upcoming store stuff & why we're doing a super sale

omg hiiii it's devin again, and this time i'm bringing store news

the short version: we're moving ourselves back to minnesota, and we're moving order fulfillment to a fulfillment center

wow, that's big news! maya and i are so so so excited to be closer to our minnesota friends (and also my family lol). i'm hoping to be back in northeast minneapolis, but let's be real we're probably gonna get priced out and into the suburbs

in addition to that, due to a variety of reasons i'll explain in more detail below, we're transitioning from in-house fulfillment to working with a fulfillment center (or 3pl, short for third-party logistics). we're at an awkward size that makes staffing difficult and have had issues with extended processing time. the 3pl should be set up by september, and we're working on the back end to have fulfillment centers in australia, canada, the UK, and eventually the EU. if tax authorities work with us we should have all that ready by december 2024!

to prepare for that we're doing a super sale. ash told me not to call it liquidation but she said that like 30 seconds after i hit send on the marketing email, sorry about that. items that we don't want to pay to move to the 3pl are discounted by 25-70%, with some of them priced at cost. under no circumstances will anything ever be 70% off again

how are the labor protections at the 3pl?

pretty good! we were shocked to find anything even halfway decent in the US; we went looking for a fulfillment center in the EU to handle all international fulfillment, and the one we found just so happened to have bought a US location two years ago.

they're located in ohio, pay $19/hr, and provide health insurance and 401k matching. that seemed too good to be true so we dug through employee reviews on places like glassdoor, and while there were some bad reviews those were all dated prior to when the facility was purchased by this new company. they also have a very low turnover rate which is a HUGE green flag

why are you transferring to a 3pl?

the serious

sometimes we have a high volume of sales, and it makes sense to have two full-time employees plus a part timer! but usually we have a low-to-medium volume of sales. we can float by on that, but it gets risky, and the economy is in a bad enough state that we're concerned about the longevity

related, the 2023 holiday sale showed us some major flaws in our fulfillment process. if the same issues were to happen this year the business probably wouldn't survive

we're moving cross-country in early 2025 and would've had to close this location anyway

unfortunately we will have to say goodbye to our office staff. they have been given 3.5 months notice and no-questions-asked PTO for interviews with a small severance

troy was always meant to be a temporary move. initially the plan was to move to vermont or massachusetts, but after being out here for 7 years we just kinda want to go home. the weather in troy is perfect for us, we love the mountains, and we have some great friends here, but for some goddamn reason we want our eyelashes to freeze together.

will you be returning to midwest cons?

if we return to cons at all it will be with ariel and/or ash running the booth, maya will not be involved. this would likely be in california and/or in the northeast US.

an attempt to live a meaningful life even if it's really busy.

🎓 academic goals:

stay on top of my schoolwork. not feeling like i'm running after deadlines but staying organized, calm, and methodical, even if there's a lot.

change up my study strats! turn text into diagrams! shorter focus periods followed by an active break to ease myself into the semester!

study 8h per day or less if at all possible (for official schoolwork)

👩🏻‍🔬 career goals:

finish databases courses to increase my career capital (i sped read so good they can't ignore you this summer and it was both inspiring and practical - grateful for the feeling of having a roadmap...even if it's vague.)

do everything to become so good the lab i'm interested in joining can't ignore me (i have pretty much no current affiliation with them or their university so this is gonna be an uphill climb unless maybe i seem like a perfect fit...)

