Writing in 2023
I join @gywo every year and don't usually meet my word count. I aim for a high goal so even if I fall ridiculously short, I've still written a lot. My goal for this year was 250,000 words and I wrote 179,000, 45k of which ended up as finished fic on AO3.
I went looking through my old Tumblr for this end of year writing meme because I do enjoy looking back.
1. Your favorite fic you’ve written
It's unfinished but Fever Dream High (Pran/Pat, explicit) is my favorite of the year. I had a lot of fun writing about Pran being horny for Pat and the increasingly kinky ways they express their love for each other.
2. Your least favorite fic you’ve written
Give to Me Your Leather (First/Khaotung, teen & up) because it was my first Kinktober fic and I was just not feeling anything I tried to write. There's 500 words of set up and then it just ends.
3. Your most popular fic
Your Lips on My Skin (Prapai/Sky, explicit) which is 2,100 words of Prapai rimming Sky. Pretty content that fandom liked this one.
4. The fic you wish more people would read
Crave You (Vee/Mark, explicit) which is also rimming porn. I think people just don't go searching for Love Mechanics fic (they don't write it either which makes me sad).
5. The fic you most enjoyed writing
From Friends to This (First/Khaotung, mature) I'd only been in BL fandom a couple of months when the GMMTV Outing happened and it was a couple of days of feverish content and wild shenanigans. I have fond memories of being glued to Instagram with a perpetual goofy grin on my face. Of course my introverted faves didn't seem to be as into it as Joylada or some of the others which just delighted me into writing about them sneaking off to make out. I wrote it quickly, grinning all the way through it.
6. Your funniest fic
I don't think any of my fic is all that funny, I write a lot of porn tbh.
7. Your hottest fic
Pretty One (King/Uea, explicit). I get a little worked up about the idea of Uea wearing a tail but writing King being worked up over Uea in a tail was a super hot experience.
8. Your saddest fic
I don't write a lot of sad things but Certain Dark Things (Boston/Nick, mature) is pretty bittersweet for me.
9. The fic you’d like to be remembered for
Alone With You (LiMing/Heart, teen & up) was the first non-porn thing I'd written in ages and it still makes me feel soft and squishy inside.
10. The thing(s) your fic contributed to fandom headcanon
I don't think this is applicable, however at least 26 people have read about Mix taking Fourth's virginity which, while strictly fantasy, is a delight.

Zuzu's Year End Fanfiction Wrap-up Template - free to use
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi pals! I've been looking for something like this for a while. I always see end of year art summaries and wish I could make something for fanfiction. So i did! Feel free to download the blank and sample images from tumblr, but they are also available in the Google Drive.
Google Drive link contains:
Blank PNG that you can edit in an image editor
Example text PNG that you see above, in case you want guidance on what it can look like
Editable PSD file for those who have Photoshop
An editable PDF form for those who don't have image editors or Photoshop (PLEASE see directions file on how to use the PDF)
Directions file
To save space and make it easier for tumblr, the image I made only has 3 months. Feel free to duplicate in order to make more months.
(Note on the "status" category: you can put anything you want here. Whether you edited, completed something, drafted half a chapter, published a chapter... this is left vague so you can put whatever you want here.)
You can find a more robust example here.
Credit is appreciated so that others can find and use this.

2023 TOG fanart wrap up!
[2021 wrap-up] [2022 wrap-up]
That time of the year again! This one was a weird one and I feel like generally I was way behind the numbers I reached previous years but lets see:
This year I drew 62 TOG fanarts out of 96 digital pieces. On closer inspection:
I featured the characters 87 times:
Joe: 34
Nicky: 23
Nile: 11
Andy: 8
Booker: 9
Quỳnh: 7
By ship/grouping:
Joe/Nicky: 14
Family*: 4
Andromache/Quỳnh: 3
Andy/Achilles, Joe/Booker/Nile, Nile/Moose: 1 each
*fanarts where platonic relationships were the focus/the whole gang was featured
Solo character drawings:
Joe: 19
Nicky: 5
Andy: 1
Quỳnh: 3
Booker: 2
Others section:
Originals: 7
Suburra: 5
Diabolik: 4
Grishaverse: 3
Kenzarelli: 1
So, in total it's a little less than last year, and less varied, not surprising given the lack of new material (the sequels WHEN???) and that my inspiration has been on and off this year due to life and again, no new material :(
Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who's been interested in my art, who has rebblogged it or left a kind comment, they all mean a lot and feed my wonky inspiration well <3 thank you too to my fellow artists on @theartguard still chugging and drawing and keeping each other inspired and motivated despite it all <3<3<3

