying examinations were at any rate positive.
What’s more, indeed, this is the thing that we for the most part feel about the Jaguar F-Pace, 2017. Albeit different encounters are positively fundamental, we are certain of the exactness of our underlying response: This is one of class pioneers.
The F-Pace contributes adequately to the sort of element driving background offered by the Porsche Macan, the polish of the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and the adjusted character of the BMW X3. Also, despite the fact that it may not coordinate the Acura RDX esteem, it has a tendency to be less expensive than the value like different opponents said above. Things being what they are magnificence and reasonableness can exist together.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace MSRP
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Price
2017 Jaguar F-Pace White
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Execution and MPG
Each 2017 Jaguar F-Pace comes standard with four-wheel drive, eight-speed programmed gearbox, paddle move levers, slant begin help and a programmed begin and stop framework. There are two motor alternatives.
The 35t all-wheel drive models have a 3.0-liter V6 turbo that produces 340 strength and 332 pound-feet of torque in all forms with the exception of the S and the main release where it produces 380 pull. The couple has not changed.
Panther trusts that the base part will bring about a period of 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds or 5.1 seconds with the S. Both are among the speediest in the fragment. The efficiency is assessed by the EPA to be 20 mpg consolidated (18 city/23 roadway). This is much lower than contenders with a turbocharged four-chamber less intense. This is about the same as the Macan S.
The AWD 20D models have a 2.0-liter 4-chamber turbodiesel in-line that produces 180 pull and 318 pound-feet of torque. It is ordinary for a motor of this sort. Puma trusts it will increment from zero to 60 miles/h in 8.2 seconds, which is ease back however like the BMW X3 diesel. No appraisals EPA was accessible at the season of composing these lines, yet Jaguar trusts it will be in the upper scope of 20 mpg consolidated.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace Security
Each 2017 F-Pace comes standard with automated stopping devices, dependability and footing control, front side airbags and long side window ornament airbags. Camera sensors and stopping mirrors are discretionary on the construct model and standard in light of all others.
The programmed crisis stopping mechanism and the consummation of the bolster course are standard on the Sport R and S dazzle sports framework and back pass cautioning is additionally standard in this specific situation and discretionary reward and extravagance.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace To the Inside
The F-Pace lodge may not be as snappy as the outside, but rather all things considered it is classy and developed with materials of sufficient quality. The atmosphere controls are fantastic and the new Touch Pro InControl framework (discretionary) incorporates vast virtual catches, speedy answers and clear design. We require additional time than was conceivable amid our first collection, in any case, and we have not met the InControl based touch framework.
In advance, the F-Pace figures out how to mix lift while sitting tight for a SUV, with more than one auto subtype situate. The seats themselves offer more than sufficient condition and notwithstanding coming about space for the taller drivers.
The back seat, then, offers more legroom than most contenders, albeit a standout amongst the most critical motors in the front. Head tallness is not precisely ample, but rather the head is not brushing the roof (even with the sunroof).
The freight space is magnificent for the portion, which measures 33.5 cubic feet with seats up (best in class) and a limit of 63.5 cubic feet (just outperformed by Volvo XC60). This is chiefly the consequence of its profundity more than expected.
Also, for the individuals who will utilize the load region or the rooftop to convey a surfboard, kayak or open air enterprise articles, you may be keen on the discretionary action scratch F-Pace: Jaguar script opens the auto, abandoning you the key in the bolted auto.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace In the Driver’s Seat
The F-Pace 2017 looks more like a SUV sports vehicle in the driver’s seat – notwithstanding for moderately focused games models. Its corners are level and unremarkable impressionism projections are gotten with an unbending structure and a completely coordinated suspension.
The four wheel drive framework sends the majority of the power in the back in many conditions, making a favorable usefulness and sentiment a back wheel drive vehicle. And after that there are the uncommon direction: light and steady in their endeavors, was brought up in input and solid in their reactions.
In the engine, the supercharged V6 offers a 35t help, whatever the driving circumstance, with a somewhat boisterous motor note that can absolutely move toward an unmanned light plane exhausted amid typical driving. Diesel 20d ought to feel sufficiently solid to the city or when you have to build the ability to cross the street yet you will see the absence of force on a slope.
With two motors, four-wheel drive framework that standard taking care of, it has additionally demonstrated its incentive in the crate, sending energy to the wheels they require. Alongside this liberal land and go romping innovation obtained from the cousin of Land Rover, the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace can handle the precarious, dangerous, tractor-filled and rough trails as opposed to its character.
2017 Jaguar F-Pace – Is an Amusing to drive SUV that additionally happens to be a standout amongst the most far reaching powerful and focused Costs 2017 Jaguar F-Pace Review Magnificence and common sense are so frequently fundamentally unrelated. Be that as it may, every once in a while, something happens that figures out how to be both fun and touchy, ready to draw on the strings of the heart while fulfilling the piece of his cerebrum where all the solid counsel of his mom dwell.