🌳 lifestyle and adulting goals:

develop a can-do attitude and work on my growth mindset

continue to practice driving at least 3x per week before it snows

become a 6AM girlie (or an 8PM girlie, if you're looking at the sleeping time lol) so i have a few hours of calm, focused silence in the morning which will minimize the amount of time i need to spend studying after dinner (planning to take advantage of the jet lag and the fact that the sun sets earlier in winter, making me sleepy sooner 😠)

re-gain some level of fitness to counter my couch potato summer habits and all the sitting i'll be doing this semester

🤸🏻‍♀️ more fun goals:

apply to volunteer with my local horticultural society and hopefully start volunteering soon (hoping to work on their newsletter as that's something i miss from my high school days! something familiar will also be good for easing into my "reintegration into society" era as a previously "studying hermit". perhaps once i get so comfortable i feel like i'm plateauing, i can branch into being a volunteer gardener! i have absolutely zero successful experience with plants, so it would be really nice to have some guidance from people who've made and maintained such pretty gardens in my community 💗)

make time for piano (ideally at least 1h 3-4 days of the week, but i will be happy if i even get to touch the keys for less than 1h of practice 3-4 days a week. if i can do this, then i can more reasonably justify getting a real acoustic piano at home and maybe even take lessons again when things get less busy...and i don't have to fear not making progress or even getting worse on the digital in the meantime because my fingers and brain get re-accustomed to the acoustic feel and sound options surprisingly, happily quickly even if i only get to play on one for a few days of a year, which is already quite a privilege 🥺🙏🏻 in the meantime, i need to maintain/improve my dexterity, sight-reading skills, and theory knowledge. i don't plan to read the theory book front to back anymore, i'll just read the bits i'm most interested in and maybe eventually that will mean covering the whole book but i won't start with that intention in mind 🤷🏻‍♀️)

sOmEhOw have the energy to comprehend even 1 duolingo lesson in japanese ~daily if only to one day get to a level where i can read more japanese books (and maybe even watch some animé without subs? no pressure tho since i'm very picky about animé 😂)

💭 nice to have but not pressing:

make it a habit to read a nerdy book or academic article that isn't directly for schoolwork to help me find my research interests, learn more about labs in my physical area, and/or re-ignite my passion for/sense of wonder with STEM and STEM-related issues 🔥

each week read something from suggested/recommended course reading lists if there are any

each month read a book completely unrelated to academics, something that distracts me or that feeds my soul or both (or if i can't do that, then just 1 such book each semester, i'm just after something rather than nothing)

🐝 productivity advice from one of my role models that i want to follow religiously this semester:

prioritize rest in order to think and act fast (10 hours of sleep! downtime! meditating! gentle exercise!)

schedule down to the minute but understand that as long as you're doing what you planned to do within the hour you planned to do it, you're good (that is assuming life doesn't happen and derail the entire day's plans but most days thankfully are not like that). give yourself lots of buffer (bigger, not smaller blocks of time in the calendar!).

understand that prioritizing means that you may fall behind in the unprioritized areas from time to time and have to catch up and that's completely expected and completely fine.

be selective about what you're "perfectionistic" with (it's not really about applying perfectionism, more like being picky about where you apply extreme conscientiousness). that is also part of prioritizing.

Right now, I'm 90% convinced that Charles will definitely leave Ferrari soon at some point. That 10% doubt is only for if by some insane miracle Ferrari starts giving him what he wants and deserves .

What i want to ask you tho is if RBR Charles is only a possibility for 2025 ? 2024 has to be Ferrari? From the little I know, If Charles has shown even the tiniest interest in RBR , they will probably be keeping Checo just to fill the seat until Charles takes a decision. Until now i believed that if anyone were to leave Ferrari it'll most definitely be Charles. Carlos has had as good of a time as they can give and where else would he even go? But now that you've connected the dots with Carlos relatives liking that kind of tweets , it does seem likely that Carlos might leave too.

I think that Charles will be with Ferrari for 2024 for two reasons. The first is....how much his contract is. It would be expensive for RBR to buy out the contract, and Charles won't sign for cheap either–I would expect a contract between him and Red Bull to probably only be slightly less than his current Ferrari contract. I think Red Bull would rather save that money and put it towards a Charles 2025 contract.