2023 Reading Wrap Up
Shout out to The StoryGraph for some amazing stats! I’m Kestrellady over there, too, if you want to follow me.
332 Books Read
96,083 Pages read
86 New Authors
274 Books were Part of a Series
22 Re-reads
79 New-Releases (Books read within 6 months of publication)
1 DNF Book
124 Books Added to my TBR (18% of my current TBR, and that's after going through and culling a bunch!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I generally stayed a little lighter this year, which is nice. The mood and genre graphs are almost identical to last year, so I guess you can say I know what I like!
2024 Reading Challenges Book Riot's Read Harder 2024 madies.library's 2024 Fantasy Reading Challenge Read Around the World - ongoing, 46/196 (+4 from 2023) Bungo Stray Dogs Reading List - ongoing, 15/43 (+2 from 2023)
2024 Reading Resolutions Much like last year, I want to try to be kinder to myself about not reading books I'm not in the mood for just because they need to go back to the library. I'm trying to get more sleep this year (I'm one of those people who does not function well on less than 8.5-9 hours, which is incredibly frustrating), so that's probably going to cut down on my reading time. I just need to learn to slow down and accept that I can't read everything on my list!

My End of 2023 Reflection
This week's blog is my end of year reflection for 2023, where I talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly. Mostly though, I talk about how thankful I am for all of you.
I’m not going to lie, I have been putting off writing a yearly review of 2023. By and large, this year has been awesome. My book won awards, I had a record number of preorders on The Reanimator’s Soul, I wrote a whole book, things have gone well– more than well. On the other hand, there were things that happened that upset me and have continued to grate on me all year. My fear is that this…

2023 Wrap-Up
Looking back on the year that was, and looking forward to the year that might be Greetings all, and happy new year! This is my 2023 wrap-up post, many thanks to all who have supported me and made this the most successful sales year to date. My top viewed post this year was my just-for-fun list of Werewolf Films 1910-1949, cw for anti-indigenous and anti-ziganist tropes in some of those. Other…

Who else is ready to say goodbye to 2023? 🙋🏻‍♀️
This year did not turn out how I thought it would at all, but that also means I was able to accomplish so much more than I expected.
In 2023, I managed to:
complete a YTT course to receive my yoga teaching certification
study and test for my professional license
learn how to skateboard
start horseback riding again
visit Europe/tour the Mediterranean
dedicate more time to family, especially during the holidays
Overall, a very busy and successful year! Definitely looking forward to what 2024 brings, but if it's anything like 2023 I'll need to strap in and get ready to feel the Gs 🚀

2023 Wrap-up
I fulfilled 31 countries for the World Challenge this year, bringing my total up to 57 out of 208.
I also read about 14 other books that were repeats of countries, additional books in series, and ones I just randomly picked up, so something like 44 in total.
I also finished up all the backlog of countries I had rolled with the randomizer, so in the new year I will get to roll some new ones - yay, exciting.
So here are my top favorites from the year!
Top 5 reads in 2023
Tumblr media
The Orphan Sky by Ella Leya
A really beautiful novel of a prodigy pianist coming of age in Soviet Azerbaijan. Musical prose and just breathtaking story.
2. The Exiles of Crocodile Island by Henye Meyer
This was an unexpectedly really good book that I was lucky to find for the tiny islands of São Tomé & Príncipe. Following a group of Jewish children forced to a Portuguese settlement. Really insightful characterization and lovely writing.
3. The Man Who Spoke Snakish by Andrus Kivirähk
Such a unique folklore-esque story by an Estonian author. A clash of modernity with ancient ways, and what gets forgotten.
4. The Key by Sara Elfgren & Mats Strandberg
Book 3 and finale of the Engelsfors series set in Sweden really brought the series to an amazing climax and gave us great character development. Also I think, the longest book I read this year.
5. The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa
Super fun queer pirate adventure! This was just so refreshing and comforting at the same time.
Honorable mentions:
All Our Hidden Gifts by Caroline O'Donoghue; Travelers Along the Way by Aminah Mae Safi; I Am Kavi by Thushanthi Ponweera; On the Edge of Gone by Corrine Duyvis; When a Bulbul Sings by Hawaa Ayoub
See my book review tag for all my reviews!

Mi año en lecturas - 2023 wrap-up

2023 End of Year Wrap Up
2023 Review Wrap-up  Top of our TBR: (The books we didn’t get to this year but still really want to.) BookGirl: So I thought I read all of the books on my most anticipated list for 2023 but apparently I missed and totally forgot about Fallen City by Adrienne Young, The Third Daughter by Adrienne Tooley, To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods by Molly X Chang. That said I don’t even remember why they were on…