2020 Jaguar F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag First Drive
There’s a curious alchemy at work in the design and development of any new automobile, an unpredictable fusion of people, politics, and process. The 2020 Jaguar F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag is a case in point.
The F-Pace is built on the same all-aluminum D7a platform architecture as the Jaguar XE and XF sedans and wagons. Jaguar Land Rover’s D7a architecture also underpins the Range Rover Velar. Now, the F-Pace and the Velar are both SUVs and both about the same size, each rolling on a 113.1-inch wheelbase. They also share powertrains, transmissions, and a host of other JLR components. But they look and feel completely different. Why? Money, that’s why.
The Jaguar F-Pace is the Range Rover Velar’s poor relation. Literally. Off the record, JLR insiders freely admit the automaker spent less on the F-Pace during its development program. Not in terms of the fundamentals, but the details. And it shows.
The Jaguar’s interior, for example, doesn’t have the same luxurious ambiance as the Range Rover’s, especially in terms of switchgear, soft-touch surfaces, and the jewelry of the brightwork. And no F-Pace gets the plush air suspension that’s offered as an option on six-cylinder Velars. As a result, depending on trim level, the F-Pace can look cheaper and feel coarser than its Range Rover cousin.
A Jaguar interior always used to be an experience, the epitome of the British wood and leather and splashes of chrome aesthetic that became a visual shorthand for luxury used by everyone from GM to Nissan to ZIL. But the F-Pace’s cabin borders on the austere, especially in the entry-level models, with way too much hard, black plastic in evidence. We loved pretty much everything else about the F-Pace when it arrived in the U.S. in 2016, so it’s fair to say the interior cost Jaguar’s first ever SUV our 2017 SUV of the Year award.
Blame the bean counters. The reason the F-Pace didn’t get the fiscal love the Velar did was that Range Rover was selling a lot of vehicles and making a ton of money while Jaguar, late to the SUV party, was struggling, in terms of both sales and profitability. With the dismal logic that gladdens only an accountant’s heart, it was determined that Jaguar couldn’t charge Range Rover prices and expect Range Rover sales numbers, and so costs would have to be cut.
How much does the Jaguar F-Pace 25t cost?
Prowl through the Jaguar and Land Rover configurators, and you can see how the money men juggled the numbers. An entry-level F-Pace 25t stickers for $46,225. An entry-level Velar S, which has the same 247-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the same eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive driveline, as well as coil-spring suspension like the Jag and much the same level of standard equipment—sliding panorama roof, Meridian audio system—is $57,325.
OK, the Jag might only get 18-inch wheels versus the 19s that are standard on the Velar S, and 10-way front seats trimmed in something called Luxtec instead of the 14-way leather-trimmed items with memory function fitted to the Rangie. But there’s no difference in straight-line performance between the two, and the Jaguar’s slightly sharper suspension and steering tune mean it’s more fun to drive. At the entry level, if you can live with the interior, the $11,000 cheaper F-Pace is a value buy.
But the math falls apart if you want an F-Pace with some toys. The F-Pace 25t Checkered Flag, a limited edition feature package based on the $57,525 F-Pace R-Sport 25t, costs $59,425. Compared with the entry-level F-Pace, that extra $13,200 basically buys you gloss black-painted 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, leather-trimmed 18-way power sports seats with lumbar and memory, and a heated steering wheel at the end of an electrically adjustable steering column. You also get sportier front and rear bumpers, keyless entry, adaptive speed limiting via traffic sign recognition technology, plus the digital instrument panel and JLR’s top-end infotainment interface.
But here’s the thing: A similarly equipped Velar—an R-Dynamic S with the four-cylinder engine and optional 20-inch wheels—costs just $1,400 more. And our 25t Checkered Flag tester actually stickered at $63,150, thanks to the addition of 22-inch wheels ($2,550) and the 360-degree camera system ($900) and the dark headliner ($275). A Velar R-Dynamic S with 22s and the camera costs just $795 more. At these prices the F-Pace really does start to feel like the poor relation.
It’s not just the interior, which, even with leather on the seats and other upper surfaces, is still somewhat austere, especially in black, and still too obviously plasticky. On 22-inch wheels and 265/40 Pirelli P Zero tires the F-Pace simply doesn’t feel as composed as a comparably equipped Velar. The ride is always busy, even in the regular drive mode, with lots of brisk vertical inputs that become sharper when you switch to Dynamic mode. This F-Pace never feels entirely relaxed, and a Jag should always feel a little relaxed, even when driven with purpose.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powering the F-Pace 25t makes its 247 hp at 5,500 rpm and 269 lb-ft of torque from 1,200 rpm to 4,500 rpm. It’s not quite as refined as the VW Group’s four-banger in the entry-level Porsche Macan, which makes 248 hp from 5,000 rpm to 6,800 rpm and 275 lb-ft from 1,600 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic transmission also doesn’t shuffle through the ratios as rapidly as the Porsche’s seven-speed PDK, which may explain why this powertrain slightly underwhelmed us in the Velar.