The second is that the 2024 car is being developed according to Charles's preferences, so it does suit Charles to stick around just a bit longer and see whether Fred can make Ferrari work, and if he can't then he swans right over into the Red Bull seat. I severely doubt we'll get Charles in a Red Bull in 2024. We might actually get Daniel Ricciardo in a Red Bull if Checo does leave at the end of this season, but unless anything changed drastically I don't see him being on anything longer than a one year contract. For Red Bull, Daniel is a solution to the immediate problem, but I think their long term plan is Charles.

Carlos is going to go to Audi when they join in 2026, that's almost certain, I reckon a pre-contract might have even been signed. In the meantime, I'm sure he'd like to stay with Ferrari, but if that's not possible he'll only be out a year and might just go race in another series for a bit.

Actually yes! she suddenly felt extremely sick during the reading plus a really violent stomach ache. For as long as I’ve known her she has never had stomach problems so this is definitely something😳 also! if I’m not wrong she also mentioned that because the positions of the female trainees are so volatile rn, everyone is really tense because anyone can be added and deducted from the line up . And I forgot what card she pulled (I can go check but I rlly forgot) but she mentioned that they is potential for new trainees to be added (like shotaro only training for a month before being set to debut in NCT or jaehee from NCT wish who only trained 3 before being set in the debut group or giselle from aespa who trained only 11 months total and added into the debut line up immediately) and the short term trainees can cause tension within the potential line up because some of the long term trainees will face the loss of their friends + a bit of jealousy or more sense of unfairness because these girls will not have trained long and will make the line up. About H looking maybe unusually more grumpy/unhappy, I think there’s maybeee something happening behind releasing HS4 - S*ny maybe put too much pressure on him to overcome H’sH success and so maybe the songs he wrote/recorded so far aren’t good enough to put them on an album and release it. Maybe that’s also connected why h*ssell ended +- after one year (definitely not compaining about it tho!!) and they hadn’t kept her for the promo season because it has been delayed when maybe H has to write and record something new to make the label happy with his new material. There was a pap walk of H and K*d H*rp**n and rumour that Mitch is with H too in Italy, so maybe this italian work runaway is to bring some new muse to H for HS4? It’s just a theory of mine but it makes sense when I compare it how Lewis Capaldi’s debut album was a global success and how much Lewis delayed his second album for like a year because those new songs he wrote weren’t good enough and the stress and the pressure from it caused huge damage on his mental health and his illness (and he’s still on a break because of it). So I’m thinking that this delay (if those hype accounts were right) is because H need to write more and that’s why he’s looking rather grumpy and unhappy.

I've considered this too. Because it sounded like it was ready to go in march/april, first single picked and tour planned for autumn 2024 and 2025. If that is true, which i am inclined to believe it was, then i'm questioning what we're seeing now from Italy. It does seem like he's on a writing/recording camp with his writers. So does that mean the label wasn't happy with the album songs and he had to write some more? Or is he doing a double album release? Two albums in a year? Or is he just now starting to write songs for his next album? Why was he then papped with Kid H. and T. Johnson in early october 2023? Surely he hasn't spent 9 months on an album? I don't know what's going on, we are getting conflicting information. We haven't even gotten confimation he's re-signed with Columbia. Your guess is as good as mine.

2024 Goals

I just remembered that I haven't done this yet so here I go now.

Academia. I just enrolled in my master's degree. My plan is to pass all my exams this year except for 2/3 (that I'll take next year). I also want to apply to study abroad in Korea next year (that's why I need to pass almost everything now).

Savings. Last year I had the goal of saving 5k for future semesters abroad. I want to do this again. It should be easy since I now have a PAID INTERNSHIP. Wohoo! I just need to not blow all of that money on bubble tea.

Crafting. For more details, see my knitblr @prettycraft5. Basically, I want to knit a bunch of socks and at least 3 sweaters or vests. And no knitting gifts for a whole year!

Reading. I set my GoodReads goal at 1 book this year. All I expect is to perhaps manage to read some books from my TBR. But I'll be busy enough studying + working so I don't want to add more stress to my plate.