The four-cylinder Velar R-Dynamic SE we tested in 2018 ran 0–60 mph in 7.7 seconds, a full second off its claimed number and 1.4 seconds slower than the claimed time for  the four-cylinder Macan. Jaguar claims a 0–60 time of 6.6 seconds for the F-Pace 25t, but our last 30t (making 296 hp and 295 lb-ft from the same engine) needed 6.7 seconds, so until we get a 25t to the track, call us skeptical.
On real-world roads, however, the four-cylinder F-Pace feels more responsive than the numbers might suggest. Left to its own devices, the eight-speed transmission makes good use of the little engine’s decent low-end and midrange torque, and when you want to have some fun, switching to Dynamic mode and using the paddle shifters manually adds an extra layer of liveliness, especially once the tach needle swings past 4,000 rpm.
The steering is terrific, clear, and concise, and although the ride suffers on the 22-inch rims, the tightly controlled suspension, combined with good chassis balance, means the big, tall Jag is among the most comfortably agile SUVs in the business. The bean counters may have whiffed the details, but there’s nothing wrong with the F-Pace’s fundamentals.
Carefully spec’d, the Jaguar F-Pace 25t makes a decent entry premium SUV. Our choice would be the Prestige 25t, which starts at $53,225—$3,000 less than the V-6-powered Prestige 35t and $4,100 less than the cheapest Velar you can buy. It offers a good selection of premium hardware, including leather trim, 10-way adjustable front seats with memory, a heated steering wheel, and the top-end infotainment interface. Oh, and good-looking 19-inch wheels. Which means this F-Pace rides more like a Jaguar should. And doesn’t look and feel so much like the Range Rover’s poor relation.

Sparks fly in thrilling King of the Hill finale
The 10th edition of the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb crowned a new King of the Hill champion and saw the reign of two others extended today with a thrilling finale at South Africa’s premier motorsport lifestyle event.
The biggest news of the day was Franco Scribante taking his first King of the Hill title in the extremely competitive Modified Saloon Car category, powering his radical 2016 Nissan GT-R to a new Class B record time of 39.274 seconds. He ousted 2018 winner Wilhelm Baard who had to settle for second place in the final Top 10 Shootout.
“It was an interesting King of the Hill as it was getting dark for the Top 10 finale and we had a misfire that developed in the final run, but it all came together and the entire team is so happy to take this victory after working extremely hard to get the car ready for the Hillclimb,” Scribante stated.
In the Single Seater and Sportscar category, Andre Bezuidenhout fought off a strong challenge from Robert Wolk (2009 A1 GP Ferrari) to secure his third win a row. He powered the specialist Gould GR55 Hillclimb car to a winning time of 36.764 seconds – with his outright record of 35.528 seconds remaining unbeaten due to much cooler conditions this year.
It was a similar story for Reghard Roets who made it a hat-trick of victories in the Road Car and Supercar category, after slashing his 2018 time by 0.8 seconds to set a new Class A record of 44.094 seconds in his Nissan GT-R.
Over 17 000 spectators attended the 2019 Jaguar Simola Hillclimb over the three exhilarating days of Hillclimb action. The event was also livestreamed to viewers around the world via the www.jaguarsimolahillclimb.com and www.Motorsport.TV websites, with more than 225 000 views over the weekend.
Modified Saloon Cars
Scribante’s outlandish Nissan GT-R was purpose-built for this year’s Hillclimb, and it was one of the major attractions due to its radical World Time Attack-derived aerodynamics and around 1 200 kW of power reportedly on tap.
And his performance was as memorable as the car itself, obliterating the opposition with a best qualifying time of 38.551 seconds. Second fastest was Martin van Zummeren in his wild 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R on 40.732 seconds, followed by Franco di Matteo 0.191 seconds adrift in his 2000 Jaguar V8 Supercar.
The challenge from reigning champion Wilhelm Baard never really materialised as his extensively reworked GT-R suffered a series of technical issues and he was ultimately well off the pace on 43.941 seconds, thus not making it through to the Class Finals. Scribante took the Class B5 victory with a time of 39.274 seconds – a new Hillclimb class record 0.189 seconds quicker than Baard’s 2018 time.
Kyle Mitchell (2017 Nissan GT-R) was second on 40.892 seconds, with Van Zummeren taking the final step of the podium on 42.219 seconds.
In the do-or-die Top 10 Shootout which was concluded as the last glimmers of sunlight disappeared, Scribante was simply in a class of his own and comfortably took an extremely popular King of the Hill victory with a peerless run of 39.342 seconds – recording an average speed of 173.86 km/h from a standing start.
Baard gave it his all but had to settle for the runner-up spot in the final reckoning, just over a second slower after literally lighting up the 1.9 km Simola Hill with sparks flying from under his car’s ground-hugging aerodynamics as the Nissan blasted up the course.
Di Matteo continued his impressive form and was rewarded with third place after crossing the line in 40.828 seconds – just three hundredths ahead of Mitchell.
Single Seaters and Sportscars
The combination of experienced gentleman racer Andre Bezuidenhout and the specialised Gould GR55 proved unbeatable yet again in Class C for Single Seaters and Sportscars.
It was clear from the outset that Robert Wolk was doing everything he could to close the significant gap to Bezuidenhout from last year, but the Ferrari-powered 2009 A1 GP car just wasn’t quite up to the task. After qualifying runs, Bezuidenhout had stopped the clocks on 35.778 seconds with a margin of 0.77 seconds over his young rival.
The gap increased to 1.03 seconds in the Class Finals, with Bezuidenhout taking the Class C2 victory with a time of 36.537 seconds over the A1 GP car, while Chris Knez ended third in the roaring 1968 McLaren M10B Formula 5000 car (47.093 seconds) which provided a stark and fascinating contrast to its contemporary challengers.
With the track and ambient temperatures having dropped significantly for the final Top 10 Shootout, Bezuidenhout wasn’t able to close in on his 2018 record time of 35.528 seconds, ending up 1.2 seconds slower – but it was still enough to secure his third consecutive Class C King of the Hill title, achieving an average speed of 186.052 km/h.
“That was very tough as it was getting dark towards the end, and it was very tight between Robert and I in the end,” Bezuidenhout said. “I had hoped to break my record today, but the drop in temperatures made it impossible and our focus was on taking the win. The event was fantastic as always, and already I am looking forward to next year.”
Although he had to contend with some gear selection problems during several of his runs, Wolk had no issues in the Top 10 Shootout, and came to within 0.156 seconds of the winning time – a truly impressive effort that gave him second overall. Garth de Villiers produced a sterling performance to conclude his weekend in third place, crossing the line in 41.743 seconds in his 2002 Formula VW car.
Road-going Saloon Cars and Supercars
Reghard Roets joined the exclusive club of three-time Jaguar Simola Hillclimb winners after not only dominating the event’s time sheets in Class A throughout the two days, but wrapping up the King of the Hill Top 10 Shootout with a new record time of 44.094 seconds in his bright yellow Nissan GT-R.
“I thought that I overcooked it at the end as the car got very out of shape, but I held it to the finish and I’m very happy,” an elated Roets said. “The Jaguar Simola Hillclimb is the best weekend motorsport spectacle without a doubt, and every year it gets bigger and better. I’ll be on a high the whole year and can’t wait for the 2020 event!”
The completely standard, showroom-specification Jaguar F-TYPE SVR Coupés of the Cronje brothers kept the fans enthralled over the two days of King of the Hill, with Mark holding a 0.4-second advantage over his younger sibling following the qualifying sessions. However, Gavin pipped him to the number one spot by 0.3 seconds in the Class Finals to take the A7 win with a time of 49.096 seconds.
The younger Cronje also earned the runner-up position in the Top 10 Shootout, finishing 0.9 seconds ahead of Gennaro Bonafede (2019 BMW M2 Competition). Mark Cronje landed up 10th in the final run after posting a time of 46.940 and incurring a further 2-second penalty for clipping a track marker.
In the Jaguar media challenge, Ashley Oldfield (46.981 seconds) topped Marius Roberts by 0.376 seconds in the rapid all-new Jaguar F-PACE SVR.
The other intriguing tussle was between three local racing legends in a trio of brand new Jaguar I-PACE EV400 electric vehicles. Mike Briggs earned the bragging rights after powering his way to a very competitive time of 50.124 seconds, finishing 0.485 seconds ahead of Deon Joubert in the Class Finals, with Shaun Watson-Smith ending a whisker off the two front-runners.
Spirit of Dave Charlton Award
The special ‘Spirit of Dave Charlton’ Award recognising the person that reflects South African race legend Dave Charlton’s spirit of impeccable attention to detail, meticulous preparation and commendable performance.
For the 2019 King of the Hill, the award went to Martin van Zummeren, who completed his fifth Jaguar Simola Hillclimb this year. He led a trio of wild ear-piercing Nissan Skyline GT-Rs that were crowd favourites throughout the event, with the other two cars driven by sons Wade and Jody.