Writing. I'm slowly working on the outline of my Novel. The plan is to complete the outline by mid-February and then complete the first draft by the end of the year. If I have time left, it would be great to write the whole thing & publish it. I'm also enjoying writing on my travel blog for fun so I hope I'll write at least 1 post a month.

Traveling. This year I WILL visit that museum I've been saying for years that I want to visit. I have 2 concerts coming up (if I can get the tickets for #2...) and 2 friends that I want to visit. I also plan on moving to Korea in September so there's that (please let me win that scholarship or I'll be super sad while reading this at the beginning of 2025).

Languages. I want to keep going with Hindi Duolingo whatever happens! I want to read at least 2 books in German. And I want to enrol in a Korean course, be it online or in person. (I'd prefer in person but would I have the time? Uhm).

Fitness. I want to keep up with ballet classes for the first half of the year + try to find a dance studio in Korea as well. I want to do a workout (at least 10 min) on the days I wash my hair + I want to do yoga every time my body feels cranky, no "I don't have time excuses.

Beauty. (this is a Legally Blonde blog after all) I want to grow my hair as long as possible this year. I promise not to cut my hair until September & to keep using spray leave-in conditioner and hair oil on the ends. I also want to experiment with rollers and get an appointment with a dermatologist. I also promise not to buy nail polish because I'm never going to use it anyway, but it would be nice to discover a way to deal with cuticles.

In my opinion, it would just require G pulling a 'I open my doors to anyone in 2026' stunt or goofing things up with RBR for Daimler to lose it's last straw for Toto tbh.

"Ari you're delusional". I am not. What Daimler is currently building for G in China is not one of short term. C 63 S E just started their launch in China. Along with other 63 cars line up. Looking at Douyin, the recent meeting with Xiaomi CEO, signing him up to local news interviews and collab with local content creators, promotional videos Mercedes Benz China/Beijing Benz made specifically for George, him being the only driver who made it to Mercedes Benz insta in 2024, etc. this is all a long term planned thing. Not to mention that some of the 63 cars esp C 63 S E's promotion is heavily tied to G. And for them to just remove G if G suddenly threatens to quit is not easy.

Also we do not forget that G is the most successful junior that Mercedes themselves has ever created and has been in touch with them for 10 years (8 to be official) if he LEFT, he is also bringing 10 years worth of internal knowledge. G is actively mingling with the engineers, people at the company, doing sims, etc. Not to mention he is REALLY close with Toto irl. Him leaving is just someone leaving their diary out in the open for someone to read. G could very well advantage the team he went to if he threatened to leave in 2026 because in 2025, he would be the centre for the new regs development in 2026.

I'm not getting 'riled up' by what Horner is saying but Horner is not wrong. He is 'slapping' some sense to Toto. That Toto should worry about his own before thinking of taking someone. And if you are saying.. "Ari, G and RBR hate each other tho. I don't think they'd have a good relationship" Really? Guess you haven't seen who congratulated him (and high fived him) in Spain 2023 last year, who checked on him in Imola 2021, who congratulated him (and semi leak) his move to Mercedes, who talks about regretting not choosing him as their junior, and more.

Toto needs some sense slapped to him. That before he looked at other people's houses, he should look at his own first. But yeah one threat from G regardless of a goof or no, might be Daimler's last straw. Because okay fine LH left cause Daimler is being a dick and wanted him gone kinda too but G? Their current possible main center to push in the chinese market and main promotional ambassador for their 63 cars? It all began with a small spark. Toto should be careful.

2024 Pairings and Plans!

I need to get myself organized for the upcoming season so I thought I'd do a little rambling post about what my goals are for this season and touch on the next as well so y'all can know a bit of what's to come!