An Idiot's guide to modern Jaguar's line up via /r/cars
An Idiot's guide to modern Jaguar's line up
Do decode a Jaguar model badge you need to know this:
FIRST: e,f, and j note the size of the Jaguar:
XE: smallest Jaguar saloon
E-Pace: smallest Jaguar SUV
XF: middle sized Jaguar saloon
F-Pace: middle sized Jaguar saloon
F-Type: middle sized Jaguar coupé
XJ: largest Jaguar saloon
If this thread is correct, Jaguar's large SUV will be the J-Pace and the XK's replacement will be the J-Type
*note the "I" in "I-Pace" denotes that the vehicle is electric, not its size
SECOND: "X," "Type," and "Pace" denote the body style of the Jaguar
If the model name starts with an "X" than it is a saloon (XE, XF, XJ) If a wagon "Sportbrake is added"
If the model name ends with a "-Type" than it is a coupé (F-type)*
If the model name ends with "-Pace" than it is an SUV (E-Pace, F-Pace, I-Pace)
*note this does not apply to the Jaguar S-type sold between 2000 and 2008 which was a middle sized saloon, now replaced by the XF
THIRD: Performance denotations
S: Sort of performance version (As of 2017 the XE and XF s's are propelled by a 380 hp petrol V6)
Supersport: From 2011 to 2013 XJ's with supercharged V8s were called "Supersport's" now called "supercharged"
400 Sport: Special edition of 2018 Jaguar F-Types with 400 bhp
R: performance version
R575: Applies to 2018 XJ's with 575 bhp
RS: Super performance version before 2015 (XK RS, XF RS)
RS-GT: Super Super performance version before 2015 (XK RS-GT
SVR: Super performance version as of 2015, tuned by JLR's (Jaguar-Land Rovers Special Vehicle Operations". SVR:Jaguar, AMG:Mercedes-Benz, M:BMW -Within SVO/SVR are "projects" or special editions -Project Seven is an F-Type speedster with a hump in the rear -Project Eight SVR is a wide body performance XE (think BMW M3 GTS competitor)
FIFTH: Length/LWB
If a Jaguar has an extend wheel base "L" is added to the model name
The XJL is the longer wheel base XJ which adds room to the rear seat wells*
The XFL is the longer wheel base XF which is only sold in China
*Note Jaguars XJL's from 2008 and 2009 did not have the "L" added to their badges even though they were LWB
FOURTH: Luxury denotations
Daimler/Vanden Plas: Before 2008 luxury versions, Jaguars which were extra luxurious where called Daimlers in Europe (Daimler is to Jaguar as Maybach is to Mercedes). In North America these luxury version were called "Vanden-Plas". Only XJ's can be Daimler or Vanden Plas
Portfolio: 2011-2018 XJ's were deemed Portfolio if they were luxury, now they just mean "base" if the XJ is LWB.
Autobiography: In Europe luxury XJ's are deemed "Autobiographies" like Range Rover
Ultimate: highest luxury trim combined with highest performance trim (Jaguar XJL Ultimate)
FIFTH: powertrains as of 2018
d: disel
p (petrol) plus hp is for Europe, Land Rover, and E-Pace (P250)
t: turbo petrol
S: supercharged
Ingenium 2.0 4 cylinder 163PS Turbocharged Diesel (European XE, F-Pace, and XF)
20d: Ingenium 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 180HP Turbocharged Diesel (XE, XF, European F-Pace)
20d AWD: 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 180HP Turbocharged Diesel AWD (XE, XF, F-Pace)
Ingenium 2.0 4 cylinder 200PS Turbocharged Petrol (XE Europe Only)
Ingenium 2.0 4 cylinder 240PS Twin Turbocharged Diesel All Wheel Drive (European XE, XF, F-Pace)
25t: Ingenium 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 247HP Turbocharged Petrol (XE, XF)
25t AWD: Ingenium 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 247HP Turbocharged Petrol AWD (XE, XF, F-Pace)
P250: Ingenium 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 250HP Turbocharged Petrol AWD (E-Pace, European XE/XF/F-Pace)
30t: Ingenium 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 296HP Turbocharged Petrol (XE, XF, F-Type)
30t AWD: Ingenium 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder 296HP Turbocharged Petrol AWD (XE, XF, F-Pace)
Ingenium 2.0 4 cylinder 300PS Turbocharged Petrol All Wheel Drive (European XE/F-Pace/XF)
S: 3.0 Liter V6 380HP Supercharged Petrol (XE, XF, F-Type R-Dynamic)
S AWD: 3.0 Liter V6 380HP Supercharged Petrol (XE, XF, F-Pace, F-Type R-Dynamic)
Jaguar XJ's as of 2018 and some F-Types have older engines than the other models and unlike the others engines also denote the trim level whereas in the XE, XF, etc. you can have the same engine with different trim levels:
3.0 V6 Diesel 300PS Turbocharged (European XJ and F-Type)
3.0 Liter V6 340 HP Supercharged Petrol (XJ Portfolio, F-Type)
3.0 Liter V6 340 HP Supercharged AWD Petrol (XJ R-Sport)
3.0 Liter V6 400 HP Supercharged Petrol (F-Type 400 Sport)
3.0 Liter V6 400 HP Supercharged Petrol AWD (F-Type 400 Sport AWD)
5.0 Liter V8 470 HP Supercharged Petrol (XJ Supercharged trim)
5.0 V8 Petrol 510PS Supercharged (XJ Autobiography Europe only)
5.0 Liter V8 550 HP Supercharged Petrol (XJ R trim (replaced by R575 in 2018), F-Type R)
5.0 Liter V8 575 HP Supercharged Petrol (XJR575, F-Type SVR)
SIXTH: trim levels as of 2018 (excluding XJ)
Base: available with 20d - 30t AWD (XE, XF, XJ, E-Pace, F-Pace)
SE: European Base (XE)
Luxury: (XJ Europe Only)
First Edition: (E-Pace, currently)
Premium: available with 20d - 30t AWD (XE, XF, F-Pace)
Premium Luxury: (XJ Europe Only)
Prestige: available with 20d - 30t AWD (XE, XF, F-Pace)

First Drive: 2018 Jaguar XF S Sportbrake
PORTO, Portugal—Male driver grips hands at 9 and 3, switches car to dynamic mode, and proceeds to slice and dice the twistiest of mountain passes with gusto. The scene smacks of Sports Sedan Cliché 101, but in this case the vehicle in question—a 2018 Jaguar XF S Sportbrake—is capable of righteously hauling ass over zigzaggy roads while hauling a sofa in its cavernous 69.7-cubic-foot cargo hold.