2024 Season Pairing Plans Note: These are "planned" pairings and do not always work out.

Western Hognose Pairing 1 - Howlite X Shale (Snow X Axanthic het Snow) - plan on holding back 1x female snow

Western Hognose Pairing 2 - Citrine X Splendid (Extreme Red Albinoconda X Albinoconda) -

Northern Mexican Pinesnake Pairing 1 - Snapdragon X Dahlia

Northern Mexican Pinesnake POTENTIAL Pairing 2 - Snapdragon X Marigold

I am not going to be pairing / producing any leopard geckos in 2024!

Basic 2025 Plans:

2x leopard gecko pairings (Red Stripe RADAR X Blood RADAR & Gem Lav Jungle Bold Bandit X Lav Jungle Bold)

1x hognose pairing (Extreme Red / Purple Line Arctic (?) Super Anaconda het Albino ph Sable X Extreme Red Arctic ph Albino)

1x Pseudelaphe flavirufa pairing (Wildtype X Anery)

1x Pituophis vertebralis pairing

1x Pituophis deppei jani pairing (potential, only if I don't breed both girls this season- I don't want to breed them more than 2 times back to back without a recovery season)

General thoughts and addition plans below the cut.

General thoughts: The 2024 season will be my last year pairing / attempting to pair Shale and Splendid, both ladies will be retired from breeding regardless of the results! They're going to be 8 years old in 2024, and Garnet taught me 9-10 is typically the age female hognoses start to slow down in terms of both egg production and ease of laying. I have not started looking for my "Generation 2" hognose breeders but it's going to become a priority starting now! I'd still like to maintain my relatively small group of breeders, but maybe expand a little on the morphs I'm working with. As for other planned additions, I am still looking for the PERFECT leopard geckos (2-3 total) to add to my Red Stripe RADAR group and my Lavender Bold group.. but I am too picky and haven't added any at all this year lol. I'm always looking tho. I am going to holdback either a Lavender / Firebold cross or a Gem Snow Lav / Firebold cross that I produced in 2023 but I am going to keep all of them back from that pairing until I'm solid on which one is going to fit my plans best. I have the hardest time deciding what direction I want to go with my lavender firebold project. I would also like to add a male northern mexican pinesnake (unrelated to my current group) in 2024. If any other additions are made they will be species I already keep and just want to diversify my bloodlines / groups a bit. The only potential "new" species that will be added will be whatever I finally decide to redo my empty 125g aquarium for. I'm leaning toward like. an amphibian mansion currently. I was originally going to do turtles but I think I'd like to do something a little different and focus more on building something a bit outside of my comfort zone. More on that later I guess.

for the sake of contracts and legality lets just talk about 2025, why do they think redbull/at did all these things? just because they like daniel???? obviously is to suss him out/prepare him for the redbull seat, it's logical to me, they're not a charity

you’re right, why would redbull go all out for Daniel if they’re not at least considering him for the seat in 2025. Helmut is a fickle old man but Daniel is definitely part of Christian’s plans because he’s the one who got away, he’s the one Christian didn’t think would leave. why else would he meet Daniel in a hotel room when he was still in the mclaren horrors and then have dinner with Daniel and tell him AT first and then we’ll see? And despite whatever everybody else might say about Daniel’s comeback, Christian’s definitely been appropriately impressed because quote unquote the man literally said Daniel’s ticked all the boxes performance wise in Hungary

and yeah if you’re redbull, who do you put in that second seat in 2025? Sure a lot of driver contracts end in 2024 but Charles or Carlos (redbull’s already despatched him to renault once, they’re not taking him back) or Alex are unlikely to go there. Would they put Liam in that seat when realistically he’d have only one year in f1 at that point when they’d done the mistake of promoting a driver too soon twice already? Would they put Yuki when Honda is leaving a year after and Honda seems likely to take him with them? Would they put Lando? Sure helmut has a hard on for him but zac brown has a bigger hard on for him and will pay him 80mil to get him to stay even tho he most probs would still be winless at that point (also helmut please tell me how a guy, who was crying over the radio last weekend for team orders to get past his rookie teammate, actually fit at redbull).