Is this the future of mature enthusiast motoring?
Jaguar is taking a small chance on the fledgling genre by finally bringing a wagon version of the XF to the States, and if you ask the lunatic fringe of enthusiasts, the move didn’t come a moment too soon. (Spoiler alert: our key takeaway after tearing up Portugal backroads is that if you didn’t glance back at the cargo area while ripping up the road, you might not know you’re driving a wagon.) Weighing 165 more pounds than the equivalently equipped XF S sedan and packing the same 3.0-liter supercharged V6, the XF S Sportbrake copes with curves surprisingly well for its 4,045-pound curb weight, turning in crisply, accurately maintaining its line, and delivering intuitive control through the steering wheel.
This isn’t the first time the XF has been converted into wagon form—the Sportbrake variant of the first-gen XF was offered in Europe—but with high-end competitors dotting showrooms, now is prime time to bring the XF wagon to the U.S.
“We’ve offered things like the manual transmission F-Type before,” says product rep Maria Gonzalez, “but we’ve been playing in a safe place. Now we’re becoming even more of a driver’s brand.”
The second-generation XF arrived in 2016 with a more aluminum-intensive construction and updated features, making it as ready for primetime as the aging XF platform can be. Not only did the wagon transformation involve a minimal investment for the U.S. market, it enabled the $70,450 XF Sportbrake to join buzzworthy premium offerings like the Volvo V90 and Mercedes-Benz E400 wagon.
One of the only overt visual links to taller F-Pace are XF Sportbrake’s curved taillamps, and the tenuous connection is not a bad thing. Though storage capacity isn’t far from its crossover stablemate’s, the XF’s center of gravity lends it greater agility as well as a cooler visual presence. Jaguar designer Wayne Burgess, a part-time rock musician who would probably use the storage capacity for sound equipment, suggests that the Sportbrake’s silhouette resembles a drawn bowstring. The analogy is entirely credible, and more than a whiff of that feeling comes alive in the driver’s seat.
The XF Sportbrake is motivated by Jaguar’s 380-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6. The powerplant’s 332 lb-ft of torque feels palpable at low rpms and pulls strongly throughout the rev range. 0 to 60 mph requires a claimed 5.3 seconds. The engine sound isn’t particularly loud—those big, round exhaust pipes apparently prefer to be seen, not heard—but the ability to deliver healthy, stealthy acceleration is entirely in keeping with the Sporbrake’s off-the-radar persona. Portugal’s glassy smooth roads provided little challenge to the suspension, though a standard self-leveling system at rear promises to keep the tail from sagging when loaded up.
While the $72,100 First Edition model includes a 10-inch multimedia touchscreen, an 825-watt Meridian surround sound system, and a new gesture control function to open and close the roof blind, the XF Sportbrake is less of a technical tour de force than it is an exploration of packaging capability. The two tons of mass are aided through the corners by torque vectoring, which was evidenced during our 200-mile drive by the palpable odor of brake pads in the hard corners.
Apart from the smell, the efforts of the brakes are effective; the Sportbrake dances with sharpness and fluidity. Dial the drive mode to the sport setting and throttle gets a bit over the top with responsiveness, making it a challenge to accelerate smoothly out of corners. But the chassis underpinnings are there and so are a few pleasant Jaguar-specific interior touches like the rim of wood around the dashboard.
One thing that doesn’t work so well: Jaguar’s notorious cylindrical shifter knob, which rises out of the center console. The feature remains a stubborn effort at different-ness, one which yielded more than a few moments of frustration when making quick u-turns in tight quarters.