Daniel is realistically their only choice for 2025

re: alpha tauri silly season rumours:

Alpha Tauri is rebranding next year with either Hugo Boss or Adidas becoming the title sponsor (most of the rumours say Hugo Boss, adidas is a recent name thrown into the mix), and it’s been said they want to move further away from being considered a junior team w this new rebrand (whether or not that will actually happen, who knows lol). The current CEO of Alpha Tauri has spoken positively about Daniel’s marketing and commercial value in regards to this making this happen.

Daniel himself has publicly said that his goal in joining alpha tauri is to bring himself into the mix for the red bull seat for 2025 with Checo’s contract expiring next year, Christian Horner has also confirmed that this is his intention on the F1 Nation podcast. I personally would be really surprised if they kept Checo for next year, not only because of the performance aspect but also because both Christian and Helmut don’t seem to like him or support him all that much and I think Checo has already hinted at looking at other options post 2024. Whereas both Christian and Helmut seem to really like and support Daniel in a way that I haven’t seen them do with either Yuki or Checo (as an example, helmut has had dinner with Daniel in Austria during the summer break and it’s really hard to imagine him doing this with the others).

So yeah tl:dr, them keeping Daniel on for another year makes sense due to marketing and rebranding purposes, along with the fact that checo’s seat will be opening up next year and I don’t see him renewing with red bull afterwards. As to what will happen in 2024 and beyond, who knows but it’ll be interesting to watch that’s for sure

I would agree with you. Full speculation again, but I also think their plan A is to get Daniel back in the RB. But although they've been very optimistic and vocal about his performance, I'm still waiting to see it myself (his injury couldn't have come at a worst time for him btw). There's a lot riding on his results between now and the summer if he indeed has a contract for next year. Also I still personally think that even though it's the best opportunity he has it's ultimately not a good move for him (great move for RBR tho) but that's another conversation.

I wonder where Perez might go though.

I absolutely can't wait for silly season 2024, I worry I'm ruining it for myself by overhyping it but oh well.

Addressing questions about announced projects from Tsubucon

So I've understandably been asked by many about the lack of UGF4 (mainly) announcements from Tsubucon since its 2-day run has ended

Which ngl, while even I was expecting it personally (blinded by hype and because I totally did not expect TsuPro to come up with so many tangential projects), I did some more digging to estimate when should we be hearing about at least the first news about UGF4

Comparing with last year and assuming the timeline of releases would be the same, since the Blazar Movie is stated to be released in 23rd Feb 2024, exactly the same date as the Decker Movie in 2023, recall that the first actual trailer we got for the Regulus series was on 27th April 2023 (I don't think we should count the Aug 2022 one cause that was coming fresh out of UGF3 then)

So realistically speaking, we should probably more reasonably expect to actually hear something about UGF4 in April 2024 rather than now since the main lineup has alr been announced for Tsubucon

And there's no doubt that there'll be a UGF4 for those that were asking as well, since they literally had a "To be continued" in the post credits scene of Regulus First Mission lol

As for the 2nd most asked installment, specifically the Shinverse continuation with either ShinU 2 or ShinSeven, the leaked timeline did point out that it's either gonna be released in 2024/25 so tbh it looks like it's slated for a release in 2025 (which im personally fine with since Anno has really been working very hard that its concerning, he deserves a longer break tbh), which means that we would most likely first hear about it somewhere mid-late 2024, Anno's involvement in Tsubucon this year could be interpreted as a foreshadowing

Which puts it in a similar situation to the leaked planned China Ultraman Movie that's also slated to be released in 2025 if yall recall the recent document leak as well, we also didn't hear anything about it at Tsubucon

As for everything else such as Marvel Comics continuation, Netflix Suitverse Novel adaptation etc, ngl I alr classified those possibilities as less likely than the above major ones so we can only assume that they don't plan on making those happen yet at least

But hell, I did predict a DH Anime on this blog prior lol, that one was truly out of left field as expected