Our lunatic fringe of enthusiasts may be well acquainted with the dynamic advantages of a low-slung wagon, which happens to be enjoying a quiet resurgence in the premium market. While the vast majority of American car buyers have yet to understand the allure, Jaguar is right to bring the XF S Sportbrake into the fray, as it offers yet another incremental vote for a genre Europeans have long recognized as a way to have your driver-focused cake and eat it, too. It may be a niche within a niche with limited sales potential, but the Jaguar XF S Sportbrake is all but guaranteed to bring a knowing grin to the minority of drivers willing to embrace the wagon.

It may be a niche within a niche with limited sales potential, but the Jaguar XF S Sportbrake is all but guaranteed to bring a knowing grin to the minority of drivers willing to embrace the wagon.

2018 Range Rover Velar V-6 First Drive: What is Hiding in Range Rover’s New Luxury SUV?
We’ve just finished lunching on locally caught fried white fish, reindeer stew with mashed potatoes, and freshly picked strawberries with cream at a little cafe with a stunning 270-degree view of the fjords below. The whole setup is, as the kids say these days, “Norwegian af.” In the winter, this joint serves as a warming hut for a local ski resort, and getting here involved crisscrossing up a mile and half of steep, rock-strewn switchbacks. On a brisk day in January, it would be exhilarating to blast down on a set of skis. Today, we’re glad to be swaddled in the all-new Range Rover Velar, equipped with height-adjustable air suspension and hill-descent control. “Hullo, do you mind if I join you for the ride down?” asks the chipper PR rep with a smile and posh London accent sparkly enough for three Orbitz gum commercials. Of course the answer is yes, so in she hops in and introduces herself with a laugh. “It’s quite confusing, really. My name is Mercedes, but do you know how awkward that is in this business? Especially when you have to ring people up and say, ‘Hi, this is Mercedes, of Jaguar Land Rover.’ ” It’s giggles and the crunch of rock under rubber the whole way down. Velar also seems to be a puzzling name for this all-new fourth model in the Range Rover line, but there is precedent. When developing the original Range Rover, Land Rover engineers dubbed the prototype Velar, from the Latin word for “to cover, hide.” That makes sense for a secret prototype, and it does roll off the tongue quite luxuriously (with emphasis on the first syllable), but is Range Rover hiding something? Not if you ask the engineers. Chief body engineer Rob Scott is up front about the platform and engine sharing between Velar and the Jaguar F-Pace. Both are built on the same line at the Solihull, England, factory that gave birth to the Land Rover brand, now owned by the Jaguar Land Rover group. The Velar launches with six aluminum-intensive, direct-injection inline-four and V-6 engines developed in-house at JLR. For North America, there are two turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinders on offer: a 180-horsepower diesel or a 247-horsepower gas engine. The current top of the range is the 380-horsepower supercharged V-6 gas engine that powers our fjord explorer. “This is the most road-oriented Range Rover ever developed,” Scott says. It’s a claim we partially validated along the always stunning, occasionally harrowing byways that tickle the west coast of Norway. The majority of roads we drive are single-lane in each direction and often narrow for sharing in curvy, forested parts between towns. With some form of water on the ground most of the year, giant Scania trucks lumbering around blind corners, and strict enforcement of traffic laws, Norwegian speed limits are low and not for flouting. A limit-handling evaluation will have to wait, but at first blush, the Velar feels good, familiar. We loved F-Pace’s mix of sport and civility enough to nearly name it 2017 SUV of the Year, and the Velar comports itself in similar fashion but with more attention focused on smoothing out bumps, rounding off hard edges, and creating a “calm sanctuary.” This a tough assignment for our First Edition Velar, which comes shod in 22-inch wheels and low-profile tires, but credit goes to the aluminum-intensive double-A-arm front and multilink rear suspension, continuously variable adaptive dampers, and optional air suspension. The Velar’s neatest trick is how thoroughly it cloaks all its technology; although there are multiple drive modes on offer—tunable electric power steering response, a brake-based torque vectoring system, and an electronic locking rear differential—they are mostly invisible until fiddled with. Range Rover claims a 4,471-pound curb weight for the V-6 Velar and that it will hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, which is all very believable. Our V-6 Velar is always a willing partner; no matter the on-road mode selected (Comfort, Eco, Dynamic, or Race), all 332 lb-ft of torque felt readily available via distant thumps of the ZF eight-speed transmission. Popping back the left downshift paddle gets things going fractionally quicker, but the right foot covers most situations. That said, the V-6 Velar is not a head-snapping wolf in a fitted wool suit. There is plenty left to hone a sharper-edged, more track-focused SVR Velar. After thoroughly trouncing a series of man-made obstacles, including wheel articulation ramps, a curved side slope, and a hill climb and then charging triumphantly up a groomed off-road course, we ask the opinion of Land Rover expert Steve Hoare. For someone who spends his weekdays editing Alloy and Grit, a Land Rover enthusiast publication, and his weekends tending to five Land Rovers ranging from a 1949 Series 1 to a 2003 Discovery 2 (all pre–independent suspension and electronic aids, mind you), he is remarkably charitable. We both agree that traction and forward progress are never an issue; the off-road modes in Range Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system, programs such as Low Traction Launch and All Terrain Progress Control (a low-speed off-road cruise-control setting), and that height-adjustable air suspension take nearly all of the drama out of climbing hill and dale. All one really has to do is steer and thumb speeds up or down. But Hoare does dismiss the Velar’s handling of a fundamental off-road principle: outward visibility. “All Land Rovers used to be known for their ‘Command’ seating position,” Hoare says. The Velar’s more road-focused “Sports-Command” driving position and high beltline style mean the driver sits low, with a broad expanse of hood to peer over. Scott respectfully disagrees, arguing that the power-adjustable seats and voluminous headroom allow most drivers to sit as high up as necessary. To further address visibility concerns, Range Rover does make the views from the Velar’s four parking-aid cameras available while four-wheeling. But Velar’s launch story isn’t really about on- or off-road prowess—it’s about design. Even though their wheelbases are the same at 113.1 inches, the Velar shares no exterior body panels with the F-Pace. Its hood, fenders, and roof are made from aluminum, and the rear hatch is composite—all in the name of weight savings. Doors are steels to help with side impacts and the architectural look chief designer Gerry McGovern was after. Unlike the curvy and muscular F-Pace, the Velar is smooth and slabby—less sculpted in the gym, more hewn from solid billet. Perhaps surprisingly, the Velar is the more aerodynamic of the two; its 0.32 drag coefficient (in turbodiesel configuration) makes it the most aerodynamically efficient vehicle in Land Rover history (and a good deal slicker than the 0.37 of F-Pace.) An upright grille and short front overhang combine with the longer rear overhang to give the Velar its rakish, wind-cheating profile. Cleverly executed details such as the optional blacked-out roof and pillars, flush-fit deployable door handles, and a reversed cut line that rises from front bumper to rear further buff the Velar’s visual appeal. Silver satin finish paint, copper-colored accents, and those aforementioned 22s set apart the limited run of 500 First Editions even further. The Velar is positioned above the Evoque and below the Sport in the Range Rover lineup, but it challenges all, including the flagship, when it comes to interior execution. Reductionism is the overall theme, incorporating that overused trope “less is more,” but it’s doubtful Ludwig Mies van der Rohe would eye roll what the interior design team has done—especially if he could sit in the driver’s seat with every system off (quite hard to do in the smart key era). When the Velar is completely asleep, the driver is surrounded by a sensory-indulgent chamber composed of swathes of texture in blocks of muted colors ranging from fuzzy dark gray synthetic suede on the headliner, open-pore charcoal-colored wood inserts on the dash and doors, and glossy black touchscreen displays. First Editions also get special “cut diamond” pattern in the perforated leather seats and synthetic door inserts, but the star of the show is the yards of gray wool fabric on offer. Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat (pronounced more like Cavadra) is Europe’s largest supplier of premium fabrics and supplies such luxury furniture makers as B&B Italia, Knoll, and Vitra. Kvadrat worked with Range Rover to develop a 30 percent wool, 70 percent polyester blend that not only meets stringent automotive standards (including safety, durability, stain, fade, and color transfer resistance) but also can stand on its own as a premium offering. In what it claims is an industry first, Range Rover is offering the Kvadrat wool blend as an option on par with its best Windsor leather. Does it work? Sumptuously so. Not all automotive leathers are created equal, but they do all tend to cover the seats of luxury vehicles. Velar’s wool-ensconced interior feels strikingly different yet familiar; it’s like you’re home but in a car. Which is precisely the point: One goal of the Velar’s interior design team was to make the cabin more like a living space— from the leather, cozy wool textiles, and wood paneling to the twin gloss-black screens mounted flush in the center console. This is the Touch Pro Duo system, Range Rover’s new infotainment system. It uses high-definition touchscreen displays that control everything from HVAC and audio to smartphone apps and Terrain Response 2. In keeping with the reductionist theme, Touch Pro Duo employs precious few buttons, a volume knob, and two knurled rings prominently embedded in the lower touchscreen to change function depending on what system is engaged. If you don’t mind fingerprints or having to look when you touch (capacitive buttons provide no haptic feedback, so visual confirmation is required), the system works well and is substantially more responsive than previous JLR touchscreens. When the drape lifted on the Velar last year, it uncovered a production midsize crossover so slick and dramatically proportioned as to be mistaken for yet another gorgeous yet implausible concept. Our brief Scandanavian stint reveals that the Velar is the real luxurious deal against the backdrop of Norway’s jaw-dropping roads and vistas. How it handles the reality of big-city traffic, broken tarmac, and Vbox test gear remains to be seen.  The post 2018 Range Rover Velar V-6 First Drive: What is Hiding in Range Rovers New Luxury SUV? appeared first on Motor Trend.
